My husband had good memories of the old location so we gave the Allen restaurant a try for his birthday. The service was terrible and we noticed a female manager apologizing to the people in the booth behind us for something. I ordered ice tea ($2.49) and was brought a juice glass (seriously) with terrible tea and no ice. It was not refilled until I flagged our waiter and it was again filled with tea only, no ice. One word explains it all - INCONSISTENCY - WHICH IS DRIVEN BY THE LACK OF EXPERIENCED ADULT MANAGERS. Whoever is in charge of this location is either blind, lazy, or just stupid (or all these). And I hope that their Loyalty Program manager passes this review along to the Managing Partner or Head of Restaurant Operations. I. have been going to UJ since they first opened on Lemmon Ave in Dallas, and then I moved and frequently went to the one along the Tollway in N Dallas. Both of these were very good and well run. Then I moved to McKinney and started going to the Allen one...which leads to the issue of inconsistency. 1. upon arrival you will almost always be told there is a wait of X minutes, but when you take a walk around you will see allot of empty tables - which is usually blamed on not having enough servers to take care of customers or the table still needs to be "bused" - which I think is the real reason as you will see dirty tables all over the place that sit empty because no one cleans them - IE they do not employ enough busboys. Maybe someone in charge should tell one of 4-5 hostess people in front to go bus the tables - what a concept! 2. service and food is also inconsistent - same reason - lack of management - never see the same manager or wait person when you go back which I suspect leads back to no management = turnover 3. do not order mixed drinks unless you are at the bar and can watch the bartender....if at a table the drinks have little or no liquor in them and forget about ordering a special tequila - who knows what they will pour. Drinks a total rip off. So go at your own risk ( I still do) but remember my comments and do not put up with any of their BS. - read more

Although the service here was responsive, the quantity and quality of the food was inadequate. I expected a lot more from this restaurant initially but was disappointed. I ordered a chicken fajita for 2 which was a whopping $18.99. The fajita came with sauteed onions, red peppers, and marinated chicken. There was a side of salsa, guacamole, shredded cheese, and sour cream. There was no rice or refried beans served with the meal which is typically included with a fajita. The meal came with a total of 5 strips of chicken with an extremely small amount of each topping. I planned on sharing this with someone, so I had to cut each strip into 6 smaller pieces to have enough chicken for each fajita. My chicken was also served overcooked. I would not recommend this restaurant for people that come in with an empty stomach... so, basically, anyone that goes to a restaurant. read more

Absolutely horrible! Way too expensive and the food was terrible. When I brought this subject of the food being not so great the waiter actually told me they were more known for their fajitas than anything. Wow! This place used to be great, then when through about 6 months of poor servers and poor quality food and an environment of a staff that just doesn't care. However, they're back and have been great the passed couple visits I've been. The drinks have always been terrible since when they first opened and still now. OMG. What a disappointment to come to uncle julios after so many years of not going. We decided to try it. We came on a Saturday at 1230. One of three hostesses told us 5 10min wait. Sat at the bar and had a drink. 25 min later with many empty tables we finally get seated. Takes about 10 for a waitress to come take our drink order. We ordered ice tea and two appetizers. Ceviche was about the nastiest thing we have eaten in a while. The entrees finally came and was so plain and tasteless we were both surprised. In the end we left most of what we overpaid for on the table. The one reason we decided to try this place was for the chocolate pinata desert. After what we have experienced the thought of paying 30 dollars for a desert was too much. We paid and left. this is a great spot to have a restaurant in a prime location of allen. the parking wasnt bad at all it was def busy it was dark enough for the mood but not to dark where i couldnt read the menu the wait staff was okay, thats the only reason they didnt get 5 stars. i had to ask for refills, please notice when my drink is gone LOL... so the 4 of us ordered the shareable plato thing and it was AMAZING. it was wow lol so good esp the chicken! we couldnt eat it all, we def ended up bringing home an entree lol. we had to ask for more tortilla i guess thats a bad thing too. price was acceptable for what we ordered. read more

I travel a lot by myself but this week my wife and son were with me. We love Mexican food and we'd heard some good things so we went. It turned out to be a great pick! There was a bit of a wait but that's typically a good sign. The restaurant is huge with a massive fireplace burning at one end. Great ambiance! There are a decent sized number of menu items to choose from and while chips and salsa are pretty much the same wherever you go, these were excellent. We had the chicken quesadillas, chicken flautas and soft chicken tacos. All flavorful and nicely portioned. The best part however was our server... Kinzie! She was friendly, full of smiles and although the place was packed she went out of her way to connect with us and make sure all of our needs were met completely. We couldn't have enjoyed our evening any better. To top it all off the sopapillas she surprised us with at the end were outstanding! They are bite sized and simply perfect! Worst service we have ever had. My family and I frequent this location and the service is mediocre at best unless you sit at the bar. Tonight we sat for 30 minutes and not one single staff member came to our table. We did not get drinks, chips or food. After 30 minutes of waiting we decided to leave and when we informed the staff they were not at all apologetic. Very disappointed they would treat customers- loyal or otherwise in this way. I love this restaurant but the host was so rude. I got off the phone after putting in my reservation with a girl named Lexie and she was so rude and in a very bad mood. When me and my family got to the restaurant by chance we were seated by Lexie and she had a very bad attitude toward me and my family. I felt very disrespected and embarrassed. Came at 4:00 on Sunday afternoon and observed plenty of outdoor seating. Asked to be seated outside and was told that the wait time was 10 to 15 minutes. We waited the 15 minutes and I went back to hostess station and was told that it would be a while longer while their servers got in place??? Since when is it okay to make patrons wait, while observing empty tables, while your servers get in place! Rotate your staff or something, so that you have severs in the floor at all times! The food is always excellent, expensive but expected to be. In a faithful customer for over 17 years when I used to take my wife now on dates. But last time we went for my brother in law's birthday we had the worst service, from the reception with the hostess to the waiter. For example: the hostesses(3) of them were thinking about the customers but instead joking around with each other. Is a "fine Mexican restaurant" you don't expect to receive that kind of service when your bills for rice and beans are $200+. I really enjoy eating at Uncle Julios. The food is always fresh and yummy and the service is great. Last time, the waitress gave my mom and I a free order of sopas because it was her first time to eat there and her birthday. I highly recommend the Guadalajara! I also like the fish tacos as well. They are a little pricey and I'm not a huge fan of the warm salsa (that's just so wrong to warm salsa) but those are my only tiffs. read more

I am an Uncle Julio's "liker' because I like their flautas but service falls short. I like the Dallas Parkway location better than this place. The portions are huge and most of the time you can actually share your plates. If you want to skip the wait on a busy night or busy lunch, the cocktail tables are open seating but we've gotten really terrible service at the cocktail area because they're short staffed. The servers aren't as anticipatory. Most of the time, we ended up asking for what we needed such as silver ware, more chips, more water, a refill and our check. The mocktails are good with the Guava Strawberry Lemonade. The fajitas are a good start if you want to share your food family style. The prices are a little higher than most of your independent Tex-Mex restaurant. I just got disappointed with the quality of service here and I've gotten better service at the North Dallas location. read more

The veggie quesadillas were amazing. There was no lack of quality just because there is no meat in them. I was wowed by the presentation, the marching with fruit, and the amazing tortillas on the side. I sat at the bar for quick service and only drank water. The bartender was very attentive and didn't make me feel uncomfortable for not getting a cocktail. The wait is long but it's totally, totally worth it for their duo of steak and lobster fajita dish for two (forgot the actual name). It's quite expensive at about $40 but I had my best Mexican food experience due to that dish, and I don't even like fajita! It's usually not on the menu but apparently they serve it if you ask for it. They're notorious for bad service but our was fast and hassle-free even during a really busy hour. I went to meet an old friend who was in town visiting over the Solstice Holidays. The shopping center was CRAZY busy and so was Uncle Julio's. I have been eating at this chain since I lived close to the one on Lemmon. My friend called it a "barn" because of the noise level. I wanted to take off a star because I don't like chains, but everything was great about my visit so I have to be fair. Even though it was crazy busy, we were seated right away when my friend arrived after a victorious fight with insane traffic. Our server was top notch, knew the menu and the drinks, which arrived quickly. Yay! I had chicken enchiladas with verde sauce, which were excellent, great hot kick to them. I love the food here and generally the service was good . But today the hostess was rude. We were there at 5:20pm. the hostess informed us the wait would be 20-30 mins. Which we accepted and waited. When my husband went up and inquired whether the table was ready, the hostess did not answer but informed us the obvious that we have waited for 27 minutes. (Yes we were counting, because we were waiting with 4 young children in our group) After my husband asked again, she said the wait is 45mins. When my husband told her we were told differently, she then again stated we've waited 27mins, and the wait time is 45 mins. I don't know what happened, but her attitude definitely needed some adjustment. Would probably not come to this location again. read more

I love Mexican food and usually will stay away from the "big-box" chains.. but this place had some of the best Flautas I have had.. Hot, Crispy, very flavorful w/ pico de gallo, guacamole.. and a good house margarita to wash it down! Very nice patio service. My co-worker had a more exotice dish and raved over it.
