Completely taken back by this joint and equally astonished that I didn't know there was one in Boca Raton, FL. Within walking distance of the hopping area off of International BLVD lyes the Orlando Eye plaza surrounded by many of your favorite chains and other well know restaurants. Our daughter wanted nachos so Mexican it was for the day. Don Julio's was .3 miles away and off we went. Walking in the design and decor reminds me of a chic traditional Mexican hacienda with an open fire, fresh produce on the walls, small window panes peeking into the next room, and surround by beautiful colors. Not only was the ambiance right but the food was ON POINT. Growing up on Mexican food I know the good from the bad. Don Julio's brings culinary flare to ancient old food. I definitely wouldn't say they serve traditional Mexican food but when you can make skirt steak taste like ribeye your doing a mean job at nailing technique. Let's save the best for last...... I love to take my girls here for their birthdays,they always have fun hitting the piñata with the bat! The food is very good at Uncle Julio's, and after this last trip here, I have eaten my way through more than half of the menu. We ordered the Steak fajitas,and all I can say is, if my pants didn't tell me,"enough with the eating", I would have finished the whole plate.It's the kind of place where someone's abuela is cooking in the back. Came here to a private dinner which was a staffing train wreck. Forty people with one server and a helper. Poor lady had to set up, take orders, bus the tables practically on her own. I hope she made a lot but the management destroyed her ability to do good service. Six times ordered a drink. Very dysfunctional ordering. Everything around the customer service was a wreck. Not her poor fault. Food was right what you would expect with this chain. Usually I like it, but the whole encounter went down by this management miss. Great customer service, friendly staff, slow service, mediocre food, high prices. My friends and I visited around 2pm on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Our waitress was really nice, though we did have to wait a while for her to refill waters and get our other beverages. It took about twenty minutes for our entrees to come out, and when they did, my friend's tortillas for her tacos were cold. The manager ended up taking them off the bill, which was really nice, and before that, offered to remake the whole plate for her. We were so hungry waiting for our food that we ate way too many chips. They are so good, especially when they're hot. Well-seasoned, crispy, and fresh. The salsa has a complex flavor without being spicy. We got a free guacamole, because one of my friends had signed up for the online deal. It was prepared at our table by a friendly server whose job was, apparently, to be the exclusive guac maker. We had to wait about ten minutes for him to make guac for the table next to us before he could wheel his cart over to us. Once we got it, we all enjoyed the freshness and the flavor. (Tip: get the jalapeños on the side if your party is divided on spiciness.) I ordered the raspberry frozen margarita, and it was delicious! I was sad that it came in a plain tall mug, however. No margarita glass. I was particularly disappointed because I know Chuy's in the next plaza over has AMAZING frozen margaritas that are cheaper, more plentiful, and come in an actual margarita glass. Also, since we had to wait for our food for so long, my drink was gone before I even got a whiff of my entree. The taco plates don't even come with any sauce, and sour cream is a .99 cent up-charge. Who wants to eat dry tacos?! My friends ended up just using leftover salsa from our chips. The friend who asked for sour cream was not advised she would be charged extra for it either. The Juanita Platter was good but underwhelming. The Elvis Combo at Chuy's has more food, more sauce, and better tasting beans and rice for $4 less. When all was said and done, we all concluded Chuy's is the better way to go if you're on I-Drive and hungry for Mexican food. Uncle Julio's is just too expensive, and the value is just not there. I came here with my family from the Azores (Portugal) and they absolutely loved it! I feel like you can never go wrong with Mexican food and this place did not disappoint at all. The bacon wrapped shrimp and chicken fajitas are a new special and wow so delicious. I ordered the chicken bowl which had beans, corn, carrots, onions, chips, lettuce, and dressing! One star for the food; the rest was something to be desired. After working late met a friend and went to Uncle Julio's where we asked if they were still open hostess said yes, but only at the bar. We sat at the bar where the bartender stated we had to order for takeaway because they did not want to have to wash more dishes. We ordered dinner and had a couple drinks as we waited. Our food came out boxed and bagged as if we were not going to eat in. We took our food from the bag and began to eat when another bartender removed the bar chairs next to me and began to sweep at my feet, so disgusted by this, I asked the bartender to please not sweep near me while I m eating. She stated well we're cleaning now so we're not here until 2am. Then she began cleaning the frozen Margarita machine which were right next to use. She used bleach!!! Now all we could smell while eating is strong bleach. Totally ruined our appetite and experience. The last that made us not finish our food is the same bartender began cleaning a well right next to use using water and cleaning solution and a nasty smelly rag and was flinging the solution into our direction barely missing our food. It was good but not the best guacamole I have had. I loved the guacamole maker bc he insisted that my kids come up to help and place a chef hat on them. That was super cute and entertaining! AMAZING food, crap service. Top 5 fish tacos I've ever had, the salsa, queso, and black beans were all beautiful with a great smoky flavoring. The only drinks were margaritas, but those were a fair price for the quality and quantity of them. Atmosphere was also superb with the beautiful building plus a mariachi band. Our server was insanely slow despite going at off time with few other patrons present. Dishes pilled the table and we couldn't get a refill until our meals had finally come. We had a large party, so I can't really comment on the service, because that is always difficult, but the food was all pretty good. There isn't really a standout appetizer or entree, although the spicy seared tuna tacos that I had were probably the best item. One person complained they were cold, but since they're almost raw tuna and slaw, it seems appropriate. Their unique item is the chocolate pinata, a suspended sphere of chocolate that you break open with a bat to scatter fruit and churros into the whipped cream moat below. Service was horrible. 10 minutes before server came to table. Ordered drinks and server wanted our food order too. We ordered table side guacamole and another appetizer. It took a little while but the guacamole came over. We still hadn't got our drinks yet. Now we are at about 40 minutes. We always talk so it's not a bad time but it is irritating that the the server said at the beginning the bar is a little slow but 40 minutes??? I grabbed a manager and told him we were still waiting on drinks. He apologized and compt the drinks. Then the entrees came out, still no drinks at this point. I tools them we still don't have our drinks or appetizer. There is absolutely no reason a drink order should take 40 minutes. Once I said something, it less than 10 minutes. A server that gives a care, would have told the manager after drinks didn't show up after 10-15 minutes. Horrible service. Kitchen was on point. Front of house could not deliver. Bartenders catering to only the customers right in front of them, they probably get a mandatory tip out from servers. BS. I wouldn't tip them at all or they should return the tip to servers. This was our favorite restaurant we ate during our trip to Orlando. Everything was amazing from the customer service to the taste of all of the dishes we had. PSA: If you sign up for the rewards on their website you get a free table side guacamole to your rewards immediately (it's delicious do it). My son got the tacos and he's normally a picky eater and he ate his whole plate. He said they were his favorite tacos he had ever eaten. My husband and I shared the filet fajitas and they were so good. The filet fell apart with my fork and I didn't need a knife at all. At the end of your meal, they bring you complimentary chocolate pieces that they make in house and it is really an unknown gem. We actually wanted to buy bars of it, but the waiter informed us that they only make it as a complimentary tasting. I hope they change this because it was so good and I would love to have more! We were hanging out at icon Park and we remembered that uncle julios had The famous chocolate piñata that we were dying to try! We had just eaten lunch so that is all that we ordered! Let me start off by saying this chocolate pinata was huge!! They brought it out quickly and my husband did the honors of breaking it! It was such a fun experience and it is filled with fresh strawberries, pineapples, churros and you have chocolate dipping sauces and whip cream! It was so delicious I could've eaten the whole thing by myself but it was too big haha. Our waiter Thomas was extremely sweet and checked up on us to see if we needed anything. Our daughter and her friend wanted to visit the Icon Park, including the Orlando Eye, Madame Tussauds Orlando, the Orlando Aquarium, as well as SKELETONS. Our server Alyssa, was as cute as a bug's ear; and, was so very polite, helpful, and really a consummate host. My wife had the Seared Tuna Tacos, which she enjoyed very much. I had Juanita's Platter, which included one of the best hard-shelled tacos I ever tasted, as well as some exceptional rice and beans, and two or three enchiladas with different meat and sauce combinations. I don't usually eat a full plate when I dine out; but, in this case, I had nothing to take back with me. My wife went back to Uncle Julio's with the girls, after dropping me off at the conference; and, they had a great time... they had the same server! And, Alyssa couldn't stand seeing my wife seated without any food; and, brought her a small, complementary order of rice and beans. I joined Uncle Julio's e-rewards club; but, they need to work on that. Both times have been because I was invited out or because Yardhouse had a long wait. The service is friendly, but the food is just blah. It's a just step above Taco Bell. The average American can cook this food at home and it will taste on par to Uncle Julio's or better. Definitely not authentic (although I never expected it to be, just in case someone thinks they are about to get real Mexican lol). I just left and had to come home to cook because I came home hungry after leaving the restaurant but if you're a tourist and within walking distance and you're hungry and surrounding restaurants have a wait, then this place is decent (and prob won't have a wait...) We ended up grabbing seats to not continue to walk around searching for a food place. Out waiter though I forgot his name was great. We ordered a small bowl of guac to have with our chips with. I will say everything was delicious and they make everything from scratch so I'm the case anyone had food allergies they are able to alternate their recipes. We then tried to make a reservation, and had to cal because of our party Souza. No reservations were available because they were short staffed. We came here back in March and they were not doing reservations at all and o my doing walk ins. Be consistent Uncle Julio's; this is how you lose customers. I understand that you may be under staffed, but that's no excuse. Do better. If I could give 0 stars I would have.
