Finally got Uncle Tetsu as a sweet treat before leaving the mall! I've tried their location in San Mateo, so I was happy to see this shop! It's on one corner of the mall near 99 ranch market, right by Nordstrom and the indoor playground. It's a small shop for taking your sweets to go! They have seasonal flavors like black sesame; we missed out on trying their mango cakes. They have tarts from black sesame, original, ube, and matcha. My mom was skeptical of the price point for the ube burnt basque cheesecake since it was $26. We got it nonetheless and I was surprised by how heavy and dense it was! It's creamy and thick, and semi-sweet. The entire family enjoyed it. Would come here again for a sweet treat. read more

I love black sesame dessert and when I saw that Uncle Tetsu had a black sesame cheese tart, I had to come and try it. The store was near the 99 Ranch/Living Spaces side. There're a few tables near the store in front of other restaurants. Very simple menu with mainly cheesecake, cheese tarts and burnt basque cakes. Unfortunately, the black sesame cheese tart was a disappointment. There was only a hint of black sesame flavor, and the cheese itself was just ok. The cheese tart at Maruwu Seicha had a much richer cheese flavor and was more enjoyable than the one at Uncle Tetsu. Not sure if I would come here again to try their other offerings. read more

It's a quick stop, grab-n-go kind-of location. I'm a huge fan of Uncle Tetsu back in the days when we had to drive all the way to San Mateo and got in a long line just to get one of these coveted jiggling soft Japanese cheesecakes. Nowadays, it's just 10 minutes away and there's no line at all (at this location). The closest parking is in the garage next to Living Spaces. As soon as you step inside the automatic glass doors, you'll spot Uncle Tetsu right away, with its signature smiley logo and delicious smell of freshly baked cheesecakes. Their cheesecakes are famous for being light, fluffy and melts in your mouth. A guilty pleasure that won't make you feel so guilty! $18.75 (used to be $12-$13) for a cheesecake is still a reasonable price to me, considering it probably costing you more time and money to make it yourself. I love that the cheesecake's quality here is consistently regardless of which location you get it from. I highly recommend the original flavor as it brings out the best cheesecakes flavor. But feel free to try their seasonal flavor if you're adventurous. We bought the mango cheesecake and matcha cheese tart for our goodies hunt today. Both are delicious and refreshing. The matcha cheese tart is a bit grassy and bitter for my taste but the texture feels nice. Overall, this grab-n-go store looks very clean and neat! Staff was respectful and helpful. First time I try Japanese cheesecake. By the weight of it, I'm sure I ate only 25% of the calories I get with the regular cheesecake. It is so light and delicious, not as a strong taste as American cheesecake, but it is really light. I ate it and I was done. I felt not heavy like I usually feel with a regular cheesecake. It is seven dollars, so it's not cheap. Could be enough for two people. Experience for me so I will give it five stars as a starter. Quit service and the place looks cool. The worker was so angry, he threw the cake against the wall. I bought an oreo cake on the 12th from a yoing lady at the oakridgel ocation. The cake i pointed to with an oreo displayed in the front was for my daughter's birthday. Got home, it didnt have the oero on top. Next day, brought it back and asked to exchange or refund it. I let my daughter blow her candle and have 2 slices because it was her b day and we live in another town. There was a young man working and he didnt want to help. He was huffing and puffing, getting red in the face the asked to give him the bag with cake and threw it against the wall. I stood there with shock and was a bit scared. I told him that its false advertisement to sell something in the display. He finally asked for the receipt and did the refund but was angry while doing so. I told my co worker to go back to take a picture of him. He had tattoos on his arm but when she went there were 2 other guys. I was also going to tell mall security because that type of behavior over a cake was not ok. I wasn't yelling or being irrational but he took it to another level by throwing the cake. My co worker also said they changed the display with the oreo to the one without it. I do like their cakes and have bought from here many timee, but I will not be purchasing from them again and I've been spreading word of mouth to my clients. Came into Uncle Tetsu Japanese cheesecake for their seasonal cheesecake flavor. Their seasonal flavor at the moment is cherry blossom and of course we had to try it. The cheesecake itself is very fluffy and sponge cake like. The cherry blossom flavor is floral similar to rose petal, a bit soapy, but not overwhelming and light and fresh. I visited on the weekend around 30 minutes after opening but the basque cheesecake needed some time to be prepped because they weren't available yet. So I came back an hour or two later and ordered the seasonal cherry blossom cheesecake along with the strawberry basque. The basque is closer to "normal" cheesecake - very dense/heavy and sweet, though not particularly cheesy. Strawberry flavor is mild as well. The cherry blossom flavor isn't particularly different from the normal one. It's known for being "not as sweet" but it's a little sweeter than something like angel food cake despite having a similar texture. read more

My sister-in-law and I were shopping at the mall one day and we were getting ready to head back to our car when I caught sight of this spot out of the corner of my eye. They're nestled right in front of the kid play area across from the Daiso in the mall. it looked like they had the soft fluffy cheesecake and I absolutely love that but I can never find a good place to buy some so we figured why not come here. The staff is very helpful with any questions we had in regards to what was in certain items that they had on display, and we each ended up buying two cheesecakes a piece. I am so glad that we did because we really got a good variety and none of the flavors disappointed at all. The ambience here is kind of loud because it's not really closed off from the kids play area so there really is no 'inside' to speak of, but honestly, you're just going there, you're selecting what you want and then you're going on about your day at the mall so it's not really an issue. I waited until we got to my place to try them and oh my gosh, they are absolutely delicious. They are so light, so fluffy, not overpowering with sweetness. They really do have a beautifully balanced, sweet flavor to them in my opinion and they are big enough that you could either split it with a partner if you're feeling like you really just wanna gorge on some sweets or you can cut it up and divide it amongst friends or family if you bought it to share. Would absolutely come here again. when I first came here it was prior to Mother's Day so I didn't even realize that my cheesecake actually said happy Mother's Day on it until I got home. I am so glad Uncle Tetsu came to Oakridge! I loved their cheesecakes but wasn't a fan driving to ValleyFair to have my cravings fixed. Now that they are close by, I'm sure I'll frequent here more often than my usual bakeries for cakes. Out of all their flavors, I've tried their original, oreo, and pandan. Original is still my personal favorite. I'm still curious about their Ube and Strawberry. Although a little pricy for their size, they make pleasant gifts for any individual or event. They have a loyalty system when you get a stamp for a cheesecake. I always buy burnt basque, which is my favourite and get my card stamped. However, at this location they refused to stamp my card and said that only plain cheesecake earns stamps and actually offered to buy a cheeper cheesecake! It's just ridiculous. Oh my gosh Im do glad this came in. We always go to the one in the Valley Fair mall. We love all of the flavors. Don't worry they aren't strong. The burnt basque cheesecake is dense more like new York cheesecake. All of the others are soufflé style or Japanese style fluffy cheesecake. Omg I am so glad that there is an Uncle Tetsu in Oakridge! It is to die for! I had never had a Japanese cheesecake before and now I love them! They are not as sweet as a regular pancake which I like. The texture is softer I think. I really like how the mini store is set up and all the people are so kind there. Service is so fast because they already have the cheesecakes made. This is some of the best Japanese to-go dessert places you can visit outside of Japan! With dun dun DUUUUN, multiple flavors with what, FRESHNESS. Not sure why there's only 2 reviews, I couldn't post a review earlier when I bought my share, but I'll do it now just to prove a point. They have great service, me and my partner went 3 times in total and we got nothing bad to say. If you want a specific flavor of cheesecake or tarts, go early, they run out towards the end of the day. That's how fresh they are, never a day old~consistent. They are located in the mall, so this is a surprisingly good place to try! Was recommended the Pandan cheesecake, not disappointed. Actually has the flavor right! Probably will stay as a favorite. Also got their original, chocolate, and ube tarts. My partner says it's nicely custard-y, the chocolate was not missing the chocolate, and the ube is not bad (I'm picky with ube). Overall, try the tarts for sure. Lastly, got their Basque Cheesecake. Honestly, not that different from their original, except it's a little heavier in comparison to the usual airness and has a bit of that meant to be burnt taste on top. Still worth, buuuuut I think I'd rather pick 2 flavors of the usual cheesecake than the Basque Cheesecake. HOWEVER, maybe I'll change my mind when I try their Oreo Basque Cheesecake! 5/5 stars to get this place going! Definitely coming back! read more
