Today my daughter and I visited for the first time. We were excited to try this place and read up on it. Our first impression was very good, the server was friendly and helpful, the restaurant was exceptionally clean. Things went a bit downhill from there. I ordered shrimp tacos and my daughter chose a burger and a bowl of cream of crab soup. She said the soup had a good flavor but very little crab meat. Her burger was only okay. The shrimp on my tacos was dry, but that was the least of my problem. While chewing the shrimp I felt something pointy and discovered a small piece of wood. I nearly swallowed it. When our server came over, I showed her the piece of stick. I only wanted to make her aware of it, I didn't complain about it. Her response was "Well, the shrimp is put on a skewer to grill." Though i have never been to Hawaii, i really enjoy trying something different. Little did i know: Uncle's has food that is unique, but not weird. They use sustainable, responsible sources that are fresh and obviously high quality! The spam Masubi was great, and the dumplings were over the top. (Before i got my entree, i had decided i would just order these for my whole meal on the next visit). Once i got my entree, though, i understood the locals' obsession with this place. I came here with a few friends because we were all craving some Hawaiian food. The ambience of the restaurant was very nice, the servers were great, and the food was tasty! I ordered the loco moco, which is like a burger patty on top of rice covered with gravy, topped with a fried egg. The dish came with a scoop of mac salad and some kimchi also. The burger patty was cooked perfectly to my liking, and the gravy was yummy too. I will say that I didn't really like the mac salad, and I thought the kimchi was sour as well. But other than that, my dish was good. I think it was a bit on the pricey side ($14.50), so I probably would order something else next time. My friends got the Hukilau burger and the lunch portion of ribs, which they both liked, but agreed that the mac salad wasn't that great. Although the menu is a bit pricey, I do appreciate how their ingredients are all locally sourced and how they donate 25 cents per check to Food Bridge. They also have a little book with pictures of some entrees at each table, which is nice if you are curious to see what some of the food looks like. My friend and I were craving some Hawaiian food and decided to make the drive all the way out here. The restaurant is locally sourced and you can definitely tell how fresh everything is. We ordered the spam musubi, salmon poke, and the Auntie's plate. The musubi's were huge. The 2 big ones as starters were delicious. The spam was cooked perfectly and light crunch with their house made sauce was so good. The poke was so fresh and the cuts of fish were big. Loved the combination of onions, fish and the chips. Auntie's plate was an entree sampler. You get spicy salmon poke, stir fried vegetables, beef and some fried chicken katsu. If you like your food separate and not touching this dish will not be for you. Just because they put everything together on one dish. Highly recommend ordering this if you want to try a little of everything. I came for lunch and for the amount of food we got it was reasonably priced. This was our first time going here. I've passed it on Rt 1 probably a thousand times and never knew it existed. I'm glad I found it! We sat outside which has a nice ambience. To start off, we got their fried crab crabby sticks which were very good. I did not think to take a picture of them. What elevated them was the approx 3/4 ladle of cream of crab soup that they sat on in the bowl and you could use as a dipping sauce. Included in the soup was fire roasted corn and crumbled bacon on top, which also added to the taste. I also had the blueberry lemonade vodka drink which was very good, and I'm not a huge vodka fan. I had 2. For dinner we had the katsu and waffle. This is one of our top 3 favorite dishes of all time. The chicken was breaded perfectly, and the waffles were very good. However, what made it amazing was the pineapple sriracha maple syrup. That syrup is amazing and should be bottled and sold. My wife is not a fan of spicy things, and was hesitant to try this. She LOVED it, because it wasn't too spicy. The syrup starts out sweet, but then the heat kicks in, which again, is not overpowering. (Someone may or may not have run their finger over the plate to make sure no syrup went to waste). We will be back soon to eat this again. We also got the Uncles Mix plate. The grilled beef teriyaki had one of the best teriyaki sauces I've ever had. The chicken was good as well, since it was braised in the same teriyaki sauce as the beef. I also dipped it in the sweet chili sauce, which was also tasty. The shrimp were also excellent, and I used the sweet chili sauce to dip them in, but also dipped them in the teriyaki sauce from the beef. I came here after hiking Red Rock trail and swimming at Kilgore falls so me and my friend were extremely hungry. We were recommended this place by another friend who had done the same activities and they said this is some of the best food they've ever had. My friend and I really liked the food and it was very satisfying after a long day of outdoor explorations. We ordered the spam musubi and I was ready to be critical about it because I regularly make it at home but the secret sauce and rice seasoning combined really made it out of this world. It was super yummy spam musubi so I recommend trying it if you want different variations of this Pacific Island staple. My friend had the Da Kalua Pig and I had the Chicken Katsu. I sampled my friend's dish and really liked how they cooked the pork shoulder. I liked my chicken katsu however, I'm a huge critic (unfairly so) because I've had authentic chicken katsu from Japan but this wasn't too bad. I had to top it off with soy sauce to get more flavor from it. They serve Hawaiian King rolls with some really delicious butter. The butter was sweet and complemented the sweetness of the rolls really well. I felt like they had honey or pineapple in that butter. I was disappointed that I couldn't sample their drink menu. Their options looked amazing as I'm a big fan of pineapple drinks but they wouldn't accept my ID because I'm from Florida and I guess their ID book wasn't updated. I also am in my 20s but look like I'm in high school still...I understand their logic of being strict but just a warning for out-of-towners. Service wasn't too bad, it was hard to get my server's attention a few times even though the restaurant wasn't too busy. They are nice and accommodating and the manager checked on us a few times as we were dining. We were seated near the front of the restaurant even though there was plenty of seating available more towards the center but it was alright. I think because of that I couldn't get a good sense of the ambiance of the restaurant but it has Hawaiian decor throughout and is pretty lively and bustling. They have a separated bar but I didn't get to see it. All in all, I'd come back mainly for the food. I haven't been to Hawaii so I am not sure how authentic it is but I've had a lot of dishes from Pacific Islanders and this was alright. Eating here was just like when I was eating in Oahu! The food here is legit! We started with Hawaiian nachos and the poke boat sampler. The fried tofu poke was so amazing. The firecracker sauce on the salmon poke was just the right amount of heat. My husband really enjoyed the tuna poke too. The Hawaiian nachos were huge! the perfect amount of toppings versus chips too. For entrees my husband got the loco moco and loved every bite of it. Love this place. My family lived in Hawaii for a number of years, so getting getting out fill of spam musubi gets tough out here on the east coast. They also carry Ted's Bakery sometimes. Was visiting my brother with my mom and he took us to this Hawaiian place. There is no Hawaiian places around where I live so I figured why not try. The restaurant was so clean and organized. I got the Mr. Goo's Mango & Pork. It was good. I like the mango and cucumber salad with the shredded pork. I just wish the sandwich came out a hot so that the cheese is hot. My brother got the Pork Chop Katsu. His meal looked amazing with the egg on top and it came with sticky rice and Mac salad. I love the Mac salad and would have gotten more if I could. LoL. He said he likes it. And my mom got the Hawaii Five-O Burger. Which she actually finished (she never finishes a burger) which says a lot. I was born and raised in Hawai'i and this place hit the spot for my husband and I. We really miss the food back home and decided to give this place a try. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and seated right away at a booth so were able to prop our baby on the table in her carseat. The employees were friendly and their uniforms match the look and feel of the restaurant. The place is clean and has giant canvas prints of iconic places/ things from back home: Giovanni's Shrimp truck, Hale'iwa North Shore sign, Ted's bakery, pineapple fields, and more. Each table had a decorative Spam designed tin with condiments that included furikake and Aloha shoyu! We ordered the sweet and sour meatballs and Queen Street Poke for pupus (appetizers). We each had a lau lau plate for our entree and the Kanak Attack for dessert. Also, two Hawaiian Sun jucies: pineapple orange and strawberry guava. The juices were expensive at $3.50 a can, but can't enjoy them unless family back home ship us powdered versions which are still limited on flavors. The food is a little pricey and portion sizes are on the smaller side, but everything was ono. The sweet and sour meatballs (4 roughly golf ball sized) were seasoned well, tender, juicy and flavorful, with just the right amount of sweet and sour from the grilled pineapple slice. The Queen Street poke was what we were excited for because finding quality RAW and FRESH ahi in MD is next to impossible. You only get four ounces and we were a little sad it was so little, but it tasted just like poke back home. If you're curious about Hawaiian poke this is the place to try it. They do it right. The lau lau plate came with one scoop white rice, one scoop mac salad, a nicely sized lau lau and a tiny cup each of cucumber mango salsa and chili pepper water. The rice needs less water when cooked because it was mushy. Lau lau is a traditional Hawaiian dish and Uncle's does it right. My husband and I were just confused about the chili pepper water. We have never seen anyone add it to their lau lau back home. We usually just eat it with lomi lomi salmon, poke, and poi or rice or both. We finished off our meal with the Kanak Attack dessert which was super ono, too. It's a Hawaiian sweet bread pudding. Look it up on Uncle's menu online and you'll want a Kanak Attack, too, and probably have one while driving home. We nearly did. Haha. :P Lastly, the manager Leana is a local girl, too. We talked story with her and it was refreshing to make that connection with someone from back home. She recommended we have the Hawaiian Nachos on our next visit. We've been coming to Uncles off & on since they opened & it's been a steady decline. We went Saturday Oct 21st & it wasn't too busy. Service was ok but man, this place got really dirty. The walls, particularly the baseboards were filthy. Too much trash on the floor under tables & in corners too. You can get a good feel for the restaurant by how clean or dirty the bathrooms are. The mens bathroom at Uncles was atrocious. We got the nachos as an appetizer but there was very little toppings & not enough mango either. It was mostly cucumber & shredded cabbage. My wife & I got the Uncles mixed plates & it was very very meh. Again, the service was ok, but the quality of food was not good & the place was filthy. We won't be going back. read more

I have been dining here since they originally opened a few years ago. Always have been a big fan of the unique food options and their awesome happy hour. Decided to come check out their new Tiki Bar on a beautiful sunny day! As always, I was thoroughly impressed with the food, drinks, and service. The Tiki Bar itself is massive and inviting! I love the hanging decor from the it's tall ceiling including an old jet ski, boat chains, flags, and lights. The space is truly a spectacle and you feel like you are transported into a completely different environment! We sat at the bar and ordered some signature drinks including the pineapple mojito and pineapple orange crush. Superbly refreshing! We also got 3 different appetizers so that we could snack on a variety of their offerings. Food came out quick and pretty. I have highly recommended this restaurant in the past to friends and family and I am happy to say that my rating for Uncles has continued to rise over the years. I love that they support local farms and provide a list of their vendors on their menu so you know exactly where your meal is sourced from. First of all, the service was fabulous. It wasn't very crowded, but still our server was incredibly attentive and the manager stopped by more than once to check on us. We were there for restaurant week, so our group tried a variety of menu items. For apps, we thought the Kalua Pig Lumpia was fabulous. Our party also enjoyed the Spam Musubi. We were less impressed by the Queen Street Poke, but honestly, I think our party members just prefers sushi to Poke. Still, it was well prepared, good quality, and an interesting item to try. For dinner, we tried the Saimin Hawaiian Style Ramen, which very heavily tasted of bonito to us, it overpowered the dish. We also got Hau'ula Beef Teriyaki, which was good, but not super impressive. The Misayo's Mahi Mahi was definitely the most impressive of the dinners we had. Some dinners came with rice and some macaroni salad, which isn't clear on the menu. I thought the plating for this was interesting, but not the most practical, considering the way our party was seated (Ramen folks don't get rice/macaroni), it involved a lot of impractical passing back and forth of plates. For dessert, the Kanak Attack was fabulous. Absolutely 110% would recommend. The Malasada Puffs were good, but not very sweet, which isn't super clear from the description. The sweet-toothed should definitely aim for the Kanak. For drinks, I think our party only tried the Pineapple Mojito, the Lillikoi Passion Fruit Drink, and a frozen coffee cocktail that I don't see on the menu (forgot what it was called). The Pineapple mojito was tasty, but not super strong, and the pineapple taste was fairly faint imo. Overall, I'll come back and try some other things, but I probably won't go out of my way to do it in the near future. Give it a try! read more

2/4/22 I ordered the Tuna Poke appetizer. The tuna was GRAY!! I asked my server if it was frozen and he said no that it is marinated. This is the first time I have ever gotten tuna poke and it wasn't red in color. Needless to say I did not eat it. The other three people I was with was not impressed with the food either. Love the colors and all the pictures/decor. I like how they really incorporated lots of things Hawaii is well known for, like the Spam tins on the tables. It's so well done, definitely one of the best decorated Hawaiian places that I've seen in the states! I absolutely love the menu. It includes all the Hawaiian staples and it really breaks it down for people who haven't ever tried Hawaiian food. It has a creative twist to most of the items and I really like that. I ended up ordering the laulau plate... I was also really amazed they were able to get the ingredients needed to make laulau... I'm sure it's not easy or cheap getting them all the way to Maryland! So, now I get to the part where I ultimately decided on four stars, instead of five. I'm from Hawaii and I was comparing the food to stuff I've had back home. I think the food was good, but compared to food back home, it's just average. If it wasn't for me being on the fence about liking and loving the food, I would definitely give this place five stars. I really love that this place supports local farms and all their products are non GMO. Went a few months ago, and it was really great: ordered pineapple mojito, spam musubi, crispy Brussels, and Hawaiian nachos and everything tasted fresh with a unique taste. Which brings us to the present, ordered wings, hot chick egg rolls, nachos and brothers burger. The wings were heavily breaded, decent sauce but little to no chicken. The egg rolls were all cream cheese, and one piece had tiny little hairs on it, as if it was touching a cotton ball. The burger, was way over cooked, the Kailua pig tasted sour and the guava bbq was bitter, the fries were terrible. When we got the bill, the burger was taken off but the drinks were more expensive than what was on the menu. We paid, gave the bartender a 20% tip but let her know the prices were different. I know it's not her fault, she just works there so I didn't want to take it out on her. Place is going downhill. read more

Having lived in Hawaii and been engulfed in the culture....it's hard to go to places that serve Hawaiian food on the mainland. Now saying that, we understand that over time places tend to cater to the taste buds of their mainland clients. The food at Uncles taste OK. It hurts me to say this, but I wasn't really impressed. BUT with saying that, I can also say that if you've only visited the touristy spots of the Pacific, you will enjoy Uncles! The Kalua pig was overcooked and the sea salt wasn't fully dissolved so every now and then you get the "crunch". The poke had a texture that was a little off and possibly not as fresh. Its nice having someplace new to eat at around here. Having said that I seriously hoping the only reason the service here sucked was because they're still training the servers. Me and a buddy ate here for lunch... got seated and took literally 15minutes for our waitress to ask us for drinks. Takes another 10 for a water and a lemonade. Great! At that rate i figured i was going to be sitting there for the rest of the day. So she asks us what we want to order, and I ask if a menu with more poke options than whats on the main menu is available. Apparently their isn't according to her, so I had to pull up the seperate menu online from my phone to show her. So I tell her what I want to order, but either apparently my English is bad or she's deaf as she keeps repeating the wrong order. I have to literally pull up my phone and point to her what I want. She finally gets it written down and asks us if we would like to get a pork dish when she LITERALLY just walks away to help another customer. She comes back 20mins later with our plates. Wings were great, sauce was unique and the chicken was fried well, it was crispy af. Spam musubi was large, it wasn't like authentic musubi but it tasted well regardless. Mix plate was pathetically small, but tasty, except the pork which was bland. Salmon poke wasn't good, the fish wasn't fresh and the portion was realllyyy small. Get the check and noticed the price for the poke was $2 higher compared to the menu. Show the waitress the price on the menu and she GRABS my phone out my hand and walks away, I guess to show her manager. I get my phone back 10 minutes later and she informs me the price was correct as I ordered a Poke "Bowl". I tell her its not what i ordered and she relents and takes it off the bill. Apparently even though I literally POINTED to what I ordered, she still got me the wrong thing. Overall the food was good but pricey, and the service was trash. Not a good start. We were looking forward to this place. We walked in at about 330 on a Monday. There was no one to be found. We stood in the doorway between the bar and the restaurant for 8 minutes before anyone came by and asked if we were being helped. That, by the way, was the first person we saw. Now, we were the only customers in the place....why did we wait another 10 minutes before we saw our waitress. COMPLETELY unacceptable service. We ordered "da poke boat", the spam musubi and the potstickers. It took another 20 minutes for us to get our appetizers. The Poke boat was substandard. The pieces of fish were all cut in different sizes except for the salmon. It wasn't cut completely at all so it was just one big piece of fish. The fried tofu was cold. The potstickers were overcooked and leathery. The absolute best dish was the spam musubi. We ordered the Saimin Ramen and the Pulehu steak. The ramen had an off taste.....almost a little dishwater-ish. Needless to say my girlfriend didn't eat much of it. I ordered my steak medium rare, it came out medium well. It was tender and out waitress was MIA so i ate it. It's a shame the service and food are barely ok, I was really hoping to find a new favorite place to eat.
