First time having shave ice! The regular size was kind of pricey so we decided to order the keiki size. Good thing we did because that was enough for two people. The shop was small, but seemed to run efficiently with one person taking the order and another making the ice. We got watermelon, lime, and vanilla with vanilla ice cream and a sno-cap. The ice was finely grated and the flavors were good together. I think adding the sno-cap made it too sweet for me. Next time, I want to try it with the macadamia nut ice cream! read more

What he's learned in his past businesses is to research the product and deliver it time and time again. I take the same approach when cooking meth. I found Uncles shave ice the best on Kauai. It reminds me of Fluff Ice in Monterey Park. The ice is so fluffy that it's almost a cross in texture between yogurt and icees. I really enjoyed the flavor of the shave ice, too, in that it wasn't too sweet/sugary and tasted natural or moderate in flavor. I found the place clean and organized, and the service impeccable. Their shaved ice is pretty good and their shaved snow is little rich so it doesn't cool you off much. We ordered the shaved ice the first day we were at kauai. Their shaved ice is the best because we had the shaved ice everyday from different places and the softness of the ice is much better at Uncles and the topping juice is not too sweet. So my son wanted Uncles Shave Ice, we went to the Kukuiula one. I swear this girl is not happy being the there, or hasn't been trained properly. First she greets us with her back facing us. Then she says "order when you ready" while her back is facing us. I order a small honey toast, then she just walks away, not one word to go (I'm assuming) to start my honey toast. She walks back over, back still facing us, and says "anything else". So I said "a small shaved" cuts me off and says "anything else"? I just looked at her shook my head and said "no". Uncles is a good spot. The shave ices are HUGE!! I got the child size and had to knock half of it off to get to the ice cream before I was full. Shave Ice is my absolute favorite thing to eat in Kauai, I can't pass it up anytime I pass by one. Unfortunately, I don't think the juice at Uncles is as flavorful as the same flavors I get at my favorite shave ice in Koloa. It's still very tasty though and in a great shopping area. They do accept credit cards unlike some of the others... so that's a big plus. Make sure you get ice cream in it!! Although I was only given it by mistake and thought it sounded gross, I now think Macadamia Nut is the best ice cream to eat in the shave ice. Yum! read more

Today my friend and I had a honey toast. I had the regular Uncles Honey Toast and my friend had the Uncle Hawaiian Honey Toast. The only difference is the ice cream. I always get shave ice when I take trips back home to Oahu. This trip to Kauai, I tried Uncle's in Poipu. Small shop, a little slow with one worker which I didn't mind, but so expensive compared to other places I've been! I paid $7.75 for a small shave ice with condensed milk and mochi bits. It was $4.25 for a small, plus either $1.25 or $2.25 for add-ons. I usually get ice cream too, but that would've been an additional $2.25! The small is enough for 2 people to share, flavor and mochi were good. If it's your first time trying shave ice and you're on this part of Kauai, definitely good to go here, however there might be other places too on the East and North sides that could be better and cheaper. read more

As we walked through the shopping center, we were stopped by multiple people who's eyes were popping out of their sockets asking us where we got it. Yes this is a must have. BEST SHAVED ICE ON THE ISLAND!!!!! Hands down!!!! I have tried every single shaved ice stand/shack/establishment/cart that I have come across in my years visiting and Uncle's smashes the competition. Uncle Rick himself is very friendly and has a selection of other sweet treats but I want shaved ice. He makes his own ice AND his own syrups! They aren't too sweet and still they are filled with flavors. The only thing bad I can say was when I left yesterday I wanted one more but it was only 10:30am and he doesn't open until 11am.
