My boyfriend and I held out on going here for a little while, afraid it would be thronging with hipsters and yuppies. Thankfully, it was not, and the atmosphere was actually very enjoyable; the place gets mad props for interior decor. The liquor menu is pretty extensive and not as atrociously priced as we'd feared given the upscale vibe. The "steamed bun" we got wasn't the bao we thought it would be - more like a taco with a puffy tortilla - but it was tasty. All of the above would have resulted in a 4 or 5 star review - until I just happened to glance at our receipt after the waitress rang my boyfriend's debit card. For starters, they'd rung up our drinks as higher priced items on the menu, making our total $18 instead of $16. But they ran the card for $25! Who't pocketing that extra $9 gratuity, may I ask?! I pointed this out to our waitress, who apologized, saying she had no idea how it happened (naturally). She swore the original $25 charge was voided and she rang the card up for the actual total. Only time will tell if she was telling the truth, or if they scammed another $25 from us. Feeling taken advantage of by the staff totally killed the evening and the experience for us. Its an excellent place to get cocktails in Salt Lake. The staff is very helpful and the cocktails are amazing. They have a fantastic selection of spirits and it helps that they serve phenomenal oysters. I had a couple of cocktail last night but the bartender suggested since I like bourbon to try the Old Forester Birthday Bourbon. It was amazing! The oysters were delicious! The drink selection is enormous and really creative. I love drinks that have egg whites too and they have multiple to choose from. But holy jesus this place is LOUD. I spent about an hour and a half here with a group of friends and by the end of the night my voice was hoarse from having to scream in their faces. If you're looking for an up class, classy cocktail bar that's buzzing till it's closing then this is your place. It's packed on the weekends and rightly so. Dark lights, great vibes and cool people. The vibe is great. Their cocktail list is limited but they have loads of different drinks made of all kinds of quality liquor. I was rather disappointed with my old fashioned as it was watered down. Are we still in Salt Lake? Damn this place is swanky for the City of Saints. I love the broad range of places to grab a drink that are popping up around town. From divey (a personal fave) to more upscale, like Under Current. It's a great atmosphere to get together for a birthday celebration, date night, or pre-dinner cocktails. But I wouldn't roll out of the house in my boyfriend jeans (even through they're from Nordstrom) and AA hoodie and expect to fit in with the crowd here. Its definitely a little more hipster/dressy. But hey, when a place is this nice, I can spend a little extra time to look nice. The drinks are killer. I ordered off the menu and the bartender made a fantastic negroni. Loved Under Current for the cocktail menu and clam dip and chips. Sadly they have done away with the extensive cocktail menu which we raved about to friends on our way there. Arrived there last night and picked up the tiny menu. Now a few select drinks or select a flavor profile and let the bartender choose. The dip was watery and flavorless. For a small menu this shouldn't be difficult to keep consistent. The drinks we chose off the menu were excellent. 2 of the 3 bartender picks were also delicious. The third tasted a bit on the medicinal side. Fish and fries were also good. Three stars for the dip and tiny drink menu. While Bar X lacks the food, the drink idea is similar. Finally a classy bar with quality drinks! If you remember my review about the red door this place lives up to my love for it. I've been here 2x now and have formed a solid opinion. When you walk in you notice that it's a very long dimly lit room that initially seems super crowded. However, keep in mind there's an entire upstairs section with tables for the taking. I love the upstairs if there more than two people and you would like to have a conversation over drinks. The drink menu is extensive and well organized by type of liquor. Right at the bar you can tell the bartenders are proud of their craft. They mix and swizzle all sorts of conceptions with nothing but the best fresh ingredients. You can see the fresh juices in the respective containers. My Palma Fizz was one of the best drinks I've had! I knocked off one star due to service by the waitress we had on the first day I went. The place was pretty empty and it was long weekend. We waited for about 15 mins at our table to take our order, and another 20 or so for our drinks. Luckily we were having great conversation and stuck around. The drinks were worth the wait, but 30 mins for a cocktail is a bit much. I'm sure overtime I'll bump this to a 5 star review. read more

I have been wanting to try the restaurant Current from the moment I saw the construction start. I lived in Seattle for two years and when I moved back to SLC I knew I would have to pay to eat the good seafood if I wanted it again. I haven't made it into the restaurant but I did manage to get a friend to go to Under Current with me, and then went back two nights later for more. The service is great, all of the servers and bartenders are super friendly and knowledgable. The oysters are superb and I was informed that they are all flown in everyday and less than 24 hours old. And at $2.75 a piece, they are worth every penny. The servers were kind enough to explain the craft cocktails and what makes them so special and they make recommendations on what you might enjoy. The setting is so lovely and I am so excited that SLC is finally catching up to other major cities in the classy bar game. Mixology at its finest. I think this is a MUST for any visitors coming to Salt Lake. They have a great selection of local spirits (including my favorite High West), and the bartenders can be creative as you want as far as drink preference. I absolutely love this place. The ambiance is wonderful. It is a big, airy space with tasteful modern decor. I love that they have several seating options beyond the bar ranging from typical dining table and chairs, to a big sectional couch by the front window, to a more intimate comfy chair and padded bench area in the back. They have elegant fixtures and dimmed lighting so this place is perfect for a date night. The drinks were excellent. You get top notch, expertly prepared cocktails made with quality liquors without pretension or crazy prices. I can't speak to the wine selection, but the beer list had a good mix of quality options as well. The service was excellent. The bartenders were knowledgable, friendly, and approachable. Our server was great too. We were a big group who changed seats around our table quite a bit and our server had no trouble keeping our tabs accurate. Mostly a bunch of hip 30 somethings with money to spend. Well dressed, happy folks, ordering $11 cocktails. It's the same sort of decor as Current. Very modern, spacious, clean, with accents of wood to warm up the environment. The bartenders know what they're doing, and you'll pay for it. As long as you're OK with racking up a tab fairly quickly then it's not a bad place, especially if you're eating next door anyway. If you're on a budget, there's plenty of less expensive places a couple paces down the block. read more

Had a wonderful evening at the bar recently! Is the food overpriced for the portion, sure. However, the food was excellent! The cocktails were magical and sitting at the bar allows one to gain that extra perspective and insight directly from the talented bartenders. We watched them work, discussed the different spirits being used in said cocktails and had an all around great time! I wish I could remember the names of the drinks we had, but they were all good, mainly hailing from the bourbon portion of the menu. The food ordered consisted of the small charcuterie, clam chowder, steamed buns, fish and chips. The charcuterie was lovely and the clam chowder is delicious. For $7, I wish the soup was actually served in a bowl. It was a paltry portion. Steamed buns weren't a redo as they two were small and just ok. More sauce and a larger bun would have helped to fit the ingredients inside and keep the pork belly moist. The battered fish was fabulous! Light and juicy and the huge plate of fries were awesome. This definitely hit the spot as we were on our 2nd drink! We will be back! read more

Love the scene and everything however, when I get a fry plate for $9 that has lot of fries with 3 dips (which was great) and then get a $24 Charcuterie plate which as told by staff was for 4 and only had 3 small pieces of toast that is a bit silly. I understand that the cheese is "fancy" as the staff says.... But I've had cheese plates way better and with so much more, for cheaper. After asking if it was the small or large they did give us double what they gave us to begin with but the fact that we had to question why there was only three pieces of toast with the 4 person plate is unexceptional.
