I come here every so often for a wax. I always go to see Sunny she is fast, efficient, funny and knows what she's doing. Tonight I had to try Amy because Sunny had to leave early. I was called earlier in the day by the reception to notify me that Sunny was leaving early and Amy is available instead. I needed to take the appointment as I am leaving for vacation. When I got there I was early and was told I have a 15 minute wait so I decided to grab something to eat. I figured this was going to happen because Sunny was out. By the time I got back they were ready. The front desk receptionist Rashida (sorry if I misspelled your name) was great! Greeted me with a smile, showed me how to check in and even check in by her was AMAZING! Now for the in between waxing experience. Amy came in and did the standard procedure. She gave me a mirror for the part she finished but not the next part to check. When I got home I still had spots that were not taken care of that I had to do myself. I am paying for a service. If I wanted to do it at home I would've. I had wax all over me and even on my phone. Honestly the only reason I would come back is because of Sunny and the receptionist tonight. Went here for the first time a little more than a month ago (yes, a very late review, but well deserved). Jenet did my waxing, and she was very careful and attentive when placing the wax. She frequently asked if the wax temperature was tolerable, which I appreciated. Unsure if it was her waxing technique or the wax in general, but after arriving home I looked closer and noticed quite a few hairs that weren't removed on my legs, eyebrow and lip areas. I recently recommended a friend here and I am so glad it's still open. I came here for my very first Brazilian wax a few years ago for about a year until I moved. The girls were so welcoming and explained all my questions so nicely. I felt so comfortable, or as comfortable as I could while spreading my legs open to some stranger haha. What a horrible waxing salon! Though staff upfront are professional and kind, the whole waxing experience was terrifying, if not traumatizing. I went for a brazilian and upon entry, the room immediately gives you a sense of dread. Thoughts of how clean the table might be and how much time will be spent making sure it'll be a painless experience were first to enter my head. My technician was quick - 1 slab of wax all over which she quickly ripped off. She ripped it off so quick, as a matter of fact, that the wax, to my horror, flew in the air and landed on my cellphone next to me. The whole waxing experience was painful. I've been waxed before, and never had I had such a traumatic time. When I got back home, I still had remnants of dried wax stuck to my inner thighs. My cellphone also had some wax on it as well. I definitely would recommend going elsewhere for such a private and personal wax. read more

I would make special trips into the city to just get my waxing done, but now, I REALLY have no excuse not to cleanup my act! If you've ever been to a Uni K Wax Center, this set up in Brooklyn is just the same - clean, friendly, and private for your privates. Set up an account online and get notifications for deals on packages and special promotions! Now, the naming convention of what I call a Brazilian wax, is actually very different from how Uni K calls it, but if you're not sure, I always ask. Mamta was the girl who catered to my needs, and she was SO patient, gentle, and even at times, a bit comical! Overall, the process took 20 minutes or so, but the outcome was NOT red, but perfectly flawless! She really took her time, and even tweezed a little bit until she seemed overall satisfied. Great way to build a client base! Don't forget to steal a pen and a nail file on your way out; it was encouraged to do so! To establish credibility, I've been a Unikwax customer since 2009, and have always recommended it to friends. The midtown location is my favorite--all the waxers are fast, professional, and wonderful to work with! It's out of the way, but I go there every time. I live in Bay Ridge, so when I found out this location was opening, I was elated. I booked my appointment in its 3rd week of opening. My wax was UNLIKE any other wax I've ever had at the Midtown location! The waxer was somewhat unprofessional, and very slow with the service. What is usually a 15 minute session at the Midtown location, took about 25 minutes here. She seemed to be taking her time, and really liked to pile on that wax (which is just NOT necessary; one swipe of the wax and you're good, my friend.) She seemed to be almost "playing" with the wax, moving it this way and that. She also kept turning off and on the fan, which was very distracting and time-consuming. I wish she would just leave it on. Another thing is, she kept apologizing whenever she pulled off the wax. I'm sure she was just being polite, but hey, I'm here, I'm paying for this service, just do it and let me on my way. I REALLY wanted to like this place. Maybe once their staff is more professional and have more experience, I will return. But until then, I will continue going to the midtown location. Like everyone else, I go to see Sunny - she really is the best! I've been going to her once a month for the past 6 months or so for brows and underarms. I've never had any issues with wait times (maybe 5 minutes here and there), and she's always been efficient and thorough. One of the first times I went, I wanted my brows done a *little* thinner (I'm not into the real thick look, even though I have a LOT of brow), and she fixed it no problem. Definitely sign up for their rewards program and book your appointments online - I think you get $2 worth of reward points every time you use their online booking system rather than calling in. Honestly, this place would get 5 stars from me just because they don't try to upsell you on packages or products relentlessly just like EWC up the block. read more

Their quality and service has gone down tremendously since covid. There are two esthetician's there now who are clearly overworked. I question the sanitary conditions because the rooms are unkempt with old wax on the beds, dirty floors and the wax pot itself that's supposed to individualized look like it hasn't been cleaned in ages. Pros: 1.The place is really clean. Super professional and super clean and you have privacy just great. 2.The staff is really nice.They are really comforting and sweet. 3.There waxing services other than Brazilians are fine. I say it not because they don't do a good job. Cons: If you plan on getting a Brazilian if you have ingrown(hairs) on your lady parts its really hard to get everything out simply by using hard wax... they don't use tweezers at the end or anything to help other than the wax... so whatever your left with after they do like a few coats of the hard wax is just there. I mean I would go back as long as you don't expect to leave 100% happy if you've ever been to a Brazilian(European) waxing center were they tweeze and everything. Ok so this my very first experience at this place. I've had Brazilians before and I know how painful they can be. Amy was so great. It wasn't as bad as my other experiences and she was very efficient and patient with me.. I'm like Sasquatch level and she needed to get more wax which was embarrassing but she didn't make me feel badly at all. My hair is very coarse and thick so I expect the pain but this was not so bad. As I read other negative reviews I agree the receptionist could care less about you and the other technician (not Amy) was very abrupt but it didn't turn me off. I'm kind of abrupt too so I guess I appreciate the frankness and honesty. I will definitely be back. I would just advise others that if you're looking for Warm and fuzzy this is not the place for you. However if you want semi painless and efficient service then go see Amy. I've read multiple reviews and then decided to go to Bayridge location. I have to say this was my best decision ever. Not only was the service super quick and amazing but the atmosphere was extremely welcoming. The receptionist made sure I was greeted and I gave her all the information. She quickly put me in the room for service. I did my wax with Amy and she was quick. The location is very clean and it smells really good. I read somewhere that Uni K Wax has painless wax and I was skeptical because every girl I knew already got their Netherlands done painfully apparently. I was greeted by the clerk, Iris. She confirmed my appointment and off I went with Sunny. Sunny is the most sweetest, funniest, and is very fast on the job. It actually didn't hurt which surprised me because I was so worried for nothing. I saw some reviews on Yelp before, but oh my. I would 10/10 go again. The wax was green which I was surprised, but I read on the site later it's infused with some pine extract. Also I recommended this place to a few of my other friends hoping for a similar experience, but I guess I wasn't as sensitive as them there. After getting it done, I was surprised it didn't grow back immediately. It took more than 2 weeks for me to actually have growth there, but ingrowns were a slight problem. So I bought a sponge there, it comes 2 a package for $6. When it soaked in water, I was surprised it curves concavely. Fibers are soft, but the rougher side is where you're supposed to hold from. Never again and will let others know and complaint about this bay ridge store. 2- the girl told me if I could get there early, I said yes and when I got there, she said that she never said so. I have been getting full brazilians for years now (honey/azulene/chocolate/hard/etc), and I am someone who will return loyally for a service no matter the distance. With a job in midtown, I had no problems going to Astoria for my first wax based on a strong referral. I have since used Lifebooker to find salons in surrounding areas to the job. In my 8 years in Sunset Park, I have never needed to find a salon close to home until this weekend. I didn't see anything appealing via LB, so I turned to my fellow Yelpers and searched via zip code. Just a neighborhood away, Uni K jumped out at me with its ratings and several locations. I wondered what an "ouchless" wax really was like. I easily signed up for an account online and made an appointment for the next morning. I was a little confused by all the options (bikini/brazilian/front/top/back/what!?) but figured I could choose the Brazilian front and have them explain what I needed when I arrived and asked. I wanted it all off so the choice was exactly that - "Full Brazilian Bikini Front Top and Back." I was late but they didn't penalize me (note: you do not need a CC to make an appointment online!), and they were able to squeeze me in for the next hour. The two women at the front desk, Suzan and Nelly, were friendly and accommodating. Suzan did a great job of explaining their wax technique, even though I hadn't asked. The facilities are very clean and simple, and for a salon to focus purely on waxing, you know you are going to receive stellar service. My technician's name was Sunny, and she was exactly that! We chatted just enough, and I was extremely surprised and happy to receive such a great wax. The Uni K formula is a sticky, lukewarm wax which was very different from anything I have ever had because it was not HOT. I had to look down a couple of times, because I didn't believe this room temp wax was getting everything in one swipe. It was doing just that. Plus, the wax is put on so thick, that it is actually the wax that they're peeling off of you, not a separate cloth strip on top that they have to reapply and grab again. Sunny also quickly tweezed any excess without making me feel uncomfortable. Needless to say I was elated when she was done, it was absolutely the most pleasant waxing experience I have ever had. I've been coming here for 4 years (if not 5) there is nowhere else I would go to get my privates waxed! Their wax is a special formula and it hurts much less than the regular wax and strips. I was terrified at first as i know how painful it is, but the waxer there, her name is Amy, she was so good and fast that i didn't feel the pain as much as i was expecting. I used to come here regularly for a Brazilian. If you can get Jamie, then do so because she is awesome, patient and gentle. She really makes you feel comfortable. I walked in on a random day for a Brazilian which I normally don't do and boy did I regret it! My usual Jamie was not in that day and that left Aime (or it might be Amy) to wax me. She was ridiculously rough and kept waxing the same spot over and over, burning and irritating my skin. When I took a look in the mirror, there was still a huge patch of hair. HOW?? After all of that waxing. I was in too much pain so I just told her to move on. When she was done, she handed me sanitary wipes and stepped out. While I was cleaning myself up, I noticed blood all over the sanitary wipe. She didn't even have the decency to let me know that I was bleeding. Brazilians have never caused me to bleed. After all of that, she asked for a tip. LOL! No thank you. Go next door to the European wax center. read more
