Stuff just haphazardly thrown into huge open containers.

I had never hired movers, but I'm disabled and can't walk much nor lift heavy boxes. My realtor recommended Unicorn Moving. Alan came and did my estimate 20 days before my move. I explained that I would have a lot of stuff packed before my move, so I questioned the $20,000 estimate. Alan said he overestimated because he didn't know how much I would box up, but I would only be charged for work done, which he thought would be less than $15,000. Since the estimate said $10,000-$15,000, I booked it. Steven was the lead mover of 8 movers and 4 trucks. Steven told me that a cash tip was expected, so I should go to a bank. I did a Google search that said $50 per mover was a generous tip. I was not able to supervise all 8 movers, but I gave directions about what I wanted. I noticed one of the movers packing a very big box, and I asked if the box would be heavy, because I can't lift much. He told me he was only putting light things in the big boxes. I asked another mover if they were labeling the boxes, and he said they were labeling boxes by room. Before leaving, Steven asked if I got the tip money. He was confused when I gave him $400, because he had wanted $4,000, $500 for each mover. I told him that was a lot. Steven said he could get the bill down to $9,000, so with the $4,000 tip, my total cost would be $13,000. I said I would need to get the cash from the bank in the morning. After Steven left, I texted him to see if he had accidentally taken my dolly. He said he would return it. I then texted him that we were cleaning up a lot of trash on the lawn- pizza crusts, empty bottles, empty tape rolls. My neighbors even complained that trash was left on their lawns, and several movers had been lying down on their lawn. (I suspect, so I could not see them.) I found it odd that the movers left so much trash when I had a dumpster. Steven apologized and said he would deduct some from the bill. I then went to shower and found out that my toiletries and towels had been packed up, so I couldn't brush my teeth, etc. Luckily, I had extra towels and could shower. In the morning, Steven said the total cost for the move would be $9,363.28. I said I was going to hold onto the $4,000 cash tip until I got the final total, because I didn't want them to change the total after they got their cash. I was moving stuff to my storage place and to my house in Houston. When I got to the house, Ryan came to get the keys for my storage units. I directed him to stack all my tubs together and to stack the boxes by room, and to save a walkway in the middle for easy access. Steven then arrived and started unloading at the house. Ryan came back after they had finished unloading at storage, and the other 6 movers helped Steven. When they were done, Steven told me that the movers were so mad from unloading at storage that they didn't want a cash tip anymore and wanted their hourly rate. I asked why the guys were upset, since the 10' x 30' units were roomy and on the first floor. Steven said the guys were upset that they had to unload really heavy boxes (which they packed) without a dolly and it was hard to move with 6 movers unloading. I asked why they didn't have any dollies, and Steven said the dollies were on his truck. I asked why they didn't come get them, since the storage place was less than a mile from the house. Steven said he didn't know, but my new total was almost $18,000. I was very upset, and Steven said he still wanted to work with me, and he could lower the bill to $14,300 if I gave them a $1,700 cash tip. I gave the $1,700 to Steven which he distributed to the movers, and they left without showing me what they had done. At my house, boxes had been thrown into the shed with a pile of unboxed clothes on top. At storage, the first unit was crowded, the light switch was blocked, and there was no walkway. My second unit also had the light switch blocked, but there was a walkway. None of the boxes were labeled. And there were several huge open boxes where stuff had been thrown in. Later, I saw that I was billed for $16,972.67, and not $14,300.

Jesse and Eddie did a fantastic job. I would use them again without reservation. Careful and fast!

Just wanted to update review after business owner replied. They definitely did not take care of the issue. We never heard back regarding the broken items. I just think that if nothing else, breaking items constitutes some type of discount.

I had similar problems with their web form on my laptop. I finally had to call and talk to someone on the phone. But they never did get back to me with a detailed estimate that I could rely on. I gave up on them.Seem to be mainly a local mover anyway

There has been a known rodent problem since September that management has failed to properly address or communicate to tenants. Several of my belongings were damaged, and others exposed to mice excrement as pictured. The only response from management has been to place glue traps, which do nothing to resolve the larger issue. When I requested to move units because of the infestation, I was initially offered a new one at a higher rate, which I found shocking and poor customer service, and then moved to another unit on the same floor--only to find that one quickly infested as well. Despite acknowledging the rodent issue, management offered no meaningful assistance or compensation beyond insurance that didn't cover the extent of the damage. This experience was extremely disappointing. Avoid storing your items here, and if you are currently stored on the 3rd floor, I would strongly suggest checking your items for signs of rodents.

This storage facility appears to be fairly well-kept. It's very clean, has cameras everywhere, and…read moreaccess codes are required to get into the storage area, to access upper storage levels. Construction of the facility makes perfect sense. The main office is located on the first floor, next to three large garage doors. You can back vehicles into the garage bay to unload, out of any inclement weather. Each bay door can be individually opened via keypad access code. There are also two sliding doors--one inside the garage bay, and the other on the opposite side of the building. Both require an access code. Near each entrance is an elevator. Individual floors, other than the first, are restricted by access code. There are also a few carts available for customer use. There appear to be at least 4 storage floors. Customer access is from 6am to 9pm. The managing staff are onsite. The storage units and each floor appear to be quite pristine. Climate control is set to keep the storage facility between roughly 65F and 78F. For newer rented units, they are transitioning to cylinder lock and key; no more lock combinations to remember or pad locks. The facility requires you to insure the belongings that you wish to store. They will automatically enroll you in an insurance policy at $12 a month for $2000 coverage. However, if you have your own insurance (e.g. renters) that covers property in storage, you can provide them a declarations page, and they will accept that. Other than that, there are one time fees for a lock (if you don't have a cylinder lock of your own) and an administrative setup fee. Rent is prorated for the move-in month, and then turns into month-to-month. So that means if you have to move out, move out by the last day of the month, otherwise you'll be charged for another month if you still occupy the unit on the 1st of the next month. Finally, there appears to be at least 4 pricing tiers for identical units, based on location in the storage facility. So you may wish to check out multiple units and their locations within the facility that strikes a balance between desired size, location, and price. Overall: well-designed, secure, and well-maintained.

I think it's really odd there was no sign of break other than them removing my lock nothing was broken on the door. But I was late with my payment so they broke my lock off and placed their own lock, then when I paid up they left an extra lock in the unit. It appeared they threw the replacement lock on the floor on top of all my things that had been thrown and scattered all over the floor from the break in. Honestly it feels like they were the ones that went in and took all my tools that I use to make a living. I think they were trying to recoup money since they thought I wasn't going to pay before they auctioned it off. It's really some bs and my instincts are strong about this one. I believe it was broken into last week. If yall had your unit on Victor street broken into on the third floor last week, I would definitely call to complain to the owner or the corporate office for public storage on Victor street in Austin tx. Especially if you were about to go into auction or were late on your payment. I think it's wrong that there are no cameras in the halls of this place and what's the point of have onsite property managers or anything if they aren't reporting the storages being broken into or calling the owners. Why do we have to go to our storage a month later to find everything missing. I really feel they either go in or have someone go in for them to steal. There was a suspicious dude outside when I went he was literally sitting in his truck just watching people drive in and out. He wasn't security or maintenance. I have half a mind to sit and watch for suspicious behavior because I paid to have peace of mind and my peace is gone along with 5,000.00 worth of my tools!!!!! I covered my tools in blankets that's why it feels it was an inside job. The main items missing were my tools mechanic tools and a back pack containing all my medical records and birth certificates of my children's. I have OCD and my storage was neatly organized so I know exactly what was taken. I read some where that public storage takes your legal docs or medical paperwork out of the storage before it goes to auction. I'm pretty sure it was an employee went took my valuable things along with the back pack so they could pass it off as normal procedure. They didn't count on me paying my bill before the cutt off date.

It's a larger facility. Exits are marked, but I'd also like signage pointing to the front entry, differentiated from side exits that open to the outside.
