Considering I have unruly halfrican hair, it's always been quite difficult for me to find a good hairstylist who doesn't either try to talk me into an expensive weave, or absolutely annihilate my hair with poor relaxing jobs. My husband has been going to Crystal exclusively for years, and Crystal recommended that I see Jennifer about taming my crazy mane. That speaks a lot of this place right there. She didn't just try to take me on for herself. She recommended the stylist she thought would best be able to deal with my hair. I've been going to Jennifer for about two years now and she's awesome. I used to just have her relax my hair, but after she recommended the movie Good Hair to me, I dropped the relaxer for good. Now she works with my natural hair, and I have NEVER gotten so many compliments as I have since she started working with it. She's also super sweet and flexible. My hair takes forever, so she usually ends up having to multi-task if she wasn't allotted enough time to deal with it. Still, I'm never left just sitting in the chair waiting for her. Maybe it's because she's a mom, but she can definitely focus on more than one thing at a time with no problem. read more

Came in today for a cut with SHELBY who is EXCELLENT. She asked me questions about what I wanted to do to my hair and made sure we were on the same page. I can tell she prides herself in making sure her clients are satisfied and leave with exactly what they want. My last cut from a different person/salon was way too choppy and she knew what to do to even it out (I have thick wavy hair). I felt like I was never rushed and Shelby took her time with my hair. Throughout the whole process, she's super easy to talk to, and has a good energy about her. She also has great general beauty and make-up tips! Jen is nothing short of amazing. She's taken my hair from black with red and Betty bangs, to a softer brown, back to black, and from that black to blonde. I have never left her chair unsatisfied. I can walk in with an idea, show her a picture and tell her to do her thing and she always finds a way to make our vision work for my face shape/skin tone. The salon itself also has artwork from local artists displayed for sale, and I have never had a negative experience with any staff member, stylist, or even client there. Came here to get some highlights. I got the 20% discount that was offered through Yelp. I called to set up my appointment and was set up with Heather (i think? it's kinda been awhile now, but I'm pretty sure that was her). The lady that answered the phone was really nice and helpful. Gave me a couple of options of times, I chose, and hung up. Me, being the indecisive girl I am, quickly changed my mind, and had to call back and change the time, but she was very nice and accommodating to my inability to make a decision. When I arrived for my appointment, I was quickly given an apron, seated, and offered a water bottle or coffee as well as a magazine. So far, so good. The overall experience was good. Heather made small chit chat here and there. My only slight complaint is that she kinda just left me in the dryer until it turned off. I had to get up from it to find her and let her know that it had already turned off. My highlights came out nicely. At first I felt like they were slightly too blonde, but I've gotten compliments all around. I might have just not been used to having anything but dark hair. With the discount it came out to $68. That's a pretty decent price for medium hair length highlights. The atmosphere of the salon is pretty chill. It was a warm day and they had their backdoors open. The backside seemed to lead to some kind of garden like area, and it let in a nice breeze. All in all a positive experience. However, without the discount I would think it is expensive, and based on that I don't know if I'll be back. Great for their customer service and work as long as you're willing to shell out the cash. read more

Denise is AWESOME! First time going here after researching Yelp reviews. I showed Denise pictures of several different hairstyles I liked and she managed to encompass all of them into one fantastic haircut. No need for a curling iron to create beachy waves - she layered my hair so it would fall perfectly with or without a blow dry. AND she added highlights of blonde and two shades of red to blend in with my natural but faded red hair to get back some vibrancy. Finally, I found someone who can give a great cut and color just the way I envisioned. Best of all, this salon is close to my house (and is in a great location) so no more driving time to get to that hair appointment. Jackpot on this one! read more

I have the best hair stylist back in Ontario, California where I used to live. Every since moving to the OC, I would still drive all the way back to her to get my hair cut. A few times in the past year I have 'cheated' on her and tried new places to be dissatisfied. Again recently I decided to look for new services as I was frustrated with my long hair and needed instant relief. I hoped to find a place to go to on the regular so I can quick driving to the Inland Empire. Well, I've tried a few places in the OC and I must say that Heather has been the best. I'm pretty picky with my hair but I trusted her and she really came through. I recommend her and I will go back. Got my hair cut by Renee today and she did an amazing job! I called this morning and was able to get an appointment for this afternoon. My hair cut was $60 but I got the 20% yelp discount, so it only ended up costing around $40. I was very happy with my cut and will gladly pay the $60 next time. I have short hair that has been through dozens of hair stylist and salons, but I think I finally met my match. I loved the atmosphere in this cozy little salon and Renee transformed my hair from shaggy, way-to-thick-awkwardness to a chic layered cut that frames my face. I went to Unity as a walk in and was told to come back in an hour, which was no problem seeing as how Unity is right in downtown Fullerton I just walked around the main shopping row and easily spent the hour shopping. Tina was the stylist that cut my hair and she did great. Not only did she give me the exact cut I was looking for but she also made my hair SOO SOFT!!! I don't know what she put in it but I couldn't stop running my hands through my hair. It's a great experience from the moment you book an appointment to the end of your hair session. I've been coming here for 6+ years, and it's always awesome. My stylist is Dell and she has seen me through my long, layered, japanese style cuts to my short, edgy, professional cuts...all of which have garnered praise and compliments from friends, family, and colleagues. I was having a crazy bad hair week and needed an update...soon! I was also ready to get a new stylist--after 10 years with another stylist, it was just time to move on to someone new. I called Unity Salon after reading Yelp reviews and was able to book an appointment with Heather the next day. Another stylist greeted me at the door and introduced me to Heather. I felt immediately comfortable and relaxed once inside; I hate going to a new salon and feeling like people there are snooty. I didn't get that feeling at all here. Heather listened very carefully to what I wanted in a hairstyle, and she asked the right questions to get a feel for what I needed. She was very easy to talk to, but also just let me sit and relax without saying much at all. For me, that can be one of the more stressful elements of changing stylists. I tend to be most loyal to the ones with whom I can have an easy relaxed conversation. If I feel like the conversation is work or strained...I'm not likely to return. Heather was great! I was very pleased with the color and cut she gave me, as well as the way she styled it. It's been two weeks since I had my hair done, and I'm still thrilled. I will definitely be a returning client. I drove from L.A. to go to this salon because I haven't been able to find anyone here that I've liked. Alison was my stylist and she is the first person to give me a truly satisfying cut since moving to southern California. I'm trying to grow my hair out from pixie short so good haircuts are crucial to get through this difficult mullet stage. Since my appointment- and despite lacking any kind of hairstyling skills myself -I've received a ton of complements on my hair including one from a stranger! I'm no good at communicating what I want done with my hair so usually I leave it up to the stylist to do what they think is best and Alison was excellent at creating a style that is easy to manage, easy to grow out and hard for me to mess up! She understood exactly what my needs are with regards to my daily routine and how often I'm willing/able to get my hair cut. I just moved to the area and have been looking for a new salon to get my hair done. I love my old stylist but unfortunately she is too far now. After reading the reviews for Unity, I made an appointment and they scheduled me with BreAnna which I thought would be great based on the rave reviews she has received. Unfortunately, she didn't compare to her reviews. I have very straight, long hair. It requires layers to get volume, but due to the straightness, the layers have to be blended in extremely well. I guess BreAnna couldn't see the layers in my hair, so she asked me if it was ok to cut shorter layers. I told her it was ok because I thought she just wanted to bring them up a little. Instead, my hair is now totally choppy. There is one short layer about chin length around my whole head (think bowl cut) and then the rest of my hair is a second layer much longer underneath. My hair looks horrible... like how stylist used to cut it back in the day who didn't know how to layer straight hair. The worst part is that my hair grows slow, so I'm stuck with this for awhile :-( To top it off, BreAnna wasn't the usual happy stylist that I'm used to and she barely even talked to me. Guess I'll have to continue my quest for an awesome hair salon in Fullerton. read more

Very nice salon, unfortunately, I just didn't get what I asked for and paid for. To start, my stylist was running late, so I waited a little over 10 minutes for her. Not necessarily a big deal, but a little annoying as I had never been there before and I know we needed time for a color consultation. As for color, I show her a picture of Blake Lively. I didn't ask to be super blonde, but I wanted the blonde I already had to appear brighter, with more highlights around my face. She says no problem, determines we should put lowlights in to make the blonde I have look more blonde, and I stupidly agreed to the lowlights. Two hours later, I am done, but not with the hair I had in mind. I feel like she put more lowlights than highlights in my hair, and the overall effect looks grey. I had two people ask me if I darkened my hair? Also, I have a distinct line of brown around my face, not the blonde I wanted, specifically near my face. One major pro, my stylist was a wizard with the blowdryer and roundbrush. Great stylist, not so good with blonde highlights. Now I have to pay more money at a different salon just so I can get back the blonde hair I had BEFORE I went in to this place. So, maybe go here for a blowout, but say no to the blonde highlights. I took Yelpers advice and tried BreAnna last June. Do yourself a favor... just call her. I did ombre which is not easy to pull off going from all blonde. It turned out amazing. She is pricey so I left and went to another girl down the street.... oops! Had to go back to BreAnna and have her fix it. I have never had such a perfect, technical short hair cut. It's perfect. As far as a haircut goes, I am eternally hopeful for long flowing locks one day, down to my knees and ALISON at Unity caters to my requests. She LISTENS (a rarity with some stylists) but also makes suggestions to best suit my face and personal style. She also doesn't chop off all of my hair when I'm only looking for a trim, just enough for healthy ends but also to maintain my length. My hair is straight and fine but she manages to always make it super healthy and voluminous with her magic touch. Speaking of magic touch, Alison will give you a to-die-for scalp massage when you get shampooed. Ohhh it's so good. Not only does Alison provide unbeatable service, but she has always been consistently on time, caring, and accommodating. She is also one of the funniest and easiest people to carry on a conversation with. Go see her today!!! *** I wanted to do an update since I went back to Unity recently to see Alison because I wanted some color to brighten my hair up, but didn't want to suffer any damage. Alison gave me a color glaze that made my hair shiny and even more manageable. She gave me some scientific low-down on how this color works to make my hair so silky but of course, I don't remember all of that! I just know it worked!
