Carne asada with over easy eggs

Five stars all around. The food was fresh and flavorful. If you haven't been to Universal Bakery, it's a must. *Local Hidden Gem*

AMAZING SALVADORIAN BREAKFAST!!! My plate was super delicious. Service was fast even if it was during the busier times. Definitely recommend if you're craving a Latino breakfast.

Pan con todo y adobado

The pan con todo y adobado is a fantastic breakfast sandwich. Black beans, eggs, cheese, sour cream and grilled meat in a French roll. Easiest to order in Spanish. They were busy but food is prepared quickly. We did takeout but there are tables available for those dining in.

Craving a breakfast sandwich and was feeling like trying something new. Universal Bakery hit the spot! I was welcomed with wonderful service and recommendations since I probably looked a little lost. I had the Pan Con Todo Y Platano. The soft roll had beans, eggs, cheese, and fried plantains. Now, I love fries plantains, but I hadn't had them in a sandwich. It was delicious! Since I love spicy food, I was offered their habanero sauce, and it was so good. I'm not dying after it, but I'm pretty sure it's because the sweetness of the plantains helped. Might die if I didn't get plantains. But so worth it!

Desayuno TĆpico

Loved Universal Bakery! I've missed having the breakfast from Guatemala and Universal is such a fantastic breakfast place. I got a Desayuno TĆpico which includes eggs, cheese, cream and beans. But if I'm honest what keeps me coming back is their French roll. I love Guatemalan bread because it does tend to be fluffier and more flavorful than other Latin breads. It was soft and pillowy on the outside and had a good bite on the crust. Perfect for stuffing with eggs or just dipping into the beans.

Pan con Todo y Platano

Ordered Pan con Todo y Platano, and a couple of sweets; two pastries and small quesadilla (not what you think it is) Sandwich was not at all what I expected. The roll is soft and surprisingly could stand up to the fillings. The sweetness of the platanos complemented the rest of the ingredients. Add their sauce for a little spice and it's perfect. I can't wait to try the other Pan con Todo! Quesadilla was also muy delisioso! It's like a pound cake with cheese and a texture that reminds me of kouign aman. Crusty outer with soft delicate center. I haven't tried the other two pastries I bought so can't report on it but definitely try the sandwich and quesadilla! To top it off customer service was excellent. Super friendly and helpful.

Neighborhood gem! The breakfast sandwiches are excellent. There are several different variations to try. They all come on pillowy-soft bolillo rolls that are baked continuously throughout the day. I'm never here late enough to have lunch, but the options look tempting. Everything is consistently fresh. The selections in the pastry display case seem to change periodically. If you see the pineapple empanadas, you better grab a few. Flaky crust, filling isn't too sweet, just right. Brush up on your Spanish. I've only once been helped by someone who spoke English. It's not a problem for me, but others may find some difficulty. Well worth the extra effort on your part!

Sometimes you just need a torta that hits and this place makes them with runny beans, soft squishy bread, soft eggs, cheese and proteins that are made fresh. While not exactly a deal price wise, everything you get here is fresh and assembled well with prompt service. They've got a solid selection of tortas to choose from plus some platters that look really good. I got a carne asada torta and while it presented big it wasn't super heavy.

Pan con Todo

Demasiado frƭo por las maƱanas, no se siente acogedor sentarse a desayunar ahƭ. La comida estƔ bien.

Service was great! Food was good, a little oily. I ordered a sort of taco and it had meat and lettuce in it. The sauce was a little spicy, but it was so good. To drink, I ordered a small champurrado. It didn't have a lot of flavor and there was chunks of maza in the drink. I would definitely come back! (: they have so many items on their menu I would love to try more.

Variety of sweet breads!

Hello Yelpers,…read more Wanted to share with everyone a phenomenal Empanada Joint located on Polk Street I the city. Wife and I had the unfortunate experience of having to get our passports expedited and had to return to the Federal Building on Turk. To make the best of a bad situation we ducked into a small establishment called Cafe Buenos Aires. Let me begin with saying this little gem of an empanada establishment has me yearning to return to San Francisco. I am not a city boy by any means and avoid the city like a bad rash. Wife and I ordered 4 empanada's and a special protein and collagen latte. Everything has me saying Obrigado! (Thank you). We had the Carne Picada (Choped Sirloin) was beyond good. I have had empanadas all my life and can simply say this one has blown my mind. Spice and seasoned to perfection with potatoes and quality chopped top sirloin cuts. Chicken (Pollo) same thing with quality ingredients. Beef (Ground Beef) also excellent not my first choice but why not. I'm already here. Service was friendly and the lady working today was awesome. Not much seating inside more of a to go spot but fit the bill. Finally the Protein Cafe Latte with collagen had the wife raving about how good it was. Trust me when she says we may have to go back is a rarity for her especially in SF. Can't wait to swing by when in the area. Don't miss this place it's worth a visit and revisit in my opinion.

The issue is that I was definitely pushing it on time if I planned on making my flight. As I was driving here, I had the thought that if there was an annoying parking situation or a line, I would just have to pivot and forego patronizing. But as it turns out, there was one spot available right next to the front door and no one inside. But then when I requested a nitro, the owner (I assume?) was extremely apologetic that their coffee machine broke. I asked for a few alternate types of coffee, but it turned out said machine controlled it all. So we shifted to the pastries. I read on the website that they had something with guava, so I asked for two of those: one for me, one for the wife. He even offered to heat mine up, which I will say yes to 100% of the time. I then jumped back in the car and was back into "don't' miss your flight mode." Of course, when you're in a hurry, you manage to hit every red light along the way, so I was doing a lot of yelling at electricity and God. But then I figured I might as well take the time to try the pastry that I'd originally planned on eating on the plane. As it turns out, it brought me into a nearly immersive experience of zen. The only bad thing is that I devoured it within seconds and then it was merely a thing of the past. My wife is fortunate that I have the amount of integrity that I do because I am sitting on the plane as I write this and I could easily inhale that 2nd pastry with her being none the wiser. If you're reading this, wife, remember that you hit the spousal lottery.

The coffee is rich and nutty, and it pairs well with all of their milk options (they have oat and almond for my fellow lactose intolerant folks). Depending on when you come by, sometimes you can catch the staff working on the next batch, which is always fun to watch. The team is friendly, and the space is quite large. It's usually pretty quiet -- even though they have a decent flow of foot traffic, most folks don't stop for long. When someone finally showed up behind the counter, it was a chef who didn't seem to know much about the POS system. Seems they are severely understaffed. I ordered an empanada which he said would take 15 minutes to get ready, sure no problem. I ask to pay with Blackbird as I've already scanned the puck and checked in during the five-minute waiting period. He then says I can't pay for the $7+tax empanada with Blackbird for some reason. Okay...? All of a sudden, he doubles the total that I "owe" (for food that I have not received and was told would be ready in 15 minutes). I say I only came here because I could pay with Blackbird, and I don't have another form of payment. He says sure, you want a coffee instead, pointing to a coffee station with no barista. Wtf is going on at this place? I left, still with an empty stomach and a puzzled mind about how this place is still in business.
