HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. Literally traumatic experience. Me and my 3 sisters recently went to try and stay here because one of my sisters was graduating from Chico state. We got there at like 11:30pm since we had about a 6 hour drive. First of all, they had no more parking available and we had to park on the side of the pool. We got to our room and right away when we opened the door, there was a STRONG smell of locked in air with humidity and cigarette smell. The bed was full of little black hair, the floors and walls were disgustingly dirty, and there was a cockroach in the bath tub! We contacted Expedia about the room since the area felt unsafe to walk late at night to the lobby. The man later came to our door VERY aggressive towards me and sisters saying that the hair was normal, the cockroach was fly and started saying that nobody is perfect! While talking VERY aggressive. I didn't not feel safe so me and my sisters decided not to stay and went to go look somewhere else at 12 am. The man did not and does not want to give at least HALF the money back since we didn't stay the night or even an hour! Horrible experience. Would not recommend to ANYONE. read more

Be careful of this hotel... I did get this hotel at a good price, at first. By the time it was all done, I could have stayed at a nice hotel. They took my whole deposit because of a stain on the sheet. The sheets were dirty, because we were there 3 nights but nothing out of the ordinary. Not stained. (Mind you they don't offer housekeeping at all.) I called to try and talk to boss. They told me to call back in 30min. I did. They ignored all calls. I had to call from different number to get front desk to answer. And they still wouldn't let me talk to him, and told me to call in morning. I called in morning. Still nothing. I tried to do walk thru when I was leaving. The front desk lady told me, it's OK. We will put money back on card. ( later on I confronted her about it, and she said they don't do walk thru with guests.) I'm a housekeeper. And cleaned that room before leaving. I'm very upset and feel like I got scammed. Not only did they keep my deposit because the towels were dirty....mind you, they were dirty because the floor was dirty, but they also charged me an additional $100 because of scratches on a chair that were already there. Then I'm told if the house keeper confirms they were there then she will refund the additional $100 and part of my deposit. Part of it? Oh for the towels that got dirty from the dirty floors that probably haven't been properly mopped in months? I stayed for 3 days and not once did i ever see a housekeeper. The ice machine was broken with a note to go to the front office for ice, which i did, the girl gave me attitude when i asked and then handed me a bag with one big block of ice. Kudos to this property on their unwavering dedication and consistency in earning that single star in their rating. Their consistency in experience from the lumpy mattress (that seems to have been procured at the end of its life from a frat house), to the shampoo provided in an impossible to open non-perforated packet through the broken hair dryer leaves me in awe. It does have an excellent location near downtown and the campus which also seems to appeal to the local community based on the fact I had a homeless guy standing about twenty feet outside my room staring me down in the morning. read more

Rudest little brat of a girl working Saturday morning!!! Shows up at 8:15. The office says it opens at 7. I simply needed some coffee and a phone since they don't provide them in the room. She said they don't offer coffee and I could use the phone which she basically threw at me. When I asked her to please be respectful, she told me to leave. This is my first ever yelp review. I was Curious how bad this place would be... seeing the reviews, ands obvious that the owner of the place really does not care about who stays here. I have so many things i was shocked to see at this place-- disgustingly dirty floors, sheets covered in black hair, wifi didn't work, and so much more. Also seemed like we had a millipede infestation in our room... luckily i like bugs. The staff inside seemed very nice, and one of the worker seemed very concerned when we told him about how gross our room was. The cleaning ladies weren't as nice though. We asked them if they could clean our floors... since when we walked around, our feet turned dirty and brown from what looked like weeks of buildup. They, of course, didn't seem to make it to our room, as not only were our floors not cleaned, but nothing was refilled or tidied. I was also shocked by our sheets. They were paper thin, and had cigarette burns on them. My family truly felt disgusted by the housekeeping here... it was obvious our room wouldn't be cleaned until after our stay. What a dirty establishment... but at least it was close to town. If you want your family to spend time out doors... stay here, as they will beg to not go back to their room. read more

Horrendous spot unless you are a tweaker or transient person. Lots of shady characters staying here. I heard banging and power tools next door could have been kinky sex or something worse. Bed had leaves in it and burn marks on the sheets, one towel in a double bed room, extension cords and power strips everywhere. The trash can had Holiday Inn written on it, maybe we should have stayed there? I slept with my knife next to me and was out by 430AM . NOT for families or anyone. Can easily find nicer equally priced options. Sheets had burn holes my guess is they just make the beds between guests. Guarantee there is no "corona disinfectant " effort. Sketchy sketchy place. Water pressure excellent and if you put your phone music behind the faucet it amplifies greatly. I ended up here because nearly every other motel in town was full. On the good side, it was reasonably priced, the room was quiet, wifi was ok, everything worked, the bed was comfortable, air conditioning was cool and the water was hot. So it meets the basic requirements. Location is great, as there are many restaurants and a natural foods store nearby, plus downtown shopping. There is also a pool, which can be a big plus in Chico in the summer. Aaaand, it badly needs renovation, and the breakfast was really awful. No coffee, no creamer, no one to ask for help, plastic-wrapped pastries that would survive nuclear war, some packets of oatmeal. The decor is non-existent. About on the level of a Motel 6. read more

I wished I would have read the reviews before I booked this room. The bathroom was terrible, the tub had lots of mold, I told the office about it, they said they would have someone come clean it. Did not happen. We booked this through hotels.com. They should send someone out to see what they are offering as a booking. My fiancé and I were in town for a friends wedding, and it was also parents weekend for Chico State, so this was pretty much the only room left, and we mistakenly took it. The fridge in the room did not work, and had leftovers in it that were not ours. The AC smelled horribly of a mixture of urine and mildew when we turned it on, so we opted to just accept the 90 degree heat. The TV had no remote. The ceiling in our room was sagging over the bed, and had a piece of plywood screwed over another part to patch some other hole/leak. We were surprised to find out that we were actually sharing the room- with cockroaches. I have absolutely no idea how this hotel is legally allowed to be operating and charging people to stay in such terrible, disgusting conditions. You are better off sleeping in your car. read more

They tripled the usual price (I'm guessing); the room was small, the bathroom door stuck closed, the handle fell off the shower, the TV did not work, the staff was not present at check in time and when they finally showed up, they were slow and not helpful. I was over charged there laid staff all steal and reported that as well.. one of the maid staff had her son with her and caught him many many times looking in my room while I was dressing.. reported that and yet I was told to leave the propetty and best part the manager called the cops 4 times on me.. I'm a disabled adult treated like a common criminal.. but yet the room 2 doors down was the dealer had her door kicked in in room 124. husband and wife both taken to jail amd her two kids went to foster care.. the office new exactly what she was soong and said to me we thought it was just weed .. this hotel steals from there guests charges everyone. a 100 deposit which they wait a week and then steal it from your account with no approval.. THIS PLACE IS A DUMP! Never mind the Covid vaccine make sure you get your hepatitis shot before staying at this place. The only thing clean in my hotel room was my bed. Thankfully there weren't any bed bugs or semen stains that I could tell. The hotel has been going the extra mile to make their exterior look nice. Yet lacking good quality cleaning from the inside. I had one clean towel. The rest of my towels had pubes embedded within the cloth. I had only one lamp that worked. I had a non-smoking room which smelled like Marlboro cigarettes. My neighbors on both sides were noisy all night. Not to mention the rap music playing in the parking lot past midnight. I'm pretty sure one of my neighbors was selling drugs out of his hotel room. There were people coming and going on bicycles throughout the night knocking on their door. Also my remote on the TV didn't work. So I had to manually turn on the TV from the side of it. I paid $96 for the night. I got one clean towel and a possible clean bed. This place should change their name from the University Inn to the Urinal Inn. read more

I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews on this place. They have one of the best prices in town and a great location. The rooms might not be the cleanest in the world, but there's free Wi-Fi, a flat screen television, a refrigerator and microwave in every room. We stayed here for my brother's graduation weekend because every other hotel in Chico was fully booked. I can't help but laugh at how terrible this place was. The checkin process was painful. They only had one computer for checkin and the people behind the desk were obviously untrained (maybe have better trained staff working graduation weekend?). We finally got our key and WOW our room was horrendous. Stains everywhere, the sink would barely drain, uneven paint on the walls, weird smells. I saw some of the other rooms and I could see that some rooms had been updated and looked significantly better. After a long day of traveling we were too tired to drive to our originally planned destination and decided to stay in Chico instead. We started calling different hotels for availability at around 9:00pm. This hotel said they had a room available and the pictures on their website looked ok so we booked the room. After arriving the hotel looked more run down than the pictures had shown. We stayed the night and slept in the next morning since we were up most of the night due to loud noises and homeless people roaming the parking lot and going through the overflowing trash can outside of our room window. When we were getting our things packed up and ready to go check out at around 10:30am we saw a COCK ROACH going across the floor from the bathroom. We were absolutely disgusted! After seeing that we decided to check the bed for roaches and bed bugs, when we pulled the sheet up we found multiple MOLDY BLOOD STAINS! We finished packing all of our things and I went to the front desk to complain and ask for a refund since those are both health hazards. I showed the employee (I think his name was Sam?) the pictures and he showed the house keeper. Both of their faces looked horrified. He said that I need to call him tomorrow for a refund. So I called back today and Sam was not there to speak to, instead I spoke to Sakir Ali who identified himself as the manager. He said he would not issue a refund since we stayed the night, he said that I should have told them about it when we checked in. I explained that we did not discover the cock roach and moldy bed until the next morning 30 min before check out. I asked if he wanted me to send the pictures and he accused me of LYING!! He just kept saying "no that didn't happen, you're lying". After he was so disrespectful I asked to talk to the person above him or the owner of the establishment and he refused to give me any information. He ended up hanging up on me. I have worked in customer service my whole adult life and I have never heard of a manager handling a situation this way. Sakir is not capable of being a manger if he treats customers like this especially over something that is a real health hazard. It is not right that this establishment stands by putting their guests in rooms with roaches and mold and accuses them of lying about it! Nobody stays at the Vag because it's high end or you heard it was a hidden gem in the town of Chico. People stay there because it's downtown and because it's cheap. There was bugs that had fallen from the ceiling and into the toilet, and were still alive. Nice guy at the counter and good oatmeal in the morning, otherwise an average cheap motel. It's worth about what you pay. It's a rundown motel, with bathroom fixtures that could/should be replaced. I've been in worse. The front office doesn't open until 7am. So if you want coffee and oatmeal earlier, let the guy know the night before and be ready to bang on the window for a few minutes and repeatedly ring the doorbell before he rolls out of bed. I felt a little guilty doing that, but I was hungry and wanted coffee. Anyway, I'm not sure how he slept through the shouty crackhead across the street. Ultimately, if you don't care about where you stay or noisy people who might *live* in the room next door, it's not that bad. I didn't feel unsafe or see any hookers.
