Holyyyy this is my favorite OC hidden gem. Literally the best huge $7 drinks I've ever tried. It's located inside a Vietnamese fruit/snack store so it's kind of hidden, but definitely definitely recommend everyone check them out! I've tried a lot of the menu here, and I would say the mango yogurt passion, corn milk, and ube taro drinks are my favorites. But everything's so good it's hard to choose. If you're craving che, the che thai here is good too and comes with so many toppings. Wintermelon tea is great if you're not feeling something milky. The portions are HUGEEE! It's a fruit store, so all the fruit inside the drinks are super fresh! I don't know what kind of mango they use for the mango yogurt drink, but I seriously need to inquire about it because it's unlike any mango I've ever tasted before- SO sweet, tropical, perfectly ripe, almost doesn't even taste like a mango because of how fragrant it is. Came during the $2 promo and it was crazyyyy! Luckily I wasn't too far back in the line (but some girl let 4 of her friends cut in front of me ) and it moved quick! The manager/owner was also very kind and passed out complimentary chips to everyone waiting in line! The shop, overall, is small and can get a bit crowded. The most hectic part today was the distribution of drink orders. As the line moved, we were able to order through the cashier or on a tablet. When it was my turn, I was ushered towards the tablet, ordered, and had the receipt texted to me. Unfortunately, I missed what order number I was on the tablet, and the number didnt show on the texted receipt! They were constantly calling out numbers bc they had to scoop each drink order's toppings, and I had no idea what my order number was! Luckily, the staff members were kind and handled my order when I asked them about it. Something they may want to think about is adding the order number or customers name on the online receipt! It would also be a good idea to add the topping options on the online promos so drinks can be put together quickly rather than waiting to be scooped. I'm not sure why this is a separate Yelp page, but I guess this may be for the drink order part in the back of the cafe versus the rest of the business which operates like a snack shop. There was a good amount of parking when we went, but I know that it can get quite fisted and busy, especially during peak hours. I went here 30 minutes before closing and there was a decent line of people in front and behind me to get some sweet dessert drinks. It's around $1+ for some of their jellies and toppings, so the best bet really is to get the build your own 6 topping drinks since it's included in the order and if you do the math, it comes out to less than paying an extra $6 on top of the base cost of the drink. I got their 6 topping corn milk as it's a more unique drink and I do love myself some corn. They sell this bottled in the little fridge section for like $7. Drink is quite sizeable and they WILL go over the top of the cup into the bubble lid if the toppings offset the level of liquid, so be careful not to spill! For toppings, I got the matcha and taro panna cotta, cheese pudding, Thai koi, oolong jasmine boba, and corn jelly. Just know that the syrups that are scooped in and absorbed from the toppings are going to eventually seep into your drink too, so it can start out sweet and get even sweeter. The drink is definitely more of a dessert reminiscent of Vietnamese dessert soup che, just an FYI. I think my only qualm and they unfortunately hit this pet peeve is when businesses give preferential treatment to family/friends at the inconvenience of actual paying customers. There was an entire family ahead of me, several people behind me but this dude (not with the family mind you), walked up to the toppings bar and asked one of the workers for a drink and SUPER FILLED it to the brim with honestly way more than 6 toppings. In Vietnamese (excuse my poor skills), he was calling the worker "teacher", flirting with him with terms of endearment, calling him cute and precious, laughing all the way and the worker just had the most neutral, unemotional face so honestly I can't tell if he was getting heckled and bullied by an unfortunate acquaintance or if it was normal. Regardless, it was massively annoying. If it wasn't someone I was close to do doing that to me while I'm at work, you bet I'm gonna go tell them to wait in line. Not bad overall but eugh. read more

This convenience store has basically anything you could want to snack on. There are sections for pre-packaged Vietnamese snacks, but also pre-cut fruit and the accompanying chili salt. In the back, you can order bubble tea with just about any topping you can think of. There were a few people working just on the teas, so they moved fast. My highlight, though, was the corn milk, which is exactly what it sounds like. While it's pretty decadent (it contains heavy cream), the corn flavor is strong and it's not terribly sweet. What helps is using it as an addition to a coffee or matcha, or just watering it down with some ice. read more

I discovered this place from an Instagram Ad a couple years ago, followed them, & finally got to try them after so many years. It's so hard to find a cafe that has all these special & unique flavors where I live, so it was so fun picking what to order. We actually got 4 drinks to try even though it was just me & my sister. The store is located in a strip mall/plaza so parking can be a little full. It was smaller than I expected but they made such efficient use of their space as their market & cafe are located in the same space. Market had a lot of flavored rice paper & tamarind. It was fun to look through while waiting for our drinks. Service was very polite & efficient. Someone was cutting & prepping fresh fruit like jackfruit & green mangos for sale. Everything was so lively. A few doors down they have another store that has other items like fresh & dried fruit. Drinks: We got the soursop jasmine, mango passion fruit yogurt, mangosteen summer, & guava oolong. Yogurt was my favorite. It was flavor packed (yoplait type yogurt flavor & texture) & even if the ice melts, it would still be full of flavor. I was surprised to find that the passion fruit flavor was from popping boba. The teas were good. We took them all for family to try & the popular pick was the guava. Soursop being the least favorite as the jasmine/bitterness was a bit overpowering. I thought I'd try the toppings but actually decided not to add any (kinda overwhelmed by all the choices) but even without any toppings, the drinks were sufficient & fulfilling enough. So I see mixed reviews here for this Unu Cafe. I haven't tried anything else here other than the che Thai dessert. I have had it at many other dessert places in the area and I vote this to be the best! After getting the avocado coconut pudding dessert next door, per my sister's suggestion, we walked over here to get other types of dessert. What she was looking for was discontinued, according to the person that served us. So we went with the Thai dessert with extra durian and that was amazing! They did such a good job with that dessert and was generous with all the jello and fruit inside the cup. The dessert is $7 (twice as much as another popular dessert place that is about a block away, but the portion here is twice as big). And for $1 extra, you'll get one scoop of durian (my favorite!). One issue though, the lid was super tough to open. I couldn't open it and had to take a knife to cut across the top! Got to find out next time I'm there what's the trick to get it to open. :) Now I understand why this place is always crowded. A Vietnamese snack shop that now serves drinks in a terrible parking lot. No seating indoor nor outdoor so it's exclusively a to-go shop. While the line was long on a Sunday afternoon, the staff worked quickly. The mini coolers only allowed milk teas, no substitutions and 6 jellies. Osmanthus Oolong Milk Tea: a little too sweet but a decent tea flavor. Not really osmanthus but at least it was authentic tea. Jelly: lots of cute designs but the flavors were not very strong. Mostly everything tasted like coconut, pandan, or regular sugar jello. The banana jello and cheese jello did taste accurate though. Quinn's Bakery in Garden Grove makes tastier jellies and is a similar concept with indoor seating. What a fun experience! While having some of the staple Vietnamese snacks and regular boba type drinks, I went to check out their build a bucket. Here's how it goes: 1. Pick a bucket (I picked a mini cooler looking bucket) 2. Pick your drink (I picked milk tea) 3. For about $16, you get the bucket, drink and pick 8 toppings (like boba, jelly and they have some really special jellos that sometimes count as 2 toppings) Drink and eat! Service was great! It's a small shop in a pretty hustling shopping center. The reason for the 4 stars was Inreally wanted to experience eating/dunking there, but they didn't have seats and the buckets come with the drink in them, but the toppings on a separate container (which I did like), and swished around. We got milk tea all over ourselves a bit. It was fine, but I hope they can expand one day and have seats for people to sit and enjoy! Heard about this place after my friend send me an IG post about the bucket promo. I wasn't brave enough to try that for my 1st time. So I just decided to just go with the classic black milk tea with boba. I thought the drink was actually very good overall. The boba was just ok. Obviously I will plan to come back and try some of their other toppings. The store itself is pretty but they also sell some other desserts as well inside. Service was pretty quick. I also notice there was a Self Service kiosk inside for those who want to skip the line. Came here after the hubby saw a few TikToks. Didn't really know what to expect except a ton of toppings. After fighting the crazy Bolsa Ave. traffic and the lack of parking, we arrived at UNU. Scoped out the toppings before ordering and was overwhelmed with sheer number of options. Honestly, I can't even remember everything I got but I know for sure I tried the Doraemon, cheddar, taro panna cotta, and a couple of the cream cheese filled ones. For beverage I chose pandan. The ordering process wasn't exactly the best. There's a lot going on here and I don't feel like there was a clear understanding of how it all worked and the youth working the register clearly wasn't feeling it that day so I didn't bother to ask. Overall, I feel like you're just here for the novelty. The toppings were fun but they were a bit of a pain to dig out and eat. Also, the flavors were fine but nothing compelling. I really couldn't even tell what some of them were and had to refer back to the photo I took of the topping menu to identify what flavor I was supposed to be eating. I saw that you could buy the jellies separately and I think if I were to come back it do that and get a drink by itself. Again, a little explanation from staff would've been helpful or better signage. Small store with lots of drink options and Vietnamese fruits and snacks! Tried their persimmon matcha and loved it! The persimmon flavor is strong and they do include persimmon chunks in there. It definitely is a thicker matcha which I like. However, towards the end when most of the persimmon pieces were all gone, it did lose that persimmon-y flavor. Decided to try this place because my mom saw this on instagram with their cooler gimmick. It's very cute and has 1L of tea and you can select up to 8 toppings. Not everything was labeled so we had a hard time choosing and it was hard to hear the employees over the glass and loudness of the people waiting in line. The service was quick and the employees were kind. It's a smaller shop than expected but it had lots of topping options to choose from. It's definitely a fun place to go with friends and family to share a drink or two. As fun as the drink was to choose and put together, unfortunately it just wasn't my favorite. I felt like everything was just not sweet enough and very light in flavor. The Thai tea could have used more condensed milk and had a bit of a powdered taste but I added some more sweetener which helped for me. Some of the toppings were not very impactful in flavor so I could barely tell what they were. My favorite was the dragon fruit and lychee jelly. Most of the toppings are good and seem to use a coconut base. They taste similar, but the different textures keep things interesting. Have been a long term fan of Unu cafe since they first Open. They are probably the first Boba shop in OC that offer 6 toppings options- price is still $7! The first two pictures were old, I didnt have a chance to take pictures of their current topping options because it gets so busy now. I love coming here for the fun, shaped jellies. I personally get the jellies on the side so I can give my mom the milk tea and I eat it The staff are well versed in both Vietnamese and English, so don't get discouraged. I see that a lot of non Vietnamese complain about the jellies and how "it isn't sweet enough". Let me start off my saying that Vietnamese jello are typically not that sweet and it's usually made from agar, so the texture isn't like the American jello you get. The agar flower is the same as they put on Vietnamese jello cakes, so it won't be "bouncy" like you're used to. Now that is aside, I enjoy the difference shapes they offer. One of my favorites used to be the bunny before the chocolate filling was replaced by cream cheese. I now enjoy the corn, koi fish, paw, baby sharks, and colorful eggs. The interior kinda gives that "Vietnam" feel. If you've been in a family store Vietnam, you can see what I mean. The snacks are also familiar if you've gotten them in Vietnam. read more

I was in OC the other day, and my friend was craving boba and che, so they put me onto Unu Cafe. When we got there, it was packed--waited about 30 minutes for my order (also, parking in this plaza is rough). I went with the Milk Tea Bucket since it sounded fun--you get to pick 7 toppings, and they package everything separately, which is a nice touch. I got black milk tea, less sweet, and it was decent, but honestly, most of the toppings kinda tasted the same--some were jelly-like, some had cheese, pretty interesting. Also tried the Che Thai with durian, and that was solid! They don't skimp--the durian chunk was huge. I got the jasmine milk tea with 6 toppings of course, which was super fun to eat! Overall pretty good! I was disappointed when some of the toppings had no flavor and only looked cute. Example- the coy fish topping was mediocre. The matcha panna cotta topping was delicious especially if you like custard. The matcha flavor is really light. I would get the matcha panna cotta topping again in a heart beat. The drinks- perfect in taste. This is a fast paced grab and go situation, so I don't have much to say about the service or ambiance. It is a clean establishment and small in size. I was disappointed because they ran out of the igloo type of coolers for the drinks but I hope they have them again soon. I also wanted to at least get the bucket sized drink, especially since the toppings took up so much space in my regular cup, but I guess there was some misunderstanding and she charged me for the regular cup size. My friend told me about this spot. Inside they sold a lot of Vietnamese snacks and desserts. My friend and I came for the drinks. You can add 7 toppings to your drink, however, we felt this was excessive. I wish there was a "pick two topping" option. But when I asked they said it's $1 a topping (if I remembered correctly) so the "pick 7" was a better deal (but we didn't do it). I went for the "boba and cheese foam" for additional 1.50$. The topping options looked cute. They consisted of different flavor, color, and design of jellies and puddings. But again, I felt picking 7 was way too much so I passed. As for my boba and cheese foam tea.. I was disappointed in the boba. The size of the boba was not "suckable" through the straw! And I tried multiple times. The boba would get stuck. I even brought it home and thought maybe it was just that one boba that got clumped big. But nope multiple times the boba did not go through the boba straw. I then had to scoop out all the boba and realized the size they made was too big! I guess that boba was meant as a "che" style (Vietnamese dessert). Our family went inside and brought around $400 worth of Banh trang. Before we purchased the stuffs, we asked a front staff about a fruit on the counter but the girl answered was not very helpful. I also overheard another customer asked the same cashier for recommendation and she didn't help either. The service was not great from her but we were able to check out with a different cashier near the coffee counter. They do have another store in the same plaza.
