Short version: if you use this company ask for Cesar and his team I used this company on 2 move days. I had a lot of things staged from my house for the first day, including my piano. I talked to the mover who came and did a visual of the situation of the space that my piano would go into and the stairs it would need to go up. I said I was perfectly willing to hire a separate company that would specialize in moving pianos and he said that his team was experienced in moving pianos, so I paid the extra fee he quoted. On the first move day, which was the initial things that I didn't need to have at my house for the next two weeks, I was at the new house and saw his team bang my piano into a wall and then a banister. My $200 piano tuning which I expected I would need to do from my tuner tuned into a $500 repair. I also have paint damage and chips on my walls and banister rails from them, banging furniture going up the steps and putting things down near walls but hitting the walls. I knew it was going to be a difficult move because of 14 stair steps (I had them come and look first to be able to give me a quote and feel comfortable with the job) and they did replace a stair moulding that completely broke, but this was a a lot more damage than I would expect from a professional moving company. I'd like to think that it's only the first team and have talked to the company, because for the second move date that I had already placed a deposit, I worked with Cesar and he and his team were absolutely great. So if you use this company, I highly recommend that you request if Cesar is available. read more

I did a simple locate move 5 minutes away from new address. These guys had Tecate beer on the truck. The quoted me under 400 and the move ended up costing me over 1000 for a 2 bed. They damaged my bike wheel and broke my architectural lamp and acted like they had no idea how it happened. This company is a scam! They also go by Mao's moving and have 2 other DBAs, all moving companies. They took my money and gave me an estimate. Day of, when they loaded my belongings, they more than tripled the price, fabricated the square footage that was used. They then had me sign a *new* contract once all of my belongings were loaded into their truck. When I said that I didn't agree with the new contract the lead guy said, "well your stuff is already in the truck, you have to sign it." DO NOT TRUST THEM! DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING! They then held all of my belongings hostage for 3 months, trying to extort more money from me. They quit speaking to me. They refused to answer my calls. Their lawyer was complicit in their illegal activities. I only got my belongings back after I filed a complaint with the FMCSA; I sent them transcripts of all of my communications, especially their lawyer's. They stole some of my electronics. When they returned my belongings they broke fragile items and deliberately and forcefully dropped every box upside down, which caused items to spill out and break. They still owe me $2100 from the money that I paid them. read more

This company is a disaster and came to my place demanding $500+ in fees over what I signed in my contract. Apparently, as the contract moves along one subcontractor to another they just keep altering the agreement which is completely illegal. They take your stuff and keep it hostage until you pay up. Fraudulent business. Please do not do hire UpFront Movers for your next move. This was my 6th cross-country move so I'm savvy about the moving process. UpFront Movers, Don Nash (sales), and Carla Sarmiento (CEO) turned into one of the worst experiences of my life. The company picked up my belongings on 4/26 to move me from Silicon Valley to Minneapolis. I finally received my stuff 55 DAYS later on 6/20. I gave them my delivery address on 4/26, I have EVIDENCE in the paperwork I filled out. Don Nash from UpFront Movers claimed I never provided a delivery address. My continued calls were ignored, I left at least 50 messages at the office - they were NEVER returned. Don went so far as to block my number on his mobile. When I was finally able to connect with Don, he raised his voice as he told me they should have never taken my move and he could NOT guarantee that my things would ever be delivered. "I can't guarantee your delivery" were Don's precise words said on 6/11 to me. UpFront ended up subcontracting out to a 3rd party company and refused to provide me the contact info for the other company. They demanded I pay them $1,300 more than I was quoted. My stuff arrived and every single box (brand new upon pickup) has been SMASHED, my belongings are broken, dented, or damaged. My couch arrived stained and torn. Every table is damaged, pieces are missing. My beautiful keyboard looks like it was tossed around and dropped several times. The majority of my kitchenware is broken. Several boxes look as if they've been opened and searched. And there are boxes missing. I was told I'd receive 30$ off for every day my things weren't delivered after a 30 day period. This is in their contract but UpFront refuses to abide by the contractual terms. I've hired a great lawyer who I'll be working with to sue this company under violation of good faith, violation of contract, and gross negligence. UpFront Movers turned out to be the worst nightmare for anyone looking to relocate. Please select another moving company to work with. read more

Following up my previous review, UpFront Movers damaged/lost $3750 worth of expensive items during relocation from California to North Carolina. Now All the claim department compensating is $75. The claim department is not even considering the inventory of missed/damaged items I provided. Looks like it is a scam. If you don't take additional insurance, all of your expensive items will be missed during the transit. The two movers, Oscar and Calvin, arrived on time and were very quick and communicated every step of the process so that we would feel comfortable with how they would move our stuff. Our new apartment has a lot of stairs and they were efficient and professional with how they handled our furniture. They got it done very quickly and because we didn't have a lot to move to begin with they were able to get everything done within the 5 hour minimum required. WARNING: AVOID USING THEM. BROKE ITEMS, IGNORED CALLS TO REMEDIATE, MISLEADING PRICING. We completed our move three weeks ago with Cesar, Oscar and David. We chose them although they had some really bad reviews here because Cesar told us a good story about the issues being with "other crews". Here is why I am giving them this low rating: 1-Signing-up scam: Tried to convince us to take a flat rate package for $2800 when they knew the move could be done for around $2000. Luckily we declined. The indication was that their minimum for the job was 9hrs. $2800 would have equated 19 hours of moving although they said it would be done in a day. It made no sense, so we went with the hourly rate and glad we did. We would have overpaid by almost $1000. 2-Price: They were the most expensive, by almost 50% but provided a crew of 5 vs 4 with others. We were convinced and went for the higher rate assuming this would mean they would take better care of things by having more time and people to do the job. That was not true 3-Rushing the job: Halfway through the day, they decided they were done loading, with many smaller items and a few boxes still left in the house. Started rushing us and giving attitude that they were done loading. We reluctantly agreed, thinking they are trying to keep our cost down. We decided we would come back and pick the items with our car. It turned out they finished the job in 8 hours, under their minimum and could have easily picked up everything in still finished at the minimum total we paid. We had to make another 4 trips to the house to move the remaining items. 4-Damage: Several items were damaged 1) A 40" flat sreen TV screen broken 2) Wood dining table scratched 3) BBQ 4) Wall unit leg etc. They even tried to argue with me that the damage was older when the pieces of wood scratched off the table were still stuck on the table where the damage occurred proving it was fresh. 5-Do not honor damage coverage: I called them to follow-up about the damage and only claimed the TV. We could live with the other issues, stuff happens during a move. It took quite a few calls to connect and last call was that they were going to discuss internally what to do. Since then, no call from them, and they are not answering phone or texts anymore. They were very responsive when it was about getting the job, the responsiveness completely changed when it was about a claim. I'll also mention that we gifted them some furniture we did not need and gave a nice tip, so they had every reason to be courteous after the job. 2 weeks later, and no answer. We moved 2 years ago and our experience was much better. Too bad I lost the number of those prior movers. There are plenty of good choices out there, these are not one of them. Saved us so much time! They also packed the washer and dryer unit and, a few minutes later, realized we didn't want them so they took them off again. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! I was lucky that I used my intuition when it came to hiring this company. First, they sent quote as APEX CARRIER and they were way cheaper than all other movers I had looked up (almost $80 and hour cheaper), I was surprised and a little suspicious. So I googled this company and nothing was coming up under that name. Only thing I found was APEX MOVING COMPANY but from another state in the East Coast so I texted ERICK about this cause I could not find the company online for any reviews (which is a HUGE red flag), he claimed name is actually under "UP FRONT MOVERS". To me, dishonesty about your company name and your number coming up on my cell ID as "SCAM LIKELY" already has me on guard. Like the old saying goes "If it's too good to be true, it probably is"!! So naturally, not hiring them and going with a reputable company that may be more costly hourly but I know I won't have to worry about fake names or getting screwed!! read more

They took great care in handling my prized(and heavy) solid wood midcentury pieces, computer monitors, TVs, and mirrors with care along with my entire 2 bedroom apartment packed into boxes full of everything I own. It didn't matter if it was full of dishes or documents, everything was put safely in it's new home safely with cesar and Billy's teamwork. Seriously disappointed - arrived 45 minutes late, wasted a lot of time doing unnecessary cellophane wrapping, spent 5 hours loading a truck than took previous movers less than 3 hours to do, resulting in hitting rush hour traffic - so they were able to charge same number of hours for return, even though it was no longer rush hour and would take 1/3 the time. In the end, the truck they brought a truck that was slightly too small - despite seeing ahead of time what needed to be moved. Bottom line, they timed it so they could charge more for sitting in a truck for what is normally a 2 hour drive one-way, than they did for the actual moving of furniture. They exceeded the on-site estimate by 30%. The only reason they didn't get one star was they didn't damage anything, but would definitely never use them again or recommend them to anyone. read more

UPDATE: We received our settlement a few months after our furniture came. It didn't cover everything, but we were glad. Tips for anyone going with this company: PROS: - Nice packing crew. BUT, get enough people to come for a day and be in each room to observe the packing, and make sure they're packing & loading it safely. - Cost. We went with them b/c they were half the price of Atlas, United, Allied, etc. However, you get what you pay for. - They were able to deliver on the date we needed it delivered. CONS: - Some of the stuff was not packed well (see pics). LOTS of damage. - I was assured everybody w/ the company is vetted. The five workers who showed up told us they were hired the night before from a Craig's List ad. Two of them explained they had just been released from prison, so they were grateful to get the job. I completely understand that. And I'm all about giving people second chances. However, the company should stay true to the things that it tells its customers. - They were completely unexperienced. You can see from the images that they significantly damaged our wood floors. They also significantly damaged the wooden stairs on the outside of the house when bringing things inside. - The driver did not register anything that we complained about. He required--because he was on a schedule--for my husband to simply write down box numbers that he yelled out as people offloaded the truck. I kept saying over and over during a three hour period that we need to slow down, we couldn't keep track of which boxes were damaged, we couldn't keep track of damaged items etc. He then said he will take care of all of that afterwards. The driver paid the guys as soon as the truck was offloaded, and he took off within two minutes. He never came in and surveyed the damage. - At first, the company was responsive to our concerns. That day I heard from them, they said they'd call back with information, and several hours later they hadn't. So, I posted the pictures in a Google review. Lo and behold, I get a call from the company within an hour. It's from their sales guy. Not the woman that handles claims. He reminded me that I didn't sign up for the extra insurance (we have renters and homeowners insurance) and that it doesn't really look good for me if I'm not willing to give them a chance. He said (paraphrasing) that they're not going to be inclined to go beyond the $.60 per pound per damaged item if I'm not going to be inclined to give them a chance. So I removed the reviews. This brings me to something else. - If you can, pay for the extra insurance. We were lucky, our renters insurance covers items no matter where they are. And our homeowners covers the damage to our house. I called USAA and they absolutely said they would cover it. My husband and I didn't think it was right to have our insurance company pay out and then have to recoup the money from this company. We felt that UpFront should be directly reimbursing us, given the nature of these damages and the nature of how the situation happened. They did. We are grateful for that. But I will say, it took lots of time to manage the paperwork, submit the claims, paidpay to mail things etc. to the insurance company for our coverage. We're grateful that they reimbursed us beyond what we had covered by them. But we could've gotten more in a much quicker way through insurance company. - We notified them within a few days that we had two packages that weren't ours. I assume they know whose boxes are on the trucks? This was in early July. I don't understand why this company won't just give us the name of the person so we can contact & get them their boxes. BOTTOM LINE: Given other reviews, I don't doubt that there are people who will have good experiences with this company. However, it seems like most of the interstate or very long distance moves (ours was across the country) end up not turning out so great. Know what you're getting yourself into. I would NOT recommend them in any capacity. This was the worst experience I have ever had with an out of state move. This company contracts out. Dispatch and the driver were terrible at communication together and with me, absolutely awful, they could not find the correct address and were yelling at me for over 45 min at the gate, timing of the delivery was delayed by hours at my expense due to the previous delivery at my expense. They asked multiple times if could pay by check or Zelle instead of using a credit card. They charge an extra fee for using a credit card that was not disclosed to me until the payment was due. The initial quote seemed appropriate for a move that was 350 miles. However, come to find out they upsold me at the time of the move stating the initial quote was way under for the amount of stuff I had ( master bedroom closet, living room furniture, dining room table with 6 chairs, and kitchen stuff, and a few cases of wine- not a whole house and no bedroom furniture). They could not figure out how to put the dining room table back together (the legs are wobbly). There is blue stain on my table from the dye on the blanket they wrapped it in. I would save yourself the headache and stress and hire a legitimate company with more integrity in their initial quotes and customer service. read more

After 9 months back & for with their insurance lady, ended up they agreed paid $75 for our lost, that's totally a scam! She explained the reason was they only coverage by the weight of the damaging items, like the other's review, it is a scam company and please think twice before hiring them, dont because save that 1/3 of the cost and end up lost fortune, you need got your own extra insurance, they are totally unreliable, you must go though all the pages of the contract before confirm & set the moving date, last time they hided & asked us signed all the pages of yellow contract on the spot during the moving, basically you got no choices, such an bad experience & big disappointment, took us lot of work, patient, time & energy. I used Up Front to move into the home I just left. While the scheduling went well, the movers were almost 3 hours late and being on a tight schedule to vacate the old home, it took us into the late hours the day we moved. The drivers / workers stated that there was not enough people scheduled to move me as per the schedule of (4) guys, there were (2) when they all showed up to work. That was problem # 1. The workers did finally show up and were in contact with me the whole way. The reason for this poor rating is only based on the fact that no one from Up Front has returned my (3) emails or returned my calls back on the matter of being late, that is not how to run a business. read more

Starting off saying Javier and Marco were great with my move for the most part! Very professional and had to wait for ME to get off the phone with their office.. which is usually the other way around. Now I say "for the most part" because I had an issue with one of my items.. my mattress. Near the end of the move I noticed my mattress was in the wrong room so I moved it to the right one, with the mover's help. The mattress was wrapped in plastic and not their usual thick blanket. So when we moved it, it slid on the floor, causing the cover to get a little dirty, no big deal.. but I did notice about a 3 inch chunk of my foam mattress ripped off one of the edges! I reported the damage to them but "had no clue how it happened".. they never reported it to their office so I need to call tomorrow to use their insurance... They didn't properly cover my mattress and they threw it on top of other boxes on their dolly, I think to prevent the mattress from sliding off the boxes, they grabbed it, but also ripped that piece off!Other than my 10 year warranty now voided on my mattress, the rest of the move was great.. Until we get to payment... I was originally quoted a 3hr min move since only the big/heavy item needed to move to the other building in my complex. I was emailed an estimate by Frank and called back to confirm it with Luis. Luis changed my 3hr move to 4hrs "just in case" so they don't over schedule the day, makes sense.. but when they finished the 3 hr move, they wanted to charge me the 4! I called the office and they tried to tell me they had a 4hr minimum, even though I was quoted for 3.. I spent about 40 mins after my move trying to get that sorted out until we finally did... what irks me the most is that I called Up Front about 3 or 4 times before my move, to confirm and set everything up... I only spoke to frank once, the rest of the times I tried calling him, it went straight to voicemail.. If my mattress is dealt with properly when I call, i will increase my star rating, but my review will remain the same read more

I had a situation where I needed to get help moving out of a storage unit fast, but with limited funds. I provided a deposit to Luis to secure my reservation but he did not disclose the additional charge for fuel on the estimated cost so I cancelled, but he kept my deposit to reserve and has since refused to return it to me. They may be good movers, but I will NEVER contact them again and I caution you if they require a deposit to secure a reservation because if you cancel they will not return it. It was quite deceptive because in the text message he sent with the estimate it said no additional charges and this was the total but it was not. read more

Carlos, Martine and Cesar were the hardest working movers we've ever worked with! Having moved up to 8x in the last 15 years for work, they were friendly, up front, hard working and very respectful. I've moved 58 times in my life. 58 is not a typo. Many of those were cross country. I am practically a professional mover myself. That said, I used UFM for a short day move from Pasadena to Hollywood. Javier, Ever and Sergio did a tremendous job. They were hard working, fast but not careless, moved from storage to storage first, and the rest they moved to my new home.
