We did a table for 7 for dinner last night . The Dinners we ate were bland and small for the price. There wasn't even salt and pepper sitting at the table so we can season it. The bread that was served was a bit stale and we didn't even have bread plates to eat then on . The soup was flavorful but a tiny amount or salmon or crab in those 2 different soups . The chicken was dry n the season salad and only tasted like they put lemon on it . The beef Bourguignon was the blandest I have ever tasted and our friends that got salmon dishes the portion was so tiny we were hungry after dinner . We had a party of 7 for dinner and won't come back . They need to give better portions for that price and add more seasoning etc . Should have gone to Duchess Daughter bc at least for the price which is the same there portions and flavors are much better . It was a nice atmosphere but that's about it read more

Frederick has so many wonderful restaurants offering excellent food and a pleasant dining experience, and this is NOT one of them. Anyone visiting is much better off skipping this place with its rude staff--owner/hostess specifically--and outrageously overpriced menu. read more

We happened to walk by this restaurant one day and look at the menu as as we passed and the owner came out to greet us. He was a really nice man and he gave us a brief history of the building that they renovated and told us about the menu and the restaurant they used to own in NYC. We decided to try it out a few days later and we came on a Saturday night. We were very glad we made reservations because the place was absolutely slammed. The ambiance is adorable and I felt like I might actually be in a real French restaurant in Paris! The food was perfect and cooked expertly. I had the bone in rib-eye (which was cooked perfectly medium rare) and my husband had a beef stew that I can't recall the French name for, but he loved it! The apple turnover for dessert was absolutely to die for and well worth the wait. The service was a little sporadic, but honestly, for how slammed they were I am really impressed the food did not suffer in the slightest. Only the amount of times the server visited our table, however he was accommodating and provided great recommendations. Overall I really really enjoyed my experience here and we plan on coming back for brunch so we can really enjoy this little gem at a time when they might just be a little less busy. Four of us had dinner at "Up on Market" the other night and it was delightful. The Crab Bisque was divine and all our entrees, the Crab and Pasta Special as well as the Pan-Seared Scallops were well prepared and delicious. We even had room for the Fruit Tart and the Almond Cake, both top notch. The décor of the restaurant is stunning. Our server was charming, efficient and professional. Went for lunch when I visited the first time. The server was friendly, And the ambience was very nice. It felt like a French bistro. I had a quiche and a bowl of the mushroom soup. The soup was delicious. The filling of the quiche was good. The crust was not. It was tough and bland. I was expecting much better since the server told us that they use French flour and French butter. Since I did not get a knife, only a fork, I couldn't eat the crust because it wouldn't break with a fork. The second time I went was for coffee and a croissant. My guest and I said we would like cappuccinos and to share the two different croissants. We asked for them to be cut in half so that we could share. When we receive them they were not cut in half and we did not get a knife to do it ourselves. The cappuccinos were just OK. We asked if we could have some sugar, which was brought, but no spoon. We wound up stirring it with our fork. Flatware seems to be a challenge for them. The server this time had a bit of a negative attitude. Tried this restaurant during their soft opening, then again a few months later and then last summer. Every time there were missteps. We decided to try them again today because we love the decor and hoped to fill the void left by Le Parc Bistro closing. While I was pleased with my order, my husband's veal chop was tough and didn't approach the quality of Il Porto for twice the price! The owners did not handle the situation well on a number of levels. We overheard a regular complain that the au gratin potatoes were told only to be told that they shouldn't have been. We are tired of giving this restaurant yet another chance to prove themselves. read more

One, we ordered the curry chicken sandwich and was only alerted that it was unavailable after twenty minutes (as the remaining two sandwiches were being bagged). Note, no one was ahead in line and the tables were clear or ending meals. This place is beautiful! The atmosphere alone would bring me back in but after having some of their food and staying at the Inn, I am coming back for sure! We ordered the mushroom soup (which was really good, but I love mushrooms) and the filet with mashed potatoes and this incredible blue cheese sauce. This bakery, restaurant and bar is a great addition to the north end of downtown Market St. The bacon and brie omelet was light and flavorful. The baguette was the perfect combination of crusty and tasty. It is hard to ignore the bakery items and had to finish breakfast with an eclair. We've been to Up on Market several times. We enjoy the food and atmosphere. The owner makes a point to speak with everyone when he is present. Although each time we go the service is noticeably worse. Our most recent visit, the restuant only had one other table present and they had no menus to provide us. when provided with menus they only had 3 for our party of 4. We sat for 20 minutes before someone came over to introduce themselves as our server, then just as long for water to arrive at the table. We continuously had to flag someone down for drink refills, our appitizer plates were left on the table until the food arrived, and the food came out a full hour after ordering. While waiting for our meals, no one checked in with us. it appeared the same level of "service" was being provided to the other guests and several parties left. As stated, the food was good, but the overall experience was poor. The food is also on the pricey side. ultimately, we left disappointed with our experience. read more

The place looked good online and in person, and they offered our group nice seats out on the patio. We came during off hours in-between lunch and dinner and there weren't a lot of other diners, so we were hoping for reasonably nice service, but boy were we disappointed. Once we were seated, it was like they forgot we were there even though they didn't seem all that busy. One of us eventually went inside to find someone to bring us menus, then later again to ask for a drink menu. By the time someone finally came out to start taking orders, we'd already been there for half an hour. We were hungry, tired, and didn't want to keep feeding the parking meter forever, so we gave up and left. Some of the other members of our party stayed behind and waited for their food. When we talked to them afterward, they said that everything continued to be slow, their meal took around 3 hours (never mind that most of the parking in the area is limited to 2 hours) and the food wasn't even particularly good, just overpriced without decent quality to show for it, so this was a real disappointment. read more

Super cute place...and that is about it. It took over 20 mins to be greated at our table, and another 10 minutes after I approached someone to say we've been sitting there and not been acknowledged. We never got our water and got our coffees last. The food was ok, but over priced for what it is. I ordered a garden salad (consisting of not so fresh leaves and a dressing) and french onion soup (literal onion soup with toasted french bread covered with melted cheese on the side). The cappuccinos were ok and were luke warm. My guess was they still had some kinks to iron out as it's a new place, but honestly, it wasnt all the busy for the service to be such a disaster. Maybe it was not hot today because it took 30 minutes for an omelette and French toast? Then again our croissant that we ordered heated came right away, but cold. One time is a bad day. We had a glass of wine and waited for 10 minutes to get the check and acknowledgement that food still was not ready. Only then did they want our name to make it up. My guests and I have enjoyed every experience at this wonderful bistro in downtown Frederick. What is astounding is the size of the menu and complexity of the dishes. For an intimate bistro you would never expect such a diversity of dishes. From beef bourignon to swordfish to scallops and grits, everything is beautifully cooked and presented. I was so very excited to return here after a spotty first visit last fall where service was practically non-existent and the attitude was, let's say, "very French" (as in, no customer service, prepare to wait three hours from start to finish, and good luck ever getting anyone's attention who works there). Too long, didn't read: I will not be returning. It has such lovely ambiance, but it is entirely understaffed, the staff (hostess, blonde woman), literally did not engage or ask anyone about their reservations when groups walked in, in the very crowded lobby - because at least three parties showed up for 7pm reservations and not a single table was ready to be sat (even though there were multiple open tables). She didn't make even an attempt to welcome anyone in, nor even ask about our reservations and frankly had a rude attitude like she could not have cared less. She stared blankly at the crowd of ten people waiting in the tiny foyer, but said nothing. Truly the worst customer service I have experienced in Frederick at the many fine restaurants we have downtown. So disappointing - the food was great, if you can actually get it served to you or even be sat at a table after waiting 15+ minutes from your reservation time. As a downtown Freddie resident, there are countless other, better options, where the service is -- existent -- the staff are not rude (again, angry-faced looking blonde woman who acted like she didn't care if anyone ever ate, got a table, or enjoyed their experience). Go to Tasting Room, Thatcher and Rye, Monocacy Crossing, Isabella's, Orchard, countless others where they seemingly actually care about customer service. This was a train wreck. read more

Stopped in for lunch today. Had heard good things and was not disappointed. They have a nice menu selection, staying true to their french bistro theme. I choose the soup and sandwich combo. The soup of the today was crab bisque and it was creamy and flavorful with ample chucks of lump crab meat garnish. My sandwich choice was the curry chicken salad on croissant. Yum! Cool and creamy with good curry flavor, just the way I like it. Portion sizes were just right for lunch. The only disappointment was the coffee which was a bit acidic, and a little cool, and didn't match the quality of the rest of the experience. Of course, if the coffee is the only compliant, not too shabby. They are still new and I'm guessing they'll address this in short order. (Go try Gladchuk Brothers coffee and you'll see what I'd be expecting). Service was great, parking easy and free on W. Third St, prices reasonable, and the decor is charming, welcoming, and comfy...exactly what I would hope for in a bistro. Stopped by this place randomly. The owners live above the restaurant in this historic building in downtown Frederick. Good food at reasonable prices. The lamb chops were good as were my two chosen sides of garlic mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. The wine and beers were reasonable priced. They have outdoor seating and a European feel - there is no rush to finish eating. The wife is the chef and the husband runs the service and talks with his customers. Opened last November, and seems to have survived covid19. Overall, Definitely worth it. read more

I am not one to write reviews very often, let alone a negative review, but our experience yesterday was miserable, and could have been handled better, and I felt it was necessary to share for future potential patrons considering this restaurant. We have been here before several times for lunch and dinner and have had business meetings and such here also. We have enjoyed the atmosphere and the homemade soups, and planned to come back for more. So, we decided to make a reservation for Mother's Day, for both my Mother and my husband's Mother, who were both able to be together with us for this special occasion. We made the reservation over a week in advance and arrived 15 mins early. We were seated right away, and ordered fairly quickly, as it was a 2pm reservation and my Mother-in-law is 88 years old and was hungry like the rest of us! We sat around chatting and enjoying conversation, not noticing the time go by until an hour had passed and we had not even received any bread. We asked for bread, and received some, and then another hour passed... and they still had not brought the soup. The server and one of the owners, Francis, came by to apologize a couple of times, and simply said that they did not know what was going on, and that the kitchen was busy. After another half hour went by with no food (two and a half hours now) we still received the same explanation that they didn't know what the problem was and that the kitchen was busy. Finally, they brought 3 of the 6 entrees (half of the table) and thankfully two of those were for our mothers so we told them to go ahead and eat. The rest of us waited for another half an hour for our meals to arrive, trying to be patient and calm and keep the day enjoyable even though it was causing tension and serious frustration for everyone, and our mothers had to eat without the rest of us. When the last 3 meals finally arrived, everyone else was finished eating, one meal was undercooked and overcooked (different elements), and honestly, all of the meals had very poor presentation and other mis-cooked items. My husband went to speak to one of the owners, Francis (who had been to our table earlier) to explain our frustration, and Francis was understanding and asked what he could do. While they were politely discussing a resolution, the other owner came out and confronted my husband in front of the restaurant, and argued with him, and even though he calmly explained to her what happened; she was indignant. My husband walked away, and thankfully, Francis came back to our table shortly after and made amends and compensated us for the troubles. We very much appreciate that. I understand that sometimes things happen and restaurants may be short staffed, or unprepared after fully reopening. If that's the case, then perhaps you could schedule your reservations more accordingly. And most certainly be more apologetic when you keep your customers there for over 3 hours for basic soup and lunch items. But the extreme rudeness of the other owner, the lack of attentiveness and explanation, the enormous wait (and waste of time), the fact that I chose this establishment out of ALL of the other wonderful restaurant choices in Frederick, for Mother's Day with our parents (mine drove 16 hours to be here with us), and the poor quality of food... it all left a bad taste in my mouth. I will not be bringing any more family or friends, nor professional colleagues or clients here anymore, as I cannot risk another disaster like this. read more
