Ours was a tricky project because our home is a townhouse that's one unit in a 6-unit building, and we're part of an HOA. Prior to calling Atticali, I had another company come out and do an inspection. They said the only way to solve the problem is to do exclusion work to seal all the places where rats are getting in across the entire building, including entry points on the common roof. But that company would not take the job because they were not insured to work on roofs and also because they didn't want to deal with an HOA. So, I called Atticali based on their good ratings. Irving was our inspector who came out and did a super thorough job of inspecting not only our unit but much of the entire building. I followed him throughout the inspection, which took about 3 hours. Some of my neighbors let Irving inspect their attics, where he showed me evidence of rats in each one of those attics. Irving identified many entry points on the common roof and verified that the only way to solve the problem is to seal all those entry points across the entire roof of the 6 units. I tried to rally my neighbors to have this job done together and properly because we all had rats in our attics and walls. But my neighbors were not interested. I also spoke to my HOA to see if they would cover the cost of the required work on the roof or at least approve this work to be done on our roof, since the HOA is responsible for the roof. (Note that these are one-story units with no access to the attics except for a small attic area above each garage, so the rodent exclusion work had to be done mostly on the roof and exterior.) Atticali was very accommodating and agreed to seal the areas they could in and above our one unit. They also agreed to work with our HOA regarding the required work on the roof. The two men who came did an excellent and thorough job, cleaning up all rat droppings and debris, and sealing all possible entry points. They did miss a bit of clean up, but once I pointed it out to them they cleaned the area very thoroughly. Even though we know it's not the ultimate solution (to have only our one unit addressed) and rats can theoretically get into our unit via our neighbor's unit, we have not seen any evidence of rats inside since then. The house has wood siding in front and stucco on remaining three sides. They were the only one willing to drill hole through the exterior wood siding in front and patch. They also paint if owner provides the paint. The other two contractors said they had to drill holes from inside the house (oh no, we had just patched out walls after the electrical work). So far looks like house is staying cooler in warm afternoons. We shall see this winter!

I had my external walls insulated and they used cellulose to fill making 1.5 inch holes between the studs. Then they use a cork foam type backing to put in the holes as a vapor barrier and close it with stucco patch. Then comes the texture followed by primer. And if you provide them your matching paint they will color the patches too. They are nice and simple folks and easy to work with. Thanks I wonder why I waited so long to insulate the walls as the difference is noticeable and will save energy. They also help with rebates offered by state or federal.

When I told him that I needed someone to clean our dryer vent and what had happened, he said he could come out either between 5:00 and 6:00 pm that evening or the next day. It was already mid-afternoon when I called, so I was surprised to hear him say he could still come out same-day, but I decided to have him do that since I was free and also still a little shaky following what happened with the vent either smoking or steaming. His pricing was incredibly reasonable and fair and so far, in the couple of weeks since he was here, we've had no issues with the dryer.
