Great service, beautiful interior, and wonderful food are all part of the experience we had at Upland. We made reservations for 3 at 5:30 on a Sunday. It was fairly busy, but not packed. We were seated right away. What we ordered: we started off with a little gem salad which was the perfect amount for us to split. (The bread they bring out to start the meal is absolutely heavenly, but we wanted some greens as well.) For our main we ordered the mushroom pizza with the cauliflower side. The cauliflower was good, but forgettable. The pizza had a delicious pesto-based sauce. The crowd here is very upper east side esque. You don't necessarily need to dress up to go here, but I wouldn't dress down. The service was so attentive and nice. The food and atmosphere are lovely. It's got a nice vibe, and we went at lunchtime, so thinking it must be really fun to go to at night. We had a 2pm reservation-fully aware that lunch is only served until 3 (this will come into play in next paragraph) but the reservationist assured us this wouldn't be an issue. We had a male server (forgot his name) but very friendly, and personable. We ordered the little gem salad, the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe, the cookie basket, coffee and a Bloody Mary. Bloodies were very good, as was everything else. Cookies were average though. Cacio and salad were large portions so brought some home and had it the next day. It seems as though our server was done for the day and we had a female bring us the check right after we had ordered dessert but hadn't received it yet. I posted a pic of the receipt, the time stamp was 3:06. At 3:10, Cheri came over and asked us if we were ready to pay. Really? 4 minutes later and we were waiting for dessert...The restaurant stops serving lunch at 3-you think they lock the doors and are closed from 3-5pm (dinner begins at 5) by the way she was acting. Was she getting off work too? What was the hurry? I thought it was rude. A bad look. Came for a belated birthday brunch and felt very welcomed by staff. We ordered a cocktail each and shared the breakfast pizza and upland burger. The former a brunch specialty and the latter one of their classic, popular items offered throughout the day. I would say definitely order the breakfast pizza - it is cream based with broccoli, egg, bacon and sausage. Good on its own but better with hot sauce! The burger was ordered medium but came out a bit rare (not a huge problem). It was good and came split, making it easy to share. However, I would like to note that flavor and consistency was pretty one note - quite mushy. Cocktails were well mixed and the taste/flavor of alcohol was masked. Upland did a great job since the last time I visited. Upland delivered both delicious food and stellar service to create an amazing experience for us. I came to visit on a Friday night with some friends and we were immediately seated. Our waiter was friendly, personable, and knowledgable and gave us recommendations in addition to what we ordered and we decided to give these recommendations a go. We ordered two servings of pappardelle, the lobster cavatelli, the burrata, the heirloom carrots, the beef tartare, and the crispy duck wings to start. Before I start, I can't stress this enough, Upland does carbs EXTREMELY well. Before our food arrived, we were again given our complimentary bread which was just as fresh as my first visit. After talking to the server, he explained that the bread is made fresh every day using an in-house recipe which is why it's so good. The best part is that the bread is complementary! Moving on to food, the lobster cavatelli was tasty and had sizable chunks of lobster (worth it!) and perfectly al dente pasta. The burrata had a beautiful runny texture and was creamy which paired perfectly with the pickled onions and leeks served with sourdough bread. The heirloom carrots are deliciously roasted with artichokes and dressed with a honey walnut glaze that would make you forget you're eating a vegetable. The beef tartare and the pappardelle are just as amazing since the last time I reviewed. The only average dish I had was the duck wings. While the duck wings are juicy, we weren't particularly impressed with the seasoning. To pair with the amazing food, my friend and I each got a glass of Lambrusco and De Fermo "Le Cince" Rosé respectively. You cannot wrong with the wine here. Lastly for dessert we had the cheesecake with assorted citrus and the brownie sundae. I've had a lot of cheesecakes and I must hand it to Upland for having one of the best new york cheesecakes I've had rivaling Eileen's. Most NY cheesecakes are too dense, but the cheesecake we had is creamy and balanced by the acidity of the citrus compote. The brownie sundae is just as delicious with the rich brownie paired with the salted caramel ice cream and bits of hazelnut crunch on top. The caccio e pepe was also very good, however it was not personal favorite. The sweet potato steak really blew me away. I did not think a piece of sweet potato could taste so good, but they embellished with the right sauces and had me wanting a second plate of it. We also ordered the grilled artichoke and the pappardelle, both of which were also worth trying if you dine at Upland. All of the food was reasonably priced. I recommend their Espresso Martini as well because it hits different. Ambience (5/5) This part really blew me away. I loved the vibes of this restaurant. It was very intimate and cozy with such beautiful decor and a gorgeous bar. This is the perfect place to have dinner with a group of people and be able to hear conversations. The lighting was also spot on and really set the mood with its dimness. Service (5/5) Nothing short of phenomenal. From the bartender to our waiter, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. They gave us honest opinions about the food and were able to make modifications to some of the dishes. First of all, the space; absolutely gorgeous. Golden and spacious and full of floral arrangements, perfect for bigger groups or parents who want a classy Manhattan vibe. Everything we ate, from the Crispy Artichokes to the margherita pizza with nudja, tasted fresh and creative. The fritto misto had fried lemon peels which I loved. Finally, the service was wonderfully orchestrated. Returned to Upland to dine in the restaurant for the first time since the start of the Covid pandemic and found the food to be still excellent. We had the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe, Lobster Cavatelli and the Skirt Steak for the entrees along with the Roasted Cauliflower as a side/vegetable. All were great and it was actually the Roasted Cauliflower that stood out the most - we loved the preparation! I've been here a few (4-5) times. Always a nice spot for drinks. Dinner is usually solid, but it has been lacking the last couple times I've been there. Service is great, but the quality of the food and drinks is dwindling. I suppose that's what happens to a lot of long-standing restaurants in NYC (recall Upland is almost 10 years old, which is much longer than other eating establishments last). Last night we ordered the following: Grilled Octopus Burrata Lemon/Shrimp Mafaldine Skirt steak Octopus is great. Everything else needed work. Pasta came out cold and the lemon/butter/Parm sauce had congealed. The Burrata was fresh but the 2 half pieces of bread had massive holes in it, rendering them useless as a vehicle. Honestly the roasted tomatoes on the side were far better than the Burrata and prosciutto. The skirt steak was tough and the peanut or cashew romesco on the side was too chunky to be useful. I will inevitably be back, but I wish they would step the game back up to the first few times I went. read more

Service was extremely quick- granted, we were there on a Tuesday night, but we probably were given everything within 20-30 minutes of sitting down, yet it didn't feel rushed. Love the warm lighting that is dispersed everywhere in the restaurant. The service was also decent. The food on the other hand could have been better. We ordered a Salmon Benedict and breakfast pizza. The Salmon Benedict was good, but it was lacking some flavor. It tasted like something at a diner and I guess my expectation was a little higher for this place. The breakfast pizza was definitely more unique and we enjoyed the saltiness from the meat with the egg that was cooked on top. Very nice restaurant. We sat at the roadside seats on a cool summer afternoon so it was very agréable. The burrata was very fresh and creamy and it's super yummy - I especially liked the grilled tomatoes in it. The pizza was very tasty too, the dough was unique and chewy. I took my wife and girls here Saturday for lunch, the inside is clean and modern and we had a reservation so we were seated immediately, our waitress was friendly and showed genuine concern for my daughters allergy, the only issue that came up with was my pancakes. I requested no blueberries and when everyone's meal came out mine had blueberries. My friend made a reservation with one of the managers weeks ago. It w as a long email chain with multiple back and forth emails. When we arrived, the reservation was nowhere to be found. We showed the receptionist the email confirming our reservation. For the next twenty minutes they tried to find room for 5 adults and 4 kids. Finally, they gave us a table set for four adults. I told them this is likely going to be too small. Then they gave us the table next to two doors. Every time the door opened it was frigid wind blowing onto us and all our children less than 5 years old. Then I walked downstairs to the bathroom. There is an entire room down there with plenty of tables. I look around the restaurant, there are plenty of open tables with enough room from all of us sans frigid wind. The burger was good , the pickle was not. The brunch steak looks like 40% of the size of the dinner steak and not proportional in pricing. It was bland. Part of it was medium and part of it was well done. The steak is hidden by two eggs so you can estimate how small it was. read more

I made reservations at 8:30 - please note that during COVID times and NYC mandate, since all restaurants need to close at 10pm, the latest you can be seated is 8:30 to account for ordering time and eating time. We reserved a time to eat at the greenhouse huts - while there isn't a heat lamp inside, the "indoor" hut provided some relieve from the cold. It was 45 degrees out and I was able to take my jacket off. We ordered the gem salad, truffles pizza and cheeseburger. I had the junmai sangria and my partner the IPA. We both enjoyed the food. A beautiful Italian American restaurant with elevated dishes and cocktails. I always look forward to seeing their signature lemons in jars. It's captivating color and love for fresh ingredients. The Lobster Cavatelli is my absolute favorite dish. I couldn't get enough when I tried it for the first time. I could have gone for two! The presentation is beautiful featuring a balance of color and just the right amount of vegetables. I LOVE lobster so much. This dish melts in your mouth. If I ever dine alone, I'd definitely order two for myself. I'm obsessed. I really appreciate the variety of seasonal cocktails and how much color is included for summer season. The coconut cake is so beautiful--Instagram worthy. The passion fruit jam and coconut sorbet go very well together. It's also something cute to share on a date or with your best friend. Loved the atmosphere for brunch, there was so much light coming in from the massive street side windows. For dessert we got the donuts because apparently that's the thing to get at Upland. They were fine, I don't get what the hype is all about but it was a nice sweet ending to brunch. This place is down the street from where I live. I've always wanted to try it, so my husband, his family, and I came here. We dined inside (which they follow strict protocol). For drinks, I had the Hot Toasty Orchard, which is hot but has a great autumn orchard fragrance with spice. Then, I had the Valentina, it was light and refreshing. For appetizer, we shared Little Gem Salad (avocado, cucumber, ricotta salata + walnut vinaigrette) the salad had the right amount of ratio and citrus. I just wanted more, I would totally come back for this salad. I wish the dish had options of chicken or shrimp, it would pair well. For dinner, Lobster Spaghetti (meyer lemon and chive), this dish was semi-alright, personally I would put lobster with pasta/ red sauce. Lobster is a delicate shell fish, which should be represented like the angus steak or the whole Bronzino. My husband got the angus steak, he really enjoyed it. My friend and I had a very enjoyable brunch here a few weeks ago. There were no reservations available but it wasn't an issue walking in and getting a table for 2 at 1 on a Saturday. The food wasn't necessarily the best part. We really liked the restaurant and appreciated how the staff didn't rush us. We started with the donuts. The glaze and the raspberry jelly donut were our favorites out of the 3. Unfortunately I couldn't enjoy my coffee with the donuts. It took me asking for a coffee the times before I finally got one. Have been coming to Upland for a few years and as always they delivered on the food. You can't go wrong with any of the pizzas (great starter for a group of 4), the crispy thin crust pies are full of flavor. The cacio e pepe is a perfectly simple, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. They even brought us a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream with our lemon cake for our anniversary, nice touch. Our waiter was super attentive, friendly and helpful. While the food is always delicious and hits the spot with the variety, along with well made drinks, the outdoor ambiance we got was distracting and a bit uncomfortable which is what led to the loss of star. There's scaffolding covering the sidewalk (of no fault of their own of course), but our table was right next to the unassuming, unclear entrance, which led people to stop and hover in front of our table because they were unaware of where to walk to check in. It was a constant distraction throughout the meal to what was supposed to be our romantic anniversary dinner. We asked for accommodation but were told they were fully booked (despite two tables being empty our entire stay). For the sake of the diners you put right next to the entrance, I'd suggest more clear signage of how/where to check in. Will be back for sure, but will wait until indoor dining is back. read more

I've been craving cacio e pepe for months, so it was easy to choose my entree. The bucatini was perfectly cooked, not a lot of pepper, with extra cheese shaved on top. Yum! My friend ordered the cioppino with shrimp, mussels, clams, cod. We shared the duck wings, a first for me. A little spice. Don't miss that little yummy piece at the bottom. I don't think we realized what duck wings looked like (or how big they were). We had contemplated the lemon olive oil cake but got the ice cream sundae with chocolate sauce, strawberries, bananas, almonds. I think it was supposed to have chocolate and vanilla ice cream but I only got a little vanilla ... nothing special, a lot of whipped cream for $14. Skip it. Ate outdoors inside one of their individual houses, decorated with a string of lemons. Be prepared for the cars speeding by on the street. Fun night out! read more
