My mom and I get the calzones from here and they're pretty good. We had a bit of a hiccup last night though. We ordered through their new app for our usual calzone which we added 3 additional toppings of basil, garlic, and grilled chicken. It said it would be ready in half an hour and I live across the street. Time came to go pick up and that's where the hiccup happened. The employee there told me there was an issue with the system and my calzone was made plain without my toppings, but if I could wait 15min for a new one, my actual order. I'm pretty chill about it and sit and wait for it. It's finally done and the chef who made the order apologized for the wait. I asked if I can have the original calzone despite it being plain and he said I totally can. So it was a win for us as we had extra to share and even the plain calzone was delish. read more

I've only had good experiences with this Upper Crust. The people working them are friendly and helpful. The wait time is never unreasonable. All the pizza I have had tasted fresh. Our recent enjoyments include the Margarita, Swellesley, Harvard, and white shrimp. The small is perfectly enough for two hungry adults and has us feeling nicely satisfied for $18. To people with busy lifestyles and needing some quick, delicious to-gos, Upper Crust has been a lifesaver. read more

Although ingredients tend to be fresh and high quality, the whole doesn't equal the sum of its parts in this case. Ovens seem dirty, with black crunch dust on the bottom of pizzas and calzones that I've ordered. Staff seems aloof many times, with entire or partial orders being forgotten. I've had to go back to pick up parts of the order at a later time. Pricing is on the high side for a pizza place considering the overall experience. I still eat here when in a pinch, but I accept the fact I'll spend more and expect less than at other neighborhood places. read more

Around midnight, as I was falling asleep, my husband woke me up to ask, "Was there really bacon in that pizza?" Yes, the "Uncommon" pizza left us both wondering long after our meal whether the advertised bacon was existent or not. The combination of topics sounded so perfect - bacon, pineapple, and jalapenos. I received a very nice follow up on my original Yelp review from the manager. At the end, I was given a gift card for my 1st order and enough for a second order. They hand delivered the gift card. I decided to give the Upper Crust another try. I really like how you can order 1/2 of 2 different pies . This time, I decided to get a 1/2 order of the Charles and 1/2 buffalo chicken. It took an hour. I tried to tip the delivery guy in cash but he did not have change. The pizza was not super warm. The buffalo chicken was better than the BBQ chicken I ordered last time. It was not super heavy in sauce and had plenty of chicken. The Charles Street 1/2 sounded way better on paper than it tasted. It lacked flavor or "wow" factor. I really thought I would love it :( It is definitely better than Stevie's Pizza on Boylston and college Pizza. I will probably use the rest of my gift card but doubt I would order from here again. There was hardly any cheese on the pie, and the underside of the pizza had a bunch of black/burnt crumbles, which was super messy to eat/clean up. Overall, I wasn't impressed. What a let down tonight. I ordered a cheese pizza and Greek salad for my family. The pizza sauce had no flavor-I mean none- no spices, salt, garlic, nada. The pizza also seemed to have no cheese. Of course there was "some"cheese but not enough to even notice. Honestly, it was like eating a round piece of cardboard. Now for the Greek salad. A bit more luck here. It was a massive load of fresh lettuce, two slices of plum tomato, two cherry tomatoes, two slices of cucumber and a handful of pitted olives. There also was prominently displayed about a tablespoon of feta cheese on top of the boat load of lettuce and sparse other things. Best part of the meal was the Feta cheese. I will never order from them again. My son was so excited when the delivery arrived and then almost in tears when the cardboard tasting pizza slice entered his mouth and he chewed a few times. I could chalk this experience up to the massive legal/corporate /franchise issues at the company but then I have to ask myself..."How can you screw up a cheese pizza--and to that degree?" read more

This is by far the best pizza in Boston. I live in the South End of Boston so I've eaten at pretty much every pizza place on Yelp--totally underwhelmed by all of them. Some I'd eat at again if I were really hungry but that's about as good as it gets. Upper Crust however, is mind blowing. The crust is crispy, the ingredients are fresh, and they aren't expensive. They're also one of the few places to sell pizza by the slice...and the slices are enormous--like 1/4 of a 16 inch pizza. No one in Boston cuts slices like Upper Crust. Also, this needs to be mentioned. There's a reviewer up here that had the audacity to give UC two stars but he has 6 check in's! Seriously? If you don't like the price (his complaint), don't buy it; but don't purchase the pizza, eat it on six different occasions and then give them two stars. Not cool. read more

I grabbed a cheese slice after work the other week for dinner. Although it was my first time actually eating here, I've passed it quite a few time and just noticed some commercials on TV. I was running low on cash, but for $3 and some change, I got a pretty big slice that was tasty but not too cheesy or oily, things that normally keep me away from pizza. My Tremont & Hawaiian pizzas arrived right on time, piping hot and delicious (the Tremont moreso than Hawaiian) despite my dislike of thin crust. Just a warning though - when they say "slices" of tomato, they mean decent-sized SLICES of tomato. Wouldn't be an issue if the crust wasn't so thin, but it wasn't overly garlic-y and everything was really tasty anyways, hence 4 stars. read more

Wow! Feta broccoli! A friend suggested I try the pizza of the day and I thought it was fabulous and I had to agree. The wait staff were friendly and service was quick. We plit a Greek salad that was good too. It doesn't get any better. The thin crust means you really taste the ingredients. I'd give my piazza experience an A plus! I don't mind paying top dollar for good food, but this place just plain sucks-- whether you eat in one of their uncomfortable shoe-box restaurants or have it delivered late and cold by a jerk on a bike. The Upper Crust South End has gone down hill since re-opening several months ago with new owners. Though the staff and owner are very friendly, they have missed the mark - several times - on both quality and timeliness. I have gone to the Upper Crust about 5 times since the management change. I used to go once per month. The $5 coupons allured me to go (and go back). The pizza is often undercooked, and they underestimate the time (25 minutes, but then I get there to pick up and it's more like 45 minutes). Also, they seem to be changing the receipe because the pizza doesnt taste the same. Will try the Beacon Hill location. I hope for the best for the UC-SE but it's not looking good thus far.... read more
