Firstly, the server named Diyar D had an automatic attitude when I came with my wife and daughter. He pretty much threw the menus on the table and asked for what we wanted to drink. After ordering our food, my wife found a strand of hair in her burger, and the server never came back to our table for drink refills or to ask how everything was. My wife had to literally get up to flag another server down and tell her to take the ruined food back. Our server returned to give us the check and still had an attitude and said nothing. I don't want to say it was due to our skin color, but it sure felt like it since he was active at every other table more than twice that I kept count of. I will not recommend this place to anyone, and they need to get rid of Diyar D as soon as possible. read more

Great food that was brought out very quickly. Family went with more traditional fare of omelette, eggs, pancakes. My daughter got the Shady pancakes topped with Nutella, dark chocolate since that wasn't chocolate enough, and fruit. I tried a few bites and it was heavenly. Whenever I visit a new restaurant and truly enjoy the meal I've eaten, I go back to make sure it was really as good as I experienced. The first time I ordered the house salad which consisted of, sliced green olives, chopped walnuts, onion, tomato and cucumber, topped with an entire sliced avocado, all on a bed of field greens with a side of lemon vinegarette dressing. I had to ask for bread and was given a half slice of pita for which I paid $1 extra. I thought that was a bit much as usually, bread comes with the meal. If you're going to charge for it, give me the whole darn slice of Pita please! The second time I went back an ordered the same thing, however this time, the one thing that was different was, the avocado was only a couple of tablespoons of mashed up goop. That part, I did not like! I pushed it to the side because it ruined the look of my salad and I wasn't sure what was going on there...They should have just chopped or sliced that as well. They keep the restaurant very clean and have been VERY attentive each time I visited. I'll visit again, there are other things I would like to try. read more

Went here for a Saturday brunch and it was the first time I went to this place since the Pamela's closed. We got the Shady pancakes with nutella, strawberries, and whipped cream. The pancakes were huge and fluffy! It was a little bit too much chocolate for me but it was still delicious. We also customized our own omelette with ham, cheese, and pesto on top. Upstreet Diner opened in the former beloved Squirrel Hill Pamela's Diner space (which happened to be the first Pamela's that opened in the City), and those were some big shoes to fill. But fill they did. Upstreet's menu is definitely NOT a copy of Pamela's but, rather, reflects the owner's Turkish roots with some interesting and delicious Mediterranean breakfast/brunch/lunch options. My husband enjoyed the classic shakshuka--eggs poached in a tangy marinara-type tomato sauce whereas I opted for the delicious Cyprus--a sujuk (a type of sausage) omelet, with a light Hollandaise and ajvar, accompanied by grilled halloumi (a Cypriot cheese) and tomato sauce on a croissant bun with a refreshing cucumber tomato salad on the side. Coffee was good too! Wait staff were friendly and there is a sheltered outdoor area where I believe you can dine with your furry companion at your feet (check with staff first). I'm looking forward to enjoying more dishes at Upstreet Diner as well as introducing friends and family to this find. read more

Finally got around to trying this place and the food was pretty tasty! As you can guess the place serves a lot of breakfast food, but they have some more unique almost upscale items you don't see at a typical diner (beyond your basic eggs with toast or pancakes). I got the shakshuka which was tangy and satisfying, especially with sourdough bread. The shady French toast was so rich with chocolate I felt like I was eating dessert for breakfast! Everything was good until my husband grabbed the ketchup bottle and gave it a little shake to put on his plate. The ketchup literally exploded and landed on his hand, shorts our food! I'm not sure how that much ketchup came out but it was orange rather than red so it must have been bad. They offered to make us new food. After waiting for 20 minutes she presents us with the bill and says the owner said the best they could do is give us some pancakes or waffles "on the house". We declined and told them to cancel our order since our replacement food hadn't arrived yet. The owner never came out. They went back to the owner and he agreed to comp the meal that my husband had and was able to eat. We left over an hour later - my son and I sticky from ketchup and HUNGRY!!! We tipped the waitress because it was not her fault, but I was surprised that the owner just sat in the office instead of coming out to make amends if some sort. Poor customer service. read more

I guess I ordered badly because I just wasn't impressed with this new Squirrel Hill spot, after hearing lots of folks rave. The pancakes were dreadful, with a very odd tasting syrup. Scrambled eggs were just typical scrambled eggs. The coffee, however, was strong, hot, and was refilled promptly. Service was quick. I will likely give it another try, perhaps ordering one of the other more fanciful egg dishes. In the meantime, my advice is skip the pancakes. read more

It has very fast service, and the staff are pleasant and attentive in a very genuine way. the food was delicious, and the menu was very middle eastern, which makes this place unique among many other breakfast places. although the menu was full of delicious dishes like shakshuka, salmon toast, avocado toast, and plenty of other delicious selections, I was able to make a meal out of the extras, ordering some sourdough toast, two eggs, some ham, and potatoes. my only complaint is that the design is very minimal and boring. there is very little decor and it's just a kind of cold ambience. otherwise, I am very pleased with the whole experience and would come here again. read more
