Their Lousiana Hot Pepper Chicken is a super-tasty dish, and I also enjoyed their malted waffle I just had for Sunday Brunch. Service is always prompt, food is always hot, and flavor is always excellent. I would say though, that they could rework and add a few chicken entrees, although this is my personal preference. I find the Arrarat Chicken Wrap doesn't quite satisfy like a good hot Cajun Chicken Sandwich or toasted wrap would. Prices are a bit high, but I believe this location is likely high-rent, so this is to be expected. I enjoy the food a lot, so I would probably eat there more frequently if prices were more reasonable. This restaurant has my favorite pre-meal bread/butter in town. And the mix on the Coca-Cola is perfect. Most times I just come in and order a couple bread baskets and get a few Cokes, but then usually tell a waitress the table next to me said they would pay. When she goes to check, I make a clean break for the door. If anyone tries to stop me, I yell "Get out of my way, I'm a doctor and there's been a terrible traffic accident." we went here in March 2021, while restrictions were still high with covid. we were able to reserve a bubble for outside seating and it was great! although we booked it like a month in advance, it was worth the wait! not only were we able to add people to our reservation the day of, but they were really accommodating with food allergies and gave great drink pairing recommendations. a lot of places during covid give you the impression that they want high turnover due to less seating, but this was not the case! we never felt like we were rushed out and the staff and food were both lovely! My wife and I are huge fans of this place based solely on their Cajun meatloaf sandwich. Coupled with the home fries or mashed potatoes with creole sauce, it's a can't-lose combination. Other standouts for me are the black bean soup and red beans and rice. Their menu isn't the largest around, but what they do have they do very well. Aside from the incredibly tasty NOLA offerings, Uptown has the finest beef in Bloomington hands down (sorry, Janko's). I could eat a New Yorker (best burger in Indiana) for lunch every day for the rest of my life and never tire of it. The steaks and medallions stand firmly between my palate and vegetarianism. And on a cold winter's night, I have found nothing from any Bloomington eatery quite as comforting as the Uptown Pot Roast preceded by one of their countless zesty soups. Good Cajun spot! Gotta go for the meatloaf with the Creole topping. Mom never made it so good! The black bean and rice soup was good. Others at nearby tables were raving about the Mesclun salad and gumbo (market priced daily reflecting the chef's desire for fresh fish in the gumbo). Had a wonderful lunch with family when i was back in town. I had the salmon wrap with mac n cheese on the side. The salmon wrap was for the most part super, except I thought the salmon was a tad overcooked-nearing the dry stage. The mac n cheese was to die for. Stopped here per many positive reviews and its proximity to our guest house. The menu looked pretty good, and I'm willing to spend a few extra bucks if I'm going to enjoy it, especially when traveling. It's a pretty nice place - had we gone during dinner I would have certainly felt under dressed, however on a weekend for breakfast it was very casual and busy, but not crazy and loud. Our server was very good, and took great care of our 16 mo old daughter. The coffee was very tasty which is also key for a good breakfast, and when the food arrived we were very happy. We had both specials for the day - the huevos rancheros (I have to if it's available), and the Indonesian Corn Cakes. Both were very good, and contrary to what I've read, the portions were more than ample. We took half of the cakes with us, and I barely finished the huevos. I went there last Sunday and it was delicious as I was heading back to Chicago. Upon reading other reviews, we decided to drive and eat there for brunch with no complaints. I had the Popeye omelet which was a decent portion. Their home fries we scrumptious with a touch of mushroom. I had such a delicious (and reasonably priced) lunch that my girlfriend and I came back the next day for dinner. The dinner was exquisite: the gumbo was fantastic and authentic (my girlfriend is from New Orleans and couldn't stop raving about it), and our seafood entrees were fresh and perfectly seasoned.
