Once in a blue moon I'll try one of the "Hot & New" suggestions on Yelp and actually really like the restaurant. Fortunately, this is one of those rare times. Urban Cup really is like it's description: Asian comfort food, and done deliciously at that. There is a little bit of something for everyone here because their menu has a very nice variety of dishes, so I'll just mention some of my favorites. The spare ribs were a pleasant surprise- succulent and fall off the bone. The chicken plate was flavorful and every bite was tender. One item that really exceeded my expectation was the BBQ char siu bao. It's smaller than the typical ones you'd see at dim sum, but the bun was hot and flaky on the outside, light and airy on the inside. Overall, I enjoyed every single dish we ordered and I'm excited to try the others. The staff here were friendly, helpful, and seemed to genuinely care about customer satisfaction. Had a bad first experience. My wife called in a phone order at 5:58 pm. They said it would be about 15 minutes so I headed over at 6:10. My food didn't come out til about 6:55. The guy at the register was super apologetic, gave us a couple free drinks, and eventually comped the meal. Couldn't get mad at the dude because he was really nice about it, but my last text to my wife was "NEVER AGAIN!" Brought the food home. Both my wife and I were pretty annoyed. We each took a bite of the fish sauce chicken wings at the same time, looked at each other and said "damn, we going back there again, huh?" "....yeah, we totally are." The fish sauce chicken wings (which were probably the reason for the delay) were damn good -- I can almost say they were worth the wait. We also got the garlic noodles with a fried egg and gochujang ribs. The noodles had plenty of garlic flavor but needed a bit of salt (maybe because of the egg). It did, however, go really well with the flavorful ribs. I'm also a fan of the cilantro in both dishes. Can't say it's cheap, but the portions were decent. The food is legit, the service is legit. The wait sucked, but I'm hoping my experience is the exception, not the norm. It was their third day open, so I'm chocking it up to early growing pains. At 6:50, I would have never thought I'd be giving this place 4 stars. This'll prob change to 5 stars the next time around as long as I'm not standing around as long as I did today. The decor is nicely done, bathroom is clean and smells fresh. Ordered egg rolls trio which was crispy, light and the dipping sauce complements perfectly. It wasn't greasy at all. Built my plate with garlic noodles and filet mignon; the beef was tender, juicy and flavorful however didn't care for the noodles. The side salad came with the dish was better than the noodles. I was looking for a new Pho place one night and I saw this place, the reviews say the serving was "too small" but ai found it quite filling especially when you drink the broth! The broth was the best part!! I enjoyed it so much! I didn't need to add any sauce to the Pho. I tried both of them and it was outstanding. Every week we try a different Vietmanese restautant in Garden Grove or Westminster. This place is close and excellant. Pork gyoza deep fried so very crispy. Dippng sauce is the spicy plum sauce you get at any Asian restaurant. BBQ chars siu bao: very tasty with a bit of sweetness from the bun reminiscent of hawaiian bread! But small with a decent amount of filling, $4.95 is pushing it. Cajun garlic fries: solid. They are the thin fries that I prefer so more crispy than soggy. It's light on the seasoning, but a bit heavier on the garlic which I liked. Chili-lime cauliflower: BOMB! They were lightly grilled and doused in a chili-lime fish sauce tasting thing. Topped with some lightly pickled onions and fried shallots. I wish the cauliflower was more aggressively grilled so it would have a nicer texture. Homemade lychee soda: BOMB! Not too soda-y, not too syrupy. About 5 whole lychee in there as well. Food is good but they need to be more organized. We ordered food through yelp and it provides a time frame of when to pick up your order. We had to wait an extra 25 minutes!!! Apparently they said they gave away our filet mignon garlic noodles to someone else and orders were getting mixed up. They tried to apologize by giving us a complimentary drink for waiting. Although parking was a tough challenge to accomplish, it was well worth it for Urban Cup's food. They not only deliver in style and ambience, but also in tasty quality. I build my own plate with garlic rice and had their ribs as my main protein, in addition added wings and a miso soup on the side. I went during the holidays and the restaurant was decorated so cozy. I especially love the warm lighting and it's just an overall great restaurant to hang out with friends. There isn't much flavor compared to the popcorn you would get from tea houses like (Lolicup, Tastea or even Ding Tea). They give you the sweet and sour sauce to dip with the chicken but even then you're just tasting the sauce. Build-A-Plate Garlic Noodles with Filet Mignon The garlic noodles was really good, it wasn't dry or bland. There was some sauce but it wasn't drowning in it. Really flavorful and pairs nicely with the meat. I was reluctant to get the Filet since other Yelpers had issues with it being dry and chewy but luckily for me it was soft, moist and flavorful. I would definitely get this again. All and all it was okay to me. The plate I got was big enough to share between two people. I've been coming here consistently for quite a while. The customer service is generally spot on. And they pretty often hit the Asian comfort food if I crave occasionally. I think they're Pho is the best in the neighborhood short of going to Westminster or Garden Grove. And I have tried quite a few pho places within about a 10-block radius and urban cup has one of the best pho soup base. I think their pho is their best entree dish. Their next best entree dish may be there yellow curry. Their Pad Thai and fried rice is pretty decent. And most of their appetizers or side dishes are amazing, although for nostalgic reasons they're fried BBQ pork baked buns don't quite hit the spot for me. But definitely everything is pretty tasty. Also, prior to covid-19 when guests could sit inside, there were plenty of outlets for people to use the laptops or cell phones. There is free Wi-Fi. My friend ordered a plate with garlic noodles with shrimp and the other with garlic noodles with rotisserie chicken. Both came with a small side of kale salad. I took a bite of the shrimp and it was good but the noodles-although cooked well weren't as garlicky as I expected. There were a few booths and central stool seating. I came here once and it was good. I ordered the top sirloin with garlic rice- the cashier tried to warn me about the garlic rice saying it's very garlicy but I love garlic and it was delicious.
