They seal the case with a sticker so you can't check during pickup. It's good for doordash but for someone doing pickup it's a nuisance. I trusted them to get the order right but so far every time I have done it they use it as an opportunity to rip me off. They didn't include any sauces which are 50 cents for extra so they practically scammed $2 worth of food. Every time I come here I tell myself "maybe they'll change" but this was the last straw. I won't be returning. Service is terrible, most of the time the staff is hiding in the back and it's an assembly line type of setup so to miss sauces is beyond lazy. Take note on the past reviews, It's a reoccurring issue that management clearly isn't willing to change. I fear for how the kitchen fridge may look like with negligence to such little details. Working in the building right above Urban Plates, my biggest challenge has been not eating here, EVERYDAY. The braised beef bowl with rice is truly my most favorite option to get here and I usually eat it at least once a week. The beef is perfectly slow cooked with the mushrooms and you get a choice of white or brow rice or mashed potatoes to go with them. I have only tried the white rice and I'm not ready to try anything else for a while. This is a dish I will drive back here for, if I ever switch job location. read more

Basically a slightly more upscale Tender Greens. The setup here is a bit odd. Long cafeteria style L-shape. Plenty of indoor seating and covered/heated outdoor seating as well. Dog-friendly patio! Parking is available in the structure, entrance off Del Mar. Free and open on weekends, but you'll want to ask for validation on weekdays. The online menu has a lot more description than the ones in the restaurant. Best to just take a gander at your options as you walk through the line, but you are kind of expected to know what you want when you enter the line to keep things moving. A little frustrating. Not true cafeteria style. As for food, I went with a steak plate (topped with chimichurri sauce) and chose mashed potatoes and roasted carrots/golden beets as my sides. Bread is optional and always a yes for me because carbs. Portions are basically the same as Tender Greens, but I will say Urban Plates is bursting with flavor. Steak, potatoes, veggies - all delights to the tastebuds. Everything tasted very fresh and quality. As a result, you'll spend a little more here than at Tender Greens. My dad also got a steak plate and he unluckily got some subpar slices of meat; he asked to switch his protein for something else and didn't have a problem doing so. My mom enjoyed her chicken, asparagus and beet salad. As I mentioned, the layout is a bit odd - if you need to exchange an item or get extra sauce, etc. you basically have to cut the line and ask one of the chefs. Also, if you decide to get dessert after your meal, which we did, you have to cut through the line again to get to the dessert section. They have close to a dozen dessert options on any given day, which made for a tough decision. I went with an individual banana cream pie and thoroughly enjoyed it. Just the right size and also very flavorful. I don't want to say that UP is overpriced - the taste and quality make things worthwhile - but I would consider a trip here more of a treat. I'll still find myself visiting Tender Greens more frequently, but I will certainly be back to Urban with my pup. Eager to try some of the other protein, side and dessert options. read more

Went to Urban Plates twice in a week's time and planning on coming back pretty soon... 5 stars!!!!! The made from scratch food has been consistently delicious, fresh, and flavorful at Urban Plates. My favorite items to get are the Chimichurri Steak, the Ahi Tuna, as well as the Turkey Meatloaf. The plate order comes with two side dishes and toasted bread, and there are plenty of options for sides, including gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. My favorite sides for now are the mashed potatoes with gravy, red lentils and black beans, beet salad, roasted brussel sprouts with turkey bacon, and brocollini. Most plate dishes are less than $15, which is a tremendous value for the price. Make sure to make room for dessert... the molasses cookie is definitely worth getting after a wonderful meal. In addition to plate dishes, there's also a good selection of salads, bowls and soups, as well as sandwiches. Haven't had the chance to try these other offerings since I feel the plate dishes offer the most bang for your buck. The staff at Urban Plates is also pretty friendly and welcoming! Love that Urban Plates also has a pretty big dog-friendly patio and that there's 90 minute free parking right behind the restaurant. The entrance to the parking structure is on Del Mar just west of the restaurant. Don't forget to get your parking ticket validated. read more
