Beer was cold & service on point. Staff, service and food are . Enchilada sauce is definitely homemade and super delicious. The chicken and steak inside the enchilada was dry and not cooked fresh. Great if you want to have some beers and watch sports but not if you are looking for a nice dinner. The food in my opinion is considered bar food. Severs are dressed in regular clothes so you don't know if they work there or not they are all walking around on their phones vaping and also saw one of the cooks drinking a beer in the kitchen. They took our order rather quickly but kept sitting at table with "friends" and took forever to deliver our drinks we ordered. The food was good and not overpriced. Our server was very sweet . The issue we had was a gentleman swooped in and took my husbands glass from him before he had finished his drink. We watched him stack other glasses inside it and take it to the back. When we brought this up to our server, she tracked down the man who cleared the drink and came back with "our " glass stating he hadn't dumped it out yet, trying to return it for us to finish. We had already seen him stack glasses from other tables inside it and it had already made its way back to the dish room. Obviously we no longer wanted that drink. When we sent it away they offered to make us another one but we were already soured on the idea knowing their cleanliness standards were lacking. Me and my husband travel home to Colorado and wanted to try this place. It is definitely a sports bar and the ambiance is nice ; however, it's more a place for drinks and not food. Our waitress was good but the food was borderline Taco Bell and what I imagine wet dog food must taste like since we ordered the burrito bowl with ground beef. We had food and dish soap residue on our silverware . The manager was not receptive on our complaint about the silverware and blamed it on the waitress. I believe the blame should have went to whomever wrapped the silverware. When checking out I stood at the counter for a few minutes while the girl behind the counter was more interested in her phone than me. This place was....interesting? It's located in middle of a slew of hotels and an offering of numerous chain restaurants. Urban Sombrero is about as far as you can get from a chain restaurant. Came here for a quick lunch before my afternoon flight. Decided to get the 3 taco special. Asked for 2 chicken and one vegetable. Asked the waitress if the veggie had mushrooms and explained I was allergic; she said no. Got served chips and salsa which were very good. Spicier than I would have expected but very good. The tacos came back quickly but as soon as the waitress left I noticed tons of mushrooms on the veggie taco. It seems they were short staffed so after I was done with my second taco I had to stand to get the waitress. She was super nice and apologetic. I asked for a beef taco instead. Now for the food... the chicken taco was good. The beef taco was edible at best, very greasy. Overall it seems this is more of a bar than a place to eat. I like to try different places to eat and this was my first time to urban sombrero. It was my last as well. Unless that place gets new waitstaff or new management. The waitress had one of the worst attitudes from when we sat down until we left. When mentioning the mistakes to our orders and her attitude, the manager just stated "oh she is having a bad day". THEN SEND HER HOME!! Dont make excuses for her. Very poor business behavior. The waitress even came up and started yelling, when one of our voices raised back, the manager stated not to yell at his waitress. That waitress should have been walked out the door. The food was just all right. Nothing to rave about. What was the mistakes made? Asked what was on tap, ordered beer on tap with a lime and she brought a bottle with a lemon. When calling her over to the table she asks snidely "whats your problem"? Then was asked where an item was that should have came with the combo that was ordered, she turned and left and had someone else bring it to the table. I ordered two enchiladas one chicken one ground beef and a taco with carnitas. I got all chicken. Very unacceptable. Oh and to mention, the dining room was not that busy. While sitting there we watched interaction between another waitress and manager and she gave him the finger. Obviously didnt care if patrons saw it or not. So you can see now what type of establishment this is. We waited 30 minutes after this fiasco for the check or even anyone to come over so we could ask for check. Then walked to the front to ask the hostess for the check. I heard the waitress ask the manager "did they pay? Did they pay"? Then the manager comes over. We advised we never got the bill. He refuses to separate the bill for each of us to pay. In regards to manager comment, attempt to make it right was made but was clearly obvious it was not attempted to make right by the customer but by the waitstaff. Attempt to make it right would have been to provide a bill for each of the customers in the party like we asked but you refused. Attempt to make it right would have been to provide the service at the table after telling the waitress to not attend to us. And definitely not to keep us waiting for more than 30 minutes for the bill. There was clearly no honest communication or direction between you and your staff about what the next steps were. The only reason I'm giving this two stars was because it's convenient to my hotel. The food was alright. Nothing really stands out. It was full yes but it's because it's a bar and probably the only one in the area that is open for dine in. So I walked in, waited about 10 mins for the receptionist to come back to the desk. I asked for a table outside in the back. She put me in the back but inside. I didn't make a big deal about it. The waitress took another 15 mins to see if I needed more time to look at the menu. The menu is only three short pages. Plus there really isn't a lot to choose from. I got my food, the ratio of the food is not well balanced. You get a big sizzling plate of mixed green pepper and onion with a few pieces of shrimp accompanied with a saucer sized plate for rice and beans and another one for some cheese, salsa, lettuce and sour cream. Let's not forget about the tv. It was soooo loud it felt like you are in whatever they're watching. Not sure if the person in charge of the remote has hearing problem but I definitely got my hearing damaged from the loud tv. I went here to enjoy the basketball and baseball game at the same time and I will admit they covered the place with big screen TVs. It is a good atmosphere to have work friends or a group at the bar or at a table. However if you are looking for authentic or even good tasting Mexican food, this is not your place. The food was average and mediocre at best. I really wanted to love the Carne Asada shredded chicken french fries that I had, but everything was so bland. Even the fries weren't even seasoned. The drinks were over sugared. The salsa was bland. Everything about the food and drinks was "ehh". The burritos look big but they were probably not tasty. Everything looked bland on everyone's table. Come here for good times and inexpensive drinks, not for mouth watering food. Another thing I would add is the service was also mediocre, my order initially went to the wrong person because the waiter was too busy on his phone texting. Served a truly awful glass of completely flat beer, my friend ordered a raspberry margarita which was orange and tasted of mango (?), and another friend ordered an Old Fashioned, which didn't arrive until after his food. It was served in a 20 oz glass, and was full to the brim. When he informed the server that this was not what he had expected, she sarcastically replied "why, what do you think an old fashioned is" and walked away. We were then visited by another server (who later identified himself as the business owner) - after my friend said that he wanted to send his drink back and also to raise the issue of the servers attitude, the owner replied "well I don't appreciate your attitude" and walked away (he later returned to offer an apology for things "getting heated", at which point he did take the drink away). I appreciate that the bar was busy, but the service received was appalling. 2-star rating based entirely upon the chicken wings, which were excellent. read more

This place is close to being awesome. The staff is great the vibe is awesome and the manager is actually involved which is a rare thing. Kristin was our bartender and she was awesome sauce. Here's the problem. The food is close....but it's not there. I think they should pay 10-20k for a tex mex consultant/Chef. Have that guy work at both spots and show them how to cook food for the guys that work there. Food is ok it's just kinda bland and not sexy. Get people excited about your food. Maybe re work the menu with a professional eye. If they did that I think it would be money well spent and they could franchise the hell out of this place. Also the Michelada was a beer with bloody Mary mix. Come on man. Mexican this thing up. Give me a thaym (sp) rim....big mug....again bold flavors with limes/Magi sauce/ maybe a chili fliating and such. The one we had was sad. Went here last night for dinner since we were checking out the area and they had a happy hour. We chose to sit outside since it was nice . We all ordered the $3.99 house margarita that was on happy hour and they were good and a nice size. I ordered 3 tacos 2 chicken and one beef and had a side of speciality hot sauce to go with it which was nice and spicy. The other people in my party had the southwest chicken Cesar salad and a fish sandwich. Our sever was quick and friendly and we had a nice outdoor view. Came to have a quick drink after a very long travel day and this place was open near my hotel. Our waters took a while to get to us. Then I ordered a beer that was on the menu, but they no longer served, I also ordered a bourbon they didn't have, which is fine. However, a "runner" dropped off my beer and apparently the same person was supposed to tell me that they didn't have what I ordered. Instead, I made it through have my beer before the server noticed or even acknowledged that I was missing a part of my order. Fast forward to finishing my beer, having to ask for a second time for my bourbon. We ordered wings...and didn't get them. A tab was rudely dropped off with out the additional items we ordered, we didn't ask for our tab. I asked to speak with manager, and I explained to him what was happening. He was UNAPOLOGETIC, very UNINTERESTED in what we had to say, INCREDIBLY dismissive. On top of that he (Dave) chastised his server out in the open, we could see him yell at her, grabbed a ticket out of her hand and proceeded to say she had an unhappy customer. He didn't come back to our table to see if anything we told him was missing came, didn't check to see what else he could do to make the experience better. He went about his merry way with a scowl on his face until we left. The overall environment of this place is okay, the service is slow, granted it was busy. We never got our food. First off not moderate noise it is LOUD. Sat at the bar staff was efficient some dude was holding court with his buddies hammered and loud AF. Ordered taco plate it arrived with water refried beans that were Luke cold. Refried beans Luke warm and bland. Tacos no flavor on chicken or heat it was all bland. Pacifico was fantastic. Cold and lime was perfect cold and juicy. This is a sports bar with not great food but has games on the tv. Lots of staff and they were working quick. That is why it gets two stars. read more

Urban Sombrero has been a staple for us over the years. I think it's one of the best places in the area. I'm a big fan of their portobello mushroom fajitas. Really friendly servers. The restaurant has a fun vibe, but it can get loud after 6pm, especially Friday and Saturday nights. (Which is to be expected for a sports bar!) This is a kid-friendly restaurant and we all love their tortilla chips and salsa. My only issue is that sometimes the chips taste a bit "off", like they're using (or reusing) bad oil. I stopped in here this week since i wanted something close to the hotel. I walked in and stood next to the front desk. There were quite a few workers that looked at me and then just let me wait for about five minutes before one of them finally walked over to me and asked me if I wanted a booth or high top. She walked me over to the booth. Again, service was slow to take my order. Once I ordered, food came out in a decent amount of time. I finished my carne asada entree and then waited for a fair amount of time again until one of the servers came over and asked me if I wanted to pay the bill. I said yes and was told to go over to the front desk and someone we come over so I could pay. Again, had to wait another five minutes or so before being able to pay. I don't mind waiting if it is busy but the place wasn't very busy and there were lots of servers in this place, all just hanging around and chit chatting with some actually doing work. I will not be going back to this place since there is already another Mexican restaurant in a nearby hotel and a new one opening soon and the food has got to be better and as well as the service. I almost walked out before getting seated and wanted to walk out before paying since they didn't really seem to care whether you were there or not. read more

If you're looking for someplace to dine along East 40th, and you aren't interested in a chain restaurant, your options are limited. You have several Asian restaurants, and you have Urban Sombrero. This seems to be the most well-received restaurant in the area, and rightly so. It's a trendy sports bar serving delicious Mexican food. While we were there, we were able to watch baseball, hockey, soccer, and poker simultaneously. The portions range from generous to huge. The burritos some of my dining companions got were the size of a brick! The chicken for my chicken fajita was well cooked and still juicy and tender, accompanied by lots of fresh sauteed green and red peppers (but only 3 tortillas... a 4th would be nice). I will raise a yellow card for my drink, their Urban Margarita. First, I should say the amount you get is a lot for your money, including 2 sizes for drinks like the margaritas. But I asked for no salt and I got salt. Also, I noticed that some of the margaritas on the menu explicitly refer to lime juice, and others omit this, which implies some of the entry level margaritas may be using a mix. But to me, these are minor. With a drink that size in front of me, plus excellent food and good service, I left very satisfied. read more
