Quick update as my last review was 3 years ago. Since my last review, the interior of the restaurant has slightly changed, different chairs and different wall art. Everything was modern and clean. I ordered a Tofu Bahn Mi to go. It was prepared and packaged quickly and delicious as usual. Service was good.

Love urbane. A classic local spot to grab a good healthy bite. The service is great , shoutout to mike and gil. I ordered the ahi salad which was delicious but I didn't ask for no cilantro (I hate cilantro) but none the less its a lovely spot with nice ambience. I think the prices are fair for the good food you get. The passion iced tea is my favorite!

I used to love Urbane Cafe. I don't know what happened in the quality / prep of their food since then, but I ordered a sandwich and something sharp scratched the side of my mouth. I was shocked to see a piece of metal that I spit out. As much as I used to love Urbane, I will not be returning back here.

Came in for lunch and it was empty. Ordered quickly but my order took quite a while. Food was still good!

Fresh Focaccia Bread, continuously being made on site
Peter M.

Urbane Cafe, predominantly a sandwich shop, has developed a unique approach to serving this most cherished item. While most establishments use the standard bread, yes maybe with different types, Urbane goes another route. Their main show is sandwiches made of freshly baked discs of focaccia bread (and you can see them being prepared). This time, I had the hunger for the "Club". Essentially, as advertised, it contains Roasted turkey, Applewood-smoked bacon, avocado, cheddar cheese, sliced tomato, green leaf lettuce, herb aioli. Served with Urbane Side Salad. While the accompanying salad was fresh, the sandwich was below par. I am going to be candid, so please do not misunderstand. Anytime there is bacon touted in a menu item, the eatery should deliver. In this case, it fell way short. A few limp pieces that hardly were noticeable or tasted. And therefore, disappointed the taste buds, the brain and the stomach. In addition, I felt the sandwich lacked a fresh taste and vibrancy. Or maybe here, I made the wrong sandwich choice.

Chimichurri Steak

Stopped by for a quick bite and had a Chimichurri Steak tri tip steak sandwich. It was nice out so we ate in the outdoor patio. Very nice and clean. Staff was very nice. The Chimichurri is pretty good. Flavor is a little more subtle than the pastrami (my go to) but in a good way. And it goes well with the salad. A sweet and savory combo. Thank you!

issue I had Friday with this hard sharp piece of bone, or plastic that I bit down on but I'm being treated like I'm in the wrong here.

Estela from guest relations did put the rewards onto my correct account. She was very helpful and kind.

Ahi tuna salad

Nutrient dense is not a bad thing! When I'm going for a healthier dining option- I'll stop by here. Easy parking, order ahead, pick up or eat in - all super convenient, flavorful and good for you! I go for the Salmon Bowl ($13.95) which is 745 calories and has: glazed salmon, mixed whole grain rice, marinated kale, edamame, lemon wedge and a sweet aioli drizzle atop the fish. Virtuous and yummy. They'll give you a piece if their famous focaccia bread too...(unless you say, "No"). Other favorites include the Mediterranean Bowl (675 calories), the Seared Ahi Tuna Bowl (540 calories), the Power Veggie Salad (305 cal) & the Keto Cobb (280 cal). Comfy, wood-toned decor, friendly employees and a clean restroom! What more could you ask for?

Turkey Club Sandwich

I appreciate a sandwich with good bread and Urbane Cafe has exactly that. They make their focaccia bread in store, daily. Their ingredients are fresh and they're pretty consistent. My go-to order is a turkey club and whichever Fresca or lemonade is available when I'm there (they're all so good, sometimes it's hard to choose). This location is conveniently located near csun. I think it's a great alternative to the fast food options nearby.

Pesto & Sundried Tomato Sandwich with salad.

Great lunch experience and excellent customer service at Urbane Cafe, Reseda Blvd location. The staff here is very welcoming and provided excellent customer service. The eatery is clean. A young lady is constantly cleaning and picking up plates and trays. She also offered to take ours. She was so sweet. She was also the person that brought our food to our table. This eatery has plenty of tables and chairs for dining inside as well as outside. The place is spacious and a good size. The outside patio seating is a good size and the area is very clean. We ordered the Pesto & Sundried Tomato sandwich with salad and Pastrami Tri Tip sandwich with salad. The Pesto & Sundried Tomato sandwich has roasted chicken, basil pesto, sundried tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, arugula and vegenaise. It's very fulfilling and the chicken portions are just right. Love that it's chicken breast and not over cooked. The Pastrami Tri Tip sandwich has pastrami tri tip style with swiss cheese, remoulade aioli, housemade apple coleslaw, bread and butter pickles, served with a side of Golden Mustard. Pastrami is on point and flavorful. Found our go to for quick nutritious and delicious sandwiches that have farm fresh ingredients.

Southwest Santa Maria BBQ Chicken Salad

Great first visit! Brock was cashier who answered all our questions and was patient and had great customer service skills. I had the Southwest BBQ salad and it was amazing. The presentation was great and tasted the same. Gil brought out our order and was kind and professional. He said he prepared our meals and took great care in doing so. My friend mentioned the warm cookies they had so that was a no brainer. One chocolate chip, please. It was a real treat, not too sweet. This locations decor was warm with wood tables and chairs. The walls are glass and the natural lighting gave a rustic charm to the place. I will definitely be back for the seasonal menu.

The Cafe Salad
Jenn H.

I don't know why I don't come here more often. This is only my 3rd time here. I have loved everything I've tried. Today I got the Cafe salad. Brock at the register was super nice and patient with all our questions. During dinner he even took our order for more focaccia bread and brought it to our table. Gil who made our salad and brought it to the table was the best. Took pride in his work and checked on us a couple of times. The restaurant was clean and well kept. When I took my dirty dishes to the trash, I didn't see any other dishes piled up. They were very attentive in keeping everything orderly. Now that I know about their rewards program, I'll definitely come back more often.

Alexis M.

I come here pretty often! Love their portobello sandwich, pastrami sandwich as well as the chimichurri one! When I'm not in a sandwich mood, I get their salmon plate which is very filling and healthy. The salads are good too, I always ask for extra mandarins. Can't forget the chocolate chip cookie - it always hits the spot.

Do you do catering ? If so do you have a menu?

HI Larissa! Yes we do. You can check out the menu here.. https://orders.urbanecafe.com/

Do you have gluten free bread for the sandwiches?

Hi Supriya - Thank you for being our guest. Unfortunately we do not have gluten free bread but we can lettuce wrap anything for you! I will be sure to tell the chef we have guests that would like gluten free bread! Thank you!

My husband wants to try the southwest chicken sandwich, however he can't digest the corn and black beans due to stomach problems. Can he sub those 2 ingredients 4 bacon at no extra charge?

Is there vegan options?

There are 4 vegetarian sandwich options. I would imagine their bowls / salads can be made to be vegan.

What are some hidden menu items?

My favorite is the Cilantro Chicken Sandwich and Tom's Special :) Others are some past menu items... Italian Chicken, Turkey Melt and Rosemary Chicken Sandwich. Have fun! :)

Yay! A hotpot spot that's local to me!…read more I've been coming to this place since they soft opened a few years ago. I love hotpot/soup and eating hotpot from this place has always hit the spot. Little FYI by the way - Just recently, this location switched their dining style/format to AYCE which I think is a really nice and welcome change. You mean I can eat even more? Say less. I also recommend this place to people that haven't tried hotpot yet. Staff are really attentive and helpful. If you're new to this kind of cuisine/restaurant, just let the staff know and they will gladly assist you on how it all goes. Not really a food review kind of guy but I really wanted to share my thoughts of this place. Hence this style of me just rambling. Long story short, one of my favorite places to eat in SFV / Northridge.

Caution before you visit!…read more The restaurant's reel advertises "$22.95/$23 All You Can Eat" and emphasize unlimited skewers and other appetizers. However, it does not disclose that there are two different AYCE tiers. If you're expecting to receive the skewers and other appetizers shown in the promotion, you'll actually need to order the $28.95 GOLD option. I couldn't find any explanation of these two tiers anywhere on their Instagram page. I also noticed someone asked about the AYCE prices in the comments, and the restaurant replied: "$22.95 for lunch & $28.95 for dinner with unlimited meat, appetizers and our signature rice bowl." That response still doesn't explain that there are different menu tiers or that the skewers and some of the items shown in the promotion are not included in the lower-priced option. I personally found the promotion misleading because it gave me the impression that the advertised items were included with the $22.95/$23 AYCE. Just make sure you know which menu you're ordering before you go.

We ordered their bestseller Kuromayu ramen, seaweed salad, and shrimp shumai. Quite honestly, the ramen was waaay better than Silverlake Ramen. It was much tastier! The meat was so tender and it was well-seasoned. The seaweed salad was OK. And the shumai were four large pieces with generous portions of shrimp. What a great find on Reseda Boulevard. I don't eat pork, but I'm okay with pork broth, so I asked if I could substitute the pork chashu for chicken. What I received instead was popcorn chicken, which was unexpected and not at all what I had in mind. There was no communication that this would be the substitute, which made it even more frustrating. On top of that, I was still charged for it without any clarification beforehand. Transparency goes a long way, especially when making substitutions. Overall, between the lackluster flavor and the confusing substitution, it just didn't feel like a thoughtful or well-executed experience.

Brent's Deli is an institution in the San Fernando Valley, and it may just be its best. One thing…read morefor sure, the portions are generally humongous so you will never leave hungry. Nothing succeeds like excess. In fact, most people will need a take out box for one less meal to cook. Delicatessen means delicate eating in German, but at a Jewish American Delicatessen, the emphasis is on the Eating, which I am not complaining. 1) I requested an off menu item of having a Reuben sandwich where half is Corned Beef and the other Pastrami. Brent's Reuben has warm Sauerkraut, grilled Rye bread, melted Swiss Cheese, 1,000 Island dressing. Thinly sliced, multi-layered Mound of Pastrami is a bit on the dry side. Curing doesn't create a deep meaty Umami and spicing is present but attenuated. The Corned Beef is moister with bit more Umami & plush, thin multi-layered red colored meat. I have to say the Pastrami at Langer's is cured more intensely to bring out a deep Umami as well as more complex and complementary spicing of especially warm spiced cloves that adds aromatic richness. Brent's Pastrami doesn't seem to reach that kind of apotheosis. 1b) I asked for the steak fries to be fried two minutes longer for a crisper finish which was honored. Not much in way of that distinctive potato earthiness, but acceptable. 1c) Coleslaw is mayonnaise based, watery, bland, but a good cruciferous, fibrous veggie to add more fibre, healthful phytochemicals to counter the meat overload even though it isn't flavourful 2) Carrot Cake is closer to a delicate, dense, moist spice cake. A slice is enormous since it is cut from an extra tall cake studded with crushed walnuts and a cream cheese like not too sweet frosting. At $14 it could feed 4 people. Service is fine. They take your order and run with it. Bit of tunnel vision where it may be a bit hard to flag them down. But the job does get done. Overall 3+ stars
