Great sandwiches! Incredible bread made in house. It can get packed during lunch, however, the line moves fast. The problem can be in finding a place to sit. Staff is friendly and polite. Food is fresh and tasty. Parking is a nonissue as it is located in a large strip mall. Everything on the menu is good. My favorite is the Italian Chicken Sandwich. I ordered a chicken sandwich that was recommended by the cashier. It came with a side salad in which they included extra dressing upon request. The food was good. Urbane Café has been on my list of restaurants to try, but until last night, we hadn't gotten around to it. So when the Hubster suggested going to dinner before a cheapo movie in Simi, I suggested trying the Urbane Café right near the Target in West Simi. Staff was friendly and allowed us to look at the menu, not pressuring us to order right away, I ordered one of the specials, the "Fallin' for U chick - Salad" .Per the description, it contained pomegranate seeds, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, seasonal slaw (heirloom carrots, julienned apples and beets), feta cheese and roasted rosemary chicken on a bed of black kale and red leaf lettuce with pumpkin spice buttermilk dressing. I'm usually not a kale lover, but it was chopped up and didn't have that crunchiness that I don't like. The combination of juicy chicken, fresh veggies and fruit topped with the pumpkin spice dressing - OMG! It comes with a piece of their freshly baked focaccia bread, which is heavenly! The husband, who is an "eat to live" kinda guy, did enjoy his Santa Maria BBQ Chicken Salad with Chipotle Ranch dressing. Although this is one of those "place your order and pay at the counter and we'll let you know when it's ready to pick up" kind of places, the young lady who took our order came over to check on us - "How is your meal? Would you like some more salad dressing?" "Yes, thank you!!" Ordered the pesto and sundries tomatoes chicken sandwich and BBQ tri-tip. They both come with a side house salad with balsamic vinegar as dressing. The wait wasn't long - maybe 10 to 15 minutes. Everything is made to fresh except the drinks are pre-filled which wasn't really the best. My guava lemonade was watered down a lot. Otherwise, pretty good! I came here today with my family. I ordered the Asian Bowl. The cashier asked if I would like a protein added. I asked her if she recommends the soy chicken. She said yes, I recommend the soy chicken and the ahi. I said I am a VEGETARIAN so ahi is out. So I got the soy chicken which I figured was a vegan/vegetarian option. When I got my bowl, I tried the soy chicken and it was REAL chicken. I have not eaten chicken for 25 plus years. I took it back to the cashier and said " this is real chicken, I said I was a vegetarian". She said it's chicken with a soy sauce. She was not apologetic at all. She asked if I wanted it re-made and I said yes. It took at least 15 mins and my family was finished by the time I got my food. And now that I think about it, I am sure I paid for the "soy chicken" and my money was not refunded. Do not recommend this place if you have any dietary restrictions. read more

I've eaten at Urbane Cafe before and was pleased to see one opening in Simi Valley. They have a variety of sandwiches to choose from. I've tried several and haven't been disappointed. All have been good. They have freshly made bread for the sandwiches and it was a nice touch to see one of the employees making the bread. The restaurant is very noisy. It's a shame they didn't do more to control the noise since it is a newly constructed restaurant. Luckily, they have outside tables. Some have umbrellas, but they really need umbrellas for all of them as the ones in front are in direct sun during the day, and the tables on the side do not have shade until late afternoon. Also, I was a little disappointed with the drink selection. They had freshly squeezed lemonade which was a nice touch, but the soda selection was limited and worst of all, no Coke Zero (tastes almost exactly like regular Coke, but with zero calories). read more

If you're looking for something healthy and tasty, you've come to the right place! I've tried three of the salads they make, Santa Maria bbq, cilantro chicken and chef salad. Of the three, my favorite is probably the Santa Maria bbq with the chef salad coming in second and the cilantro chicken third. I usually get the dressing they recommend with the salad. The chipotle ranch gives the bbq salad a nice little kick to it. Each salad comes with a piece of bread that they bake there everyday. They also have sandwiches but I haven't tried one in awhile since I'm trying to eat a bit healthier. They do sound good though. I've been coming here for a while and their food is always good. My absolute fav that I almost always get is their Chimichuri Steak Sandwich. Sooo gooddd!! It comes with a side of salad. The salad dressing I don't really care for but you can ask for ranch instead. Or skip the salad and ask for a side of fruit instead. Was so disappointed to see the majority of the Romaine lettuce was brown and rotten. Very much so. Obviously so. It made me wonder how anyone making this salad wouldn't notice that. And, if they didn't notice brown rotten lettuce, what else weren't they noticing. This used to be my absolute favorite place to eat but I have noticed some changes. I don't get to come here often because I don't live near here so when I do pass by I crave the green chili sandwich. It was so warm and cheesy and creamy I would dream about it. But when I went last week I noticed it wasn't on the menu anymore. I was so sad I almost left. But I decided to try the So Cal sandwich which sounded similar. It wasn't. Why keep changing the menu? First they took away my favorite kale salad and now the sandwich? And the cookies. The persons reporting 1 star citing bad sealed individual lemonade, seriously? They [urbane cafe] has specified they removed the lemonade and reported it to the vendor. They have no control over this product. I can see how one might feel that it's their responsibility but the photo clearly shows the lemonade in a individual sale package meaning that urbane cafe merely carries the drink but the company of that drink would be responsible for the mold. I've been there twice in August 2014 and will definitely go back for more items on the menu. I had the Caprese Salad the first time with no meat and it was quite tasty. On the second visit my wife had the Southwest Chicken and I had the So Cal chicken sandwich. We shared half of our sandwiches. I've never been so rudely talked to by employees at any restaurant. And yes that is including during COVID when we are all being put through the wringer. I was hoping to get simple answers to my simple questions, to make sure I was abiding by their COVID policy (I.e. not able to wait inside) or regular questions about something on their menu. This one employee remained rude throughout all of my two questions and when she did respond, she was ungracious and irritated. How was I to know a Baja enchilada was a soup? Unbelievable. I really love this place but I'm soooooo TIRED about mistakes. EVERY SINGLE TIME, I order for pick up I have to check my order just to make sure everything is fine. Sometimes when my son or my husband pick up the order is always something wrong OMG !! they forgot to put the dressings, or put dressings that doesn't anything to do with the salad. So when I called the 3rd time they made a mistake I was told that I have to come back to pick up the right dressing that I ordered. Not even saying I'm sorry, I'm not asking Free food!!!!
