Came here on a Monday afternoon because we were in the area and had just visited the Reagan Library, so we were looking for somewhere not too expensive to eat. It's located right next to a Target and parking was easy to comeby. The restaurant was very clean. Had a casual ambience similar to Panera or Corner Bakery Cafe. Right as we walked in and we were greeted by the cashier and she asked us if it was our first time. I said it was and she let us know about some specials they had. We finally ordered and she handed us one of those buzzers that go off when your order is ready. Food came out maybe within less than ten minutes of ordering. We brought the buzzer over to the window and grabbed our utensils right next to the soft drinks machine. I ended up ordering the So-Cal Sandwich, my sister the Portobello Mushroom, Mom the Hot Pastrami, and Dad the Roast Beef. All of our sandwiches came with a side salad that had a light dressing, as well as small slices of tangerines, and feta cheese. I normally don't like salads, but this was really tasty. Perfect amount of dressing, and the tangerines added a nice tang to the flavor. For each of the sandwiches, they were cut into half. The bread was delicious. Definitely cooked to the perfect texture, in my opinion. It was neither over, nor undercooked. The dough was soft enough to chew without tiring, and had a slight crispiness. All of the sandwiches were pretty good, but I really enjoyed my So-Cal sandwich the most. Pepper jack cheese complemented the sandwich well, and the chicken was soft and tender. The avocados definitely made the sandwich more savory, and the chipotle aioli gave it a nice zest. I ended up feeling filled, but not too full afterwards. Overall, service was friendly, prices were very reasonable, food came quickly and was very tasty. Unfortunately, I would only come back to this location if I were in the area. It was an hour drive from where I live, and I generally don't come to this area. I did notice they are opening up many more locations, so hopefully they open one up near my place, soon! I am always so happy when new restaurants come to Simi Valley ...... especially THIS one. I love Urbane Cafe. Always healthy....always fresh....and always yummy. This one is no exception. Thank you Urbane for coming to my neck of the woods. Today, I ordered the Protein Salad and added grilled chicken to it. It has all kinds of wonderful things in the salad like toasted pecans, garbanzo beans, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, mushrooms, and it comes with a piece of their wonderful bread that they make from scratch right in front of you. The bread makes for truly delicious sandwiches, but I opted for one of their salads instead. I just love this place. Considering they just opened two days ago, I was super impressed with the fact that they seem to have already ironed out the normal opening restaurant kinks. The owner knows what he's doing, and he runs a tight ship. If you've never eaten at Urbane Café, do yourself a favor and go. One of the best things to hit Simi Valley. read more

Urbane used to be my favorite go to restaurant until they got rid of the caprese sandwich. I have tried a couple other things on the menu to try and find something comparable and they have all been blah. Most recently I tried the gourmet grilled cheese and it made me sick. The flavor combinations did not at all work together. It was actually terrible. I haven't been back since. That grilled cheese was enough to keep me away for good. Tonight was our first time at this location. We were on our way home from a week long vacation. We felt the need for some fresh, healthy vegetables. Our instant impression was, "Wow, it looks much cleaner here (than our usual Urbané Cafe location). The food was delicious - as usual. Most notably was how the manager handled our complaint: Our daughter found a couple hairs in her salad. I won't pontificate about Urbane Cafe. I just really, really like it. The menu is small, comprised of soups, salads, and sandwiches, which I also like. They make a handful of things and they make them well. I wish they had a few more vegetarian options, but the ones that they do have are tasty and satisfying. I also wish that Simi had more healthy, simple options to give this joint some stiff competition. The staff is crazy friendly. They give it an added personal touch by asking your name and addressing you by it while making small talk. They are also very clean and the employees are focused on work instead of socialising or whining about breaks. I've come here with three different people. Two were over the moon, and one was less than impressed (he got the special). It's a rare thing to mutually make O-faces while eating a sammy, but that's how you know it's good. It might not be as stellar for you, but the right ratio of cheese, aioli, avocado, and artichoke hits my sweet spot. The standouts for me are the kale and quinoa salad and "The Californian" (sandwich). Their bread is bomb. They make a side salad sing. Just writing this makes me want to drive across town. read more

Yelped this place while I was in the area for an orientation, and I'm glad this was one of the first places that popped up! Parking: Plenty of spaces in the lot. Service: Friendly when I ordered, when I picked up my food, and when they checked up on how our meal was going. Food: When you order you get a buzzer that will (quite suddenly) buzz when your order is ready to pick up. Ordered a So-cal Sandwich. Ooo dat bread, so fluffy. Especially liked the chipotle sauce. The salad that came with the sandwich was good too. Space: Clean, and a lot of wood. I like. First time visit - got the rosemary chicken sandwich - one of the best sandwiches i've had in a while - nice to see an option for flavorful & local food out here in the suburbs as a break from fast food chains. I decided to try this place for the first time last month and I've found myself placing online orders for lunch almost every other day. There's a different soup everyday but so far they've all been amazing. The fruit cups fruit is actually crunchy (I hate mushy fruit and this is never a problem). This place is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. I love stopping by during my lunch break. I got the Tuscan sandwich and it was delicious. Very flavorful and the veggies tasted fresh. It came with a small side salad which was also delicious - it came with some mixed greens, tangerine slices, and dressing on the side. I omitted the dairy from both the sandwich and the salad, which was not a problem. I also had their watermelon mint lemonade. It was perfect - light and refreshing, I would come back solely for this lemonade. One of my favorite healthy options for a quick bite to eat and I know I'll come back often. I contemplated giving 3 stars for an issue I had but the food deserves 4 stars so I won't dock 1 but just know that the cashiers are not as knowledgable about what's in the items and this could lead to someone getting sick from food borne allergens or gluten/dairy. I asked the cashier if a particular soup has milk in it and she said yes but I could tell she was uncertain so I asked again she said yes. Right before I ordered another employee came up to me with a binder of ingredients showing no milk. So clearly they are uneducated about ingredients and will lie if unsure. That scares me. The food however is really bomb and super fresh. In house roasted chicken and homemade bread stands out. Go but be careful if you have dietary needs. read more

Urbane used to be a restaurant in which one was greeted the second you walked through the doors. Service was exceptionally efficient but I'm afraid that it's been going down as of the last three times I've been there. Let me tell you about today's visit: As soon as I come in, an employee ALLLL way in the back greeted me and the "manager" approached over to the register and what usually goes "Hi! Welcome to urbane, how can I help you today!! :) ." I was greeted with a FANTASTIC "what do you guys want.." Food was ehh and if you're not having a good day at work do one of two things quit, or leave whatever is bothering you so your paying customers don't deal with an irritated employee. What a yummy place. It was our first visit and we're looking for a new place to eat away from the mass chain restaurants. This has a very Stone Fire type vibe. The food was great. I have been looking forward to this new cafe in town. Today I finally got to try it out. The decor was nice and simple. Wish they would have put in a booth or two, but they have all chairs and tables. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My husband ordered the soup and salad combo. Salad was their house mixed green salad. Soup of the day was Broccoli and Cheddar and Kale, Potato and Sausage. I ordered the So Cal Chicken sandwich and added a bowl of soup. Both of the soups were piping hot, which I love. All soups should be served hot, not luke warm. The broccoli was al dente and the flavor was rich and creamy. The kale soup was made out of a vegetable or chicken broth with herbs, potatoes and sausage. Loved the flavor, it had a hint of kick to it. Maybe the sausage was spicy or smtg. I liked the sandwich but I didn't love it. Didn't love it because I felt it didn't have enough meat, it was mostly the fresh focaccia bread. It just didn't have enough chicken. But maybe that's just me. However, the chicken they use is hormone free and all natural, and it's baked in a fire oven? I think that's the way it's prepared because that's what I read all over the walls. From the few chicken I had in my sandwich, I could definitely taste the freshness and perfect seasoning. I would like to come back and try the beef sandwiches and their specialty salads. It's a fair price for fresh ingredients and clean environment. I hope they can add a soup and half sandwich option to their menu in the future. read more

I have been waiting for this place to open. I am glad to have this place in Simi and I do see POTENTIAL. I have been to urbane cafe in different locations and they all were the same as far as how the good is made and how it tastes. Which is a good thing. Consistency. But this place was not the same I felt like. The dining area is very nice and has a cool layout. The food was good but in the time I was in line ordering and picking up my order I did not once see them putting bread in the oven. Weird. The one in Ventura you can watch them putting the bread in as you order and it makes the meal so much better with nice fresh out of the oven bread. Little disappointed. The food was good. The sauces I felt were slightly off or maybe less than other locations. Overall I know they are new and they get some slack cut. I will be back. Hopefully with some warm bread and the same taste as I love in Ventura. read more
