I came here with a large wedding party. There were abo 10 of us who were wanting nails done- pretty stressful and they handled it pretty well. I'll give them that. I'm giving this place 1 star because I walked out of there with sore cut up fingers. During my manicure with Helen she cut into my skin with her cuticle trimmers on every finger. I looked away when I saw her wiping blood from my finger onto a towel after trimming back cuticles. My sister in law also got her nails done by the same lady. The lady cut one of her nails so short it bleed. I also asked for gel- gave the lady the gel nail polish and she treated it like normal polish? Would avoid this place if you could. read more

While in Portland I stopped by for a pedicure. I'm gonna give it a 4 star only because my two daughters loved this place. I on the other hand disliked it, I really should be rating this place lower. I paid $56 dollars for a half job pedicure and a nail trim. Let's start with my pedicure....no cuticles were cut only pushed up. My toenails were cut extremely short. Though the staff was very friendly, they are extremely short handed which in turn caused for a very long appointment. I went to this place to get shellac manicure which is supposed to be $40. I asked for a plain white manicure but she was insisting for me to get an ombré, so I decided to get that. As I had to pay, they told me, it's $55, and when I asked why, they said ombré costs more. Although, when I got there and asked how much it will be, they told me it's $40, so nobody told me that ombre will be more than a regular manicure for once, and second off, I would not have a problem with paying $15 more if it was worth it, but my nails look like an off-road trail with a bunch of weird bumps and each nail has a different shape. I will have to go spend another $50 just to redo them at another place. Well, at least I got my hands massaged. read more

I came here for the first time right before my wedding- they were EXTREMELY nice, and the salon seemed clean- and was easy to get to downtown. I went with my fiance and my best friend, and we all got manicures and pedicures. My pedicure was great, no complaints- my manicure (gel) was ok, but my first nail the person working clipped my cuticle too aggressively and it started to bleed/sting- and then she was worried about hurting me again so she didnt clip any of my other cuticles- my finger was red/inflamed for a couple days, but ended up being ok by the wedding (thankfully went a couple days before!). This is BY FAR the best pedicure I have ever received. My husband and I came in after a long day of walking around the city and got the VIP pedicures. Hot stones, paraffin wax, detox scrub and collagen mask...not to mention the incredible 20 minute massage. The massage chairs are great and she even gave me some champagne to drink. What a great salon. I'm in the area for work, and had a little extra time after a meeting. I called to see if they could fit me in for a french manicure, and they told me to head on over in 15mins. When I arrived, I was greeted with friendly smiles, and the manager asking what she could get me to drink. Not only were they friendly and accommodating, they also did a beautiful job on my nails. I came to Urbantopia to celebrate my sisters birthday with a mani pedi. I chose Urbantopia because it's prices looked relatively decent, but it's reviews were amazing. However, my experience was disappointing. Nothing was really wrong, but when I see almost 5 star reviews, I'm expecting something amazing. I made appointments in advance for mani pedis and I wanted to do a dip manicure (something offered on their menu). However when I got there they only had 6 dip colors. They were accommodating for me here and were able to do a dip base with the shellac color I wanted, so I appreciated that, though I felt like the girl who did my manicure resented me for that even though they were the ones who suggested it. Also the actual manicure is not the best I've had aesthetically--just fine. What I was disappointed by was that our manicures didn't have a hand or shoulder massage and they didn't even soak my hands in water which was weird. It just felt like they were cutting corners and giving a less than premium experience for a place so highly reviewed. Then when I went to pay for dip & a regular pedicure it was $80-$35/pedicure which was insane because we got extremely regular pedicures. I've never paid that much for a plain pedicure. Also they cut way too close to my cuticle on one toe causing the toe to bleed. This place was fine-- but not 5 stars. read more

We made an appointment today and they got us in at the time we wanted which was great! When we sat down in the chairs, the water was cold. I let them know and they toggled the nozzles, but it was still not at all warm. My pedicure lasted about 25 minutes. I got the standard pedicure. It was not good. The woman rushed, she forgot about the hot towel, then put it on and forgot to clean my toes because she'd already put on the toe separators. I have at least 4 toes that are sharp and irregular. This is literally what I'm paying for - so that I don't have to cut my toes. And they can't even do that. I shouldn't have to check to make sure they're not sharp, but here we are with cold water, rushed service, and sharp toes. I've been there probably 4 times - this was my first pedicure and it was worthless. I won't go back. read more

Came here while on a short trip to PDX and I needed a pedicure. It was within 5 minutes walking distance from our hotel. The prices are reasonable for the services offered. Myself and my partner went in as walk-ins and we were both able to get seated within minutes. Very friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere. Customer services was that from a nightmare. Went in for an acrylic fill only for the nail tech to look disgusted at my nails saying my real nails were too long. Embarrassed, I was talked into getting a new set. She did a dip for the base and topped it with gel as the finish.( I was told by another nail tech a few days later this was not a combo to ever do since it doesn't give the acrylic nail much support and can easily break.) I left the apt upset since she has filed my nails a lot shorter than I had asked and told me it was considered "long". Less than a week later one of my acrylic nails breaks. I was in shock since this has never happened to me before at any point in time. I went to another salon that day to get it fixed since I didn't trust Urbantopia with my nails. The nail tech told me to never go back. The process Urbantopia did on my nails was not professional and the nail tech fixing my nails asked if they had their license. I wasn't sure and should have asked before spending 70 dollars getting a new set from someone who clearly didn't know what they were doing. Next day- another nails breaks. I am beyond frustrated at this point. I have spent 80 dollars at this point only for another nail to break. I go in for my refund only for them to offer to fix my nails. I said no. I am not going to continue to come back in as the rest of my nails break. I asked for my full refund which was 60 ( I didn't include my 10 dollar tip) they said they wouldn't give the full refund since it took them time to do my nails. They begrudgingly only gave my 30 dollars back in cash. Not only did they waste my money on a new set of nails I have to completely get redone but also my money. Will NEVER be returning and I suggest you support another business who knows what they are doing with your nails. read more

I recently stopped by this salon for a dip manicure. The woman who greeted me stated that the technician was not available to do dip but that they could do gel instead to which I agreed. The woman was unfamiliar with the removal of dip nails and attempted to pull off the dip attached to my natural nails. I explained that acetone is generally used to remove dip powder. She responded that acetone is bad for your nails (but yanking them off is not?). At this point I should have left as shortly thereafter, she pulled the dip off one of my nails so hard that my natural nail broke off. After I complained, she called the technician, who advised her on what to do, as she returned with foil, cotton, and acetone. I do not understand why she did not just turn me away if she did not know what to do rather than cause pain and damage to my nails. read more

Place was super clean and cute, and they were able to take me quickly as a walk-in. The young lady working on my gel polish manicure was very pleasant and shaped my nails better than I thought. I thought it was fine, but quite pricey. I wasn't overwhelmed with the service, though it's rare to find a place that will give a really great manicure when you're doing gel polish, at least in my experiences. I had a top-notch experience at this spa. I walked in for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. They did an amazing job with my nails. I was impressed that the salon attendants took their time and paid great attention to detail. By the time they were done with my manicure and pedicure, I was so pleased with the service that I decided to wax my arms too. Cecilia was very gentle and waxed my arms efficiently. Just got a full body massage and pedicure. Let me just tell you, it was INCREDIBLE. By far the best massage I've ever had. It was so good, I cried a little bit. (Pro Tip: don't wear makeup, as she massages your face, but I honestly didn't even mind walking out of there looking like a mess. It was that good.) The only downside is that you can hear the salon happenings in the room, but not that big of a deal. I was still able to focus on relaxing and enjoying the massage. Might be a problem if you get a group of giggly friends in or something. The pedicure was fabulous too. Just what I needed after walking around the city all week. Tracy and Catherine are awesome and this welcoming little salon is now my first choice for manis and pedis. Urbantopia Spa is run by the women who do the work. These two sassy ladies opened the shop a little over 6 months ago with another friend, and they've been dolling out the good stuff ever since. Said good stuff also comes with free wine and wifi, two of my very favorite things. Moreover, my pedi was excellent. Sure, it was a bit more expensive than the walk-ins along NW 21st ($30 bones), but the quality of the shop, the products, the staff, and the service itself were all top notch and well worth the extra cash in my book. read more
