I dropped in earlier this evening after spending several hours studying next door at Starbucks. I was excited to try this new spot as I have watched the construction/rejuvenation of the space. The host was nice and helpful. I ordered a panini that comes with a side salad from him and was directed to the side of the counter to pay. The cashier read back what I ordered. But the dressing substitution was incorrect so I tried to get it corrected. After about 4 tries I should have taken this as a sign. But we got it worked out. I was directed to the other end of the counter to wait and I pulled out my phone to work on homework. I was pleasantly surprised how quick my food came out and continued home to keep working. Well I got home pulled out what I expected to be a super yummy $15 panini and it was only a side salad and a hunk of bread! I am pissed and hungry. Yes I was distracted and didn't check the bag but for $15 and not being busy I would expect the expo to make sure that everything is right. So I am now making a tuna fish sandwich because I do not have time to try and go back for them. read more

I will start off by saying I love Urth's baked good and their tea lattes. Great quality, the tea is always delicious, and large servings for the price. But I was here this past Sunday, the line was super long, and I think they can make it easier for people who want a drink/baked good to go. I know they have an online order system to help with that, which I used, but I should be able to walk in, and order to go quickly. I placed an order for 2 tea lattes and I had to wait 45 minutes for both of those. That is ridiculous. I have no desire to come back and wait that long for 2 drinks. I get that it's busy Sunday morning for dine in, but there's no excuse for having to wait that long for tea. They need to get a better system for their patrons that want drinks to go since I ordered online and still had to wait so long for a couple drinks. read more

My wife and I went to an open house event the day before opening to the public. On that evening the wait staff visited all the tables with a selection of sample sized items. I'm not a regular coffee drinker and to my taste the coffee was strong but to be fair, I'm not the target audience. All the paninis and baked goods we sampled were excellent to fantastic! Converting the building took like three years but the end result is outstanding. The interior is warm and welcoming, full of natural light and the seating is comfortable. To be honest, close parking is rarely available but the Orange Plaza area is a safe and fun place to walk. Overall 5 stars and a great addition to the cities downtown dining options. read more

As I slowly started to hate driving in traffic and refused to do any business in LA, I started to miss my favorite spot. Then, they opened in Laguna. So much closer, but oh the traffic again! Though it is better when the weather is cold. And it is better than a drive up the 5. Now, finally, they're in Orange and the parking sucks. Just can't win with you, Urth! But they deserve 5 stars for everything else. The coffee, Spanish latte, is my indulgence from the normal unsweetened lattes I usually get - but so worth it! Their salads are amazing and this coming from someone who believes nobody should ever pay for a salad. Finally, another indulgence when they have it is the sweet potato cake. It's just right without feeling too heavy. Now that I think about, thank goodness the parking situation is bad or else I'd be here too often. read more

When I heard about Urth coming to Orange, I was extremely excited. I used to make the drive to DTLA for a coffee fix, ridiculous, but true. I would even DoorDash coffee to my office in Aliso to satisfy my cravings! So to hear that Orange is close to home just brings me so much happiness. At first the service was a bit off and slow when they first opened. You could tell it was all something new and they didn't have the logistic down, but now it's quick and pleasant. I used to wait 30 minutes for a coffee, but I found calling in my to-go order made it so much quicker. The Spanish Latte iced or hot is a must try here. I also enjoy their Lox Pizza, it's smoked salmon on a flatbread with a creamy sauce that's flavorful and chili oil with other garnishes. Their avocado toast is also a plus, fully loaded with all the right toppings. As for the service, Darlene K is my favorite barista. She greets me the moment I am standing around the pick up area and updates me with where my phone order stands. I've also watch her greet others as she's making drinks. Often times you'll see customers checking in on their order and Darlene will insist that she brings the drinks to the table for guests rather than the customer carrying a tray. The food/service is amazing if you eat in the restaurant. The urth salad is my go to as well as they d' lox pizza. However, I called for take out and I was really disappointed this time. The order was apparently ready at the far side of the bar but the girl making coffee at the front said they'd call my name. So we waited at least 15-20 min before I had to go check in and it was sitting ready for us. When I got home my salad was very small...smaller than the dine-in size. And there was no dressing on it with none on the side. Had to use dressing at home which really ruined the salad. My sister also realized the sauce that comes with the pot roast sandwich was not packaged. The sandwich was also cold since we waited for our name to be called for so long. All in all I still love this place but they need some work...wouldn't recommend making a take out order till the staff has had time to train. read more

This place has a great location. Place is crowded. Line is long but they have a employee taking orders thru line. I ordered monkey granita, honey vanilla milk latte, & mocha Cafe granita. So all drinks super sweet. Monkey one was not a good choice. It was grainy bits of texture we left trailing behind my throat. With slight banana taste Hmm? Very earthy coffee taste and texture ( no pun intended) will not order coffee here again. Maybe a hot? Since these were cold. Let's do dessert ok we ordered blueberry cheesecake, coconut cake & Expresso sconce. They forgot our cake we had to ask for it. Sconce bit dry. Blueberry cheesecake was great . Smooth texture with the fresh berry sweetness. Coco cake bit dry crumbly texture. Not sure if it's from fridge but defrosted? Not to sure about this place.. Will try it again .. But atmosphere is great by the fountain. EXCUSE THIS 2ND PART..SORRY SO LONG...Here we go, As I posted this review. I then had the Manager Eduardo greet me at my table and ask about this low review. He asked What my concerns & comments on this visit. I explained myself and he politel offered to refund my $ I declined but he said my experience wasn't satisfying so he refunded my$ for this visit and asked to give them a 2nd chance. I complied as I said earlier in this review I would return to try hot coffee. Overall impressed with his mannerisms on behalf of this position of this restaurant. My wife and I usually enjoy going to Urth caffe. However lately the Orange location wasn't as great as we expected. My wife got a drink with no boba and they placed boba. When they remade the drink it tasted like a tasteless drink. As if they just took out the boba and put more ice. Didn't even make her fresh one to enjoy. I'm not sure if this would be a place we would recommend to friends. Everyone should enjoy their meal. read more

I like Urth Cafe, but I would definitely limit coming here for either breakfast/brunch or dessert. The lunch/dinner foods on their menu just doesn't hit the same. I came for dinner and felt that the food was mediocre. I've been to one of the LA locations for brunch and was much more satisfied. My turkey burger, the meat itself was more like a meatloaf than a patty & the Greek salad is way over priced for the amount of salad you get. However some of the more positive aspects are that it really does have a nice ambiance inside. It definitely matches the whole Orange Old Town vibes which is cool. They offer indoor seating and outdoor seating which is cool. There are even some areas that are ideal for larger parties if you were to do a large gathering although you order first then eat so seating is first come first serve; I don't think they do reservations. At one point our food was taking a very long time to arrive & although there aren't waiters in the traditional sense, one of the ladies came by and inquired about our order and went to check on it for us. As soon as she came back from checking our food came to our table, so if I were rating just on customer service alone I would give it a full 5 stars. Overall, I personally prefer the LA locations better, but I'm still glad I visited this location. read more

I personally did not like my food ad much as I hoped I would but, I think this was mainly due to the fact that the artichoke hearts in my Urth Salad were a bit bitter and overwhelming. I would prefer there to be more fruit and/or tomatoes. There were only three tomatoes in the salad I ordered. I have yet to try the paninis but I imagine they would be good and same goes for the pastries. Urth cafe has a really good atmosphere though and is a cute place for a date or to eat at in general. read more

I was so excited to find out they were opening an Urth in Orange! My friend and I went there on a Saturday afternoon and surprisingly, there were only 7-8 people in line. They have this system where someone takes your order while you're standing in line and you pay when you get to the front. I thought it'd be a lot faster this way but it took us a little over 45 minutes to get to the front. Sadly, this location isn't as good as the others. I've been to every other Urth Caffé but this is the only one in which the green tea boba is more of a dark forest green color and isn't creamy at all. They also didn't blend it right so it was very gritty and powdery. After drinking about a quarter of it, I found some brown residue stuck on the inside of the cup that I could scratch off with my nail. Hopefully with time, they get it down. I'll probably give it another chance in a few months. read more

So, I've been very excited about this place finally opening up in orange. I have been to their Los Angeles and Santa Monica locations. After much fanfare, this place is finally open! However, the lines are her Renda's. All of the stems from them having three registers for a long line of customers. They could've certainly thought about doing a better job of mitigating the lines. There was someone coming around to take orders, but she would take them from every few people rather than all the people standing in line. Didn't exactly make sense why she was doing this. I'm sure they've thought about the problem long and hard, maybe/certainly more than me. But it doesn't change the fact that you're waiting in line for 30-40 minutes before even putting your order in, followed by having to wait even more until your food arrives. On the plus side, there's plenty of seating, both downstairs, upstairs, as well as some tables on the outside. Their food is good. I had a ice soy Spanish latte along with the chocolate pistachio croissant, and a couple of my friends had sandwiches. Everyone was pretty satisfied with the food. Now, if this place could even improve their wait time by 50%, it would be much more enjoyable and would receive a better rating. Until then, I will actively avoid this place when it's busy read more

I absolutely love this cafe! The food and atmosphere is wonderful. Most of the employees are great. It's unfortunate that the last two visits here I have had not a great experience at the counter. I hate to have to make a person but this was the second time that I had to place my order with Guillermo. I placed an order for avocado toast with a poached egg. I wanted to also purchase a half size mixed green salad. But I wanted to see if I could do the side salad as the one with the fresh strawberries that the eggs Benedict comes with. Was ok paying any kind of up charge. If I can't do that that is perfectly fine but this employee is difficult to communicate with and very short and rude with his customer service responses. Edit: when I received my mixed green salad plate it was the salad I wanted but the employee didn't even know the menu. This bad review could of been avoided. read more

Very tasty food with lots of choices. This is the only reason they get two stars. I just got my meal after ring in.line for an hour. Most of that time was spent getting to the register. I placed my order 35 minutes earlier at the door. Why so long to wait for a cashier? There are plenty of open seats and lots of staff but the cashier process is too slow. Sorry, but I won't be back until this is corrected. It's a shame because the food is great and the building remodeling is fabulous for Orange Plaza area. A couple other issues. Asked for a cup of dark roast coffee. They only had mild roast. Really? A caffe? Really? Finally, my food arrived but it was the wrong order. I thought about just keeping it but decided I had waited an hour. I want what I ordered. It was the caprese sandwich. They brought it out but it was the caprese paninni sandwich not the other. Screw it! I ate it. I had waited long enough. I hope things are improved quickly. They deserve better and so do,the patrons. read more

"It's another Urth Caffe" I exclaimed in an excited tone as they began building it. Now I'm not a huge fan of Urth or anything. Don't get me wrong, pastries are great and the coffee is good but I worked in LA for a long time and I ate there so much that I got tired of it. I think my excitement was related to the fact that it is a familiar restaurant from my past. Well it's definitely the same Urth. Same good food and coffee from their LA locations. So why the 3 stars you ask. Well it's because THEY ARE SOOOO SLOW. I mean seriously slow. Like make you half an hour late to work slow. Like I could eat 3 delicious pastries in the time it takes to make me a latte slow. So if you have time you should go. If you don't there are literally 7 other places within a block to grab a pastry and a coffee that are way faster and just as good. read more

I'm waiting for my food to arrive, but already I am not happy with this place. The pancakes are a little on the high side for pricing and to top it off, there is no menu or options for children during breakfast hours. Had to order a full order of there pancakes for my 4 year old. I will update after we receice our food. I would not recommend the breakfast burrito unless you add guacamole and some type of meat otherwise it is plain. Not seasoned at all. The pancakes however were pretty good and thats what uped my rating to a 2 star. Service itself is ok, but not very flexible when it comes to ordering food. I will come back again without the kids to try other items on the menu. The stuffed French toast looks good. read more

I tried Urth Cafe for the very first time yesterday and for the second time today. The food is absolutely amazing. I had the most amazing banana nut waffle and the iced coffee was absolutely to die for. I had an iced honey vanilla latte and it was the smoothest coffee I have ever had EVER. No doubt about it, the food is amazing. However, the lines in this place were almost unbearable. Yesterday, I waited in line for a good 25 mins or so. When I got to the front, the speakers were so loud just above the cashiers, that I could not hear her and she could not hear me. Why not turn those speakers there down so we don't have to scream at each other. Today, at my second visit, sandwiches we ordered were absolutely amazing. In order to avoid yesterdays debacle, I ordered online. Super easy and simple to do. However, when I got there, I waited another 20 mins for my order. There was one girl handling all the grub hub/ uber eats/ door dash and online orders. She was clearly overwhelmed and no longer gave an F about if people got their orders, because she was honestly over worked and underpaid and OVER WHELMED. She stopped looking for peoples orders and just started telling them it would be about 20 mins. She was so over it and I would have been over it too. Parking is hard in this area, so that is an added stress and the uber eats guys and myself with my online order, were desperate not to get parking tickets. Change a few things, seat the people eating there and let them order from their tables, taking a ton of people out of the everlasting line, take the speakers out so the ones in line are easily heard, and staff the place with more employees as you clearly do not have enough. I love Urth Cafe so far...but it was kinda sad to see the employees busting their asses because of poor planning. This can be an easy fix. read more

This place is a mixed bag. The good: they nailed the restoration of a beautiful, historic building and created a very tasteful, attractive atmosphere. The bad: all three times I've ordered simple coffee drinks, I've waited an inordinate amount of time, only to get up from my table, go to the counter and see my drink sitting there with other people's orders waiting to be served. The food and drinks took a little longer than normal. I completely understand since it's still fairly a new business. They are still figuring out a system.
