I think if you forgot to put your apartment number on the delivering address and it cannot be relieved, it is only fair that the post office waits at least 1 whole day before sending back to the sender. The tracking said it was delivered at 5:45 pm but if the post office is closed everyday at 5 pm. I was one of the fist costumers at the post office this morning but they told me that they already sent it back to the sender. A package I have been waiting for the past 2 weeks and I wasn't even given a chance to fix a mistake because the did not give me a day. Either have the post office open longer so people can come in and collect their package. Or have a package for a day because believe me the receiver is waiting for it because they did pay hella money. read more

I've never had a problem with the counter folks at the PO location, but the home delivery folks need better management or more help or SOMETHING! I continually get other folks' mail and I circle the name/address and leave it on my mailbox hoping that the letter carrier will deliver it to the right place. But it makes me wonder what mail of MINE goes to other folks who don't forward it on. And not having a delivery on our street (Sunnyside) because it was dark and the manager deemed it dangerous????? I've had to go in twice over the holiday experience. The first time was around 4:45 granted there were about 10 -15 people in line but its a post office what do you expect? The employees were all very pleasant and worked as fast as they could to get through the line. The second visit was on a saturday around 11am not much of a line. They only had a couple of people working the counter, which is fine since it wasnt super busy. The employees were great. The women in line who were rude and started complaining only after being in line for a couple of minutes not so much. These reviews crack me up. The people in mill valley need a lesson in common courtesy. Telling an employee they should lose their job because management understaffed is highly rude and uncalled for. Treat these employees with respect. If you want to complain an threaten to go to UPS just do it, don't taint everyone else's experience by voicing your opinion no one cares about. Ok, so yes, this post office has always always been understaffed, but that being said, I always get the right answers and the right packaging and the right employee who is super nice. I had a great experience there just recently and I thank them! I was at this MV Post Office on Saturday, July 19. I got there right when they were closing and there was a big line when they locked the door at closing time. It seemed like every person in front of me had a very complicated transaction and needed a lot of help figuring things out (including me), and the employees were all extremely professional and very nice, even with all the grumpy customers. I have been in this MV Post Office before, in line, when the customers in line have been loudly verbally insulting the employees, when it was all a "normal" experience of being somewhere crowded. On Saturday, the two people ahead of me in line both had very confusing packages to send and had prepared them incorrectly. One man needed an enormous amount of extra help. I needed a lot of extra help. I had wrapped my package in the wrong kind of tape -- I needed to use a special kind with wire mesh in it. They let me use their special tape, scissors, and sponge to wet about 5 feet of tape. I didn't have a complete address so they helped me with that. At this point, they had been "closed" for almost thirty minutes and were letting me and the man stay to finish our packages. Meanwhile, the people out in the lobby were needing help using the Self-Service machine and were pounding on the doors. The manager (?) was going out to the lobby to help them -- he was only there because we were holding him up. I was slow putting the tape on my package so they helped me. The man ahead of me had written the address so badly on his package no one could read it. The manager (?) told him to have a seat and as soon as he could finish closing he would write the address for him. It was so crazy that an additional employee came back to the counter to finish helping me. I didn't get out until 3:00, half an hour after closing, and the man was still inside unable to write his address by himself. Through all of this, the manager (?) and the two women behind the counter were amazingly kind and professional. I have often seen the customers in there being pretty openly mean, but I have never once seen one of the employees being anything other than professional. read more

Been trying to call all morning to see if they have a federal ducks stamps. Last time I went they had run out. No one will answer the phone. They will actually pick it up and then hang up. They could save me a wasted trip to the post office by telling me if they have the stamps in stock. read more

There really seems to be something wrong with the whole operation. I've attempted to use mail forwarding service when on an extended out-of-state assignment only to find that the MV PO failed to send the information to the Sacramento facility that redirects mail. So when mail came into MV they sent it to Sacramento and Sacramento returned it to the senders. Took months to clean up the mess with financial institutions and others who fell victim. When I filed an online complaint I received a call from the assistant postmaster who proceeded to read me the riot act, told me sxxt happens and to live with it. I've had inordinate amounts of mail misdelivered to my mailbox, and mine has gone to neighbors. That includes financial statements that they opened by mistake. Two weeks ago I got a jury duty summons... but it was for a neighbor, not me. Every time I use the vacation hold service I have to ask a neighbor to check my mailbox and it is always stuffed to capacity. I also agree with other reviewers on the language barrier issue; it's a problem. Budget cuts probably add to the problem but my Massachusetts post office still manages to do an exemplary job. read more

I'm in So Cal and tried to ship a gift to someone who is literally like, 10 min from this post office. Messing up this package is like a restaurant messing up a salad. WTH. So, now my sister in law has to go find the gift I sent her or see if they sent it back down here. They claim the address wasn't deliverable but, I'm 100% sure I wrote the address correctly. This post office is one of the worst ones I have ever been to. I know the postal service is so badly organized that they are losing money, but how are they expected to improve with such poor service. It's a business and to keep a business going you have to do well at what it is you do!!! My last experience has sent me over the edge. I waited 10 minutes in line, which I don't mind. There were about 10 or so people waiting in line with one clerk for regular customers and one clerk for business customers, who was only serving business customers and no one else. Some people came for a passport appointment so the one clerk serving the regular customers left her counter to work with them behind closed doors!! There was no one left to serve the 10 or so regular customers. After a few minutes, I asked to lady serving the business only customers if there would be anyone coming out to serve us and she "yes", but in 10 minutes!!! Unbelievable!! read more

I've had a PO box at the Mill Valley PO for 25 years. The folks are really sweet. The problems with understaffing is not their fault and the rote asking about other services they sell is mandated by the central office. The MVPO is open on Saturdays until 2:30 and open weekdays until 6:30 plus they have one of those great APC machines so between the APC and my Business Line card, I rarely have to wait long. This post office makes the DMV look efficient and friendly (sic)...in fact it is the slowest, most apathetic operation, ever. Somehow, all of the clerks are Asian, not that it matters...but it is odd to say the least. Of those clerks, only the guy is helpful or friendly. The women constantly say that whatever is requested cannot be done, and they really could care less. Recently, my PO box fee notice was locked inside the box, with the key blocked. The box was then re-keyed and I was charged $40 in late fees and lock change charges, eventhough I never even received the fee notice! It is time to privatize the post office. Industry could probably figure out how to do the same thing, at a profit, maybe through bank branches or some other widely dispersed outlet. This is a money losing mess. I have been doing business with the MIll Valley post office since 2006 and they are FANTASTIC. Yes there are long lines. Probably because they are the best and most professional in the area and people come here just for that reason. That is why i sometimes come here from 25 mins away. They all know my name( and I know theirs) what my preferences are, and are efficient and professional. And yes- as alot of other people have complained about the " script " they give you ( would you like to send that priority, do you want insurance, etc etc.) IS a pain... well it is not their fault. I don't particularly like it, but I resigned myself to it; I even cheerfully put up with the promotional script questions when the clerks try to up-sell me on extras like getting insurance for my package, buying stamps, or getting shipping materials for next time. This bunch of Retarded buffoons have destroyed any vestige of faith I once had in humanity. I have been a very active Amazon customer for around 6 years. In that time I have rarely if ever failed to get my packages, and I've had about 2500 packages delivered to my house. Since they started using the United States Postal Service headquartered in this office, I receive maybe one in 3 packages, I shit you not. I am constantly calling Amazon for a refund, and when the packages do come it can take anywhere from 2 days ( Prime agreement ) to 3 weeks. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's 6 lbs or 6 oz. it's always a crap shoot, all-though I will say if it's over 20 lbs they will flat out refuse to actually deliver it, as it's 'too heavy' I've actually been at my house looking at the welcome mat in front of my door, when I've received notification, that my packages was just delivered. Guess what, Mail lady is no where to be seen, and I never received that package either. a year an a half ago, My father on the east coast mailed me a box of Channukah gifts. I waited and waited, He kept asking me if I got it. 2 and a half weeks go by, I call the Post office. Lines busy. BTW I've never talked to anyone at this post office on the phone, because it's been busy for at least the last year and a half. (Perpetually off the hook I guess.) In fact I just called out of curiosity, even though they're currently closed, guess what, BUSY. Try it 415 388 0630. See? But anyway back to the Channukah story. So finally I go down, 3 weeks since my pop sent the package, I give them the tracking info, and after 45 minutes of bumbling around they tell me they left a notice on my door, and since I didn't claim it they sent it back. Completely incompetent, 6 days running missdelivered mail, despite calls every day, NEVER answer the phone.

Two weeks ago, I drove to the post office to mail my taxes, a small packet of goodies to my friend in Georgia for her birthday, and a letter with a small check to my daughter to brighten her day. I used the self service postage center, methodically attempting to answer the multitude of questions you now need to know before mailing even the slightest variation on a standard envelope. Is it rigid? Is it more than 1/4 inch in any one place? What are the exact measurements in every direction? I get the questions about being flammable or fragile but why does it matter if it's 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch thick if they already know what it weighs and what size in inches the stupid envelope is? They happened to be chocolate covered cacao nibs, so if they slid, they might be 1/4 of an inch...or flat out, not. The machine gave me an amount based on the questions asked; I bought the stamp and mailed it. Two days later, it was returned to me for an additional 97 cents! I took it to work and THEY put it on their machine, also getting the amount I had first put on! So back to the PO I had to go to put the additional postage on it (making it late for her birthday). A week went by, and my daughter had still not received her envelope/check. We're talking southern CA! I called the bank and said I was worried the check was stolen; they said I could stop payment, but for a $20 check? Hardly worth it, right? I worried someone was going to use it for identity theft, and then 10 days after mailing it, IT ended up in my mailbox saying "insufficient address". Mind you, it had her full name, her full street address (#+street+drive), San Diego, and the correct zip code. I printed out the block from google maps and brought it all back to the post office. They had no idea why it didn't get there! So I'm trying it again, but REALLY??????????? 4 trips to the post office to get 5.6 oz. and 1/2 an oz. sent? This is pathetic! read more

I dread going to this post office. I've never seen employees so disinterested in their jobs and so disdainful toward customers - not ever the DMV compares. Often they wander off into the back without explanation as the customers wait and wonder if they are ever coming back. It is not uncommon for several employees to come out from the back one at a time and look blankly at the long line of customers with only one counter open, and then wordlessly go into the back again. They remind me of the deer in my yard. When you finally make it to the counter, they barely acknowledge you as they robotically list your choices. I don't know how they pull it off, but they manage to be both listless and aggressively rude at the same time. The stamp vending machine in the lobby has more humanity than the staff. read more

I do like this place, but since my mail hasn't been delivered in three days, as my street is blocked by construction, I was hoping to make a phone call, which since they don't answer the phone, I have time to write this review. They are understaffed and try really hard. They are profesional. They are saddled by this strange rule of the job requirement by their bosses, to say after each transaction, a long line of upsell and other things the post office sells. They hate it. We hate to listen to it. But don't take it out on them. There is always a long line, because, if you just needed to mail a letter, you can do it yourself, by putting a stamp on it, so by definition, every person in line has a complex transaction. The customers in line can be very, very rude. I have heard them yelling at the people behind the counter, a numbr of times. But, the people at the counter have a long, complex job to do, and are always understaffed. They really try. I would give them at least 3 or even four stars, if in fact, I could have someone answer the phone and tell me where my mail is. Was it stolen? I don't know. I am sure the construction stops the mail truck from getting up the street. But, now I have to walk out to my car a blcok away, and go wait in this perpetual line everyone on Yelp is complaining about and ask them "Wheere is my mail?". Do I expect it to be there? Not really. My hopes for getting a lot of things done today, have evaporated in a search for something I have learned to expect-their good service, for 44 cents, getting up early in the morning, putting on a uniform, and hand delivering all my mail to my post box in front of my house, every day. I generally write reviews when service is outstanding and have never posted a negative review. This is my first because there is a consistent, habitual pattern of egregiously poor service at this post office in Mill Valley. This has to be the worst post office ever and if I could give a zero I would. Year after year it is always something. This week I am just not receiving mail. This has happened before and when I made contact with my mail carrier in the past, I was told he was off and the person covering his route didn't deliver my mail. What? So, this time I tried calling to see why I am not getting any mail. The line rings busy - over and over again. So frustrating! At the post office, the lines are ALWAYS insanely long even during low peak, non-holiday times. They open one or two counters, the line builds, they close one counter. So frustrating! Another recent occasion I tried three time to retrieve a certified letter. I got the pink slip in my mailbox, it had the hours posted when I could pick it up at the post office. Every time I went down to get it, I was told the mail carrier had it on his truck and he wasn't back yet. This went on for days. Again so frustrating! I honestly can't think of any positive experience I have had over the last 10 years at this post office. Tip: If you need regular counter service go to the Sausalito Post Office. Been twice (during holiday season) and maybe I was just lucky but no line whatsoever. read more

USPS are ment to help the customer keep them happy and help with their needs. But none of that gets done here. The staff are rude and not willing to help. I don't care if you get paid minimum wage you can still do your job correctly. The mail guy is hopeless and lazy he doest even bother to deliver our packages he just "writes a note with some bs excuse on it" or he doesn't even leave a note or the package he just drives off we have even seen him do this, its not that hard to bring a package someones door or put it in the mail box. I try to avoid going into the Post Office, service is slow and at times the employees are not very friendly, but delivery service sucks, mail for my apartment building is delivered after 6pm, I get other peoples mail and I'm sure they are getting mine since I have found my checks sitting on top on the mail box. If the post office is short handed they need to hire more people and forget calling there is never an answer and if they do happen to answer the hang up on you. read more
