Very unassuming place and not fancy whatsoever. There are plenty of warnings about trying any spice level over mild+. I'm not a spicy food person so I always opt for mild. I've had mild+ and some times it is a bit too spicy. Their pad Thai and garlic chicken are especially delicious. My husband always gets the medium spice level and they always check to see if he's had their medium before. He says it's usually a good spice level but it can get a little much. But getting a Thai iced tea will help cool down the spice level. The food usually comes out pretty quickly and there wasn't a wait at 7:30 on a Friday night. There's no parking lot but there's plenty of street parking. read more

I will even use a whole bottle of Tapatio on a breakfast burrito, but Thai Hot at this place is ridiculously hot! The heat is nearly bareable but is sooooooooo hot that you cannot taste any flavor except regret, and the next day you will have firehole... I have ordered 3 items Thai Hot and everytime I will spend more time and effort chewing on pepper seeds than wiping my nose. If you want super spicy and still flavorful then order the next lower heat from Thai Hot. Other than that this place is great! One of the best Thai places I've found around the Denver area. It's a cute little place with a cafe like feel. They warn you about their spice level if you try to order spicy--their version of medium for their Pad Thai is "hot" at other places. US Thai is by far my favorite thai and it's pretty close to my abode. So this frequently finds me craving some spicy deliciousness in the form of Pad thai, Pad See Iew, or Paneng Curry. It's all spicy and it's all delish. The gals that answer the phone for my usual take-out order are always super nice, but get straight to the point--which is getting my food order quick so that I can get it in my belly ASAP. Their noodle dishes are all really yummy and the curries that I've tried (Paneng and Jungle) have been spicy and full of meat and veggies every time. I once, also ordered the App sampler when ordering with a friend, and the satay, dumplings and wontons that came in that were all super yummy. It can get pretty loud in the restaurant itself which is why I tend to get my US Thai to go. That and, who doesn't like to be able to eat in your sweatpants and not be judged? (This is why take-out was invented in my opinion) I usually have a bunch left over after I've sufficiently burned my face off and stuffed my belly. After driving cross down to a Thai restaurant that happened to be closed on a Sunday, we decided to give US Thai a try since it is on our to-try-list. First of all, Edgewater is beautiful. Not to mention, free parking lot near by the restaurant, which is a definite plus. I was surprised as soon as I walked into the US Thai. The kitchen was right by the entrance, out in the open which makes the restaurant smells like food (getting my appetite up). We ordered tom-kha chicken, and pla-rad-prik. Tom-kha chicken was delicious eventhough It bothered me to see onion in the dish. Pla-rad-prik, on the other hand, was a disappointment. It was overly sweet, the fish came in the form of fillet fish, not the whole fish, like I am used to or to be more accurate like how it is done in Thailand. The sauce tasted like store bought bottled sauce. I am surprised with all the positive reviews on yelp. With all the fuss over US Thai I had to check it out. I'm very glad I did. Their Panang curry was the best I've ever had, and their Garlic delight was also a treat. I give it an extra start because their hot was actually hot, though it seemed a bit inconsistent based on the dish ordered. I can't wait to get takeout here again, but I'm positive that I will never dine-in again. Some places have crappy ambiance, but you get over it because the food makes up for it. Lunch on Friday was crazy. So loud that we had to shout at one another to make conversation, we finally ended up awkwardly staring at the menu and sipping water because the yelling wasn't worth it. While they were undeniably busy, service was so disappointing. My dad was served a teapot and sweetener, but no cup! After reading the reviews and seeing a thread where numerous people named this place as the spiciest restaurant in Denver, I couldn't wait to come here. Anyone that knows me knows I am a masochist when it comes to heat level. If I am not red faced, coughing, with tears running down my face it is not a good meal for me. Ever put a big spoonful of wasabi in your mouth? Yeah, its gotta be like that. And after reading the reviews I thought "either the fine people of Denver are the biggest woosies on the planet or this place isnt playing around." So I order my green curry Thai Hot as the other Yelpers recommended. And it was hot. Not mind bending hot where I was wishing for a quick death to come and relieve the pain, but a nice, slow sear that allowed for all the other flavours of the dish to come through. Nice. Even if you were to order it mild it would still be lovely, creamy and fresh. We also had an appetizer of the chicken satay, which came with an awesome peanut sauce. So, I move from Bangkok searching for decent Thai food, and *everyone* tells me "have you tried US Thai?!" Possibly my expectations were too high. A: If I can't see a picture of the King from where I'm sitting, this is not a good sign. B: When I greet the server IN THAI and she shrugs, this IS a good sign... they've got the indifferent Thai service vibe going on, so possibly the food will be good. C: When I order LARB, and get YAM NEUA, and they pretend like it's "same same," fuck them. It isn't. D: When My Lovely Dining Companion orders pad thai, and it comes without the four traditional condiments, which I get up to ask for, TWICE, but they only have two ... oh, Denver hipsters, you have been deceived. I do like this place, and bang for the buck, it's decent most of the time. Before coming here, I heard that their medium is like others' hot. I am finding that this varies by dish and by visit. Overall quality is average, good considering the price. I've had about half of their menu, my favorite is easily the tom kha gai , a soup made with coconut milk, lemon grass, and chicken. Other than that, nothing has really stood out to me, most dishes tasting pretty much like all the others. I will say this, they need a vestibule and a ventilation system in the kitchen. They continually leave the door wide open in winter time, freezing out a good portion of the clientele. If you close it yourself, tell them that it's too cold, they smile, and just open it back up 2 minutes later. read more

Had fairly terrible food here twice. Food was meh at best. Got the shrimp pad thai both times (I suppose I'm a glutton for punishment). Ingredients weren't fresh. Food looked and tasted like it had been sitting. Seemed more like something I could throw together from a box. Service was rather disinterested. Ambiance is laughably bad. The furnishings, flatware and dishes all look as though they came straight from the basement bingo hall in a church. Not sure how this place gets the champ marks it gets. Well we gave this place another go. My friend ordered the Pad Eggplant, mild - and I ordered the Jungle Curry, medium. I thought for sure the heat last time had to be a mistake. It wasn't. My friend took one bite of her food and tears ran out of her eyes and she started to cough. The waiter (who did not speak English very well) took it back to the kitchen and had them remake it. My curry was so hot I barely got through half of it. Then the waitress came over and said "you should only order mild curry since it is already spicy" thanks for the 411 eight dollars later. I had my back to the kitchen but my friend said later in a posting on facebook: "It was quite amazing to watch your face as you steamed more and more with every intake of spice. I think those cooks did it to us on purpose. You couldn't see them, but I could, and they thought it was really funny that we couldn't take the heat." YES. Best Thai food in Denver, and that is not a compliment I make lightly. The massaman is the stuff dreams are made of, the dumplings are delicious little nuggets of heaven, the ingredients are always fresh and the serving sizes are plentiful. The rest of the reviews are correct in stating that the spice levels are insane--I usually get medium plus but have to downgrade to mild plus here, and I like it spicy. I will however disagree with other reviewers who say the ambiance is lacking. It's a hole in the wall, incredibly cheap Thai joint. The atmosphere is cozy, small, cute, no frills, and BUSY. If you want a fancy Thai place, you're welcome to go somewhere else for food that's half as good and twice as expensive. Long live US Thai!!! read more

This is probably my favorite restaurant for Thai food; it reminds me a lot of my roommate in college "Thai home cooking". US Thai is conveniently located in front of Sloan's lake, and next to a public parking! Their décor is very simple, very hole in the wall feeling, quite clean and full of windows. The kitchen is open, and you can see them making your food, the smell fortunately doesn't get infused into your clothing, always a plus, especially when it snows and you'll leave with no extra smells in your coat... Food wise is very good! Since he had a nice size party, we had the chance of devouring some dishes... Appetizer: * Crab wontons: I would never order this at any restaurant, but since Kat had ordered, I gave a shot. I really don't remember about the filling, but the wonton was amazing, so crisp, yet so light! Would order that anytime just for the texture. Soups: * Toomyam and Toomkha: they were great, both soups served 6 of us. We had it medium hot and it was pretty hot, but really good. Noodles: * Pad Thai: what it stands out is the homemade Pad Thai sauce, remarkable taste of tamarinds, and the noodle is cooked perfectly and it was not clumpy at all. * Drunken Noodles: milder than a char kway tiao but very good, very similar to char kwai tiao. Our little uye - thai lunch was fantastic! What a great meal. Stacey is a vegetarian, so where possible we ordered the tofu version; the tofu was golden fried and delicious. Organizer Jenn admitted she's not very adventurous about food. We all agreed the best way to try new things is sharing family style. And so we feasted! Egg rolls, toom kha soup (unlike any tom kha or tom yum we'd tasted before, but good in its own right) , jungle curry, panang curry (I think we agreed it was the best panang we'd ever tasted), pineapple fried rice which we enjoyed greatly, and hot chicken wings which lived up to their excellent reputation. We ordered everything medium; the soup tasted quite spicy but got our mouths accustomed so the rest of the food was very pleasant. Jenn then surprised us by saying, "Let's get dessert!" Stuffed as we were, we shared mango sticky rice and Thai custard, both of which were excellent. Scott and Stacy had Thai iced tea which was not as sweet as expected but enjoyable, or at least necessary, since it certainly disappeared. We wisely requested a pitcher of water which was a little slow coming but definitely welcome; and we needed a refilled pitcher too, in addition to our all starting with a full glass of ice water. I really do not understand the reviews for US Thai. Both of our visits have been very disappointing. They are always busy and people clearly rave about their food, but I do not think I will ever return. As many other reviews discuss, their spiciness levels are ridiculous. My partner ordered Pad Thai with a spiciness level of hot. He can handle and likes a lot of spice but this dish was completely inedible. The noodles were coated with a thin sauce and a thick coating of chili flakes, leaving nothing but spiciness and no flavor. On our second visit, I ordered the Pad Kee Mao and it was simply disgusting. The sauce had a jelly-like consistency, which was highly unappealing and the veggies were nothing to write home about. The noodles were the biggest issue with the dish. They were congealed together in one big lump. Not only were they not completely cooked but it seemed like they had just been sitting in the bottom of a colander and formed into one nasty lump of icky noodles. I seriously cannot believe they would ever serve such a mess. The server did not inquire or care that I had taken exactly one bite and I am not one for conflict, so we just paid the bill and decided to never return. Our other meals - trying the soups, one curry dish, another noodle dish, and a few appetizers - were okay but certainly nowhere near the other ratings for this place on Yelp. General conclusion: way overrated with some major disappointments. read more

Aside from Khan Toke in SF, this is my favorite Thai. The decor certainly has a lot of improving to do but once your food comes, you don't care. I will warn, though, if you are not a chile head, go for the mild. All of the food is beautifully aromatic, but if you don't have a mouth for heat, you won't be able to fully enjoy the wonderful meal you are about to have. There are so very many dishes to try here and it is worth multiple trips to try the variety of curries, noodle dishes and house specialties. It's just a tiny place in Edgewater, but HUGE on quality and service. P.S. Do not get "hot" unless you were raised on spicy food. The name "US Thai" somehow suggests, to me, that this restaurant was christened by someone who speaks English as a second language, and that my friend, is a very good sign. I went for a cliché: pad thai with chicken (no shrimp). It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS with that certain vinegary spice to it only a handful of thai restaurants manage to pull off just right. Unfortunately, the thai steamed dumplings just didn't hold up. They were supposed to be pork, shrimp, bamboo shoot, cilantro, and onion, which sounds like pure bliss, but mostly they just tasted like bland meat with fragments of pasta melting around them: I could barely see any remnants of the starchy wrapper. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Lao Wang's dumplings, but my dog isn't, so she enjoyed one of them. But I forgive you, US Thai, because your noodles make me so very happy. I'll be back. This place is cray. Bright ass orange walls. Final Fantasy music. It also happens to be home to some of the best Thai food Denver has to offer. I had the Pad Thai with pork and chicken (Mild+ is the best if you want to be able to taste your food). All I can say is their precision in cooking isn't at all reflected in their decor, that's for sure. Also, their plates look small, but they're a decent serving size. Wow, seriously fantastic Thai! I haven't had this good since I was in Thailand. .. and if you like hot, or Thai hot ... then get the medium and ask for some extra of the hot seasoning on the side! The drunken noodles are really good, but honestly everything I have tried has been done expertly and authentically ... I highly recommend you try this place if you like spicy and or if you like authentic Thai food. But come early or order ahead because there is always a wait and they do a huge take out business. They have two rooms for eating in and an open kitchen concept into one of them.
