I came in looking to replace my ancient upright with a nicer canister vacuum. Got excellent service from the owner, Howard. He straightforwardly explained the differences between the models (which gelled with the research I had already done) without any pushiness or pressure. He assembled the vacuum for us in store and explained its features. He even threw in a free package of filter bags with purchase. When I walked in with my 10+ year old Dyson DC14 Animal that wasn't spinning or previously serviced, the technician diagnosed exactly what was wrong with it and the cost to repair it at $180, including a full reconditioning and disinfecting. With this model, the clutch and band connections from the brush to the motor wear out. At first I was a little sticker shook at the price, by considering a newer model is 350-450 and made in China with cheaper parts that would break down faster whereas my model was made in England with better parts, it was worth the cost. They disassembled it, cleaned everything, replaced all filters, Bands and brush, disinfected the tubes and canisters My dyson runs perfectly now and is back to dominating my rugs and carpets!! read more

THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS...AVOID AT ALL COST! Yesterday my mom and dad took their carpet cleaner to be looked at because it was no longer sucking water. The man that helped them said it would be $140 just too look at it and it's probably the motor. My parents said no thank you and that they would take the carpet cleaner to Tim their son in law to look at. The guy was very rude to my parents. Without even plugging it in he said it was the motor. How could he have possibly known it was the motor without even looking at it? He couldn't! My mom took it home and looked at it and realized there was a plastic part she forgot to put on the bottom of the cleaner. A simple fix! What a scam this place is saying it was the motor to an elderly couple just to take their money. I would avoid this place at all costs. This is not a place I would reccomend to anyone! read more

Seniors beware! Recently a senior took a newer style Kirby vacuum to purchase a belt. It was obviously a very new machine with no apparent problems. When asked how much it would be to replace the belt (a 10 minute job) the senior was told "oh no we would also have to service your vacuum-a minimum of $100. Whatever happened to decent customer service? If you dare to walk into a store these days with a complaint, it seems that you are met with defensiveness, hostility, and rudeness. All it takes is a kind word that expresses concern, and the customer feels cared about. This is not difficult! And as far as quality of products is concerned, this is yet another concern. We purchased a SEBO vacuum from Vacuum and Sewing World, which was twice our budget, because it was touted as being the best and needing the least amount of servicing and repairs. So disappointing! Sadly, during the couple months we have owned this vacuum, it has needed more attention and more bag changing that any other vacuum we have owned for over a two-year period. Plus it puts out nasty fumes and we have to wear masks to even operate it. Having to take it apart and deal with clogs has added more anguish for someone who has bad dust allergies. Never again! In the future we will definitely do more research and seek out respectful and polite and caring customer service and a machine that actually performs as it is professed to do. read more

Turns out Howard and I had more in common than I thought, he's actually one of my neighbors as well, so not only was I able to get a great deal, get the parts I needed, but was able to support my neighbor in his local business. I have used Vacuum & Sewing World for repair to my Miele vacuum cleaner on numerous occasions. My last visit created suspicion when the analysis was needing a new hose and complete reconditioning. Left the store researching an alternative vendor. My good fortune was finding Meissner's Sewing & Vacuum only 2 minutes away. Meissner's merely cleaned out a blockage and fee was a quarter of the quote given by Vacuum & Sewing. Sewing and Vacuum World is a great local business with exceptional customer service. Howard, the owner, really knows his business and his product. He took a 30+ year old Bernina 930 that I had bought on Craig's list and serviced it to make it look and work like new. I was in the market for a new vacuum cleaner, and had done research on quality brands such as Miele and Sebo. I'm done with the typical throw-away-after-two-years popular brands. Since I was in the shop already, I thought I'd at least take a look, maybe learn more, and see what they had to offer. The selection of vacuum cleaners is very impressive! This is the only place you will need to go to purchase a vacuum cleaner. Howard helped me make a decision by asking about my vacuuming needs and providing expertise product knowledge. I ended up with a Sebo Felix that was on sale. I am pleased with my purchase and happy to support a local, family-owned business. Also, I wouldn't make such a big-ticket item purchase on the Internet because I need to know that I have local support should anything go wrong. Plus, with the sale - it was a really great deal! Lacks customer service ...very rude when I inquired about scheduling a service visit to see why my central vacuum wasn't performing efficiently. His approach yelling at me saying it's $249.00 to come out or are you going to a buy a new unit "I have a special". I proceeded to try to ask "do you repair or do you only offer buying a totally new unit?" He became combative and I told him I don't think I will use his service; especially if you have to come into my home and being that disrespectful his service is not wanted. read more

I took my Miele upright vacuum in to have the switch fixed. Turns out the vacuum is now 10 years old, time flies. The owner looked it over and called to give me the news. It needed the roller motor replaced and the cord needed to be replaced and there was something else. If I did the repair then the other motor might go out, who knew they had two motors? He said he could repair it for $200 and something but given the age I might consider buying a replacement. I appreciate that he didn't just go ahead with the repair but gave me options. I probably will buy a new Miele upright. They are such great vacuums. I have a canister Miele I have had for years. The prices at Vacuum & Sewing World look very competitive and they are very knowledgeable about their products. I will do some research but would rather buy from a local company. read more

I took my Viking machine and embroidery unit in for regular maintenance and specified twu things I especially waned fixed. I was quoted a price of $240.00 which I know is quite high for this service in the greater Sacramento area. But I decided I wanted to support a small local shop so I left my machine. A few days later I got a call saying the work was done. I was delighted and went to pick up my machine. Then I was told the price was $280.00. When I said I had been quoted a price of $240.00, I was told the price is $280.00. No apology, no offer to compromise, nothing. I was upset, of course, but was a hostage, so I paid and left - mad. When I checked nof the problems I wanted fixed had been! Now I've been robbed twice. I will never go back to World Sew and Vac again. I brought our Hoover upright vacuum in there yesterday as the brush was not turning. I had even replaced the belt thinking that was the problem. The guy looked at my vacuum and said it was junk and that all Hoovers now are junk and I should buy a German vacuum. He said he would not even look at it without doing a refurbishment of the machine for something like $115. Unwilling to pay that to fix a piece of "junk" nor willing to spend for a German vacuum, I left. I took it to Auburn Sew & Vac and the great fellow there just looked at it without taking it apart and said somehow the lever for the clutch had become disengaged.. It's a lever right on top of the machine. He pushed it down to engage the roller & brush and it worked perfectly. Took 10 seconds. And he didn't change me a cent. I bought a bunch of vacuum bags from him as a thanks. Not saying the guy Vac & Sewing World in Roseville was dishonest but I can say he's very unhelpful. I will never go in there again. read more

I took my vacuum there for repair recently. It was a Saturday and I was greeted by a young girl who did everything in her power to send me away. The store was empty except for her. She told my the vacuum I had was a crummy one. It was a Bissell. She said it wouldn't be worth repairing before I even told her the problem. I then told her it was making a weird grinding noise and not removing the dirt, pet hair, etc. She said it was likely the motor and wasn't worth fixing. I asked her how much a new motor might be and she said about $69 for the motor and about $70 for the labor. I said that may work for us could I leave it anyway. She eventually said yes I could. The estimate was free. While she was making out the claim check, I noticed there was a man's picture which seemed "live" on her computer. He was talking to her via the computer screen. I assumed it was the owner or someone related to the business. Perhaps it was a Google Hangout or something via Skype. I also made small talk and asked if she saw lots of repairs for this brand. She said oh, no, it was too low-end for them. They only carried Riccar and Miele. I glanced at the prices of the nearest vacuum which was a Miele. It was $600. A few days later, someone named Howard called about our vacuum. I returned the call. He informed me that it was in fact the motor and they wouldn't repair it. Not here's the quote to repair it or gosh, it might not be a good price. Just no, they wouldn't be repairing it. I guess I find it strange that in this day and age of watching pennies, and knowing that most people throw things out rather than repair them, they had no interest in working with us on any level to repair this product. My husband went and picked up the vacuum the next day. It should be noted that my husband looked up the part number from Vacpartswarehouse.com The motor was $41.23. No tax or shipping. We ordered the part and it arrived the next day. He repaired the vacuum that evening and it works just fine. Cost of parts $41.23. Cost in time, about 30 minutes to repair and the going and coming to the store. Losing a customer and getting a bad review - priceless. So again, we would likely have paid for the repair. Also it should be noted that we are very familiar with the "high-end" brands they carry and would prefer to service when possible rather than buy something and throw things out all the time. To assume I wasn't was a mistake the right kind of customer was a mistake. To make any of the assumptions about our income level, experience with brands and the like, was also a mistake. Perhaps this is the reason so many small businesses go out of business and are gone. I guess they are just not interested in doing the work necessary to stay in business. read more
