Came here on a Wednesday night for a 5:30pm dinner for 3. Service was slightly rushed as it is a popular location. We shared the Hoy Jaw $18 which was very flavorful and crispy without being greasy. I had the Kuay Tiew Nuer $22 as I was under the weather and would appreciate a good soup. The beef was tender and the broth was very flavorful and rich. We couldn't have been more pleased without choice to eat at Valla table. When we walked in, we sat at the bar and two our surprise. There were limited happy hour specials, even on a Saturday, two for one cocktails. The atmosphere was dark and cozy and there was cool lounge music playing. Manhattan, NY (Hell's Kitchen) - an intimate little spot with solid Thai food and interesting dishes on the menu that I would like to tour more of. The cooking is traditional and authentic with modern touches, and well presented. In hindsight, I wish I'd branched out more, as we accidentally stumbled into a mostly all-beef situation: one diner doesn't eat pork, I'm the only seafood enthusiast in the group, and the child needs something "safe" like pad Thai. The non-pork eater loved his nuer yang (grilled NY strip) which was tender if dainty. My nuer Panang (brisket in Panang curry) had a richly flavored curry, but the brisket itself didn't quite achieve that fall-apart tenderness I had hoped for. My husband's nuer nong kaeng kiew (beef shank in green curry) packed a nice kick with deeply layered flavor, though something tasted slightly off. Mom's pad Thai with chicken again had an excellent flavor, a touch sweet, though I prefer the noodles to be less saucy than this version. We stopped by starving after work and have no regrets. All the employees we saw here were Thai. Our server, TK, was very enthusiastic and friendly! We ordered two appetiters, 3 entrees, Thai coffee and Thai iced tea. With our entire order, we were moved to sit in a 4 seat table to fit all our food! Everything we ordered here was amazing. It's been a while since I've been to Thailand but everything resembled Thailand here except the spice level - assuming that's to accommodate Americans haha. Great Thai food in Hell's Kitchen with plenty of veg-friendly options. Taking off one star due to our time limit on our table and being very rushed out which was quite disappointing. I love how they offer mock duck as a protein option - the Kaeng Kiew Ped Jay (basically green curry with mock duck) was very flavorful, as was their Pad Se Ew with tofu. The Pak Mor was a delicious appetizer that leaned on the sweeter side, and the fried tofu appetizer was also very flavorful despite it being such a simple dish. The drinks here are very strong - I had the Lychee Martini. If you dine here, make a reservation so you're not rushed out like we were. read more

Walking into the location is a little tricky because there are two sides - the side we sat on was like a long hallway with no greeting table, so it's a bit unusual. The menu has lots of different options compared to other Thai places and the food is really tasty. Their dumpling appetizers with coconut sauce was amazing. It seems like it's run pretty bare bones, so the waiters work very hard here. Lighting is very dim here for atmosphere. They were very accommodating when I said I have a very bad spice tolerance and even offer to give me a different sauce for my salmon wrap. read more

They were actually pretty good. The Nuer Yang ($28) is a grilled NY strip steak with crispy chili garlic and cucumber on a bed of lettuce. The tamarind sauce was good, and the steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare. That said, we made the mistake of microwaving it later and it ruined the steak. I loved the variety of the menu, and loved that Valla Table had a lot of unique items I haven't seen elsewhere. The staff was very friendly and were eager to provide their recommendations. I tried the Miang Salmon and it was super tasty! Loved all the dipping sauces. The salmon was cooked well, but was kind of a lukewarm temperature. We were also sitting right by the front door, so it's possible that as I was enjoying my meal with friends that the food just cooled down more quickly because of where we were seated. Would highly recommend trying here sometime. It's one of the best Thai spots I've been to in the city, up against some fierce competitors. The Sai Ua (sausage) and Pak Mor (steamed rice roll) were both excellent appetizers and aren't items you see on every Thai menu in NYC. It's a small yet cozy place and poppin on a Thursday evening. The food came quickly and everything was very good. We did not eat family style but it was a good call. However, I was disappointed to find out that they don't serve alcohol despite having different information online. Therefore, I deducted a star from my rating. Upon checking in on Yelp, we were offered Thai iced tea. As we were short on time, we skipped the appetizers and ordered the main entrees instead. We shared the crispy pork belly with fried garlic, grilled New York steak strips served with chili tamarind sauce, and crab meat fried rice. All the dishes arrived at once and we were pleased to find that they were flavorful and perfect for sharing. Our server added another table for us, which made our dining experience more comfortable. We thought that all the dishes were good and served in a timely fashion. However, I do hope that they have started serving alcohol as I believe that spicy dishes pair well with a glass of wine. read more

Met up with two friends so requested a quiet area when making my reservation. When I got there I didn't realize that they had two spaces right next door to the other. Nice spot for Thai food with an upscale feel. The restaurant is split into two buildings, with reception on the right. I walked in for dinner and was seated right away at the bar. Nice atmosphere inside, with noise at conversation level. Service was great and very friendly. You start the meal with a free cup of tea, which is apparently made from bell fruit. Sweet, rosy, and interesting. I ordered the Moo Krob Prik Kluer, crispy pork belly served in a piping hot plate with crispy bits of garlic on top, accompanied by rice and 2 sauces. The meat was great and tender, although the skin was inconsistently crispy. Tasted amazing when it was, but sometimes it was hard or gummy. Really lovely little restaurant with great vibes but more importantly, awesome Thai cuisine. Had the crispy pork with Thai basil, beef curry and squid cooked in ink. All were superb with the latter two dishes truly special. Portions are reasonably sized even if they initially appear on the smaller side. Our servers were very friendly and we just had a good time in this little gem. Slight quibble is that it can be a bit dark on the inside of the restaurant which made it a little tricky to see the dishes clearly (ok maybe it's because the squid was literally swimming in it's own ink!). Absolutely love this Thai spot in Hell's Kitchen area. It's not too far away from the busy Midtown/Broadway chaos but you wouldn't know. I appreciated how this spot had several unique Thai dishes to try (ie not just Phad See Ew or Phad Thai) and I hope to come back and explore more. Service was insanely quick. Almost felt rushed which is the only reason I took a star off. The ambiance is warm and inviting which was nice on a chilly evening. For food we tried Pak Mor per their recommendation and it was excellent! I absolutely LOVED the Khao Yum salad which they toss table side. So unique. It doesn't sound all that light but it still was. If you like spice try the Kaeng Som Goong. We got this and I made the mistake of initially saying something like "oh it's spicy but not numbingly spicy" Whoops! The food is delicious. The service is so-so. One of our party was given a dirty plate -- before the meal was served -- and it took about 10 minutes to replace it with a clean one, and there were no other customers in the restaurant at that point. None of the staff seemed especially interested in helping. Then on the way out, another of our party slipped on the dangerous exit: the restaurant had put a small plank that slanted precipitously out the door, and was wet and slippery, and the woman (wearing hardy shoes strapped on) slipped and fell dangerously, ending up lying on the sidewalk bleeding. After a few minutes one of the restaurant staff came out and seemed concerned, but she did nothing to fix the slippery, slanting plank. She offered a bandaid (the woman who slipped already had a bandaid) but not did not dry off the slippery fluid or put sand or gravel on the pank to minimize the slipperiness. ------ The food was delicious, but the service was not up to par, and we will not be returning. And yes, it was quite expensive. For the $250 we spent, we expected better service. read more
