While the staff was nice and service was quick, the food was very mediocre. I found the crispy pork to be unevenly cooked, some pieces harder than others, my pad Thai noodles were undercooked so it was chewy. The flavor and toppings were good though. My friend's noodles were stuck together and also a bit chewy. My other friend ordered the wagyu dish and expected a piece of wagyu which was pictured on the menu but it was just ground beef. He said it tasted good but was disappointed he paid extra for what he thought would be a whole piece of wagyu (he's also from Japan). This spot serves really really delicious Thai meals! I made a last minute reservation, which is recommended given the place is small, and was seated right away upon arrival. The menu is comprehensive but every dish we tried was very good. We were a party of 4 and everyone loved their meal. Only complaint is one of our dishes took way too long to be served, to the point everyone was done eating except for one person and the dish still hadn't come out. A solid Thai food spot in Hell's Kitchen. We got the beef curry (Nuer Panang), the pad thai with chicken, khao yum (butterfly pea rice salad), and the Yen ta fu hot pot. The beef curry comes with rice and the flavors were good but the portion was pretty small - they didn't add any vegetables in it so it's just slices of beef in curry sauce. Pad thai was very saucy, which was good, but definitely on the sweeter side. Khao yum was good but it was also my first time trying it (I think) so I don't have a point of comparison. Yen ta fu hotpot was fine, but I'm personally not a huge fan of yen ta fu having tried it in Bangkok before. Fabulous menu & delicious dishes..that i will give them. Hard to decide what to order, I would actually recommend glancing at the menu ahead of time to narrow it down. They will come over continuously so better to be ready. My friend described the service as being stalked, lol..there were so many people working, coming to check in, take our order, ask questions...it was very odd. We had (#6 for convenience) Ba Mee Gyo, egg noodle, shrimp & pork wonton and Moo Daeng (pork slices) in a clear broth (delicious, pricey) & a red curry w tofu. both were very good. Also odd was the very very narrow entire restaurant with one line of tables down the whole right side. Absolutely no one seated when we arrived at 5 pm (after 2 phone messages and a text and a reminder 3 x that we only had 1 hour and 15 minutes to eat with our reservation), we were escorted to one of the tables furthest back near the service area..nope, please reconsider one of the 8 tables closer to the front and daylight. And as a side note, those tables all sat empty for at least another 30 min, and then only 4 people were seated.. I would not return. Visited Valla Table with a few friends! Definitely make a reservation in advance because the restaurant is a little narrow with limited seating. I appreciated the authenticity of the menu. Clearly its first come first served as walk-ins get a preferred table, and reservations get an apology. Food came very quickly and it was flavorful and presented nicely. Do not be fooled by the looks of the pad kea mao, it is RIDICULOUSLY FLAVORFUL. it's spiced absolutely to perfection, has a great balance of flavors and had me looking forward to every bite. I kept eating long after I was full because I could not stop myself from how delicious it was. The Panang was also FANTASTIC. super lemongrassy which I loved. Spicy and creamy at the same time it was as delicious as it looks! The star of the show was honestly the Thai tea. Warning, this place is not for the claustrophobic. The restaurant is long and narrow, so get cozy with your neighbors since tables can be a bit cramped. You may also have frequent run ins with the staff if you're sitting near the kitchen. While we weren't given a drink menu (I didn't see a bar either), they do have Thai Iced Tea. We ordered some which were very refreshing. I also ordered one of my favorite Thai dishes, shrimp pad thai. The dish was executed well with tender noodles, flavorful sauce and a good portion of shrimp. I was so happy to have discovered a spot that does khao soi almost as well as Thailand!! I got this dish with the braised chicken and was pretty blown away, as I've been searching high and low for a good khao soi for the past year. The Pak Mor Kaeng Pu was also super delicious and they didn't hold back on the fresh crab in these! The beef green curry and pad see ew were also delicious, but I was a little less blown away by these and found the beef curry a little greasier than normal. This was also the only thing each of us ate for the day so there's no doubt the source of the gastrointestinal upset came from the restaurant. In case it helps anyone else... For me it was pad kee Mao with shrimp that I ate with a spicy sour sauce (sauce was from another dish not pad kee Mao) that later felt off. Had a nice sidewalk dinner here on a Friday night. The outdoor seating left something to be desired since tables and chairs were set up along the sidewalk with people walking close by and the emergency vehicles drowning out conversation, but that's the price we paid for a later reservation. The service was quick despite the place being packed, which we appreciated. And the food was solid, each dish had a unique combination of flavors. We had 2 appetizers: the lotus chips with mushroom cashew dip and a crabmeat and ground chicken wrapped in tofu skin, both brand new to us. We also had 3 different entrees: a seafood noodle soup that was pleasantly sweet and savory, a salmon vermicelli salad that leaned into the heat and tang, and a braised chicken curry that packed an umami punch. Came here on a rainy Friday night several weeks ago prior to heading to a Yelp event and glad I did! The restaurant space is long and narrow, seating about 35 people. Reservations during peak dinner hours are a must! I lucked out when checking on Wednesday evening that they happened to have an open 5:45pm reservation on a Friday night. Service is super prompt and friendly, my friend had arrived first and got seated about 10 minutes prior; the restaurant was completely full by the time I arrived. The staff quickly showed us menus and highlighted their specialties. I'd read reviews that their Thai Boat Noodle Soup with Beef $21 was good so I opted for this, my friend was feeling the Crab dumpling curry with rice $29 which I s another one of their signature dishes so we went with that and shared both. The crab dumplings were very good, there was plenty of crab meat stuffed inside and also a little mound on the side directly in the curry sauce. The sauce was flavorful and on the mild to medium spicy side, though I guess you could say mild for true Thai food. The rice noodles were soft and smooth. I think I waited a bit long to eat my dumplings so they were a little cold and I think they would've been even better warm. The noodle soup was quite delicious--on the herbal side for a beef stew and really reminded me of northern Thai flavors from eating in Chiang Mai. The only thing was the water spinach they used was waay old and fibrous, I couldn't chew/swallow this bc it was so tough. The dishes we got, I'd highly recommend: 1) The crispy pork belly with the market (#2 under pork on the menu) - has that smoky flavor (wok hei) infused in all the vegetables and even stir fried, maintains its crispiness. The restaurant is a little cramped so if you have babies or large groups, it might be a bit uncomfortable. To start, we ordered the Sai Tod (crispy beef small intestine served with tamarind sauce), and Sai Ua (house made lemongrass pork sausage served with red onion, cashew, and lettuce). The sai tod was not crispy but instead was oily and chewy. The sai ua wasn't bad but it definitely needed the onion, and I used the tamarind sauce from the intestines to dip it in. For my main, I decided to go with something safe - pad thai with beef. At least I thought it was safe. It was kind of bland and just meh. It pains me since the food here was really good and the service was nice too, but have to give this place 2 stars because of the scheduling experience when we were told we needed to start vacating our table 45 minutes in (and less than 10 minutes after we received our food) despite the fact that we had a reservation and were explicitly told that we would have the table for 90 minutes. Ended up being super rushed and spent the dinner with waitstaff constantly checking in on our table in order to get us out quicker. I made a reservation ahead of time. The day of, I received a call from the restaurant & confirmed our reservation, during the call, I was reminded that each table is only held for 90 minutes from the reservation time. We arrive on time at 7 and were seated promptly. We took a while to order drinks and look through the menu. After a couple of appetizers, we receive our main courses around 7:40 pm. Every dish was so yummy and we were so happy to be digging into our food. However, not even 10 minutes later, our party of 4 was informed that a different group was arriving in 15 minutes at 8 pm and our table would be going to them. Essentially telling us to rush and finish up our food. This was ridiculous as we had just gotten 4 main dishes and since we should have had the table for another 45 minutes. We ended up feeling really rushed and essentially pushed out of the restaurant with servers asking us to take the plates and pack up things for us when we were still eating. I'm honestly baffled by this and wondered if they mixed up our table and made us leave early? We finally wrapped up around 8:15pm, after the hostess came by to say that a group had been waiting for our table for 15 minutes, as if it was our fault and we overstayed our reservation which we clearly did not. The entire experience left such a bad taste in my mouth and spoiled what would have otherwise been a really nice dinner. I know this is not the fault of the servers as they had to carry out the enforcement, but makes me wonder how the scheduling got messed up. It's such a pity because other than that I really liked the restaurant, the food was good, flavors unique, and variety was nice, however I can't see myself coming back here after this experience. read more
