Shout out to Jacob from the meat department! Was trying a new recipe that required bone in pork chops and for them to be at least/about an inch thick. I had some ordered from Stater Brothers but they were still thin. So I stopped by here to see if they had thicker ones, or if I could get them cut. Jacob helped me and he was the best!!! Asked questions on what I was making and how and seasonings. I was open to his recommendations on what cut, as I don't ever make pork chops. First, when I got them from him and saw the size, I KNEW they were going to be delicious. Second, he chose a center cut and something else (that I should have written down) that pretty much... these are the best of the best cut/type. And let me tell you? They were! Well first off let me say this..I do love the store love the decor everything..But here is where I was disappointed. I ordered a whole friend Fish combo through doordash. First thing the washer waited longer then expected. When he finally arrived ok I was excited because I have been wanted fried fish for a while. Well I was disappointed the fish which in my mind was not fried enough, there was a spot that was still raw. So I put it in my air fryer to crisp it up plus cook a little more. It's not only convenient, but also reasonably priced and generous in portion size. Freshness seems to be a real focus here. One example is the "made to order" salsa station - something you rarely see in most markets. Another positive sign is the constant restocking of produce. During our visit, several employees were busy replenishing the fresh fruit and vegetable displays, which were already abundant. I went in there today cause the Filipino store is far from me. But this place does not disappoint they have pompano and tilapia which is awesome! There have a variety of veggies that's pretty much the same as the Filipino stores like seafood city or island pacific. We went in for lunch and the chicken soup is good and I was able to get Spanish rice. Wish there was white rice though. Service was fast and the girl in the cashier was also nice. This addition in the area was a much needed grocery store for Spanish foods, ingredients, breads, tortillas, masa, meats, produce, that one ingredient the recipe calls for but you can't find, Dulce de leche and much more. I am going to talk about an experience that was incredibly unpleasant and not the experience I usually have in Vallarta markets. I have pictures but I will refrain from using them to help protect management and other workers from harassment. I do not want to believe this is the norm. Sometime in the last two weeks I was sent by family members who were near their 1 hour break time to pick up a few taco plates from Vallarta. I entered, put in my order which was taken by a woman who was so sweet but so inadequate as a cashier. She took about 10 minutes to place an order of 4 taco plates w/ an extra 2 tacos on each plate. She asked what seemed like a supervisor for help but the supervisor left her to her own luck and the line just kept getting longer and longer. I made the order and went to the market to shop. I finished shopping in 30 minutes and paid for my things. I went and they were finishing my order and I checked it and it was ALL wrong. ALL WRONG. The cashier did not specify the extra 8 tacos were to be placed inside the 4 taco plate combos (2 extra tacos per combo). I even made sure the kitchen knew this after placing the order. That was 30 mins in. 30 minutes later, they were still trying to get my oder together and the manager did not help them or put things in order. A kitchen worker dropped the birria twice then just stared at me smiling. They had no sense of urgency, they could not follow basic instructions, they lacked customer service skills, they lacked presentation, and the tortillas were cold but not only cold, they not fully cooked cold. They were crumbly. So after 1 HOUR of waiting for the tacos (total) and checking them, I asked them for lime and sauces. They looked at me telling me I never asked for that. These are tacos. The have toppings. They spilled salsas and cherry on top they told me at the very end that since the cashier took the order wrong, I owed them a balance for 2 of the tacos. I came back and my family's lunch was over. Horrible horrid customer service. I wish this was an isolated incident in THIS Vallarta, but unfortunately it is not. read more

The store over all is a 3. We LOVE everything BUT THE KITCHEN. The kitchen takes way too long. There in so initiative there from any of the workers. They all stand around confused and don't help customers. It took 40 minutes to get 1 taco, 1 pupusa and 1 torta and it's 8:55 pm and empty... there was no line. The portions are also an issue. This Vallarta location sold us spoiled and contaminated meat, and that is absolutely unacceptable. We purchased packaged ham and a whole chicken from this store. The ham was ROTTEN, with a strong, foul odor immediately upon opening. It was clearly unsafe and never should have been on the shelf. The chicken was even more disturbing it contained egg shell fragments inside the body cavity, which indicates improper processing and contamination. That is not normal, not safe, and not something customers should ever have to deal with when buying raw poultry. Because of the seriousness of this, the incident was reported to San Bernardino County Environmental Health, and an official complaint inspection was conducted. Regardless of what conditions looked like later, the fact remains: unsafe food was sold to consumers. Grocery prices are high enough no one should have to worry about getting sick from food they just bought. This experience completely destroyed my trust in this store. My wife and I visited this newer location this weekend. Vallarta Supermarket was my GO-TO when we lived near the Anaheim location. This location in Colton is very nice! The tamales, carne asada, and pan dulce were all great. My only complaint was when we checked out. Lilliana T. was super friendly to the customers in front of us but for some reason when we checked out? Not one word. No greeting. No "your total is". Not even a response when I said thank you to her after paying. It couldn't have been a language barrier because she was speaking English to the customers before us and I'm bilingual in Spanish! Their meat is spoiled. I bought beef honeycomb tripe and it is slimy and has a rotten smell after cooking. Not good!

When they first opened they were awesome. A few months has passed and the quality has fallen off significantly. Their fried meats taste old or like on 9/6/25 they sold burnt fried meats. So far it seems like the competition has people back in their kitchens that know what they're doing and give a damn. I haven't tried their fresh juices yet, just on the ones when come in the door though after today I'll be passing since keeping flies off things isn't a priority. Now the service the provide is ok a few custome service people in store are helpful but a lot of them act like they're scared of people and try to actively avoid you. Overall the ambiance is nice it looks like your typical grocery store with people working. So happy to have a Vallarta Supermarket in Colton! The store is very clean, organized, and well stocked. The meat selection is excellent, and the pan dulce (especially the conchas) is fresh and delicious. Been to this store several times since it opened. I've only been there for the aguas frescas which are delicious and to get food during my lunch. Every time I've been there it's taken forever to get out of there. The customer service is the worse! The last time I was there I waited 35 minutes for 3 tacos that were served on over crunchy tortillas with no cebolla or cilantro. Which I didn't notice until I got back to work. The food wasn't even handed to me, she just left it on the counter and walked away. It wasn't even busy on this particular day. Managers!!! Please do better!! This store hasn't been open long in the San Bernardino area. At first, everything was neat and clean, and all the merchandise looked to be in good condition and of good quality. Personally, after a while, I have noticed the poor quality of all the food. Whatever the food is, it is expired, in poor condition, contaminated with mold. They sell meat and chicken that is larger than normal because it is filled with substances. Today I spent more than $200.00 thinking that the products would be better, but no! At the entrance, they had a display of whole, dried shrimp in poor condition, contaminated with mold. I went to find the manager, the handler, and showed her how the shrimp were contaminated and told her to remove them so they wouldn't cause problems by making people sick. She called twice using the red code on the headset, and during the entire time I was in the store, they didn't move the shelf with shrimp. Last week, I ordered Ne* Mo's brand wrapped cakes through Doordash, and they were expired and in poor condition, hard and dry. The vegetables and fruits were all expired and in poor condition. It's really a shame, negligence, and irresponsible to sell rotten, expired, and poor-quality items. The store looks very neat and "clean," but everything else is horrible! I don't know how the health department hasn't done anything about it yet! Maybe they're giving them some kind of benefit so they don't get fined! I don't know how they plan to open another store in Rancho Cucamonga! Maybe the products will be better there because the city is more careful. I don't know why this store has lowered the quality of its products so much. I've been a customer for many years and used to always buy my groceries at that store in Baldwin Park because that's where I lived. Now I've been living in San Bernardino for 17 years, and when I needed groceries, we would drive to Baldwin Park to shop at Vallarta because I really liked the quality and variety of food there. When they opened this new branch in San Bernardino, I was very happy because my favorite store was now close to me. But I have become increasingly disappointed with this new branch because of all the junk they sell! Maybe I'll have to go back to shopping at Walmart! If we're talking about the worst, let's compare the two, but to improve a little, I shop at the Walmart in Rialto, because the one in Colton has terrible meat, no matter what kind, and not much variety. But at Vallarta's, until someone dies and they get sued, maybe they'll manage to replace the junk with good, high-quality products. Me & my friend went there yesterday evening. Around 5:30pm. We stopped in the Cocina. There were 3-4 workers standing there. Then talking to each other. Then one girl was serving chicken soup, but I didn't see a customer. We waited patiently. The girl serving the chicken soup called a guy coworker. Then they were talking. Then 2-3 more workers came with them . All talking. Not one acknowledged us. I don't mind if workers are busy and I have to wait. But they didn't look or even talk to us. So we waited patiently then finally my friend said can we get some help. One lady looked then went to the register where a guy & woman worker were ringing up customers. Then the guy worker took our order. That was my third time there and my friend's first time. We will not be back. The employees need to be trained like the employees at Northgate Gonzales.
