My husband did his homework before buying tires for my vintage car. The tires that had been on the…read morevehicle were close to but not the same size as the original tires. This lead to my speedometer not reading accurately and the tires getting some rub. After determining the correct size my husband decided he really wanted Firestone tires. Our local tire shop doesn't carry Firestone so we opted to try Michel Tires Plus in Louisville. The process went quite smooth. My husband ordered the tires and set an appointment for the following week to have the tires installed and balanced. The business also does an inspection at the same time for brake wear and several other mechanical functions. On the day we dropped the car off the tire shop kept in touch with a slight delay in when the vehicle would be ready. (Only about an hour later than had been originally indicated). We are happy as can be with the new tires and how the car drives. We also were happy with the price and the savings we got by getting their charge card. I would have given the business five stars but they indicated we would be needing a new battery in the near future. Based on that information my husband ordered a battery from an auto shop and then did some checking. It turns out we didn't need a battery at all so my husband had to cancel the battery he had ordered. Although you only need so many tires I can imagine that we would give Michel Tires Plus repeat business.

It was the thermostat housing. Jon was very nice. I was told to bring it in on Wednesday. It was repaired by noon Thursday at a reasonable price. They used antifreeze I had already bought and was in in my car to top off radiator as I requested. Which saved me a few bucks. I trust this place and was very happy to get my car fixed properly in a timely fashion. I will definitely be back for future repairs.

The gentleman from Autozone tested the battery and said it was good, but the problem was the alternator. At that moment, Desmond Yeary of Yeary Automotive, who was helping one of his customers in the parking lot with his 12-year-old son, overheard our conversation. He handed me his card and said he could come by my house at 3:00 and install the part for me. I went back into the store, and the guys at the desk said he was a regular customer and even recommended him. Normally, I am skeptical, but his young son, who was part of the operation, sold me. Desmond and his son showed up on time and fixed my problem. The price was very reasonable, and I enjoyed seeing the relationship between him and his son. Clearly, the son was learning the trade with his dad--very cool. The next day, my car wouldn't start, and I had to jump it to get back on the road. I went back to Autozone, and they tested the battery and alternator again, saying both were good. I called Desmond, and he came over that afternoon. He and his son worked on the car for almost two hours. Desmond pulled out special meters and analytic tools and finally found that the battery had a dead cell, which evaded detection by the Autozone folks. Desmond then pulled out the battery, took it back to Autozone where it was replaced for free under the warranty, reinstalled the battery, and charged me nothing. Let's be clear: the battery was not Desmond's problem, yet he didn't charge me for all that work. There are a lot of busy (and older) folks out there, and a mobile mechanic makes a lot of sense. I am a fan, especially of this guy. As a former police officer and present security consultant, a healthy skepticism is a good thing. There are several things you can do to ensure the mechanic you hire isn't going to rip you off... but I did none of these things because I think I am a good judge of character. You can trust Desmond Yeary, and I recommend him highly.

That was tested today when we found ourselves in a tight spot. He proved all the positive ravings to be true. He came to the job promptly and worked efficiently doing everything he promised in an efficient manner saving us money! I declare with no hesitation that he is our new mechanic, and I will not hesitate to call him when I have any automotive issue and we will be spreading the word. I just hope he doesn't get so busy that he has trouble fitting me in :)

So a sensor that probably cost less than a $100 and an hour labor($150?) to replace will cost me over $550? My local mechanic always roles over the diagnostic cost into the repair if I have them do the work. Most of the time he doesn't charge a diagnostic fee if I chose not to have it fixed, if he had less the 30 min in the diagnosis.

The car had a very small leak about once every week or two for the next couple of months. I decided to take my car to Pro Auto care. I asked for an oil change and to check out the leak. It turns out the oil filter was so tight the seal or cd something was no longer flush on the engine and allowed a lead (very small) of oil. Pro auto not only changed my oil but cleaned up the leaked oil and all seems well a couple of weeks later. Price is reasonable, people are professional and friendly. They tell you the truth and are quick, efficient and professional. Great service.

Jiffy Lube in Jeffersonville caused over a hundred dollars worth of damage to my husband's car yesterday. When we first called about it, the customer service person ask for us to send a copy of the receipt for the repairs. We haven't done the repairs yet, because the car is at the mechanics, but we were going to get our hands on an estimate to send to them for the repairs needed. In the meantime, the manager, Bill, arrived back at work and left me a voicemail letting me know in no way, shape, or form would they refund us. He did invite us to return to Jiffy Lube and have them "service" our car again. Since their "service" included not only damaging the car, but as our mechanic put it, "They did not even change the oil. It's black--it looks like it came out of a diesel," can you imagine the hutzpah? I just called and spoke to Bill at the Jeffersonville Jiffy Lube on 10th St., and told him that we received his message, a'we do not trust them to service our car, and that they will get the review they deserve. Bill's response? "Very good." And that is the story of Jiffy Lube on 10th Street in Jeff near the new Kroger. Your experience with them may differ, but why risk it? Tim has to cover an unexpected expense and be without his car--possibly for the entire weekend and longer. Definitely not a "quick" or inexpensive oil change.
