The best "Bánh Cuốn" in San Jose, although the service can be a bit slow. If you call ahead of time, you get your order. We love their banh cuon thit (steamed rice rolls filled with pork and wood ear mushrooms) and banh beo (steamed rice cakes topped with mung bean and dried shrimp). It always tastes fresh and I really enjoy the texture. You can buy the pre made containers that they set out on the table, if they are available. The pre made containers usually include a fork, nuoc mam (fish sauce), and hanh phi (fried shallots). They say they speak English but couldn't spell my name so I use my Dad's name. After I got home, I looked at their price and had to do some math. It turns out to be over the budget. FAV BANH HOI! Come early! They run out of their individual togo trays pretty quickly. Was craving banh beo out of no where during work and decided to get some for lunch! So, I pulled up the Yelp app to see where I can score some. This place was the closest so I hopped in my car and drove there. Parking was not bad at all! I got there at 11:30amish and there were plenty of parking spots. The store looks like a deli with not much in the front because all the good stuff is stashed in the back! I'm Chinese so I had trouble communicating what I wanted and I didn't know how to pronounce it but luckily a lady who works there came in and asked me to point at the picture of what I wanted and called to the back to bring some out! Not sure if service usually sucks, but today the lady was super patient and friendly as I asked her what everything was and the prices for each item. I picked up: - Banh cuon (by the register), which are the chunky rice rolls with fried garlic and green onion on top and stuffed with more rice noodle and meat inside. Togo container was $5 for 5 pieces. It comes with fish sauce. Super delicious! Tasted fresh and the rice rolls were soft and flavorful. - Banh beo with shrimp (on the table in the middle of the store). This togo container was $3.50 for 5 pieces of banh beo and 5 pieces of something else that's kind of like banh beo. Banh beo are these circular pieces of rice flour with stuff on top. In this case, it was shrimp and a mung bean-like paste. These are super soft and fall apart when you dip it in the sauce. The other banh beo mystery item is tube-like and the wrapping is more gelatinous and clear. It's a lot chewier, and it's filled with shrimp. These were good, but not as good as the banh cuon.
