This place was okay! Great views - obviously. And our server was really great and super attentive! We had several workers come by to check on us frequently which was great. It's definitely pricey which I feel like is part of what you expect when you go here. I just wish the menu was larger for both drinks and food! The flatbread was okay but not the best in the world. My review of this place is very mixed. The atmosphere is very classy and the outdoor view is amazing but the food is very disappointing. Don't get me wrong it's not extremely bad, it just doesn't match the upscale venue. It's more in line with bowling alley food. The hostess was not friendly at all. I waited a while to review this place. Because I've now gone three times to give it a chance three separate times with a different groups of people each time, and each time I've been let down. The only thing that this place has to offer is the bow buns, and the Apperal spritz Because the service is slow. You can tell that the servers are overwhelmed. The food is not great and the portions are tiny. This place is really expensive for what you're getting. You might as well go to the steakhouse at Ruth's Chris down the street. This place is so fun! Came here on a Saturday night around 9 pm and they had a DJ going. My friend and I stayed until 1 am dancing the night away. We loved our waitress and my friend enjoyed the sunflower drink. I had the margarita all night. Great place to come dance and meet new people. Cool rooftop and views. Very chic hotel. read more

Great spot downtown! Rooftop bar had cool views and we sat right by the window. Service was a bit slow to start but maybe they were changing shifts? We ordered some drinksand the popcorn chicken and cracked fries. Everything was tasty except they made a vodka tonic a vodka soda so we had to get them to change it. Apparently they check ID after a certain time and are strict about letting people in or out. But it was a very cool spot with a great outdoor seating area. Our new waitress was friendly and personable. We will def be back next time we visit SLC! Note, their menu changes so don't go on a normal night and expect the same menu from the week or month before! We didn't realize it was sushi night but we still had great food and drinks. read more

Dropped in after dinner at stk. Got a drink at the bar and moved to an open section outside. Server approached us and told us if we didn't want table service or multiple drinks and someone showed up who did he'd have to ask us to leave. We'd have loved to stick around for a few drinks but that really put us off so we left. read more

If you go, "The Burger" was Bomb.. Fries are just okay. Van Ryder has a Cool view looking out to the west. And thats probably why the prices are on the higher end.. But they should consider bringing in "Teremana Tequila" or "Meili Vodka". read more

Go for the views. The service was good enough for being short staffed and a bit chaotic. We made a reservation thinking this would be a classy restaurant based on food prices, but it was more of a trendy, crowded bar/restaurant. More importantly, with our reservation time, our waiter notified us that the kitchen would close within 15 minutes, so that was crazy since they had reservation times for after the kitchen closing time... would've been so pissed if we couldn't eat dinner. The bacon wrapped scallops were good but not for the price. Same goes for the lobster & shrimp tempura, it was one small piece of lobster. Also ordered the Mac cheese and that was okay too. What do I have to do to dissuade ANYONE AND EVERYONE from coming here?! this place sucks. as a SLC local I've heard good things however it was an insane let down. they notoriously overbook their tables so we were sat outside in the cold, we asked for a few blankets MULTIPLE times and they never came (eventually went back to the hostess twice and got one single blanket). we asked to be moved inside to honor the original reservation and they said they didn't have room. were neglected the whole time and ended up freezing our asses off. food is ridiculously priced - NOT worth your time or money. totally ruined girls night read more

Service was poor. Had to wait at least 30 minutes before someone asked us for our order -- there was 5 of us. After that, we had to keep trying to get someone's attention to get another order of drinks or food. Even after getting another person's attention for more drinks and food, it took extremely long for everything to come out. We only saw our waitress at the beginning and at the end. We ended up canceling our order and leaving. When handed the check, we were charged for the food we order but never came out. Fortunately they were able to fix that for us. Ambiance was really beautiful. The drinks were strong and worth the price. I think once service gets better, it will be a great place. read more

Van Ryder is a lesson in poor management. The space is beautiful, with an outdoor heated and covered rooftop patio affording beautiful views of the entire salt lake valley. Beyond this, however, things become more grim. The bar is woefully perpetually understaffed, making for long wait times for mediocre but pricey cocktails. Every time I've been here, there are three to four staff milling around doing very little, while one to two bartenders are working nonstop trying to keep up with drink orders. It seems that rather than try to improve the quality or speed of the service by hiring more bartenders, management has come up with a ludicrous policy of making people wait at the door for 10 min before entering the space despite many open tables. Overall, the experience is nice for the view but the service is consistently sup-par, and comes short of feeling as luxurious as it really should. read more

I was visiting Salt Lake City and this place was recommended on several social media sites and online. We visited on our first evening and it was definitely a very nice place to have a drink with beautiful city views. I liked that the outside had fire pits to stay warm. I was not impressed. To each their own. Water was never refilled . They turn and burn. To keep it short and simple.

Great atmosphere with decent drinks. The service was great too. Now if you come here for the food it's good if you don't have a pallet for decent food then this isn't your place. We have the Calamari. Upon first bite you can taste the old oil and the calamari looked dark as if it had been fried in old oil. The main course we had a salad and added chicken to it. It look like we got about a chicken wing amount. The burger although dressed well was the make of the mill frozen patty with cold bun.
