I had a nice experience here. I have to admit, when I pulled up, the scene from Pretty Woman came into my head, when the dude is walking down the street saying "Do you have a dream,,,everyone has a dream,,,what's your dream" and in the background is a cheap Chinese restaurant and seedy dry cleaner. You just gotta get inside the place. I received a shellac manicure, which I have been getting consistently for over 2 years. My previous manicurist in Portland had a great technique for preserving my nails, and the technician did the same thing here: apply a protective base coat under the shellac base coat. My nails still look great because of that one easy little step after all the shellac that has been on these digits. I typically am used to CND Shellac, but they use Gelish here, which is a perfectly fine alternative for CND, and they have more colors. Better then that, the staff was friendly, I could understand what they were saying, the prices were very reasonable, and I can't wait to come back and try a pedicure. The environment is not luxury spa. Its more like "get in and get your phalanges cleaned up for cheap", while reading a 3 month old US Weekly. They have a punch card too, which I think is genius. Came in for two mani and pedis on a Sunday afternoon. They were quite booked, with only two technicians on staff. We were ok catching up in the seating area for about thirty to forty-five minutes or so. Wouldn't say the quality was bad, however it wouldn't be considered good either. Mani and pedi were both rather streaky with a few bumps and harsh edges. Wasn't too happy about the shape either. They both were nice enough, but throughout our time in the chair several customers came in inquiring about time slots. Felt bad, they seemed to be in a rush just to fit the remaining clients in. I came in here the other day for a walk-in manicure. I'm used to Los Altos prices because I work in that town, so I was amazed that for only $20 I was able to get a gel/shellac manicure. Van's Nails is tiny, but overall the shop was inviting and clean. The nail tech was friendly, though mostly silent, and used instruments that came from a sealed bag, so I'm assuming they were clean. The finished product was flawless and has held up fabulously. Oh, and this place didn't do the whole arm and hand massage post-manicure, and I am more than okay with that. The massages always make me feel so awkward, like, where am I supposed to look? Do I make eye contact or look at my arm? Should I be smiling while she's rubbing my arms or making small talk? I recently moved to Santa Clara/Sunnyvale area and figured it would be nice to find a new salon closer to home. I discovered Van's Nails on yelp - I called her on a pouring Sunday morning and was able to schedule an appt for a fill and pedicure within the next hour. The salon was easy to locate and it's small and quiet, which is perfect since I hate going to loud noisy gossip nail salons. I was able to read my book and catch up with my celebrity gossip magazines without any interference what so ever. Van's art work is amazing! I like my nails very natural looking with white and pink powder, top with gel. Van is such a sweet person and I would definitely come back. It takes a lot for me to speak highly of someone, so if you gals are in search of looking for a nail technician, give Van a try and you will not be disappointed! On a side note, there is a stamp card she hands out after payment - each time you visit Van's Nails, you will receive a stamp and once you earned 10 stamps, a FREE basic pedicure will be honored after your 10th visit =) Oh, and her pricing is VERY reasonable!!! My sisters (bridesmaids) and I (bride) went here to get our nails and toes done before my wedding. They were very cheap and had great reviews, so we decided to try it out. I got gel acrylics, my sister got hers filled, and we all got pedicures. For $15, I guess you can't really complain, but I will anyways. The pedicure was very quick, and they didn't offer designs or anything (which i normally would pass up, but I actually meant to spoil myself and get a little flower or rhinestones, but she didn't offer and I forgot). In fact, they didn't say more than 5 words to us the entire time. My pedicures normally stay on for about a month, and 2 weeks later my paint is already peeling off. My gel nails have already all come off, too. I lost one the day after my wedding, so I just let the others come off instead of getting them filled. The ladies seemed nice, and the salon was clean. Very limited parking, though. Very cheap... $15 pedicures, $18 acrylics. It was my fault for looking for something inexpensive, when I should have just splurged before the wedding. I was sooo disappointed with my experience here. A friend of mine and I tried it because it had great yelp reviews and was open on Sunday. We both made appts to have gel nails done. First of all instead of wrapping your nails in foil with acetone she has you soak for fingers directly in the acetone... very drying to your hands. Also she was bouncing back and forth between us.. not very professional. I ended up removing the old gel off my nails myself to save time. The reason anyone gets gel nails is because it lasts between 2-3 weeks unlike a regular manicure that chips in less than a week. Well, my $25 gel manicure chipped in 3 DAYS !! Unheard of. My friends lasted less than a week before it started peeling too. Van is definitely doing something wrong with her application. I will say that Van was very nice, and I wanted to like this place, but won't go back due to the poor quality of the service. If it had been just me I would've thought it was a fluke that my mani didn't last but since my friends didn't either I have to go with a big thumbs down for Van's Nails. read more

A friend and I wanted to get out nails done and she suggested Van's Nails based on all the 5 star ratings. Imagine my surprise to walk in on a Sunday afternoon and see the place empty! We both got basic pedicures and she also got a manicure. They have a good selection of colors and the place is CLEAN!! I'm always worried about cleanliness but this is one salon that I feel is safe. The girls took their time and gave a good little foot/leg massage. When it came time to pay I thought I heard wrong. $15? Seriously? I've never found a place with pedicures that cheap! And the fact that it was a good pedicure is unbelievable. It's been 2 weeks and my toes are perfect! I stopped getting pedicures a couple years ago because I would get so annoyed by all the noise and nails ladies trying to up-sell me for extra flowers, designs, etc. Van's nails was a completely different experience for me. It's a cute, quiet shop that's clean and not flooded with customers and nail techs. Thank goodness for Van! Glad I found this place...with Yelp's help of course. Was in the area and needed a pedi ASAP, and this was the closest shop with 4.5 stars. How could I go wrong? The shop was empty as I got there as soon as they flipped that 'CLOSED' sign to 'OPEN.' The women greeted me as I stepped in, asked me what I needed and escorted me to a chair. The place was clean with a huge big screen so there's no way you'd miss the game show that was on. Pretty entertaining. They have massage chairs that work pretty well while you get your pedi. This was helpful with kneading the knots out of my back...relaxxxing. I feel really bad for not knowing the name of the woman that serviced me; but she was really gentle and fast. I was finished in no time (less than an hour) and was really satisfied with her overall. They are also really affordable. I used to live in Las Vegas, so I would say my nail salon standards are pretty high! All 3 nail techs at this salon are equally talented and I have never been disappointed with them. I just went to this cute little nail salon to have my bridal pedicure done since my wedding will be in 3 days in Hawaii. My pedicure is beautiful (French) and I had the most relaxing time in this small salon. It is very clean, there is a big flat screen tv, so you can watch shows while sitting in the massage chair (which is excellent quality btw). It is affordable too, I paid $25 for this French pedicure plus $5 tip. And I asked for the one that also included a hot stone leg and foot massage. I loved it. I called to make an appointment around noon for 'take off nails' at 4:30, & the man who works there assisted me. he started to soak my nails and then buff off the color. I thought this was bizarre, because I definitely called and she knew I wanted the actual fake nails OFF. I asked her "uh he is taking the nails, OFF, right??" "yes, he is". ok, cool. he continues on with this process which I have never had my fake nails taken off before so I had no clue how the process went, asked me to wash my hands (actually I had to ask him, who nodded his head, he speaks NO english nor does he understand it, Van the lady who owns this place has to speak for him). I sit back down because clearly my nails are still ON, Van goes "ok, you are done!". I turned in confusion and said "wait what? I want my nails OFF. Do you not do that here?!?!" she pauses, giggles, and goes "oh, he thought you wanted the nail color off!". laughs ensure, not so much from me. all this took like 30 minutes so i had to wait even longer. He goes back to assisting in taking my nails off while I am fuming inside. Let me say, I jammed my pinky nail yesterday on accident and it was pretty painful. As he was buffing vigorously it hurt a bit, but when he started buffing again he noticed it was bleeding and proceeded to put some blue liquid on it which hurt like a MOTHERFUCKER! I yelped in pain "OW oh my God, fuck! stop, please STOP. no, do NOT touch this nail, forget it." I was so pissed off at this point I couldn't wait for him to finish. Finally Van comes over and takes the nails off because that guy is a complete dipshit. I sat there thinking "no wonder why he is so rough, he doesnt know what it feels like to have fake nails ever". They are SO AWESOME here!!! I am happy to say that I was one of their first clients and have been getting pedicures & brow waxes here on a regular basis. They offer a hot stone massage with pedicures, and are very thorough with their brow waxing. Also very accommodating with walk-ins!!! Yes, there is a liquor store next door and the parking is a bit tricky, but in no way is this neighborhood "shady". LOL!! I had to laugh when I read that. I went to Vans for the 1st time today, and I will not be returning. Kim did a beautiful job on my nails but attempted to upsell me half of the time. During my manicure I indicated it being my 1st time at the shop. There had been no discussion about additional fees for what I had received. Upon my departure, I double checked my receipt and wasn't sure how the price became so high. My mother, whom I had invited informed me of the costs displayed on the menu, she got a pedi and paid $20, and it was $25 for gel manicure. How was I charged $60? With my tip of $9 making it $69, outside of that! I called and spoke with someone, she informed me that if I had questions I should have asked. That sometimes they dont have the time to inform customers of their price breakdown, although there wasn't anyone else in the salon at the time. She told me that is how it goes and I should know what I got was an additional cost, although I was not informed. She then rushed me off the phone saying she had other customers. It would not matter if I came in, she would call me back although I never gave her my number. I am very disappointed, after just thinking I found a new salon. If you decide to go here, be mindful they charge for everything they do and may not inform you prior. But they will suggest everything that is an additional price. read more

Before she opened her own shop she was awesome and nice, but now that she has the freedom of her own shop she is even nicer lol. I think its because she is less stressed and has more freedom. We never would have gone here except we were at Valley Fair mall and needed somewhere close by that was open (it was kind of late) and could take us at the last minute right then. I used the Yelp app on my phone to find open nail salons nearby and this one was highly rated. I called ahead and they were nice enough to tell me that they were busy at that moment but that we could come by in 30 minutes, even though they were supposed to be closing. Unlike other nail salons that tell you 30 minutes and then make you wait another 30 minutes once you get there, they were ready and waiting just for us, and staying open later just for us even though there was no one else there! Really nice, right?? For the price (cheap!), this place is AWESOME. It's not located in the most upscale neighborhood (lock your doors!), but it is CLEAN, good quality, good service, nice ambiance/decor, friendly but professional. They do an excellent, thorough, and conscientious job on pedicures. They also use hot towels and give you a killer leg/foot massage. Upon paying, they gave us a Buy 10 Get 1 Free card for which we already got 2 credits! I will definitely be returning next time I'm in the neighborhood (probably coming back from Valley Fair mall). Awkward location, but super cute inside. During my "busy" work hours, I was, literally, biting my nails off searching for a nail salon nearby. Trusty Yelp popped Van's Nails as number 1 from my work addy. I called in to make an appointment to ensure I could get a spot, GREAT IDEA! It was easy to find, but parking is tricky and located on a semi-busy street. I came in on a Wednesday and was lucky to get front parking, literally, right in front of the door. I was greeted as I walked in and was told to pick out a color. I was surprised, in a good way, that they carried Zoya brand nail polish. They had a vast collection along with OPI nail polish. I paid $23 for gel full set. Pretty snazzy and the coral color(Heidi) they had available from Zoya is TOO CUTE and perfect for summer! I'll be back next week for a pedi before my Vegas trip. Great place! Very clean and professional. I had Yi work on first taking off my acrylics and she was gentle and very patient--even though my fake ones were extremely difficult to take off. The ladies all had wonderful attitudes (not like some of the places where the people working there obviously want to be doing something else). Was a bit late because of after work traffic but they still took us anyways and ended up staying late for us! Service was great great great and I had a nice chat with my girl. Super nice and she did a great job on my nails which is very important! Didn't feel rushed at all even though it was after hours. Place is clean even though its small. She offered to have me pay before hand before putting on the polish so I wouldn't have to dig around after- very smart. Also as mentioned they have the frequent member card so woohoo to that! LOVE Van's nails. I come in weekly for a polish change and ever 3 weeks for a manicure and pedicure. Michelle is extremely warm and friendly and I enjoy her conversation whenever I am in the shop (she loves makeup also!). She remembers the colors I like and even remembers the last color she put on my nails. She always asks how the color held up. The service is quick and thorough just how I like. The price also is very reasonable and this with the service keeps me coming back. I am hoping that they hire more people as they become busier and busier. They also accept credit cards and let you tip on the card! Pet peeve of mine that recently many nail places insist on cash tips - who carries cash?!?! Recently my dad came in with me for a pedicure (hot stone) and he had been having some pain in his feet. He marveled for days about how much better his feet felt.
