I give Vanda Thai a solid 3.5 rating. It's a great option on a Friday night in Walnut Creek since it has a private lot a bit away from the downtown insanity. The staff are super sweet, attentive and welcoming. Decor is very basic, almost sterile, but come here with the mindset that it's a no frills spot. The food is fresh and flavorful-very good but not extraordinary, hence not bumping this spot up to 4 stars. I've sampled the veggie spring rolls which are run-of-the-mill but tasty. Their spicy basil sauce with tofu and veggies was just alright-it was a bit too spicy for me. However, last night I tried the Ginger Tofu and Veggies, which were outstanding. The sauce definitely had fresh ginger in it and the veggies and tofu were nicely sautéed. The savory flavor and array of colorful red peppers, broccoli, mushrooms and carrots was healthy yet satisfying. My boyfriend is a fan of their pineapple fried rice-that particular dish is a very large portion so seems great for ordering for the table to share. Since he got it with chicken, and I'm all veggie, I didn't partake. They offer rice at no additional charge with many of their stir fry dishes, and only 50 cent up charge for brown rice. I'll definitely be back when I'm craving Thai food in Walnut Creek. The prices are more than fair (cheap, even, for this area,) portions are generous (took home leftovers) and it seems like a nicely run family oriented business. I went to Vanda Thai because they had khao soi, my favorite dish. It was different than I expected because it had carrots and potatoes, making it more similar to yellow curry, but it was still delicious! I've also had the pad see ew and the yellow curry, but the khao soi is by far my favorite from here. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place based on the reviews, I ordered Roti with Curry and asked for a water. It came out super quick and was super hot but the Roti was soggy/oily and not crispy, it did not taste fresh, seems like it was microwaved and not made fresh. The yellow curry was super watery but flavorful and an extremely small portion (like 2 tbsp) which was fine since I didn't eat much Roti anyway. Never got my water. read more

Great little hole-in-the-wall Thai place in Walnut Creek! They have amazingly fresh spring rolls with a peanut based dipping sauce I could literally drink from a glass. I think they're the reason I continue to return to Vanda. Not to imply I only eat the fresh spring rolls, although I could! Haha. We had the hardest time doing a to go order from here. The phone number listed on Yelp and on their website didn't work? Not sure if it was because it was busy either, it would just immediately hang up upon calling. This place is great for takeout. I liked using Grubhub to order so I could schedule my pickup ahead of time and didn't need to touch the business's payment system upon arrival. We ordered 5 items that came out to ~$55, excluding tip, and had plenty to eat for a four-person household. The Green Curry filled its container to the brim but was 75% curry and 25% chicken/eggplant/etc. The curry itself was creamy with mild spice, true-to-order. The Green Papaya Salad (Som Tum) was refreshing with a kick of spice. My house devoured the Roti with curry, Pad See-Ew (street noodles) and Crab fried rice, none spicy. The beef with the Pad See-Ew could have been better but it was a satisfying dish overall. Will be coming back to try more. read more

Best Thai food in Walnut Creek! I was going on a picnic and offered to bring Thai food. I ordered the pad Thai with chicken, drunken noodles with beef, yellow curry with chicken, pineapple fried rice with chicken, and the chicken skewers. Everything was delicious, but the drunken noodles with beef were my top fave! I was scared that it wasn't going to be enough food but it was more than enough! They are definitely friendly with their portions. Next time I'll pass on the chicken skewers, they weren't bad but they weren't my favorite. I'll definitely be back! read more

Excellent Thai! We ordered chicken satay, yellow curry, roti, and coconut rice with mango. All of it was really delicious . My only suggestion would be to fry the tofu before adding it to the curry - it didn't have much texture. Update: I went back for another round. This time I ordered the sleepy shrimp (kids and husband ate them so I assume they were good) and pumpkin curry. The curry was delicious! A bit spicy, even though I said not spicy when ordering. Pumpkin pieces were so tender and yummy. I still wish they would sear or fry the tofu before adding it! I asked for extra sauce on my coconut/mango rice and it was SO good. Awesome food! read more

Vanda Thai is my go to place for authentic Thai food. The food is always tasty, with decent portions and comes piping hot and fresh. The service is always friendly and I love that it's a 5 minute drive from my house. They also have a lunch special that is very well priced with fast service. When I used to work in downtown WCR, this was a favorite to come to with my coworkers. We like doing take out from here sometimes when we just want to enjoy the food in the comfort of our own home, this is where I think some improvements can be made. 3 out of 3 times that we have ordered take out, the orders were messed up. Either they put chicken when I ordered tofu or chicken when we order beef. Once my sig other picked up the food and he didn't check so it was a hassle to go back after we were already home. Even though each time I double and triple confirmed the orders over the phone, somehow, they come out wrong. They were always gracious in fixing it but sometimes you don't want to sit there for another 10-15 mins and wait once you already drove there and picked up the rest of the food. I think with more attention to detail, this could be minimized. read more

Great Thai place for lunch that is located in a strip mall which equates to easy and free parking. Normally, I head over to get their lunch specials which is such a great deal for an entree, egg roll, soup, and salad. Granted it's not a full on salad and soup, but it's a nice addition to an already nice meal. I normally get the basil chicken and my husband likes to try the different curries. The service is as expected and they serve food quite fast which is great when I'm on a time crunch. We used to come here before Covid 19 and the store just has a new owner recently. Our family loves Thai food and this is a hidden gem in Walnut Creek. I am going to share what I like from the latest visit on the last weekend and my impression about this restaurant. First, the waiters are very welcome and attentive. Always tried to check if we need to refill water and how's our food. The store inside is not big but very clean and neat. What we ordered and like Appetizer: Fresh spring rolls with the sauce is awesome. Chicken Satay is a must have item. Pot stickers- kids love it! Entree: Grill BBQ Chicken is yummy. Kao Soy Curry is delicious! I love it. Basil pork goes so well with rice! My husband loves eggplant and drunken noodles. We also have fresh made Thai iced tea. My husband and I absolutely LOVE this place! We have going for years and years and they are always busy. We had some friends visiting from out of the country and we ordered a bunch of Thai food from Vanda, and they literally could not believe it! Their minds were blown! We had a literal feast. The only bad thing about Vanda is it's so hard to not overstuff yourself because everything is literally that good! We always get the Drunken noodles, the Tom Kha is so good, Pinapple friend rice- and so many veggies in there too, Red curry and green curry- I told you we order a lot! And of course- Thai ice tea! We've been eating here since we moved to WC two years ago. We typically order to go, but occasionally eat there. We've always loved the food. However, I'm updating my review because the service has dropped a significant amount over the last 6 months. Their phone is usually busy now and they're trying to push you to Grubhub to order take out. I'm good with that, I'm sure answering the phone for orders is a pain and Grubhub can do that well. However every time we go to pick up our foot they act like it's a huge hassle. There is on employee in particular who might just permanently be grumpy, and she likes to let you know that. The food remains good, but we'll take our business elsewhere. Too consistent on being rude to customers. A note to the business. Good Thai food isn't hard to find in the Bay Area. I can throw a rock and hit a handful of good Thai spots. I'd prefer that the restaurant where I eat doesn't find serving you food an inconvenience. The store front is nothing fancy and is in a small strip mall in downtown Walnut Creek. But the service is friendly and the prices are reasonable. After living in Walnut Creek for a few years, this definitely was my go to place for really good Thai food at a decent price with good service. Although dining in is nothing fancy, they do offer delivery and take out through most apps and through the restaurant directly. It's so hard finding a good Thai place in my opinion, this ones become my regular spot for take-out lunch and it's conveniently down the street from where I work. The service is super friendly and the food is always ready ASAP, grub-hub didn't let me set a time to pick-up my order and they called me not too long after I placed it. However, they were accommodating for my later time as I didn't expect it to be ready until grub-hub estimated. A few of my standard favorites are the pumpkin curry, pad see ew and crab fried rice. I ordered the curry with medium spice and it was super good, the spice is more of a mouth/lip feel after each bite. The pad see ew is the right amount of sweetness and I love that the noodles are wide and flat, very different texture in comparison to pad Thai. I was honestly a little underwhelmed by the crab fried rice and I'll probably get the Thai basil fried rice, it felt a little lacking is all but the flavor was good! read more

The only thing I would suggest, when it comes to hot food. Is that the Chili's that they have the one that is in the oil unless you are a veteran to hot food you need to pace yourself.
