Needed a quick late lunch grab n go and saw Vanda Thai as I was driving by. A quick check with Yelp reassured me that this was a good option so I popped in. Got the vege larb tofu (sorry scoffed it down and forgot to snap a pic, I know that's a major Yelp faux pas!), and a seafood rad na both to go. Saved the rad na for the next day's lunch and it was still good! The larb had a nice spicy kick to it. (Pro tip: if you're squeamish about spiciness, be sure to forewarn them and ask for very mild!) They were friendly and eventhough I didn't dine in, the layout looked nice and clean. Gonna try to stop by here again next time I'm in WC. read more

Wowowowowow what a gem!! Generous portions, lots of flavor, and fast service all at very reasonable prices. Probably the best Thai food I've had in a long time. The interior isn't too large so Vanda Thai is perfect for takeout/to-go. Food is great. I got to try their rice, Basil Eggplant w/ chicken, and Basil w/ chicken. All were delicious and the portions were so large that neither my boyfriend nor I were able to finish our entrees. The chicken was tender and they don't skimp on the meat. Regarding the large portions, they pack the to-go containers full of the entree and pack their white rice in a separate box on the side, so the rice doesn't end up taking space in the to-go box. Our entrees were maybe $13-14 each, which is a steal considering most places in the Bay Area charge upwards of $15-20 for a dinner entree. The thing I love most about Vanda Thai is their use of Thai chiles. Typically, most places are very conservative with their spicy levels so my boyfriend and I both ordered medium spicy, thinking it would be mild at most. Their medium spicy is actually medium spicy and it was delicious! They also offer extra fish sauce with Thai chiles on the side, which we ate with the steamed rice. For those that don't enjoy spicy food as much, I would definitely recommend going for no or mild spice. No complaints with service. I was craving Panang curry so found this place that does delivery for a comfy night in. Key things to mention: 1. On the delivery app (door dash) they had three spice levels available -- normal, 5 spicy, or 8 Thai spicy. I love spicy but humble enough to know I can't handle full Thai spicy so thought 5 would be a good medium high heat. OH MY. My mouth was on fire and nose was running by the third bite. I put some extra coconut cream in it just so I could eat it all. Delicious, just please please be warned 2. I drank that Thai iced tea in 10 seconds. Delicious. May be heavy on caffeine because I had heckuva time falling asleep. I guess this is growing up? 3. Vanda soup is pretty mild. Exactly what I need for lunch this week and good hydration meal for the dry climate, but a little bland. I ended up adding some lime, hoisin and Sriracha (i know i know mixing cuisines here). We've been Door Dashing Vanda Thai like Ca-raaaayyyzee! Pre-COVID, we always meant to stop by and dine in but never had the chance. But now during COVID, we've just about spent our life savings here lol (kidding .. kind of haha) Ok, let me just tell you the one dish you HAVE to get - Tofu Noodle Soup with silver noodles. Ask to make it vegan with no fish sauce, no meat. SO SO GOOD! They deliver it with the soup and noodles separated, which I appreciate. Once you combine the two into your own (big) bowl, angels start to sing lol! The broth is light with the right amount of flavor. The noodles are boiled to perfection. I think it may be a 2-person serving, but I finish it til my belly is hanging over my belt haha. My husband loves getting the Drunken Noodles. Get it with tofu and make vegan with no fish sauce. Nothing to write home about, but not terrible. I wish it was possible to add spice so it wasn't one-note. I ended up adding my own at home. I just moved to Walnut Creek and really needed to find a good Thai restaurant. I found this place and ordered some green curry with white rice. The eggplant and vegetables were so good! It definitely tasted fresh. The rice portion was a little small but I personally don't eat rice that much. The service was good. I usually order take out from here. She patiently explained why some of the dishes cannot be made GF and offered alternatives. She also made sure to highlight the modifications that will be made to ensure that our order will be GF. The food was scheduled to arrive 12:30pm, Vanda Thai was able to get it to us 10min earlier than expected. It was all of our first times trying Vanda Thai. My coworkers loved everything and made sure to jot down the restaurant name for future reference. Our order: chicken satay, pad thai, papaya salad, pumpkin curry (pork), green curry (prawn), red curry (beef) and panang curry (veg). All the curries come with jasmine rice. Vanda Thai has become our go-to Thai place whenever we're heavily craving Thai food. We dined here one time and it was pretty good, and we ordered food to go another time, and it was equally as delicious. Vanda has a variety of spicy levels, and their spicy is actually spicy. We've tried the following from Vanda - Drunken Noodles - my favorite! Spicy thick noodles with a variety of veggies and choice of protein. Their spicy is rather spicy and it's been consistent throughout. Crispy Tofu - soft-ish tofu underneath the crispy fried outer shell. Comes with some sauce. Nothing too special about this tofu dish, but worth a try if you generally enjoy crispy tofu. Chinese broccoli with chicken - wow, I really enjoyed the subtle flavor of this dish. The Chinese broccoli was really good. The kids enjoyed the flavor and the chicken as well. Roti with Curry - yummy bread and sauce! One of our musts when we dine in. Pad See-Ew - delicious! The sweet flavor binds very well with the noodles, veggies, choice of protein, and egg. I like taking a bite of this with every few bites of the drunken noodles to balance the spiciness from the drunken noodles. The kids love this pad see-ew. Perfectly good dining in and taking to go. Grilled Chicken Wings - these were alright. The other dishes we had were more enjoyable to me, but these weren't bad either. Very nice staff. They give pretty accurate times of when the to go orders are ready. After walking Shell Ridge, our hungry group was ready for lunch. Checked Yelp and we settled on Vanda Thai, which was located in a strip mall on Newell Ave just east of Broadway Plaza. Parking was easy in the mall lot. Arriving at 1:15pm on a Tuesday, there were only a couple of customers waiting for their to-go orders. It's not a large place and with our party of five, the worker assembled a couple of tables together for us. We checked out the menu and placed our orders. Pineapple fried rice - made with tidbits of pineapple, egg, onion, cashews, tomato, raisins, green onion with some curry. It was a well-made dish that was a good sized portion. Tasty and recommended. My fellow diners had the Drunken noodles with chicken, Pad Thai with chicken and the Kao Soy curry. They were happy with their orders except my friend who ordered the Kao Soy felt the portion was small. Many recent reviews have highlighted the ownership change, decrease in quality of food and poor service. Delicious food always! Been here a few times and the place never disappoints! Today I came alone so I ordered their lunch special L3 - spicy crispy chicken with fried rice, salad, 2 pot stickers and an egg roll. Too much food for one person I have to say. Everything is delicious and best of all, parking is free which is rare in Walnut Creek! The spicy crispy chicken is tasty, well spiced a bit spicy but not too overpowering. The salad if fresh with a hint of sweetness and vinegar which I love! Pot stickers and egg roll are full of filling and so crunchy and flavorful!! I asked for chicken and it came with chicken and tofu. The chinese sausage fried rice oddly came with chicken and lacked like entire fried concept. We called to see if something was different and they offered to remake it for next time. This week we ordered the chinese sausage fried rice (again) and yellow curry. It's official and the reviews are true. New ownership has changed the recipes and it's not the same. The chinese sausage used to be sweet and perfect, instead it was such a different flavor and texture. The yellow curry wasn't bad but it was mostly chicken. This used to be our go to thai place over every other thai restaurant in town. Truly crushing news to find out it's changed. We sadly won't be returning. :( read more

You know those restaurants that multiple friends have recommended, to the point where they have said they'll take you there because they think you'll enjoy it, but you brushed it off until you finally try it one day? Yup, that was Vanda Thai for me. One day, I ended up seeing Vanda Thai on my DoorDash app, when it was 11 pm, and I was supposed to be winding down to sleep. For the following week, that little reminder lived in my mind, rent-free, until I decided to finally take the plunge. I ordered a Chicken Pad See Ew, medium spicy ($11.95), with a Thai Iced Tea ($4.00), on the side. I did a little research and found out that Vanda Thai is family owned and operated. I also noted that the cost per item is the same as DoorDash, which made it all the more reason to place a phone order. Obviously, when you're hungry and excited for some delicious Thai food, work calls. I literally received a work call, while about to leave the door, and had to entertain and address the fire that work presented. I was astounded to discover, 15 minutes later than the original completion time, that my food was still fresh, warm, and the noodles springy. I believe they may add a little extra flour to get the noodles this perfect consistency, texture, and bite. They were generous with the toppings (gai lan and chicken), and it was a great value for the cost. The Thai Iced Tea was good, but I feel like it's hard to make it very memorable or horrible. I tried it again, the following week, and this time ordered the Chicken Pad See Ew and a Pork Drunken Noodle (Pad Kee Mao). The Pad See Ew was definitely my favorite and was made the exact same way I was expecting it to. Good Job, Vanda Thai. The Pad Kee Mao was very fragrant and flavorful, but was missing a little heat... possibly because of the demographic of Walnut Creek. Both containers were very full, enough for a second meal. All-in-all, this is going to be my new go-to place for Thai food. I will need to try some of their appetizers and curries. Will let you know how that goes! read more

This spot is literally a hidden gem in Walnut Creek. Who would've thought you'd find authentic and affordable Thai food here? The food here is seriously delicious, and you can tell by how busy this place gets with togo orders. My boyfriend and I came here once when dine in was allowed. We tried the khao soy and pad thai. The khao soy was a unique dish that is hard to find. It is a curry soup with half crispy and half regular noodles. The dish is fun to eat, and your pallet doesn't get bored with the extra garnishes included: red onion, cilantro, and pickled mustard green. I totally recommend this dish to everyone. The second item was the pad thai. The flavor was really rich, but it hit the spot. If you to go this, I would add some cut up peanuts in it. Yesterday night we came here again, but for take out this time! We got the khao soy again and the drunken noodles. Vanda Thai geared up for Covid very quickly and very well. They're super on-point with disinfecting and masking. The rest of the community has noticed and so there's pretty much always a line waiting for their take-out. As for the food itself - it's definitely good but not outstandingly memorable. Well made, tasty but not something I'd go "Wow - I need to tell my friends about this!" Standard array of typical Thai offerings. The only thing which fell short was their roti. I live down the street from these guys and have been ordering takeout pretty regularly. Their lunch specials are a GREAT deal. Their curries are tasty and flavorful and everything is hot and fresh when I get it. I always add a side of steamed veggies as I love extra veggies in my curry, and the vegetables are steamed perfectly. I haven't tried anything other than the curries yet, but I'll branch out soon; they are a great neighborhood staple! read more

I popped in at 6pm on a Sunday evening and went inside to order take-out. The wait staff was so sweet and offered me ice water while I waited. It was ready in six minutes! I drove home and my family and I dug in. We had drunken noodles with chicken, som tum (5-hot spice level), and cashew chicken. We loved all the dishes. All the flavors were strong and distinct. The som tum was flavorful and balanced, and had the perfect amount of heat for us -- bordering on too spicy, which is exactly how we like it. Even our toddler loved the cashew chicken and drunken noodles. I live in Oakland and will definitely make a special trip out here to order from them again. We've tried many places in Oakland, but haven't found a place we like more. It was $40 for everything. Amazing price for the food!! read more

I'm always next door to the Donut shop which is directly next to this place and always wondered if it was a good Thai food place. It turns out that it actually is a great place and it has the family owned feel of a quaint little restaurant. The place isn't to big seating wise, but it definitely a place you can get your food to go or wait for a table. We had only had a few of their entrees but it was really good, and not overly spicy. The Pineapple Fried rice with Chicken, and Pad Thai with Shrimp were both good. We also ordered Fried Tofu with a spicy oil peanut sauce on the side. The wifey ordered a Pork Curry soup dish which they brought white rice on the side. The people there were friendly and informative. We had a person with nut allergies, and they accommodated our requests. We were able to enjoy casual ambiance and will definitely be back to try more of their entrees. read more

I can't believe I haven't eaten at Vanda Thai before. We were in the mood for Thai and although there are a few places closer to home, I wanted to try a new restaurant. Due to the shelter-in-place situation, we assumed Downtown Walnut Creek would be empty so we called in our order for take out. Vanda Thai is located at the San Miguel Center near Dunkin'. It is a small family-run restaurant but they are big on flavor. The green chicken curry had the perfect amount of heat and the Tom Kha soup had plenty of mushrooms and chicken with a good balance of tart and sweet. The shrimp pad Thai was excellent. Sometimes these noodles can get clumpy and stuck together when ordering take out. Not here. The noodles had a nice chew and they were tasty. The eggplant with beef was yummy. The eggplants soaked up the sauce and it is so good with steamed rice! Lastly, we always order fried chicken wings at Thai restaurants. And these were served with sweet and sour sauce. I've had better elsewhere, but these were not bad. All in all, the flavors are authentic. The prices are surprisingly decent for Walnut Creek. Once we can get back to eating at restaurants, I'd love to try other dishes with my family and continue to support locally. read more

SO glad this place is back on top! The quality is back to being amazing and everything we've ordered the last handful of times has been spectacular. All the veggies taste fresh and look bright, the wontons and samosas are seem like thy are made to order and not jsut refried upon request. I love this place, it's my go-to/default dinner spot again! Yummy thai spot with fresh ingredients. My mom, who is particular about her eggrolls, really enjoyed their vegetarian eggrolls! The size was great, the veggies inside were crips, flavorful, fresh, and the outside skin was the right consistency - not double fried. Their green curry was also flavorful and had fresh veggies. Super yummy Thai food in Walnut Creek! I can't speak for how the indoor dining is, as I only did take-out. I was in the area and craving Thai food, so I luckily stumbled upon their Yelp page. My partner and I ordered two Chicken Pad See Ew over the phone. The food was ready in less than 10 minutes for pick-up, which is a plus for me! The food came out very hot and was still steaming when I got home. The noodles were al dente, veggies were generous and fresh, and seasoning was perfect. What happened to this place?! The recipes changed overnight, it seems, and the new version of everything is terrible. We regularly get the Basil Chicken, yellow curry with tofu and the drunken noodles. The basil chicken was way too sweet. The potatoes in the curry were practically uncooked: they literally crunched. I had to remove them and microwave for three minutes to make them edible. And the drunken noodles which used to be made with wide flat noodles seems tonhave been made with thin pad thai-like noodles, and was also too sweet- in fact it tasted like they used the same sweet sauce as on the basil chicken. We need a new Thai place: this wasnanonce a month staple, and we can't go back. read more
