Giving my honest review.The food wasn't good I tried the pad thai, it had too much soy sauce and it lacked other flavors, I got charged $3 extra to add shrimp but only 3 shrimps were added and the rice was hard and dry. Dined here for lunch on Lunar New Year's Eve and the place was quite empty at 1pm. I had made a reservation 2 days prior, but it definitely wasn't needed. The price was good for the portion size. Seems they have the lunch menu every day of the week, which is pretty awesome. I did enjoy my mom's garlic prawn combo. The flavor was delicious; too bad it was much too salty though. The one-item combo came with tom yum soup, which did not taste authentic at all, as well as a side of rice. My drunken noodle dish was beyond spicy! I know it was stated on the menu as such, but our server did not make sure I was aware when she took my order, nor did she ask if I would like it to be more mild. Also, the service was extremely slow for how empty the restaurant was. She did not ask what we would like to drink; instead, she asked as an afterthought when taking our orders. None of the servers looked our way during the meal either. It took me awhile to flag our server down for more water and to have them send over the forgotten house salad that came with our family friend's meal. Parking was surprisingly decent; everyone was probably flooding the Chinese restaurants on Noriega or Irving. Just about what you'd expect at any Thai place. The service was great, I got an order of pad Thai with prawns to go and it was ready within about 5 minutes. However there was only 3 shrimp in the entire thing, and I paid extra to have them added. They also didn't give me a fork or napkins in the bag and I had to borrow those items from a friend. The pad Thai tasted great though, no complaints. I'd have included a fourth star if there was a more fair amount of shrimp in it. So the food was good but average at best when it comes to Thai which is some of my favorite food out there, and there was great service but the lack of shrimp and just plain averageness gets it a 3 out of 5. read more

If you are ever craving that spice in your life, or should i say in your work day. This place will give you that extra kick. My co-worker and I came here for lunch and parking wasn't too bad. There was already a small crowd of people already eating but we still got a seat. They have a special lunch menu which is great for your wallet. You can pick 1 or 2 items for just under 10.00. That's a pretty good deal for the amount you get. I got the Ga Prow with chicken with chili, garlic, bell pepper and sweet basil along with the Pad Ma-Kuer with was sautéed eggplant with fried tofu, chili, bell pepper, onion and basil. I was prepared to add more hot sauce to my dish, but I didn't have to.. It was so spicy that I downed my drink so fast. I love the spices in this dish and I'm glad they did packed it with lots of ingredients. We also got the fried calamari. The Fried calamari was really good. the Calamari was not covered in batter like most places. You have a good large slice of calamari that is lightly dipped in batter. Overall i love this place, but i'm sad i lost all my pics before this review. If you check in on yelp. you get a free scoop of coconut ice cream. The ice cream was so good, I'm not sure what they put on top of the ice cream but it made it the perfect combo. I'll be back! read more

The tomyum is excellent! It has everything right - the spiciness, the fish sauce, the ingredients and scent. I'm also a fan of the green curry and recommends giving it a go if this will be your first time here. My buddy and I needed a place to grab some grub after getting our drink on at the Yelp event in Potrero Hill. We had originally planned to eat at Vanida Thai in the sunset before the event and decided to stick with the plan afterward. I ordered the lunch special with 2 items and got the green curry with chicken and peanut sauce beef. The meal started off with a cup of their creamy tom kha soup with chicken and I found it to be pleasantly extra creamy but didn't really like the sliced onions in it. The entrees were a decent size and I enjoyed their peanut sauce. I got a really big piece of cartilage in my beef though and the curry came out really spicy but kind of bland and I would pass on it next time. Overall I wasn't all that impressed with Vanida. The food was mostly meh and the service was very rushed since I guess they were wrapping up for lunch and I ended up paying for our meal in the middle of it. I don't like to write lousy reviews. Years ago I ate at the restaurant often, bringing family and friends. Today had food from their set-up at the Framers Market. My friend ordered a chicken crepe (not sure wisest choice). The crepe looked fine, but the chicken looked store bought, pre-cooked and dry. With cheese, spinach and pesto, sounded like a good combo. Not. She didn't eat more than two bites. Bummer. The Miang Kham use to be delicious at the restaurant. One of our favorites. This time not so great. The sauce tasted different, the ginger didn't seem fresh cut, just lacking. Didn't try anything else. I know it is hard to do food trucks, so maybe stick to eating their food fresh at the restaurant. The other drag is how much plastic packaging they use. Would be great for them to switch over to compostable since in SF we have compost system. Sorry to write a lousy review. read more

I have been here a few times and finally I am going to yelp it. Food is ok. Clean, which is important. My problem with this place is that the staff slacks on the portions, contrary to other reviews, portions are not suitable for sharing even if you order from the dinner menu/a la carte...esp. if you order soup for dinner. I was surprised to find a very small container of soup for 5 people. For the garlic pork, chicken or even beef, I'm not expecting a to-go carton full of food, but let's not "fill" in the container with shredded cabbage. C'mon now. Found this Thai place on a Yelp Ad while hanging out by Ocean beach. Very glad we decided to come here for lunch. The place is very clean, the decor is nice and relaxing, and the service is great. The lunch specials allows you choose from 25 items like pad thai, green, curry, spicy eggplant etc. and it comes with soup (tom ka or tom yum) or salad. They also offer rice plates and noodle dishes as part of their lunch specials menu. Our server was very attentive, and handled the lunch crowd with ease. I ordered the yellow curry with and eggplant dish in a spicy sauce with delicious tofu and rice. The food was good, 3.5/4 while the 5, star service and great prices will have me back soon. read more

Had an incredible lunch here today. First time here and the food and service was EXCELLENT. I parked in front and then proceeded on in. I was greeted right away and found a seat near the front window. I asked for water and then looked in the menu. They have a lunch special which is good because these meals are at a reduced price compared to the normal evening hours. I was looking for the Pad Kee Moa and found out that they do have it but it called Dragon Noodles here. AWESOME. After I had placed my order I took time to look around the restaurant. This is very fanciful. There is not too much color or over the top decoration. It almost seems like this place is a hidden gem in the sunset. Everything about the inside is peaceful and relaxing. Even the music being played in soothing. I had a very peaceful lunch here. When my food finally arrived I was ready and so was my stomach. The meal was hot and tasted incredible. It seems like every time I go to a new Thai restaurant the Pad Kee Moa gets better and better but the taste stays consistent. CONSISTENT TASTE IS KEEP!!! The meal was very pleasing and met all my hunger needs. The waitress was very attentive and nice. She refilled my water and checked on my food and myself. She did a phenomenal job of taking orders, greeting customers, seating customers, and bringing out the food. Super sweet and nice. These kinds of non verbal cues and actions will put BIG tips in her pocket. Kudos to her. This place can be a hit or miss in terms of delivering authentic Thai food, but they do a good job in delivering good customer service. We tried the mango curry, which comes with a side of rice, and the base was very delicious. There were noticeably many good chunks of mango to be found. We also tried the pineapple fried rice, which was a miss. It lacked seasoning, and the rice was a bit too crunchy for my liking. Small spot next to North Beach Pizza in Taraval Street, across from Walgreens. Tried their lunch special 2-item combo. Ginger chicken paired with spicy basil beef. Tasty. Ordered takeout; I tried to call before going over, but nobody answered, so I couldn't phone in my order. I had to wait about 25 minutes while they prepared my order. I ordered 2 orders of the Angel Wings, the spicy beef salad, stir fried veggies, the garlic pork, basil eggplant with chicken, and pad Thai with chicken. Both the Angel Wings and the beef in the salad were dry and overcooked. The garlic pork was good, as was the eggplant dish. The pad Thai was very bland and disappointing. It would have been good if the eggplant and pork could have been ordered as dishes by themselves, but they were only available as rice plates. This place is amazing, and tbh I wish it wasn't because now I'm going to be ordering take out way too often. I have a lot of dietary restrictions (veg with a wheat allergy oof) but I found plenty to eat on the menu because there were lots of options for tofu or for the dishes to be made veg. A rare thing about this restaurant is that everything that I tried, I loved. Usually there's at least one outlier but so far everything has been great. Here's what I've tried: Papaya salad - nice and refreshing, not spicy like some other places I've tried and leans more on the sweet side Tofu crispy basil - fried tofu with a sweet chili sauce, not spicy at all but very delicious and great texture on the tofu Spicy basil with tofu - so good! Softer tofu (not crispy) with great spicy flavor but not too hot if that makes sense. Like you can taste the flavor of the peppers without the burn haha. This one was my boyfriend's favorite! Basil fried rice with tofu - this is to die for. Definitely my favorite out of all the tofus dishes I've tried here. The rice is fried but not oily, the tofu is cooked perfectly and it is SPICY! Like that classic Thai spice you look for to warm you up on a cold and rainy San Francisco evening. Ok maybe that's just me and my love for Thai food but seriously this stuff is soooo good.
