Came here at 8am on Father's Day with husband and 8 month old son. We were greeted and seated promptly. The staff were all very attentive and friendly. Food was really good, I especially liked the waffle! Great menu selection and portions. Overall great place and I know we'll be coming back!!

Wait for a table wasn't too long. Service was friendly and efficient. Enjoyed the local art for sale on the walls and the eclectic tableware, mugs, & glasses. Food was good and filling! Syrup for the waffle came out warm in a mini ceramic pot!!

I enjoy checking out indie diners because I love breakfast! I recall two Varsity Inns, one in Ravenna (now as Ravenna Varsity - separate ownership) and this one over in Wallingford by Gasworks Park. After many decades of driving past and even briefly working nearby over 2.5 years ago, I finally scored a parking spot and checked it out the latter (9/27/23). It was a seat yourself spot with menus available at each table. Water and/or drip coffee is available when seated. Well worn, comfy indie restaurant, but with plentiful natural light despite the blustery weather that day. I decided to try their Corned Beef Hash with two overeasy eggs, hashbrowns, and whole wheat toast. Omg, that was a ginormous breakfast entree! About 2/3 of it was packaged to take home, an amazing bang for your culinary buck. Most notable was the personable gentleman who covered the host/reception stand, plus waited, served and bussed occupied tables. An amazing customer service feat and the ability to provide welcoming conversation with finesse. A great meal & convo that improved the rest of my day after a crazy, rainy commute to UW Seattle campus. Three great places for breakfast/brunch/lunch in the vicinity: Voula's, Mas Cafe, and Varsity Inn. Worthy recommended detour for a satisfying and filling meal!

Yum! Great food and ambiance. Wait on a busy holiday was not bad at all. The prices look scary then the food comes portions are huge! Made for great leftovers and could easily have shared. My only complaint was it took a while to get coffee, but they didn't mind us hanging out to let it cool and finish the cup.

Went there for lunch today. Philly was great and waitress did everything to accomodate me and my requests. Worth it for the service alone.

I don't believe they do. I've been eating there for years and it's always delicious. Blueberry pancakes are huge and full of berries.

We were unsure of how the restaurant worked because their is a cash register as well as servers. Very type B I must say but it works for them! The staff is so kind and even Ludi helps out around. We decided to head over here at 8 am on a Sunday, and there was STILL a line. Thankfully, the wait for us that early morning was only about 15 mins, but upon our walk out after eating, we noticed the line was nearly halfway down the block. Some people must have waited closer to an hour. Maybe show up as early as you can in the morning if you don't want to wait too long. We ordered the Corned Beef Silog, Combo Silog, and the Ube Pancake stack. The stack might look like a little, but even sharing it, we got really full. Those pancakes are DELICIOUS. Just make sure not to run out of the Ube syrup, or the pancakes themselves will be a little dry. We made that mistake, but the pancakes alone were still tasty. Highly recommend if you like taro-ish flavor or want something sweet. The food overall was delicious, it was about my second time trying lumpia and omg sooo good. One of the servers was kind enough to explain to us which part of the Philippines each of the sausages in the combo plate originates from. One was from the Northern part of the Philippines (think it's the Ilocos sausage, reddish color) and the other one was the classic longanisa. I got a calamansi juice and ommmgggg sooo delicious, I had never had it before, and now I've gotta figure out how to buy some to enjoy at home. The servers were all friendly and attentive, and the place itself was clean and inviting, with lots of nods to Filipino culture and the family that runs the restaurant. Highly recommend if you're looking for a good-quality, hearty Filipino breakfast. Depending on what you get, be prepared for a food coma afterward!

It's a little dark (window only on the street side), and it's seen better days. The staff seems friendly enough, but they are stretched thin, and it took a while for the server to take my order, then a while for the kitchen to actually produce it. The food was adequate, but nothing special: I had the Big Dipper breakfast & tea - in my case scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, hash browns, and a sausage patty. The hash browns were pretty standard, the scrambled eggs pretty standard, the sausage patty huge and greasy, and the two blueberry pancakes huge and very thick (a little heavy). It was a lot of food, more than I wanted to eat. They had a good variety of teas, but not the one I wanted (Earl Grey) so I settled for English Breakfast. There was nothing wrong with breakfast or the restaurant, but not much to get excited about either. I probably won't go back, but if I do, I'd expect the food to be adequate but not worth a special trip. Going out for breakfast is a pleasure, but when I pay restaurant prices for breakfast, I expect it to be a little more enjoyable than this was.

The location is cute (the usual Skillet decor and aesthetic) and the service was good. Everything else was super lackluster. I ordered the $13 Old Fashioned. I was served what looked like a taster. A tiny jar with a little whiskey (maybe 1oz) muddled with an orange slice, 2 Maraschino cherries, and simple syrup. It was overly sweet. Basically whisky infused fruit. Terrible value, I'd expect a lot more for the price. The Good Burger did not live up to its name. It was surprisingly dry (I ordered med rare, there was no pink). My girl friend ordered the chicken Caesar. The chicken was flavorless in dire need of seasoning. It also tasted soggy (like it was previously frozen).

The Cluck Chub 5/5 Let me start off by saying that this sandwich is absolutely massive and messy but also one of my favorite chicken sandwiches I've ever had. The patty was juicy and well-seasoned without being too salty. The other toppings like the bacon jam, bacon, lettuce, cheeses, etc complemented the sandwich well without overpowering anything. The grits were one of my favorites-- I can't seem to find lots of grits places in Seattle. With all of that being said, I will warn you that this sandwich is extremely messy so be prepared to clean up! Overall, the ambiance, food, and service was all very good but I will have to ding a star for the price. This sandwich was about $20 before tip which IMO is a bit on the pricy side for breakfast/lunch even in Seattle. I would probably still come back though :)
