Went there for lunch today. Philly was great and waitress did everything to accomodate me and my requests. Worth it for the service alone.

I've gone there countless times, okay lots of times, for breakfast. I always order a ha and cheese omelet and it's always been okay, not Beth's okay or the Voula's Offshore café okay, but okay. So I thought I'd give it another try. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet, sour dough toast and well done hash browns. I got, well done toast, a well done omelet and warm hash browns. I go to this place all the time with my 17 month old. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. They even thanked me for bringing in such a cute friendly kid. The food here isn't fancy but is consistently good. I'm a big fan of the bacon waffle. This is a great place for a traditional family breakfast. read more

The best that can be said is the food was edible and it didn't make me sick. Otherwise, the eggs I could have done better myself when hungover, the sausage links weren't really links they were mini-thumbs -- service was diffident -- a disappointment. I eat lunch here on average of once a week. The staff is friendly and always willing to offer recomendations. They have great sandwiches and burgers. My favorite sandwich is the Monte Cristo. They also have good mexican lunch food specials. read more

I often visit this place for nice & comfy breakfast or quick lunch. The food is kind of average but affordable. If you expect 5star gourmet, this isn't the spot. But most of all, I keep stopping by because of the friendliness of the ladies on the floor and not to mention, the place is clean. This place is straight fire. I get the same thing every time. Breakfast burrito with ham. THEY GIVE YOU TWO FIRST OF ALL. Plus a big side of hash browns, side of avocado slices, salsa, tomatoes, and sour cream. Love their service and very friendly people. read more

normally i am very picky aboutthe type of food i eat- either healthy, or super high quiality ingrediant... there are 2 things that will lead me stray from my path, tho: i love crappy chinese food, and greasy-spoon, diner-style breakfast. this is of the later, but not such low quality food that i was feeling guilty afterwards. and neither was my pocket book. amazingly quick and friendly service, great breakfast in hugh quantity (i had late lunch later, as well) all in a nice and bright setting with splendid service. let's just say i have found a new favorite place to have breakfast in seattle, and that they will be seeing a lot more of me in the future at the varsity inn :) read more

I've been here probably a couple of dozen times since my initial review, and it's so much better. I don't know what they changed but the hash browns are now fabulous. The weekday specials are a great deal. The staff are super nice. I'm particularly fond of the spinach mushroom omelette which has hollandaise on it. read more

Good food. Cute little breakfast spot in Ravenna. Service a little slow, but the staff is friendly. A lot of neighborhood regulars. Ordered a scramble with hash browns for $13 that were really tasty. Husband had the waffle, which was thin like a pancake, and had the same texture as a pancake but put into a waffle maker. I had the beef au jus. The beef seemed dry and tough. Our waitress was super friendly. The diner had a nice atmosphere. However, I don't think we'll be back. read more

Just ordered 3 Philly cheese steak sandwiches. There were almost zero green peppers or onion on them, pretty much meat and bread and cheese. Why I felt that I needed to post this review...... is that I asked the young gal if there were napkins and a fork because one of them had a salad she said yes they are in this bag. I had eaten here twice before about a year ago and liked the food. However, we came again last week and were totally disappointed. I don't know if they hired new cooks, but the food was terrible. We could have gone to Denny's and gotten a better meal cheaper (and we hate Denny's!). The mushroom and spinach omelette we ordered had no salt, pepper or anything to give it flavor. the mushrooms were not sauteed at all, completely raw, and in huge pieces. The hashbrowns were just boiled and barely fried on one side, once again with no salt. the waffle was decent but the pancakes completely dry. I have never reviewed a restaurant in my life, but I feel the need to hoping they might improve. My husband was a cook for 10 years and could not believe what they were selling. it's so easy to give a mushroom omelette flavor - just saute the mushroom with a little salt, pepper and onions, and add salt to your eggs!! read more

Forget everything you thought you knew about the Varsity. While I'd like to keep this low-key yet muy autentico dinner option a local secret, I also want to see these guys succeed, so listen up: the new Mexican dinner at the Varsity totally rules. This is no diner food - everything is fresh and carefully prepared, with complex, sophisticated flavors. But the diner setting provides great ambiance for kicking back with a Mexican beer and good food. From the short, simple menu, our group of four tried the tortilla soup (spicy, tangy, delicious), the quesadilla (which comes with an excellent guacamole), the chicken mole (HUGE portion, meat falling-off-the-bone moist and tender), and the carnitas (also ridiculously tender, with a refreshing cilantro sauce). My favorite pancakes! They are awesome--just the right thickness, crispy edges, tender center, no fake vanilla flavor. Yum!! Service is friendly and attentive, but not hovering. They keep my coffee cup filled. The breakfast burritos with chorizo remind me of breakfast burritos I had growing up in Texas. Also yum! They've had Carnitas as a special lately that have been tasty. Wanted to check out breakfast place near my house. The food was ok. My son had the light breakfast which had a egg,pancake and bacon. The pancake was as big as the plate. Not really a lite breakfast. Kids menu only for lunch not for breakfast which was too bad. I had eggs Benedict and the eggs were too hard and sauce was bland. It was more the service I wasn't happy about. Sat there awhile before getting our order taken. Waiter did not come back once to check on us after food came and after we were done we sat forever before plates were cleared. We had to go to front to get our bill as our waiter never came back. I mentioned to host/cashier about experience and he said "it's pretty busy today". The restaurant isn't that big and there were a few waiters so i think that was a poor excuse. I eat out alot and am definatley not going to go to that restaurant again which is too bad since it's so close. Overall Very impersonal experience. read more

We've been living here for a while now and I'm sad to say we don't make it down to the Varsity Inn often enough. I was able to show my sister and her boyfriend from MN around and we grabbed a late breakfast. All I can say is I LOVE the spicy sausage breakfast burritos they had on special at the time! I've never been so stuffed or so happy with diner food. It was ridiculously good. I would totally recommend this place whether you're hung over from a hard night out, or just wanting to grab a casual breakfast, lunch, or brunch. The service is terrific, the portions large, and the food tasty. I'm not looking for some wine-snob fare when I go to a diner, just good hearty eats, and that's exactly what they deliver. This place is completely ridiculous, they charge 5 bucks tips out of thin air from your credit card when they processing the card on themselves...not to mention the food itself for the price paid...totally dragged to this restaurant by a friend...and completely annoyed by their ways of charges and services...well, not going back there again for sure read more
