We've been here several times and always have great service and great food. If we lived closer we'd come back more often! The staff was friendly and helpful with my questions. Not only do they have the option, but it doesn't appear that they charge extra for it like most places do. They were friendly and quick and the pizza was delicious. Very disappointed. We drove all the way out for dinner on a Thursday night from Orting, after work. This is a place we have wanted to try for years. It took us about 45 minutes with the road construction to get there. Pulled into the parking lot at 7:40, ready to relax and unwind. We had no idea they closed at 8pm! My husband opened the door to walk inside the restaurant and we were told from the counter that they would only serve us take-out, as they were closing. No greeting of hello or anything. I ordered a meat pizza and it was so not worth the $26. It was super dry, was super crusty on seeds in the dough and the toppings kept falling off. Not to mention the meats were really greasy, like greasier than usual. Don't order from varsity. They suck. The only thing they get right is the drinks only because someone else made them. Overpriced and disgusting. Even frozen pizza like digiorno would be a better pick for Friday night. One of my family's go to pizza place here in Roy, WA. They have their original off Mountain Hwy, and in both places, the pizza has always been a hit. This time I ordered a half&half pizza with BBQ chicken/Varisty together! A great addition was the Varisty sticks which as by far our favorite pizza dessert! Fluffy sticks of dough, covered in cinnamon sugar, served with a warm side of creamy cream cheese frosting as a dip! Try this place out too if you love pizza! read more

Normally we enjoy their food as middle of the pack pizza and good grinders. I will revise my review to 4 stars if a manager addresses it. Made an order online tonight. Arrived at scheduled time. They had clearly not yet started the order. I was told it would be a few minutes. No apology at all. I'm not a total jerk, I understand places get busy, but if your "few minutes" is actually over 20 minutes I expect, at a minimum -a mumbled sorry. More appropriate would have been a more accurate estimate of time for the order and an offer of a free soda or cookie for the wait. read more

With delivery pizza we all know what to expect... a fair pizza. It's not the best but it's not the worst either. For the price during happy hour you cannot find a better deal. My husband loves pizza and it was our first time trying so we ordered a few $5 8in. Pizzas: basic cheese- well cooked and good amount of sauce/cheese, Taco Pizza- great toppings (the favorite!), Hawaiian Pizza- fine and chicken bacon ranch- fine. I also ordered the $5 garden salad which was simple but came with ample dressing of my choice (the ranch tasted fine). Based on quality and regular pricing I would not order this pizza. I'm sorry to give them a low rating because my first visits were initially pretty good a year or two ago, but the last two pizzas I've ordered to go from the McKenna location were both over-baked and the cheese was leathery and unpleasant. A pizza like this should never go out to a customer. The second time it happened, I had a couple of pieces simply b/c it was at least fresh, but threw away the rest of a large pizza. Best Pizza I have had in a looong time! Second time at this location. Last Summer in July we brought our adult kids and grandchild. We ordered two pizzas for dine in. Honestly, we would not have even known, but they said they made one of our two pizzas wrong, gave it to us along with the two we ordered. Who doesn't want three pizza's for the price of two? Aside from that it was a great to sit and enjoy our pizza fresh and hot in their casual dinning area on wooden tables. We had plenty for at least one more meal which was certainly an added bonus with three people visiting our home. My second more recent visit was spontaneous take out. We had just picked up our repaired car from Caliber who shares the parking lot and needed to make a quick stop at Walmart. So I called in our order of a large pepperoni pizza which was $22.00. Some times its best to keep it simple. Did our shopping at Walmart quickly returning to pick up our pizza which was indeed ready. Took it home reheated it to get it crisped back up after sitting in the box for 30 ish minutes. Even under those circumstances this pizza had so much flavor, nice thin crust, YUM! I told the girl on the phone THREE TIMES!! No mushrooms on the combination, that I'm allergic to them. They've screwed up twice in the past and added mushrooms anyway. I called in as my pizza was loaded full of mushrooms. The girl on the phone promises that she'll put a replacement in the oven and get it right over as soon as the driver comes back. The manager then has the audacity to call me back 15 minutes later and says "we checked the cameras; there were no mushrooms on your pizza" (?!). Basically called me a liar and said the driver went home already (store closed at 8, so they didn't want to deal with it). $47 plus tip for this treatment?! NEVER AGAIN. Go into Yelm to la Giatanna or Bertoglios. Varsity is overpriced for what you get anyway when they DONT screw your order up and accuse you of fraud. read more

McKenna location, After working 13 hour day on the weekend, we went there to get a quick meal that wasn't so quick, after an hour and a half wait, they realized we hadn't received our pizza yet, came to check on us and asked, you haven't got your pizza yet. When they finally brought our pizza out it was a small pizza and we had ordered a large, they then realize they had completely lost our our order. Really, how does that happen??? Honestly their pizza is pretty good--we've had some issues with a topping being wrong in the 5+ times we've ordered. That aside, I had to stop coming here because the staff stopped wearing masks a few months ago and still don't. I spent many years developing franchise owners throughout the West Coast for various pizza chains so I understand many ins and outs of the business. However I've been looking for a place like this for a long time. The staff was great. The Restaurant was relaxing enough to just chill and catch a ball game. The Pizza was great but needs a little bit attention to detail The dough is hand tossed so your pizza appearance will be variable from one to the next. The execution has been spot on so far. A tip for you reviewers when getting a pizza is making sure they aren't using old dough. If you ever get a pizza with a doughy crust edge that looks transparent or doesn't seem to tear properly send it back!!! . This place again so far seems to be good about that. My only suggestion when it comes to making the pizza is it needs to be cooked about a minute longer when its heavily topped item like a combo. The ingredients look all to be fresh and tasted amazing. Seriously that truly makes a difference and this place has it 100% right. My only gripe- the manager or owner needs review sanitation. If you staff with one or two people who handle money/phone orders/ customer etc. and they cross train to make food they need to wash their hands or wear gloves when making the pizza's- wings etc. I'm a realest, but it has to be done. I truly hate to rate a local small business with a poor score, but feedback is important. Service was great, so this rating is solely based on my preferences and personal opinion of their pizza. The Pizza had no taste, at all, and the dry crust overpowers the very thin layer of toppings. It was possibly the worst (non frozen pizza) I have ever had in my 50 year old life .Again, it's just my opinion (based on my tastes), I think everyone should at least try to see if it meets their expectations. Don't ask for delivery after 6pm. Had to call 3 times to get someone on the phone and once they finally took me off hold after 3 attempts I wanted to place an order for delivery. They replied, "it's a two hour wait." At which I replied, "That is fine." At which point they replied, "Well we can't deliver that late." ..........why would you inform your customers that it's a two hour wait and then immediately respond with that. Regardless, this is only one of many instances where there services have been rendered terrible. Good luck getting them to actually find your home. On one occasion they were so lost that they had to call us three times to find the correct address. 3 TIMES! -The pizza is so sub par that a simple Pizza Hut would have less grease, and would more than likely not look like some kid kicked it all the way to my door. -The wings are always cold, and let me state that we live a total of 3 miles from this location. - The worst offensive is their salads, dry and tasteless. I have never gone into this establishment due to the fact if I am going out there are far better places in Yelm to grab a nice dinner. The pizza has everything anyone could want in the sauce, toppings and the cheese. Once cooked not greasy as other places are. The flavor and the thickness of the crust is excellent. Just walked in 50 mins before they close to buy a pizza for dinner. The lady cleaning made it clear that they're closing in less than an hour and there is a party of 10 coming in. We told them we only wanted to order pizza and again she made it clear that there is a party of 10 coming in. We turned around and walked out and as we were walking out she said, "We can fit you guys in." It was obvious that she didn't want a party of 10 and our family in there. This varsity has been going downhill for a few months now. We use to order every weekend up until recent. We gave them another try today and they couldnt get our order right again! We picked up as they couldn't deliver for some reason at the time... We ordered 2 pizzas one pan and one deep dish. We were given the excuse that the deep dish pan wasn't cleaned properly and had to wait another 30min. No big deal! Get the deep dish pizza and it is the smallest medium pizza we had ever seen. Cheesey gooey yummy meltiness! The crust was not to thin and not thick, but foldable at the same time. The meat portions on the varsity was gerenous, and flavorful. I had varsity on mountain hwy once before and I'm glad we made the gamble to go to the new store. Not to mention, those wings were on point. This will be a great group location, they serve beer too.
