I'm new to the Roy area from Federal Way, I'm looking for a sports bar to watch the NFL Draft live, get some grub and a couple pints... 1) The sign looked like a sports bar (sports and beer signs in the window) it's not, it's a small Round Table Pizza that serves beer, bring me to my next point. 2) Very limited beer selection, did not have my popular favorites Mannys or Mac and Jacks. And my beer was a good 2 inches below rim level :( 3) the pizza (personal size) took a little too long to get to me despite the empty seats around. I'd estimate 15-20 min for an 8" pizza. 4) I chose the seat near one of the televisions and put my arm in crumbs and spilled beverage of some sort. Someone notice and came to clean it quickly, leaving a clean but saturated table for me to finish drying. 5) he draft was on.. but the volume was down?! I understand that some places may not want to have the volume up during all hours of the day, but a 'sports and pizza' place should know to turn on the volume for the NFL Draft in Seahawks country.. or maybe not? 6) All this but I was still going to give their food a chance but...The pizza wasn't even good! Too much white sauce, was dripping from under the cheese. It was good at first but began to make me nautious, not to mention the weird odor that the spinach had... What the neck? Honestly, I won't go back. They did have some cool decorations and sport memorabilia, but their sense of decor may be about all the have going for them :/ Oh, and they never ID'd me.. Love their pizza! They even make personal pizzas. Just enough for 1 person. Everyone is very nice and service is great.

Been here 4 times in the past month, tried many of the pizzas, the calzones, and the grinder sandwiches. Top notch meats and cheeses on all of them, and the crust is very good for such a small "chain" pizza place. (2 locations). Every time I bring pizzas back into the big city from here, people rave about how good and unique they taste. I would highly recommend anyone to try it, but don't expect your typical bland national brand pizzas. They have many unique flavor combinations and the ingredients are some of he best I've ever tasted. My favorite pizzas are the signature Varsity pizza, and the Buffalo Chicken pizza. The grinder sandwiches satisfy like none other l, for a very affordable price. Leftovers from here are rare, but are always sought after if they do make the journey home. I rarely see those leftovers the next day however....someone always finds them in the fridge and devours them, before I can get back to enjoy them. read more

I do love the pizza here. We order a different one every time and it's always good. The cheesy bread is phenomenal. He only thing I might want done differently is the amount of grits used on the dough. It's a bit much. But still good. The reason I gave 3 stars was because of the restaurant itself. It SHOULD be a sports bar/restaurant. I mean, it's called Varsity Pizza. But the ambience in there is similar to that of a high school cafeteria with all those fluorescents. Dim it down a bit and make it a place you would want to sit and have a beer and some pizza. Plus there's no bar area to just go and sit for drinks while you watch a game or something. And about the tvs. They are usually tuned in to some game, but they always have music going and the volume on the tv down. What is that? And the last gripe I have is the people working there. They take your order and if you dine in they bring you your pizza. But that's about it. Need a plate? Get up and get it yourself. Need silverware? Get up and get it yourself. And the employees are behind the counter bullshitting with each other, on their phones, etc. At least enclose the kitchen area, because being stared at by employees while you're eating is super awkward. I love Varsity Pizza! Great recipes for any pizza! The sandwiches are great too! Being a neighbor to this business (I am from Bliss Experience 2 doors down), we frequent them a lot!! Lol! We've even had birthday parties and meetings there. Sometimes they get super busy, but even tonight when my pizza seemed to take extra long to be ready, they were very apologetic. I could clearly see they were very busy, but the extra apology was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend!! My favorite: Gluten Free Garlic Chicken. read more

We had our daughters 14th birthday party here a week and a half ago. The staff is AMAZING!! Particularly Keri May, she and the rest of the staff made our experience perfect. Typically when you walk into a restaurant with a handful of adults and a fastpitch team of giggling girls the staff try to hide, I think they hope that we will leave:) I called ahead and they had a section reserved for us. They let us bring in our own cake and decorations. The girls had so much fun laughing and joking and eating some amazing pizza. I ordered several but my favorite one was the Buffalo Chicken!!! Hands down the best pizza I e had in a while and we eat lots of pizza!! Second up was the garlic chicken, that was a parents fav with all the veggies! The kids devoured the cheese and pepperoni pizzas and the men, well they lived the meat eater go figure;) I ordered bread sticks, chicken wings...and a couple other appetizers. The only reason there were any leftovers was because I ordered too much, everything looked good!! I'm craving the buffalo chicken pizza as I type. I forgot a lighter for the birthday candles and a staff member was nice enough to go get one for me earning the staff the rest of our triple fudge birthday cake. They had a nice assortment of beers for some of the parents and they appreciated that:) But the grated Parmesan that took the pie was all of the local sports memorabilia!! I've been going to this varsity for years now and always refer my friends and new people I meet. Given that most people I refer are military and new to the area, from now on I will advise them to stay clear from this place! The main reason for this is their very poor customer service! The last few times I've ordered the kids working there obviously did not care to interact with customers and the one girl was using her phone while seemingly training the kid with tattoos at the cashier (10/18/19). For a local place it's kind of overpriced and the pizza is mediocre. The boli bites are the only decent option there. I'd rather go to Pizza Hut or dominoes where pizza is better and no matter how busy they are they take the time to greet you with a smile on their face! read more

I'm usually happy with the pizza at both locations. Eatonville and Mckenna, but this is the second time I've been disappointed in the pizza at the Mckenna store. Overcooked, almost burned. Crust is like chewing on shoe leather. I'll be sticking with the original store on mountain highway after tonight's food. Wow! Their pizza was amazing! I didn't know we had a new pizza place just outside of McKenna. And they deliver to Clearwood!! Their delivery guy didn't get in until 4:30 so you must wait until dinnertime if you want delivery. But the pizza is worth it. We had the Buffalo Chicken which was a taste bud explosion in your mouth! I could have attempted devouring the whole pizza! Thank The Lord everyone else loved it too. I have ordered for delivery a few times, their pizza and everything else that I ordered was great, really good customer service on the phone and the delivery drivers are also great. The prices for what you get are also really fair. I would recommend trying them, my wife even likes them over any other big chain pizza that delivers here in Yelm. read more

Glad they're here. Had been to the Eatonville location a few times and was excited to hear they were opening in our area. Pizza and wings are always on point, never skimpy with the toppings. The Big Kahuna and The Varsity are great choices for Pizza. Servers and Staff provide a friendly atmosphere and are always seeking please and more than willing to change the channel or turn up the volume if asked. Their support of local athletics and clubs and the owner is very willing to work with them to raise $$. I would recommend this place without hesitation to locals as well as anybody thats passing through. THEY DO IT RIGHT. read more

Second time we tried Varsity pizza. Tried couple years ago, should have remembered there is a reason we hadn't gone back. Ordered pepperoni pizza and garden salad . The salad was a basic and generic, nothing to special. The pizza was bland. The sauce and pizza lacked flavor . Even Pizza Hut has better flavor than this. read more

In general, I love varsity pizza. That being said, today I ordered their taco pizza for the first time. Taco pizza is my all-time favorite pizza, and I was really excited to see they had started making it. I wish I hadn't ordered it. It was by far the worst taco pizza I've ever eaten. WAY too salty, very little taco meat and what there was was cooked in its own grease with taco seasoning dumped in before it was drained, a scant handful of lettuce and even less tomatoes thrown on top. There was no pizza sauce underneath the cheese as you would expect, and they drizzled something that tastes more like a bad salad dressing than taco sauce on top. Not a hint of cheddar or Monterey Jack, either., just the usual mozzarella. I threw $30 worth of pizza in the garbage You guys need to jump in the car and take a road trip down to Centralia to Papa Pete's, order their taco pizza and then come back home and make it right. read more

Can't give a fair review because they have yet to let me eat there. Went in at opening time, doors were locked. Waved to the man inside and he ignored us so we left. This is one of the best pizza in the Yelm area. The people are friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for an awesome pizza. We have been here twice and both times have been great. We tried their Greek salad last time we were there and it had the freshest veggies, and a great tasting dressing. Last night we had the sausage pizza and it was very good. Ordered the Greek salad, a Chop salad and 10 wings. Lettuce was fresh, toppings were very sparse. Hubby's Chop salad got the feta cheese that should have been on my Greek salad and I got a sprinkling of Mozzerella cheese on my salad. No meat on my salad and a couple pieces pepperoni on his. I have lived in Yelm my entire life. When Varsity Pizza opened my family would go there constantly. Usually pretty good pizza (about 4 stars every time) with the occasional pizza having the wrong toppings, etc we would always just call them and they would offer help and apologies. I can say after eating here for the past couple of years that the quality has gone increasingly worse not only with their pizzas but with their customer service. My family had ordered a BBQ chicken pizza for a 8 year old's birthday party. As people started to eat there were size-able pieces of bone within the chicken. Many of us were disgusted but also realize mistakes happen. This has happened multiple times but this time it was enough to make the kids and adults lose their appetites. I haven't had the time to call them about it because, life to be completely honest. The incident happened a couple of weeks ago, so I called today thinking that they would at least apologize and maybe offer some type of compensation for their negligence. When I called the woman who answered was incredibly rude and basically said there was no way they could assist me. What? I am so appalled by this. Never ordered from Varsity & I called to order a pizza & first asked if they have any specials today & the girl who answered the phone said to me "what do you mean"? So I explained I was wondering if they have any specials on pizza, wings, on food and she was silent then she said it depends on what you want? At this point I'm very confused and the girl was extremely rude and not willing to help or answer any questions. I said we will order somewhere else and hung up. My husband told me to call back & ask for a manger which I did and spoke to another rude young girl who listened to what I told her how the conversations went but instead of offering help she rudely told me that the other girl I spoke to was new & I said I understand being new but she doesn't know if you have specials? I gave one star because I didn't have the choice to give zero. I live in Yelm and I have been a frequent and loyal customer since the location in McKenna opened. I have a large family of seven and we have spent a lot of money at your restaurant, I ordered 3 large pizzas and an order of cheesy bread at 7pm on Monday night. I was told that the pizza would be delivered at 7:30pm or 7:45pm at the latest. I received a call at 8:00pm from the restaurant saying that the delivery driver got "caught up" at his last location and he still had to go back to the restaurant to pick up the pizza and then deliver it . There was not an apology given or any concern from the employee regarding the situation. I live about 15 minutes from town and was concerned that by the time the pizza was delivered it would be cold. When I called the restaurant to speak with the manager, I had the absolute worst customer service that I have ever encountered. I was told that the pizza had not even been made yet and they have bags to keep them warm. She acted like it was a ridiculous concern. She also said that we need to allot for travel time and they just got busy and that she didn't know what else to say that it just "is what it is", I was honesty flabbergasted by the entire conversation. When I hung up I was so upset I decided that I did not want the pizza anymore. I called and asked to speak to her again and told her to cancel my order and I wanted to make sure that the card was not charged. She said that she would have to talk to her boss because she did not know if my card could be refunded. She was so rude the entire time she never once apologized for anything but for the fact that I DID NOT UNDERSTAND like I am some idiot or something. I am so disappointed my family and I love your pizza but I will never spend another dime there due to this situation. I hope that something is done about this employee. I am sure that I am not the only customer that has been treated this way and if that is the case the business will go down hill really quick. Disappointed. While my husband and I love pizza our son does not. Our son however loves their cheesy bread when made properly. We usually order the cheesy bread with extra cheese for him. Recently we placed an order for pick up. When I arrived to pick it up there was only one employee. She was apparently waiting for other staff to arrive. My order was ready in a few minutes and we were on our way home after a long afternoon. Sit down to dinner, open the cheesy bread and was disappointed that they had indeed forgot the "extra cheese". Now usually this wouldn't be an issue but you see with their bread, if you don't order extra cheese it's like garlic flavored cardboard. Not good. But with extra cheese, it's yummy and gooey like it should be. I called the restaurant to let them know they forgot to make it how I asked and all I got was "Oh ok. I can let the manager know for you". Insert -____- here. No offer to make another one, or give me a credit for a future order. Nothing. Not great customer service in my opinion. Now I wasn't looking for a freebee but I expected some acknowledgement that I was a dissatisfied customer. read more
