I got my cleaning today at Dr. Vatan's office. I found him on Yelp last week 11/1/2020. I called his office to book an appointment for cleaning and retainer removal. After booking my appointment. I received a call from the Dr. himself to ask about my oral health and how I was feeling. He assured me that his office was taking special Covid protocols to keep his staff and patients safe. I was worried about insurance coverage and Donielle (Office manager) worked with me on a great deal. His office is very clean and comfortable with new dental equipment. My situation was dire. I woke up 4 days before my wedding with an enormous cold sore. I didn't know what to do and, luckily for me, my Mom found Dr. Vatan. The receptionist was so nice and able to get me in the next morning. The doctor used a laser on the cold sore and burned that sucker right off. By my wedding day, only 3 days later!, my cold sore was completely gone other than a red mark that could be easily covered with makeup. If you suffer from cold sores, you know that even a week is lucky to get to this point. I simply can't thank the doctor and his team enough. I had a filling that fell out and needed replacing, plus other concerns when I initially made my appointment. I found this dentist (Dr Vatan) on the Yelp so I had good hopes. I had the initial missing filling replaced, plus had 2 other fillings replaced. I have dental anxiety so of course I was sweating bullets when I walked in and the entire time I was there. Pain was extremely minimal -- sans numbing shots -- and this was a very, very pleasant surprise! For one filling replacement I was able to use waterlase and that, although a bit of an awkward new experience, was quite easy, pain free, and... Relaxing? I'm not sure how to say this but the "tapping" sound was rhythmic and hypnotic and made me think of the sound of flipping vegetables in a sautee pan. If I had to sit any longer for it I'm pretty sure I would have fallen asleep. The only thing slightly unnerving was using a metal tool to make sure any and all decay was removed -- that was unrelated to the waterlase, and more related to the thought of "sharp metal thing in my mouth". The other 2 replacements were done via old fashioned drill due to their placements. I'm sure the sharp whine and feeling of skull vibration is unpleasant for everyone, but for me it's a terrifying experience (thanks to the old battle hard dentist I went to as a kid). When these 2 were done I didn't feel any pain and was able to tolerate the experience without white knuckling the chair handles. This was also a nice change -- going from "Oh dear God get this over with!" to "That's wasn't exactly horrible!" I went home with half my mouth numb, fillings patched, and a better feeling about going to the dentist. Instead of having a feeling like I just had to hang my head and get it over with, I felt rather confident in my choice to come here and will definitely come again for future dental visits. I'm scheduled for a cleaning in a few days and I feel a bit more relaxed about the procedure due to my first experience here. Relaxing, pain free, and a better experience than any other dentist I've gone to. read more

I have been very happy with my care here thus far. There are so many reasons I have to go to the dentist but I have been having a hard time finding one that I feel good about for my long term care . My first visit I had ex rays and a consult. A lot of times they are actually painful due to the positioning and it is a big deal for me , that being said his assistant was kind and careful and wasn't rushing it . Fast forward to my visit yesterday , the Dr. came in and he was calm and kind and very reassuring that it would be ok . I had to have 3 teeth pulled and I was so nervous about the Novocain shot because they have been so painful in the past . He made these injections painless and the most pain free shots I've ever had at any dentist . That really tipped the scales for me . The whole team there has been very helpful! I received a very fair price for my extractions and buildup. It's only been 24 hours after my visit but I am not in a lot of pain at the moment . I am a little shocked actually. This place must buy 5-star reviews because the staff is a total disaster. Vatan Dental Group came to my job, mentioned they took my insurance, and told me to come check them out. I did. I drove to this place and took time off from work only to find out their staff doesn't do their job. They didn't take my insurance and told me I'd be a private pay/cash patient. I provided all my personal info and confirmed i was all set ahead of time to avoid something like this from happening. The staff pointed fingers at each other. After talking to the dentist, who seemed nice, I felt uncomfortable that someone would review fees with me. Thankfully, they didn't charge me for the waste of time (though i took time off from work). There's parking onsite but they don't validate ($6.00). Facilities and equipment look old and outdated. Uncomfortable experience overall. Not the kind of place i'd want to go. in response to your comment below: Again, I believe you and your staff should communicate. 1) I was considering another dentist and your office manager recruited me to come after confirming your office took my insurance. 2) When i made my appt, i asked that your office check my coverage beforehand because i wanted to do a filling procedure. I'd have no interest in getting an "examination" or take time off work to find out my insurance is not accepted at your office. I knew exactly what i was going there for. I also don't understand why i'd want to pay for a fraction of the cost as a private pay when i could use my dental coverage elsewhere. Mind you, the reveal of costs took place after i sat down on the chair (not a good time to review costs btw). I appreciate you reaching out but I fail to see where you and your office have taken honest responsibility for your mistake. Instead, everyone is pointing their fingers at each other and i know exactly what happened. The miscommunication rests with you and your team. My heroes!! Everyone is lovely; from the front office, to the assistants, and the doctor is beyond beautiful inside and out. After being turned away from 12 offices--with a jaw the size of a baseball and 10/10 pain, mind you--these folks were like angels that descended from the heavens and brought me to salvation. He knew what the problem was--aside from our broken healthcare system--loaded me up with local, prescribed we with antibiotics and some medicine for pain. I was out of worms for 3 days, but I did not care. They did. For me. They were amazing and if I could give seven stars, I would give ten. I came here due to the great Yelp reviews but I did not have the same experience that everyone else had here with Dr. Vatan. He ran late on all of my appointments, as if my time is somehow less important. A 4-5 appointment quickly turned into 4-6:30 and he was still trying to squeeze in a filling. His assistant was fitting my crown and I did not like that at all. He was very rough and i had no idea what was going on the whole time. Communication goes a long way here. After all, the reviews i read on Yelp are for the doctor and not for his assistant. I really don't mind an assistant doing the cleaning but this was a crown. I did let him know that I was not happy that the appointments were running so late, to no avail. I was held hostage at my last appointment and frankly lost my patience. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Vatan for several years and have always felt he is very personable, yet professional. There have been many opportunities where I've had him suggest better means to perfect my smile, educate me on dental hygiene or simply affirm my day-to-day dental care. He's always positive, even when I forget (or don't) floss and allows me to feel comfortable visiting the office without judgment. The financial team has always been helpful with processing my Delta dental insurance and working with me on my FSA paperwork, so I've not really worried about that aspect of it. I actually have spent more time with my dentist than my physician, but I haven't minded. Usually, I don't care to deal with these sorts of items, but I feel comfortable coming here and welcoming. Parking is a pain. The office building has a cash-only garage, but no validation. I suppose it may be easy enough to park on the street around the neighborhood, but the cross-streets of Hawthorne and Sepulveda are too busy to really try looking for parking there. Have someone pick you up, if possible. Closed on Friday, which may be a problem for some, but I've had two occasions where a temporary crown had come off late in the evening and Dr Vatan personally spoke with me and addressed the issue immediately. All things considered, no one really can say they look forward to seeing the dentist, per say, but I feel comfortable with Dr. Vatan and his team and will continue to have him as a partner for my dental health. read more
