I have not physically been to this location. I called on Sunday night re: my cat who has a bladder stone and is scheduled for surgery next Monday with her vet in Forest Hills. I dropped my cat off at my parents since I have to be away for work. My mom told me she isn't urinating as she should and I panicked. I called this hospital and Dr.Gunzel answered the phone. She is SUPER friendly, easy going and didn't make me feel uncomfortable when asking so many questions. She helped ease my concerns, told me what to look out for and spoke about alternative options for treatments. I am so thankful that I got to speak with this angel who helped ease my anxiety. If I lived in the area I would feel confident to bring my Kitty Purry at this location. read more

The staff is very rude. I read some of the 1 star reviews and the one thing that keeps popping up is how rude and unprofessional the staff is. I brought my dog there on monday 7/31, she had a sore on her paw that she kept on licking until it got infected. easy, right? maybe give her a shot of antibiotic and medication to take home. the doctor wanted to take blood to test for the specific type of infection she had, ($330 for the test which I declined), rather than give her the antibiotics and see how she does. they also gave me a solution that I had to mix and soak her paw twice a day. Today I called to verify how long I needed to keep soaking her paw. after 10min on hold i was told i had to make another visit with my vet (or at VEG) to follow-up on her condition. I never did get to speak to the vet as I was told she was the only doctor there that day. then, when I asked to speak with her, I was told she was in a meeting......really. All I wanted was a simple response, a week, 2 weeks, see how it looks. but I never got to speak with the doctor, only the rude receptionist. I NEVER had this type of experience with ANY other vets office. In all fairness, the medical care was adequate , typical of any modern urban vet clinic, but I felt the emphasis was on charging and doing unnecessary testing rather than treating my dog as efficiently and economically possible, which sadly has become the norm at some vet clinics these days. I put VEG at the very bottom of my "go to" list, a tie with Oradell animal hospital. customer service, do you get tired of responding to all these negative reviews? maybe it's time to clean house.... read more

I created a Yelp account specifically to write this review - I really wish I could give more than five stars. I called VEG first and was immediately put in touch with a vet. After listening to my concerns, she recommended that I bring my dog in and sent a check-in link via text. We were brought in as soon as we arrived, and from the moment we walked in the door, the staff was so kind and compassionate and knowledgable. They sat on the floor with me and my dog and really took their time explaining what was going on, what they were doing, and why. We had a little emergency with our Frenchie that we thought may of required him to go see a vet. We called to see what the deal was and they offered to put a vet on the phone before we decided. She had us send pictures and walked us through everything. Eventually we both decided it wasn't necessary for him to come in tonight. I couldn't be happier with the help and customer service they provided us. We will 100 percent make this our go to emergency vet if need be. Now that I've had a few hours to compose myself, I wanted to write my experience. I called at 6:11am because my sweet girl Carly was having trouble breathing and I had a feeling it was her heart. The receptionist asked if I wanted to speak to a doctor. She suggested doing that to see if I could hold off until my vet would open. After speaking Dr Amber Roth, we decided she needed to come in. Unfortunately, she was in heart failure . Dr Roth was caring while being realistic. She didnt suggest a lot of unnecessary tests . This is something I experienced in the past. I had to make the horrible decision that every pet owner has to make. They made sure that she was comfortable and in no pain. Even with me in hysterics , they comforted and consoled me. I was allowed to stay with her as long as I wanted. I am so thankful to Dr Roth and her staff who made an unbearably hard moment in my life a little easier. I will forever be grateful read more

we took our sick cat here and it was a cold night. they quickly took him in and we called them to fill out information on our cat. a little over an hour later, the doctor called and said our cat is stable, but will have to run a couple of tests to rule out what it could be. dr. rodriguez told us what she though it could be. she also took the time out to go over the tests she wanted to take and why it was necessary. she also told us to home while the tests were being done as it will take 2-3 hours. 2-3 hours later, we got a call back from the doctor and she gave us an update. usually our cat is crying on the ride home, but this place took such good care of him that he didn't make a sound. our cat was clean and happy...they really took such good care of him that i wish they were my cats actual doctor. read more

But I sincerely couldn't have asked for anyone better then Dr. Cho, Doris and their team to support us through it. I called them on a Sunday at 7pm because I found a baby bird in the middle of the sidewalk. It was 90 degrees outside and I could not just leave this poor little thing to die on its own. I called the veterinary emergency group hoping that they could help (I was even willing to bring the bird in myself) but all they told me was to call animal control who was closed. I can't imagine that they didn't already know this though. I feel so angry that these people who have studied for situations like this and get paid thousands of dollars, could have so little empathy. I was left on my own to try and help the bird out with the little resources that I had. I would think twice before bringing your pets here because clearly all they care about is making a buck. read more

This is by far the most unprofessional vetinarien clinic I have ever been to in my entire life by far. I brought my dog in on Halloween of 2021 and from the moment we walked in the I realized this was going to be a pure nightmare because the 2 girls behind the desk were literally useless and provided little information if any and seemed to have to ask another person regarding any and every question we had for them. It just got worse from there because I realized that the entire clinic was the size of a studio apartment in NYC. They asked us to come into the back medical area and there were people packed in this tiny spot and at least 8-12 other dogs so as they were performing the initial test such as temperature and overall checkup there were other dogs literally 4 inches away from us and vet techs pass directly in front of us the entire time so my poor dog was very ill and could find absolutely no comfort at all. As I mentioned it was Halloween and the staff was allowing random people from the street walk in and out the entire time trickatreating and many had dogs with them so every time the door opened every dog in the waiting room started barking and getting excited and let me remind you this is IN THE MIDDLE OF A GLOBAL COVID19 PANDEMIC! ABSOLUTE INSANITY when you welcome in all children and parents as well as dogs just to give them a piece of candy. SMH Also there are NO Private rooms for the dogs to be examined so after waiting about 3 hours the doctor came out and provided a preliminary report and told us my dog probably had lymphoma and she did this in the public waiting room!! So as I'm starting to tear up and my mother in law is crying her eyes out this is taking place in front of 7-8 other people with their pets which is so unprofessional I actually had a hard time believing anyone would do this. To top it off she had the compassion of a dictator and seemed like she really didn't want to be bothered unless we chose to put him on a radiation therapy and start medications that day.... If you care about your pet I would advise you to stay far away from this place because I believe there are hospitals in Calcutta that are better qualified to treat your pet. Went to see them after a bad experience at Veterinarian Care in Jersey City. They helped my dog feel better right away. He hadn't been eating and the other vet just wanted to give him pills, buy their dog foid and come back when they call us. VEG gave him fluid pack and medicine to help with nausea. All staff, vet and vet techs and front office staff were kind and compassionate. Highly recommend if you have an emergency. read more

I am in love with the vet tech, kindest human ever. Today was rough I had to put my beloved dog of 15 years to sleep. The Dr on call was exhausted we were her last patient. I would have expected more kindness and empathy but she has also been up all night. In the end they did right my me and my pup. Thank god for this emergency hospital! My dog Wynston aspirated after surgery elsewhere and was not doing well afterwards. They saw him immediately and were at the door when we arrived. The wonderful Vet developed a treatment plan and updated me as to his progress- I never felt worried because she was so detailed. They even arranged a seamless transfer to their Clifton location for some further treatment. He looked so much better after one night in their care that I am confident he is on the road to recovery. Everyone there is very helpful and kind and thorough. I'm happy and grateful to have them in my neighborhood. read more

I can not recommend Veterinary Emergency Group enough! I unfortunately had to bring my dog in for a breathing issue early this morning and was seen right away. All of the staff was so kind and knowledgeable about what was going on with my dog. I have never seen her so calm at the vet before, but thankfully she was so comfortable with Dr. Serra and the vet techs there. The whole visit lasted under 30mins, and we were sent home with care instructions and additional information regarding my dogs allergies and "reverse sneezing". I've waited an entire year to process my thoughts and to write a review for this emergency vet. I went in with my cat, who was clearly suffering, the vet offered me little to no explanation of what was wrong with my pet other than he was suffering. I was quoted a 2k+ bill and was told that I would have to euthanize in the morning at another vet - unless I wanted to do that evening. In an attempt to show my cat mercy, I opted to put him to sleep that night rather than prolong his suffering. The vets bedside manner was garbage, she instructed her vet tech to get more euthanasia because they had given him the wrong dosage. The tech found her cell phone more interesting and approximately 5 minutes later came back with the additional euthanasia. My cat had taken his last breath moments earlier, suffering to the very end. I was sobbing uncontrollably, I was offered absolutely zero comfort. Once the tech returned with the syringe, the vet decided it would be an excellent idea for them to shave my dead cats leg and administer the euthanasia to his lifeless body as practice for the tech- RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I do not recommend this vet group to anyone, I still cannot handle walking past this establishment and have felt guilt everyday since bringing him there. read more

If you want your pet misdiagnosed take them to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) at 1327 Willow Ave in Hoboken, NJ. Yesterday 7/19/21 my cousin and I took his 3mo old teacup yorkie to VEG. She was whining, limp and not doing well. When we arrived they immediately started Chloe on fluids. The doctor tells my cousin that Chloe is gravely ill and she would have to stay overnight. I asked how could he make that assessment and she just got here? He said in his medical experience he could tell by looking at her. Then they put her in an incubator because the doctor said she needed oxygen. The receptionist brings a printed copy of an itemized bill. She's explaining everything Chloe will need to have done. Then she asks about payment. She referred Care Credit to cousin. She told him to apply to Care Credit and Scratch Pay. While applying he kept going in checking on Chloe. While were outside talking the receptionist asked if he was approved and I told her no. She says she had to speak to the doctor to let him know. My cousin goes back in and comes right back out and he's furious. The doctor tells him they need to put Chloe to sleep. I asked him how can he say that and he never took an xray? I asked him if he had gotten the blood work test results back yet? He said he never did the blood work. I was confused because he told us he'd know more when he got the test results from the blood work back. He tells us that the treatment he was giving her so far was free. He couldn't do anything without knowing he would get paid. Then he stressed to us again that Chloe was deteriorating and she needed to be out to sleep. We look over at Chloe and she's shaking violently. My cousin opened the door to the incubator and it was freezing inside so he took her out. He wrapped her in the hospital blanket to try and warm her up. The doctor stresses we should leave her because she's only going to get worse and she needs to be put to sleep. My cousin said well if Chloe's going to die then she'll die at home. My cousin said that because he knew that doctor was lying. The doctor was very persistent about Chloe staying. Something felt very weird about the whole situation. Before we left he gave us Clavamox. I couldn't understand why he would be giving an antibiotic for a dying dog as he put it. Shady I tell you. We took Chloe and left. I called a veterinarian in Bayonne, NJ. I explained what was going on with Chloe. He said make sure she has plenty of fluids, and give her a little honey. He said her blood sugar was low. When we got her home she ate, drank water and we gave her the honey. She was running around playing, biting, barking and having fun. Chloe played until 2:30am, pretty cool for a dog who needed to be put to sleep. My opinion is the doctor was trying to keep Chloe. He was stressing hard about her staying overnight and needing to be put to sleep. I feel like if we were dumb enough to leave Chloe overnight, we would've gotten a call saying she died. I believe she would've been given something to appear like she was dead and recommended a cremation. In terms my cousin would've been given some ashes and someone would've had Chloe. I realized later when my cousin brought Chloe to us, she was seizing. Her jaws were locked, tongue out a little and a glassy look in her eyes. She wasn't moving but she wasn't dying. She was like that when we brought her to VEG. I don't trust that doctor and I would never recommend anyone bring their little furry family members to them. I believe it was some shady mess going on yesterday. Unfortunately for VEG we're not naive and stupid. Sorry doc, you won't be keeping Chloe. Nice try... read more

I went to this emergency vet when my dog suffered a front paw injury. They were incredible from the first phone call to the check in after the check up. They were patient and compassionate knowing that I was worried about my dog. I was taken in immediately and was allowed to be present with my dog for every procedure outside of the X-ray (understandable with radiation). They provided detailed instructions for care following the visit and were decently priced. It's an Vet ER. I knew I would be paying a lot but my dog was worth it. I only wish we could use the same staff for our everyday care. Absolutely loved this place and highly recommend! read more

I credit Dr. Roura with saving my dog Jumbie's life. We brought him in as he was having trouble breathing. He was quickly evaluated and diagnosed with congestive heart failure and was in critical condition. There was no waiting, with our approval, Dr. Roura immediately started treatment. She was knowledgeable, professional and compassionate. We were able to speak with her multiple times throughout the day so we were up to date on Jumbie's progress. With her hours of attention, followed by Dr. Roth's great medical care overnight, Jumbie was healthy enough to come home. He is now back to his big personality self. Great emergency vet! They were safe with COVID Protocol and meeting me to get my dog outside. They had me complete form through my phone which was super convenient and also the Vet's were amazing to walk me through the care process for my pup and the medication and healing I needed to do at home. My dog was gravely ill when we brought him into the VEG facility. Honestly, we weren't sure he would make it. He spent 4 nights in the hospital before we had to discharge him for financial reasons. During his stay at the hospital there were several staff members who really went above and beyond in caring for Mozzarella. The first person we'd like to thank is Ashley. Out of every person who was there during our stay Ashley made us feel like our dog was her family. She diligently checked in with us, cleaned Mozz and his cage, explained everything she was doing and why, and offered us tips to help him get better. Mozz perked up when she entered the room and you could tell he missed her when she had to attend to other patients. She sat with us and comforted us during a very emotional time. Her heart and soul went into caring for our dog and she did a fantastic job. I can't say enough about Ashley and the type of person she is. If there was anyone who truly met their calling in life it's her. She is exactly what our family needed. Next, we'd like to thank Dr.Friedman who worked the day shift. He was honest with us and leveled with us about how Mozz was progressing. But, he did so in the most empathetic and sympathetic way. We never felt it was about money or testing and procedures that weren't necessary. We discussed several options for further testing and costs of tests. Dr.Friedman discussed the further testing with us and advised that the money spent on those tests would be better spent on keeping Mozz in the hospital. We opted to use the money to keep him in the hospital. He offered emotional support and was extremely kind and caring. When we could no longer afford the hospitalization he set us up for outpatient treatment. We purchased the equipment and medications and he explained what the process would be like. Amy was gracious enough to also share some tips for home care and showed us how to administer SQ fluids on our own. She was patient and took the time to thoroughly go over everything we would need. Doris who worked the night shift kept Mozz neat and clean and also comforted us and offered advice. Last and certainly not least, we'd like to thank the receptionists. Sharisse and Christine and all of the other people at the front desk were wonderful. They were so kind and patient. They handled all of our calls with professionalism and compassion. Sharisse helped us figure out which payment plan would be best for us. Overall, we were extremely happy with the care provided by VEG and even though we couldn't afford to keep Mozz there, they got us through the worst of it before he came home. We are happy to report he's made a full recovery thanks in large part to the VEG team. read more

It is hard for me to come on here and see so many 5 star reviews. However, when you sit and think about it - if your pet is ill/hurt/uncomfortable and the vet is able to tend to your baby and fix them - then of course you are going to leave a good review. Our pets are our family and we love them dearly. I am sure you are wondering why I am leaving one star. Our doggy had a hot spot around his groin area a couple of months ago. It happened to be a Saturday and no vets were open. We found this business that says they're open 24 hours on the weekends. Perfect! We called and made an appt - made it there in 20 minutes. We dropped off our doggy with Dr. Mihansky as they were not letting anyone inside due to covid. Strange to me because they had a waiting area that was separated by a glass door to the main office. It would have been nice to be able to sit down instead of waiting in the cold, but I digress. We got a call about 30 minutes later stating that, yes indeed, our dog has a hot spot. Doc sent us a text with a link to a bill that needed to be signed. We opened up the link to a fee of Low end cost $500, High end cost $700. WHAT? To treat a hot spot? I called them back and said that I just wanted the medication and I will clean him at home (plus, he is more comfortable with me where as they would need to sedate him as the hot spot was painful and he didn't want to be touched.) Doc said that is fine but you still need to pay the $150 visit fee. We paid, got our doggy and left. He took the meds, hot spot was healed. All is well! Fast forward to now, the hot spot came back. We happened to save the prescription bottles and I said, well lets just call the vet and ask him to refill the medication. No sweat, right? WRONG. We called him last night and told him what was going on. He insisted that we come back in and he wants to start from scratch and run tests, etc. Well, Doc why can't you prescribe us the medication. We know what it is now, so what's the problem? No, No, you have to come in. Okay.... Last time you tried to get us for $500-$700, which we still ended up paying $300 just to buy medication. now this time you're going to want to run tests and you already know you're going to have to sedate my dog due to the pain he is in. So I know I am looking at a $1000+up bill. Now this is where my frustration kicks in. We are all in the middle of a pandemic, most of us are out of work. What if we couldn't afford to bring him in and pay that hefty amount of money just to get the same meds as last time to treat a hot spot. There are truly needy people out there that can't always afford to bring their pets to the vet. The fact that this doctor won't prescribe a refill on the same meds we got last time is beyond me. How could you be so callous when having a career that requires empathy and requires helping animals/others. You clearly saw how much pain our dog was in when you tried to look at his hot spot last time. I am most certain you know that he is in the same amount of pain. You would rather try to squeeze whatever amount you can out of your patients than refill an animals prescription, which would take you all but 10 seconds to do. This doctor even comes off as cold and callous. You can hear it in his voice. Do yourself a favor and find another vet, find another doctor, find someone who truly cares about the well being of your pet and isn't just looking at you as an ATM or money sign. Also, to end this review. Don't take my word for it, scroll down to the other 1 star reviews and you will see that they are charging their patients $1000+ bills. We had to bring our 14 week old puppy here when he became acutely ill over the weekend. From start to finish, we couldn't be happier with the level of care he received, and the ease of the entire process. All members of staff that we spoke to were extremely helpful and reassuring, which put our minds to rest that he was receiving the care and attention that he needed. They frequently encouraged us to check in with them for updates, and it wouldn't be a bother to them. This again made us feel much more comfortable during this very unsettling time. We hope that we don't have to use their services again, but if we do, we're very comfortable and confident in the level of care and service our puppy and us will receive. Had appt for a 17 year old dying cat to be euthanized . Upon arrival was advised they could do it in my car due to COVID for $210. Then they texted me the bill to pay online for $600+ for private cremation and a wood box. Then they said I could get a 10% discount. What? Just a horrendous trauma ! So I took my dying cat home with a bandage on it's leg where they removed the cannula. read more

My puppy ingested something while out on a walk, was lethargic, not very responsive and I was panicked. The Vet here saw him immediately. They were fast moving, got to the problem very quickly and knew exactly how to treat him. The people who work here are so positive, so helpful and amazing in a crisis. I would highly recommend coming here in an emergency. They are open 24 hours a day, if your pet has to stay they have an open door policy where you can come at any time. They were fantastic with updates via the phone. Hopefully I will never have to return but in a crisis I would absolutely go back here. read more

Im so unhappy with my experience at VEG. We went there on the 14th, they xrayed then did tests said it was a bad uti. He went on antibiotics for 7 days and it was still not better so we called and told them and asked if the extra urinalysis test showed anything. They said they lost it, so have him come and they will check him out for free. They finally did a ultrasound and found the stone, said he needed surgery but told us it wasn't urgent. Our actual vet was closed so we figured hes there we need him to feel better it been over a week now. Agreed to the surgery bc they said its routine procedure and we can pick him up at 7am. They call at 7am and say that he needs more monitoring bc he's a brachiophalic dog and he needs to be monitored but they close so we need to bring him to their Clifton location. I dont know why they just didnt tell me that they couldn't properly care for our pup because he was a brachiophalic dog when we dropped him off and they seemed to have known that he would need after care no matter what. They also charged me for post op care and but we picked him up right after he came out of sedation and also had a misc charge which I do not know what it was for. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PUP HERE! Really glad this opened as an option for off hours care. Everyone I've encountered there has been really nice and helpful. Keep in mind as they are emergency the rates are typically higher than a regular vet, but not astronomical. Also, as they are not 24 hour (except on weekends!) they are great for off hours but close at 8am on weekdays so if your pet will need longer term care for an emergency you'll have to pick them up and take them to either your regular vet or a 24 hour facility. But again, great peace of mind to have this an option for emergencies. read more

Brought my cat in on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm & was told to wait in my car for a resolution. Sat in a local parking lot for an hour with no update from the clinic and finally went home. After multiple outreaches on our part, it's now 7 pm, six hours after the clinic took possession of our cat and still waiting for a resolution & when he is coming home. The clinic made zero effort to update us on status of his wait time and I guess they expected us to still be sitting in the parking lot waiting for their "emergency service" all day. This is neither (most importantly) acceptable urgent medical service nor acceptable customer service management.Would have been better waiting till Monday to see our vet and not torture Cecil with - at this point and still counting - six hours of confinement in a cage. We took our miniature Daschund to their facility today. Dr Nicole Poppenger along with her team were fabulous. We lost our Mowgli today however everyone in this team headed by Dr Poppenger were super attentive, knowledgeable, kind and so caring. Dr. Rodríguez and her staff did an amazing job when our little girl was dying. She would not have made it to another emergency vet so I am very thankful we have this clinic in town. They were so accommodating when it was time to say goodbye and pick her up for burial. read more

Wow I apologize for my delay in reviewing this amazing emergency veterinary group, the world has been chaotic but I wanted to extend my deepest gratitude after an experience at the end of February 2020. A badly injured stray kitty appeared at my window on a cold Saturday night. Usual vet was closed but recommended VEG on Willow Ave in Hoboken. I spoke with Dr Roth by phone who was extremely compassionate to the situation, not my own cat and I do not drive so had to trap the stray and travel by lite-rail in the wee hours. When I arrived at their facility, front desk was already notified to expect me. Was seen right away by Dr Ben who examined the stray whom I had coincidentally named "Benny" on the way over. He assessed that although a severe injury ( possibly hit by a car ) there could be a slight chance to save the leg by surgery. He also let me know humane euthanasia could be done if that was my choice. Dr Ben & staff were so understanding, patient and compassionate, considering how quickly I had bonded with this stray, I was quite distraught and in tears. I opted to try a possible surgery with my usual vet once x-rays could be taken, so VEG made sure the stray's pain was immediately managed through pain med injections and I was given pain medicine and antibiotics to administer once back home. My usual Jersey City vet tried to further save this precious kitty but x-rays revealed the injuries were much more severe than we planned on so I opted for euthanasia and a private cremation. I will always have in a little wooden box, the remains of this stray "Benny" who came to me out of nowhere and I will never be able to explain the inexplicable bond to a cat I had never known before. Needless to say, Dr Roth, Dr Ben & staff at VEG felt that bond and helped me through that difficult experience. What a relief to know that if my own two cats should ever experience an emergency outside of normal vet hours, or on weekends or holidays, VEG is there to help !!! We recently brought our cat in for what ended up being congestive heart failure and a blood clot in his hind legs. As this is a dire emergency situation, we weren't sure if we would ever see our little guy again, and are so grateful to VEG for taking great care of him and for giving us the chance to take him home. The facility overall displays a lot of care for your pet, and is clear and upfront with respect to the procedures/services that will be performed and the cost. Dr. Roth and Dr. Roura were great at every step from diagnosing the issue, walking us through the options, and providing frequent updates. Went in because something was clearly wrong with my dog who is 10 years old. Was told I had to wait 3-4 hours because they had more critical patients. One lady that came in before me left because she looked at my dog and said "i'll just come back in the morning there's clearly other dogs that need more attention." If a pet owner who has never met my dog could see how urgent my dog needed help why couldn't people who went to school see it. What hurt me the most is then constantly saying "we have a lot of critical patients right now it'll be some time." The vet maybe saw my dog for a total of 15 minutes before she started running test and just kept talking about well in older dogs this and that. After she decided the test they were going to run they immediately went on about the bill. They didn't even offer a payment plan like the location at Clifton. I should've looked at the reviews before I went to this location and I completely understand what others were talking about when they said they felt like all they cared about was money. While i was waiting for the vet to see us i called their Clifton location because my dog was getting worse and worse waiting to be seen. As soon as i called they seemed more concerned over the phone then the people who actually saw him. I went to take my dog the next day to the Clifton location because he became non responsive within a few hours from coming home. As soon as we arrived to the Clifton location we met nicole immediately she sprung into action and picked up my dog and brought him inside. She stayed with him throughout the entire time he was there and made sure my mother and I knew exactly what was going on. Everyone in the Clifton location was extremely nice and helpful and I am so grateful for their help. Unfortunately my dog passed away but at least I know everyone at the Clifton location did everything they could. They were all extremely helpful and they offered me a payment plan. Bottom line is don't waste your time at this location they are rude and they don't care about your pets. This one man who was at the Hoboken location with us that night was extremely outraged because the entire time he was there the doctor didn't speak to him at all but the receptionist went up to him with the bill. read more
