First of all, they have a separate gluten free menu!! Unfortunately, I ordered wrong, but I would love to come back and try something new. I ordered mapo tofu, which is a fave of mine, but this dish was very different from what I was used to. No spicy red sauce, just a mild brown sauce with peas and carrots. There was also a seitan-like mock meat, which worried me, but they assured me it was gluten free. I had no reaction the next day, so that's good! No complaints for the miso soup Service was a little slow but the server was really helpful with my celiac questions!

Excellent Asian vegan cuisine with $15 lunch specials with large portions. Love that some are loaded with vegetables with minimum added sugar. Had the mango lassi, l13 and l14, and lobster rolls. Seated right away in this very quiet restaurant. Food came out quickly. Staff was attentive and ambiance is nothing special.

Been to this restaurant 5 times. Below are pro and con: Pro: lunch $14-$15 and dinner meals $17-$22 reasonable price All vegan Con: Tables are sticky. Has a film of dry grease Air was bad : very stuffy Minimum service Bathroom broken No AC for a 77 degree Food is never on the delicious side. Just tolerable. Like my mom's food is more delicious. Todays miso soup so salty. They don't put thoughts in their food and cleanliness. It's like they don't even care if business fail. 3 Times they rush us to finish dinner at around 8:30 because waiter had to go home. Restaurant closes at 9. Restaurant is mostly empty. Do they know why? Fix the problems!

If soup means slices of veggies mixed in a veg broth then I'm give up. in name of veganism you can't alter however you want. I was expecting a nice thick pumpkin soup, this is a big disappointment. Next comes steamed veggies.. guess simply half boil the veggies with pepper and your job is done. There is no need to add salt or little garlic to add flavor. I had to blend the soup and cook it more myself and cook veggies again in garlic to make it edible. This place is a joke. Money wasted.

Stopped by for lunch at this great Vegan Asian restaurant. I had the Eggplant String Bean lunch special $10.50 and it was delicious. Started with a miso soup and the lunch plate of sautéed eggplant with string beans with rice and also includes sweet potato and a vegetable roll. I'd like to try another item but I may get the same thing next time.

I was craving more vegetables and tofu in my life after eating out a few too many times this past week and felt that I needed a little bit more green in my diet. I came to Ginger Root for take out on a weeknight. Ginger Root is located on the UES and is a specialty vegan Asian restaurant. It looks like the menu is mostly Chinese dishes but they also have some classic Thai dishes. They had tofu and saitan as meat alternatives. I ordered in the restaurant and waited for about 15 minutes for my food. I got the Teriyaki Tofu which comes with steamed broccoli, brown rice, and miso soup. The miso soup was pretty tasteless in my opinion. The Teriyaki Tofu had a sweet flavor and I liked the crispy edges of the tofu. The dish is served over a bed of bean sprouts. I was pretty surprised I finished the whole dish! Overall good vegan Asian place on the UES.

Pros: -Fully vegan menu -Lots of seating -Food is quick to come out -Staff seems to be passionate about veganism -Quick takeout pickup Cons: -Some of the appetizers were hit or miss (lots of items seems like they were frozen then fried) (overly saucy to mask the quality) -waiter kept taking plates and sauces away before we were finished using them

I ordered the general tso and the sauce was bland and very watery! Very disappointing and don't think I'll be going back here again.

This restaurant is part of the Chase Sapphire reserve dining credits! We had read reviews and had an idea of what we wanted to get, but also spoke with the waitress on her recommendations and ultimately went with: Pork dumplings Salt & Pepper chicken Tiger shrimp with walnuts Oyster mushroom rice noodles Snow pea shoots I think my favorite was the oyster mushroom rice noodles with steak. The rice noodles were so silky and the flavor was good. The salt and pepper chicken was also super crispy and very juicy and tender on the inside and whatever sauce that came on the side of it is so addicting. The tiger shrimp was also good, though the menu said it came with a romanesco cauliflower, but the dish was served with broccoli. The snow pea shoots are one of my favorite vegetable dishes and, in my opinion, was just a little overcooked and doesn't need the garlic oyster sauce that comes on top. It's such a cute restaurant and you can open the vending machine door and grab a surprise treat on your way out!

Our favorites of the night were the salt and pepper chicken with scallion biscuits (jam was amazing, and the chicken was moist and fried perfectly), the walnut shrimp (super juicy and well-cooked, not too over-sauced), the pot stickers, and the cold sesame noodles which had great chew and a lovely, creamy sauce. The crudo was pretty small and nothing to write home about, and the eggplant and tofu curry were a bit under-seasoned for me. The bowls of rice we got to eat with the side dishes were also pretty mushy, as if the rice hadn't been properly rinsed before it was cooked, which was disappointing at $3 a bowl. Room for improvement! Still definitely a spot I'll recommend to friends looking for interesting takes on Chinese food! Service was attentive and smooth throughout the night, and we got some good suggestions on serving sizes for the group. Left stuffed and satisfied!

I started with the peanut chicken lettuce wraps (leaving one on the plate to save room), then moved on to the fried shredded beef and the fried chicken instant noodles (which really caught my eye) I was craving something heavier this time, and those noddles did justice. Overall, everything was satisfying. The lettuce wraps could've used more peanuts (I barely tasted them), and the fried shredded beef was labeled spicy but had zero heat. Still, the food hit the spot and left me full and happy. The service was outstanding. The restaurant dining area was very clean and well-maintained, my drink was always full, and the food came out quick and hot. The portions were very generous. I ended up taking some home, and they packed it up fast. Happy food, happy customer!

I ordered in some rice rolls and the soy sauce chicken with rice dish. The rice rolls were minuscule and the shrimp ones not fully deveined. The real problem was the soy sauce chicken. Friend of mine is a little more familiar with the cuisine so I entrusted our order to her and we got the following: Crystal shrimp dumpling (5/5): now this is saying something because I'm not the biggest fan of shrimp, but these dumplings were so juicy and savory, without having the heaviness or doughiness of other dumplings Pan fried turnip cake with pork (3.5/5): personally not my cup of tea, but my friend loves turnip cake and I was down to give it a try. It's also very savory/umami-y, goes well with the dipping sauces, and I'd say the texture is on the thicker side - I'm not quite sure how to describe the taste, but overall an interesting experience. Chicken chow-fun (4.5/5): I love this wide (rice?) noodle that they use, reminds me of pad see ew with the hints of soy but with chicken. It also had bean sprouts (or mung beans? one of the two), green onions (or scallions? gah I get so confused), and onions. I'm a glutton for vegetables, so I wish it had more variety of veggies but nonetheless still really enjoyed this dish and would definitely get it again! They were honestly quite busy on a weekday afternoon, but service was super sweet and loved the overall vibes inside, would love to come again!
