I have run past this place quite a few times, and kept telling myself that one day I'd finally patronize it, because on the Upper West Side, we aren't lucky enough to have anything like this and there's no damned way I'm going to go through life without stepping into a vegan deli (it's not entirely vegan; it seems like the menu is half and half, and I've heard the grills are separate for vegan and non-vegan) and then stepping back in another time and another until I've tried every item on the menu at least, oh, I dunno, half a dozen times. I finally stopped in this morning, a Saturday, after my run, and ordered the vegan bacon, egg, cheese, and sausage (I'm not quite sure of the order of those items) on a roll (there's also an option to get it as a hero!), and it comes with hash browns, which thrilled me to the gills. As I waited for it, I chatted with the lovely young gentleman at the register, who was super-nice and friendly, and glanced at the other fella who was tending to my food on the grill. I got a frisson of a *rush* when he sliced the sandwich in half with a big knife, because I knew that that would give the thing that delicious cross-section view that the kidz seem to be into these days, which makes food look even more scrumptious and appealing. I took my bounty to a little park at 90th and Second, found a bench, and was already giving Pavlov's dog a run for its money. Then, after my first bite -- drum roll -- I'm pleased to report that what I ordered BLEW AWAY MY EXPECTATIONS! I even exclaimed aloud to myself about how good it was and may have (okay, so I did) even cursed a little bit about how, uh, flim-flammin' delicious it was. This is one of the best bodega experiences I've had in my 8+ years in the city. The staff was so kind and perky to everyone who walked in. It was clear this store is beloved by the owners, staff, and locals. Unassumingly, this bodega offers what you would typically find BUT ALSO a wide variety of vegan, dairy free, vegetarian, and gluten free options. I have no other way to describe my experience than to say it was prepared with love, which I understand how odd that sounds... the cook adjusted the sandwich to accommodate my food allergies with gluten free bread. He softly wrapped and then padded the sandwich with fries. He delicately sliced holes into the top of the plastic lid so the moisture would escape without rendering the contents inside as a soggy mess. The person at the register (possibly the owner) was so delighted by my happiness to finally eat a chopped cheese that he thanked me for my joy with a banana... again this interaction was done with the kind of love one might expect between friends. I came when this place first opened and was really confused by the name (Vegan Deli and more), and now the new sign just says "Vegan Deli" but also "2 separate grills". this review is strictly from my uber eats experience. i ordered the v11 high protein platter and the ab1 peanut butter acai bowl! the protein platter was good with great quantity of food except for the vegan eggs(a lil dry) & vegan cheese. the vegan cheese wasn't fully distribute evenly & the food was cold when it arrived (not restaurants fault) , so i had to throw it in the oven for a few minutes. but the protein platter was really good & would definitely recommend anyone to go try it in person! bc if the food was pretty good after being delivered i can only imagine hows the food in person. another review will added from my in person experience. now the peanut butter acai bowl was terrible. completely terrible, the presentation was terrible the bowl was sloppy you couldn't even tell what was in the bowl. they're were no granolas . now here's where things get even worse. on the app there was NO indication or nothing listed in the peanut butter acai description that there were strawberries in the bowl , I specifically chose this bowl because I was under the impression that there were no strawberries in the bowl whatsoever. idk what genuis there decided it was a good idea to add strawberries?? i am allergic to strawberries and that could've been ugly if I wasn't paying attention and checking my food. idk if they ran out of one thing and replaced it with strawberries but that was a very airhead decision. so i do not recommend whatsoever ordering the acai bowl thru uber eats , but your experience may be completely different from mine. who knows. protein platter (benefit of doubt bc it was delivered thru uber eats) (8/10) acai bowl (0/10) couldn't eat. read more

Total gem for vegan breakfast sandwiches. Both the vegan sausage egg and cheese and vegan bacon egg and cheese were delicious. The roll is light and slightly flaky. All of the components were nicely cooked and as a wonderful bonus they come with a hash brown which reminds me of McDonald's hash browns but without the nasty hidden meat.
