We recently moved to Monterey Park from Sacramento, and immediately started looking for a vegetarian restaurant, which is a rare thing here. Most of oriental dishes contain a lot of meat! Vege Paradise seemed to be a great place to try, and we are happy we did! We found the parking easily, the staff is super friendly, English-speaking, and welcoming! Gave us a piece of advice for the first-timers, the dishes were served fast. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, with clean interior and stylish design elements. I loved that they have a menu with the pictures of every dish, which made our choice super easy, knowing what to order and what to expect - I wish more places did that! Seems like the food quality changed after they moved. They had me sign my name when I picked up my order, never happened before with the prior ownership. If you don't trust your customer, I don't trust you either. When I can't trust you, I won't trust the food you prepare. In fact, my order contained a variety of items I used to eat. The flavors are much heavier at this location. I could taste the bad sugar in the taro dessert I ordered. Won't be going back. I would rather go further to hacienda heights. read more

Vege Paradise is now called Veggie Valley per outdoor signage and interior paraphernalia. I believe they were booted out of their larger former location in San Gabriel Square (Focus Plaza) as the first victims of the controversial makeover of that property. Food is the same, just in a cozier setting. If you liked Vege Paradise the past decade, you'll like the new incarnation. read more

They moved to the plaza before where they used to be located. There is a lot of traffic in this plaza. Parking sucks and you won't be able to find any parking unless you go underground. The restaurant is much smaller and packed than their old location. I initially thought they were upgrading, but this is a huge downgrade. I've been to the old location multiple times and clearly the quality of the food hasn't changed much. If anything it's probably getting worse. Dishes are around $12 and up if I remember correctly, except portions are tiny and everything is bland and flavorless. Some dishes that are still fresh in my memory when I ate several weeks ago: Bamboo shoots with meat- this is a classic for me and I order it at every vegetarian restaurant. Their version is lacking in sauce and flavor. They're also very stingy with the vegetarian meat as there were only a few pieces. Additionally, it's not even soaked in water long enough that it is only partially rehydrated. Chow mein- loved the veggies they included in it as it was very refreshing but the dish is extremely oily and also bland. Hot and sour soup- I think they need to change the name of this. Nowhere did it taste hot or sour. Extremely bland and tastes like overnight soup. Pumpkin tofu pot- tofu is silky and pumpkin is cooked properly except it was bland. Fried oyster mushrooms- literally the best dish of them all. You really can't go wrong with this. And they actually put enough salt in it! Service also sucks just as how I remember it to be. Even with the downgrade in size they still can't manage their service. They're extremely inattentive and we were sitting there for half an hour before we were even able to wave someone down to take our order. The only good thing is that the food came out fast. All the better Chinese vegetarian restaurants have closed down, otherwise I'd recommend a different restaurant. read more

I got the "orange chicken" and it tasted SO much like the real thing. I also shared my friend's bowl and ate it all with rice and hot tea. If you want to pay for ok food but worst attitude, this is the place to be. We got there at 2:15pm on a Sunday and were told after we sat down that the kitchen closed at 2:30. We had to rush the order. Dishes came very quickly. We thought now we had the time to eat. At 2:40 the bill came, and items were supposed to be lunch special on the menu, but were charged at full prices because there was no lunch special on weekend although the menu didn't mention such. We thought we would pay once we finished, but the waitress came at 2:45 and asked us to pay immediately. She wasn't friendly at all as if we owed her. By 3pm she came again and rudely announced that kitchen closed at 2:30, and now it's already 3, we had to leave. WTH?! My friend was still chewing her food while we were thrown out of the restaurant. This is so freaking not acceptable! For sure we will never return. read more
