Read all the nice reviews and decided to go here to try the veggie chicken :) We were hungry as hell and ordered lots of dishes ;) The service was prompt, however, they did forget to bring our drinks and had to be reminded. I'd ordered the Jasmine smoothie which was too sweet and after half an hour or so, it turned into oil, weird. That was the only "not good" part. The food was great, loved all the dishes we ordered but the Mongolian style noodles were a tad bland for me. The black pepper chicken and wontons were delicious. Veggie Garden is still one of my favorite places in the area. It's just SO GOOD. I've now had the Happy Family and "shrimp" chow mein. Now, everything I've had is really good, but if you're stuck between two options and chow mein is one of those options, that's what you want. My partner also ordered the garlicky noodles and they were great as well. Basically you can't go wrong with the noodles. We've also tried a few different appetizers and so far the tofu fries have been our favorite. I'm impressed that they simultaneously get that tofu so crunchy but not oily. I felt like a VIP coming here albeit my first. The restaurant itself was small, simple and very clean (even the bathroom was shiny). Came here for lunch on Friday. It got good traffic going but not packed or anything. The lady greeted me in a jolly manner and told me to sit wherever I'd like. What? I get to pick? Instant VIP status. The waitress recommended the black pepper chicken (apparently their most popular dish), and I got a choice of hot & sour or miso soup. Also got the springroll appetizer. Everything came out neat, pretty but also fast. Lots of attention to details. The black pepper chicken was served with brown rice and thin noodle. The "chicken" was about as good as soy-base would get. It packed that protein taste behind, and the texture was satisfying. Just don't expect it to taste like real chicken, but it was good in its own soy way. The sauce was on the saltier side but luckily it was segregated and didn't get all over the rice/noodle. Overall they meshed together deliciously. The eggrolls tasted fresh and crispy with a perfect crunch. On point. The lady said goodbyes/thank yous wholeheartedly as I left. What? VIP status again. Twice in ONE MEAL for the price of... Nevermind. Overall I'm excited to come back to try more. read more

I grew up in a buddhist household, and periodically we would go to the buddhist temple nearby, which was great because I loved running around the sprawling greens and climbing the temples. The lady who took our order was super nice and she recommend the hot and sour soup which was delicious. I liked how the lunch special was inexpensive and the portion size was pretty big! You can save half of it for later, which is great for those who are trying to save money! LOL! I got the wonton with chili oil which was really good. It also has peanut cause on it which gives it a good kick. I shared with my boyfriend and it was already filling. I got the kung pao chicken. We enjoy Basil Eggplant, and the chow mein black pepper chicken is deelish. Also, we have enjoyed the Kung Pao Chicken, Beef & Broccoli, and Mongolian Beef. Our favorite is Basil Eggplant but in all honesty, we need a bit more time to eat our way through the menu. Everything we have had is flavorful and lip-smacking. There is a thoughtfulness that seems to go into each dish. If you have a question or something is not quite the way you want it, speak up! The building I work in is dangerously close to Veggie Garden so this place has quickly become my go-to lunch spot. Even though I'm not vegetarian, Veggie Garden's delicious food comes close to converting me. Their lunch specials are a great deal - soup + entree + rice/egg noodle combo all for $8! The service is fantastic and everything is very clean. They're usually not too busy so food also comes out pretty quickly. My favorite is the General's Chicken. Tips: - their hot and sour soup is a bit on the watery side so I'd get the corn soup - the "noodles" that come in the lunch combo aren't lo mein noodles; they're thin egg noodles that have been tossed with some curry-like spices. - they have a minimum $20 purchase (which is pretty high in my opinion) if you want to pay with credit card so bring cash! read more

(None of our family is vegan / veg, but we try to minimize meat sometimes). I heard great things about this restaurant, but unfortunately the dishes we got (general's "chicken", Singaporean noodles, green curry) were not flavorful. They were fine, just a bit bland. My daughter did like the Singaporean noodles. General's chicken was soggy (we did pick it up as soon as it was ready) and lacking flavor. In addition to flavor, everything was very mild, so definitely if you want any spiciness at all then ask for it. Food is a bit greasy bit to be fair, way less greasy than regular Chinese food. Oil was fresh. Basil eggplant dish and chow me in noodles were good. Plenty of fresh veggies. Corn and tofu soup was just so-so. Fast and friendly service. I'm handicapping it for Los Altos -- if this place were in SF-proper I'd be giving it a solid 3 stars. Wow! Color me impressed. I am vegan, however, I find that I rarely end up liking meat or dairy substitutes and tend to eat food that is already naturally vegan (which can be difficult when you work out and need a lot of protein lol). I was a little skeptical at first, especially about the "fish" and "shrimp" dishes, but EVERYTHING I had here was incredible. We ordered the veggie potstickers, "chicken" chow mein, mango "shrimp", and mushroom bok choy. Everything was SO GOOD! I was incredibly impressed with the texture of all the food, as I think that is usually my biggest issue with tofu dishes and such. The "shrimp" was the most impressive as I figured it would be the hardest to imitate, but it was amazing! HIGHLY recommend if you are vegan, or even if you are just someone who enjoys Chinese food in general! I promise it's worth it - my dad and grandma both enjoyed it and they are omnivores. In fact, we didn't even mention it being vegan to my grandma, and she said it was one of the better Chinese takeouts she has had from the area. When I'm in Mountain View, I normally eat here! Every visit, I aim to try something new. As of recent, I ordered the basil eggplant, wonton soup and basil vegetable chow fun. Both the eggplant and chow fun was good, but I didn't care for the wonton soup (more broth than wonton). I've noticed their food isn't as salty as other Asian vegan restaurants, which is great. Small place in an unremarkable strip mall across from Whole Foods. Went in on my sons recommendation and was not disappointed. We had the black pepper chicken chow Mein, potstickers, green beens and eggplant and the Duck. Each dish was better than the next. But the Duck (a shitake mushroom disguised as) was out of this world. The crispy tofu skin mimics the must have skin you get eating duck at any restaurant. We are frequent weekend visitors to this restaurant and love all their dishes. It is a small place, but the food is big on taste. If you are a vegan or vegetarian you know how hard it is to find Chinese food without some kind of use of animal base in the sauces, so we were ecstatic to find Veggie Garden. The portions are nice in size and the flavors hit that authentic flavor you crave in Chinese food. We are going to make it our goal to try each menu item at least once. My wife likes the Black pepper vegetarian chicken more than the actual chicken dishes available elsewhere. Also this is the first vegetarian hot & sour soup that I have found to be so delightful. I've tried pretty much all the vegan restaurants in San Jose and been going to those restaurants many times so I decided to venture out to other cities to try their vegan restaurants. And that's how I came across Veggie Garden in Mountain View. It has great reviews and it's Chinese food! I miss Chinese food and was so happy to come across a vegan restaurant that wasn't Vietnamese. So my boyfriend and I drove here to dine. The restaurant is much nicer looking on the inside than what we thought it would look like when we first drove into the plaza. The menu was large and since we hadn't eaten vegan Chinese food in a while (last time was in July from Hayward which wasn't so great) we wanted to try so many things! We ordered baos, general tso's chicken, spinach with garlic, VG veal with broccoli. The portions were large and the food was fantastic. We didn't realize we had ordered so much that we barely touched the food so we had to pack everything into boxes to take home. The entire meal cost about $40 and it served as breakfast and lunch the next day- so worth it! The baos were so good! I've been missing eating baos so badly and I'm so glad to be able to enjoy eating them here. They taste amazing. Everything tasted like a real Chinese dish except the VG veal which could not mask itself as meat but I thought the flavors were still there. My favorite vegan Chinese restaurant! What a gem. The food was outstanding, artistically presented, and fresh. The environment was clean and modern (could maybe use some wall decor). I found prices reasonable for the quality and comparable to other vegan - like restaurants. Location is so-so and parking is difficult. Too bad they are in one of the uglier mini malls but the interior makes up for it. Maybe they can pull up the quality of surrounding stores. Staff was kind and didn't bother us needlessly.
