My friend and I were searching for ANY place to eat in Santana Row where we could comfortably sit outside to eat (since current Covid protocols don't allow for outside seated dining.) We stepped into Veggie Grill to check out their menu. Our friendly cashier offered up customer favorites and we both decided on the Fish tacos ($6.95) and a side of sweet potato fries ($4.95). We waited outside for our order to be brought to us. We found concrete bench seating outside of Maggiano's and proceeded to devour our scrumptious fish tacos. The sweet potato fries came with both ketchup and special spicy sauces, but we only ate the special sauce. It was that good! I will definitely dine here again and maybe try their Beyond Burger next time! read more

Veggie Grill has really great vegan food that anyone could enjoy and it will make you want to come back for future visits also.

It pains me to write bad reviews as I feel every restaurant deserves the benefit of the doubt. Furthermore, we already love veggie grill so much in the past in Southern California that we had veggie grill cater for our wedding in LA! We came around 2pm and the place was pretty much emptying out, so we expected slightly better service. However there no utensils forks or spoons available as I stood by the self serve counter for 5 minutes until I was able to talk to the cashier between customer orders. No biggie, perhaps people are on break and no one to help dry the utensils. I had ordered Chinese chicken salad and the salad was to be topped off with sesame dressing. It did not have any at all. Our side orders of pesto pasta and Mac and cheese were as if they forgot to add any salt at all. The burrito and taco menu in the back was new to us and we ordered a burrito only to be told later that they had no tortilla and whether we wanted it in a bowl instead. The Japanese katsu slider we ordered to go also did not have the sesame aioli sauce. For a restaurant that prides itself as the fast casual for the vegan community and charges it's prices like a proper sit down dining restaurant, I felt the service and food was on par to a poorly run fast food chain with quality control issues. We drove from sacramento passing San Jose to Monterey and picked veggie grill on our long drive only to be disappointed like this. This is the the quality of veggie grill we would have catered for our wedding. I certainly hope this is a one off incident and hope they can bring their quality to the standard I know they can be. On positive note, the Smokey corn bisque soup was flavorful and very Smokey! The Santa Fe sandwich was same as before. The Japanese katsu slider was just ok Togo but it tasted better after I steam microwaved it. The quinoa salad was still pretty fresh after 3 days and they did include the sauce on the side for this one. I look forward to enjoying veggie grill when I head out to LA in the future as the one here in Santana Row left a bad taste in our mouths. Since my parents are vegetarian, we used to come here a lot for dinners. My brother and I always get the chicken sandwich and cauliflower appetizer. I used to love getting the chicken mashed potato plate as well, but they took it off the menu. The seasonal bowls are also very fresh and flavorful. After shopping around Santana Row, you work out an appetite and grub but your wallet says otherwise. I ended up at Veggie Grill and got their Santa Fe chick'n. It was quiet, mostly takeout orders. I was able to eat in peace while contemplating how much I just spent shopping. My sandwich was great and the fries were good. I forgot how big their sandwiches are and was full after eating half the sandwich. Service was great and they clear out your tables. But in the past, customers cleared the tables. So I felt weird just leaving my plate on the table. The water machine must have recently been cleaned or maybe the water cup, either way, my water had an after taste of soap. I got the Catalina taco meat salad and a burger with bacon and not only did the food look so aesthetically pleasing and colorful, but it tasted spot on. Flavors and textures were good. Sweet potato fries were delish. Most of the menu has changed since the last time I've been here (circa 2013 lol), and while I am sad the All Hail Kale salad is no longer available, their new menu is EXTENSIVE! Another great find!! I'm not sure why this place was not super crowded. They have the best food. Service was great as well. It was late (for me still on eastern standard time) so we just got one order of nachos. Both my hubby and I agree they were the best vegan nachos we've tried. The cheese sauce was very tasty. This is my review after my 4th visit here over the past couple of years. In the past I've gotten their bowls when I wanted a heftier meal. However, I always find that the price point doesn't match up with the bulk of the meal. If I was starving a dish would probably fill me just enough, but it wouldn't leave me satiated. So if you have a big appetite I'd order some sides to go along with the bowls. Taste-wise, the flavor combination is great! I do love that in all the items I ordered everything in that dish complemented each other. The faux meat is also realistic and convincing to non-meat eaters. I recently ordered the fish tacos and I was awed by how similar it tasted to real fish. Major kudos for that! I'd say Veggie Grill is a nice place to stop if you're looking for vegan replacements on American classics or trying to eat healthier. Vegan love. I'm not much into the artificial meat crave that vegetarians and vegans do, but this place had a very interesting taste and vibe to it. The outside is strange because you'd think that there would just be street parking and then end up walking. However, in San Jose it isn't. There are parking garages and luckily it isn't limited to a specific amount of hours. You get free parking. The outside had a playground for little kids and numerous other activities and outlet shops nearby. Ladies you're in luck because there are plenty of shops and dessert places nearby! Inside is cozy and warm. The people who eat here look like those nerds you see in the library, you know the ones with glasses and glued to the book or computer. The menu is vast and their entrees are all vegan only. They cater to meatless plant based substitutes. The chicken and steak are made out of a soy that imitates real meat, but tastes good. They add healthy spices to their food. Nothing really outshines the other on the menu because a lot of the items come with a plant based protein and veggies. To those who aren't into greasy, fatty, tasty meaty foods, this place isn't for you. The prices are pricey. I got a limited time edition shredded zucchini and soy protein sausage that was seasoned with peppers and spices. It was delicious. My accomplices were ordering a bbq seasoned salad with chicken soy. A fried chicken Nashville styled burger with fries and a crab less soy party with fries. All for $50! Service was fast and the people who work here are very fit. They have really good plant based vegan food. Everything from the classic burger to Korean bowls. They have something for everyone and it's all vegan and cholesterol free. Today I had the classic VG burger meal. This has a beyond burger patty, which is really tasty, vegan American cheese, lettuce, tomato, special sauce and onion. I prefer my onions grilled, like they used to have back in the day. Now it's raw red onion so I opt for no onion in my burger. I chose the French fries for my side and had an iced tea for my drink. My burger was delicious and it's my go to order when I come here. My husband ordered the Korean kimchi beef bowl. He said it was delicious and had tons of flavor. It has sesame marinated bulgogi beef, kimchi, brown rice, greens, butternut squash, avocado, pickles cucumber and Korean bbq sauce. It definitely had some heat to it. He decided to have their strawberry lemonade for his drink. When you order they give you a number to put at your table. When your food is ready, they deliver it, straight to your table. You also get free refills on your drinks at the self serve area. I've been coming here for years and needed to finally write a review for this place. Once the food is ready, they bring it out to you. The restaurant has booths and chairs and the lighting was a bit dimmer, so even though we were at a technically fast food place, it felt a little higher end than a chipotle or subway. We decided to order two slices of their Carrot Cake, which came out to just under $10 with tax. We were expecting two small slices of the cake, but it was actually pretty huge AND only 400 calories for the entire serving. Overall, it was alarming good. I mean, how can a vegan dessert be THAT good? We've been eating vegan for a month now and nothing I make tastes like that. The only thing I didn't love about the cake was that it was a bit dry on the inside, and maybe a tad too dense. But overall, I'd eat that cake 100 more times if I could. It was so good that we were worried that this restaurant was only vegetarian, not vegan. So my husband went up to the front to double check (after finishing his dessert so he wouldn't feel guilty still eating it if it was full of dairy and eggs). It turns out, it was vegan! And better yet, the friendly staff members were happy to pull out a booklet that shows you exactly what's in the recipe with the nutrition information. Overall, WOW. It's great. But that couldn't be further from the truth! This place makes popular dishes vegan and does a really great job. The service is always friendly as well. There's a reason why regulars like me continue going back. I've had the chicken sandwich and various bowls before and all were good, but this time I tried the fried fish sandwich and it blew my mind. I did not expect the texture of the vegan fish fillet to be SO similar to actual fish! It was flaky and flavorful. The tartar sauce (also vegan!) went perfectly with the fish. It's always a great experience when I come here. There is a seasonal menu so there's no shortage of dishes to try. Most recently, I had the B Wing Salad. If you're not a saucy salad person, I'd recommend asking for the dressing on the side. I'm not a saucy salad person, so this salad was a bit heavy on the dressing for my taste. Otherwise, this is a pretty hearty salad topped with generous amounts of avocado and vegan buffalo wings. The employees here are familiar with the dishes and can offer plenty of suggestions if you don't know what to order. For the locations I have visited, the employees have all been very helpful, friendly and seem to enjoy their work. My go-to is the "Pick Two". It's a quick and easy option for a snack or meal for under $10. The only dish I have tried that I was not a fan of was the Bulgogi Beef Bowl. It was way too salty! I couldn't finish it! So, if you're sensitive to salty dishes, probably avoid this one. Other than that, I have tried everything else on the menu and highly recommend it! I'll start off by saying that I'm so glad places like this, i.e. vegan fast food places, exist. But, I'll also say that the food was all a tad mediocre for me. What we ordered: 1. The Mac & Cheeze: I appreciated the texture and consistency of the mac, but it wasn't seasoned well enough for me, and I ended up adding a fair amount of salt and pepper to it. 2. Nashville Hot Chickin' Sandwich: This was unfortunately a bit underwhelming. The Chickin' patty was not crispy like I imagined it would be, and it wasn't spicy either. Like at all. The bun was also way too big for the filling. I ended up picking off a lot of the bread because of this. I ate half and gave the other half to my partner. He agreed that the texture wasn't crispy enough. 3. Pozole Verde: Pretty good. While I would definitely give Veggie Grill another try, and order different things, it won't be on the top of my list to go back to in the immediate future. A few days later my partner and I ordered delivery when another large chain restaurant never delivered our order (I got my $$ back, so NBD!). If you eat vegan food often or are totally vegan, you can agree that plant based chicken is risky and sometimes, frankly, disgusting. Well, not at Veggie Grill! Every time I've come here to physically dine or get takeout it's been a great experience. In fact we came last week and had a great time! However last night I did an Uber Eats for the first time with this brand AND location - we got the catalina salad and the korean bowl. Bowl was decent. Couscous was dry tho.
